Diner Reviews
  • "Our waiter was so great with his recommendations for all the small plates our group of 4 foodies and along with his friendly personality made for a wonderful dining experience!! "

  • "The food was phenomenal! We were given the choice of eating inside or outside. Outdoor seating had a lot of heat lamps. The waitress made great suggestions, and we did not eat a single thing that we didn't love. If you are getting drinks with dinner, it can be a bit pricey, but I highly recommend this restaurant! "

  • "We knew with Mediterranean style food we were likely to find enough fish and vegetarian dishes to keep us meat free on Good Friday and we were right! The food was awesome and while noisy, it wasn't impossible to have conversation. I loved it and will come here again soon."

  • "The service was good and quick (for busy early evening); my date enjoyed all the food (his first time at this restaurant). The lamb dish took a bit long, but it was tasty. "

  • "Greek themed menu with something for everyone and especially popular with my vegetarian friends. Very efficient, food came almost instantly. Lovely interior. Perfect location for Verizon Center and National Portrait Gallery"

  • "Zaytinya is one of my favorite restaurants. I have been several times. Unfortunately, the service my mom and I received this weekend was sub par. We went much of the meal without drinks because nobody came by with refills. I had to flag our waiter down to get dessert after we had finished eating 10 minutes prior. Plates took a long time between. We got hummus and went 10 minutes without bread to eat it with. Nobody asked us how our food was (for the most part, very delicious, except for some overfried falafel), This visit was not at the usual level. While I'll probably be back, I'm not sure how soon and have a bad taste in my mouth from the experience. "

  • "Great food and very knowledgeable server....we really appreciated the various items on the menu...including an interesting wine list. i never thought we would enjoy the Lebanese wine recommended as much as we did. It paired wonderfully with our various choices... The braised lamb is a must!"

  • "We had a wonderful lunch. Our server gave us good recommendations and everything was delicious."

  • "food was excellent. They keep delivering you bread as long as you need it. The waiter made great suggestions as everything he recommended was great. I would have loved a booth as we requested when we made the reservation quite a while ago but they weren't able to accommodate. Great meal though and I would once again highly recommend this restaurant."

  • "We booked the place for our spring DC trip. Was the food highlight of the trip. Tapas-style mezza plates. Delicious vegetables, meat, seafood, dessert. Great location. Delicious food. Highly recommended. "

  • "Nice place but I wouldn't rank it as a great restaurant, just good. Service was excellent. "

  • "This restaurant is a great find. Excellent food right by Gallery Place metro. The chef's take on Mediterranean food is great. I had the four Course lunch menu and was pleased with the food and the presentation and the service."

  • "Great good very healthy portion Love the flavor of food!! "

  • "My family of four had an excellent dinner here. The waitress was amazing and extremely helpful. My husband loved the brussel sprouts. My son loved the octopus. My younger son loved the lamb with phyllo. I loved the kale salad. We did not enjoy the wahoo (it was a special). We did not think the flavors worked together. None of us were big fans of the fried halloumi either. The little pita puffs were hot and delicious. We had two desserts there too (can't remember the name of them). One had phyllo in it and the other had some kind of caramel sauce (not a very helpful description) but both were delicious. Overall, it was a great dining experience. "

  • "We went to Zaytinya on 4/16. We'd made a reservation & asked for seating upstairs in order to minimize the noise. Sitting upstairs DID help somewhat - we could hear each other! The food was great and sometimes excellent; the drinks were quite good (the Turkish Storm was a favorite; the Kicking Donkey also excellent) and the wine list varied. We enjoyed: hummus, olives, halloumi cheese and the poufs of warm pita (which cool down quickly - you need to eat fast!); beet salad; the famous brussels sprouts (delish, if indulgent); the shrimp (my only "meh" in terms of presentation...just not a special dish); the scallops; the Lamb Kleftico. It was our server - Nuray, a lovely woman from Istanbul - who made the meal fabulous. She was TERRIFIC."

  • "Have been here 3 times over several years (from out of town), and I always forget how absolutely yummy their offerings are in between visits and am always glad we make the return trip. Great for groups who don't mind sharing the small plates in a family eating approach. Their in house Baclava Soda is absolutely amazing, and I never thought I would be praising a soda! Everything tastes great!"

  • "Had a lovely time. The food was excellent and my wife said the margarita she had was the best margarita ever! Also, our waiter was very helpful with selections."

  • "Everything from start to finish was amazing. I am not even a huge fan of this type of cuisine, but have been changed after dinning here. The inside is beautiful and the outdoor dinning was perfect! We will defiantly visit Zaytina's the next time we are in DC."

  • "In general - the food was excellent! We tried several mezza plates and was thoroughly satisfied. The only dish that left something to be desired was the Spanakopita, but the restaurant immediately removed it from the bill. In all, I cannot wait till my next visit to Washington, D.C."

  • "We have been wanting to go to Zaytinya for some time and we finally didn and we are so glad we did. First off, the service was excellent. Our first round of drinks were on the house because they took so long. We appreciate the free drinks but honestly, they did not take that long. To us that was an indicator of high standards for service and that high standard is transferred to all aspects of this establishment. The food was amazing!! I don't have enought characters to rave about the food, all i can say is: Go!! Go today and have a great experience!!! I will say this, try the ocropus--it is excellent. The interior is beautiful. I loved the bright blue, and the white, it was like a snapshot the mediterranean."

  • "What a find! We had a wonderful lunch and even my fussy teenager liked his meal. Totally recommend this restaurant, since the food was delicious and the atmosphere stunning. Well done!"

  • "The food was really good and our server was great. We always had water and bread and our food came out pretty fast. I loved everything from the fries with garlic sauce to the hummus. The peach yogurt dessert with ice cream was very delicious as well. Loved everything!"

  • "We ate our way through Washington DC and this is one restaurant we considered visiting twice. The food, served mezzo style, will amaze, with each mini course even better than the one before. We loved the the red pepper spread with delicious cocktails, almost too pretty to drink... Our server helped us narrow our choices, because everything looked delicious. He guided us to 7 plates, perfect for the two of us. Be sure to get dessert. The yogurt and apricots is a grand finale you don't want to miss."

  • "My family likes to try "strange" foods. My cousin was here for GWU admit weekend, and I wanted to take her to a nice dinner that would really showcase that DC has as good of a food scene as Chicago. Zaytinya did not disappoint. We had the Octopus Siciliani and the Goat Moussaka, because she had never had goat or octopus, and she loved it. Every item we ordered was fabulous. Our server helped me choose a red that worked with fish and meat, which was extremely helpful."

  • "We booked the table very easily through Open Table for two out of town families. The restaurant was great in calling us to confirm they got the reservation, to reassure us that we would have a table for this large group. Two kids in our group were warmly welcomed by the restaurant staff. Food excellent, although on the light side. We were seated at a large group table, and much to our excitement, next to a table with Chris Bosch of the Miami Heat! What a thrill for everyone, and our kids could not resist asking for a photograph, which Mr. Bosch most graciously agreed. This meal was clearly the highlight of our visit."

  • "We dined at Zaytina on a Friday evening and were seated right away with our reservation. The food was excellent as always and we had excellent service. The waitress even brought complimentary sparkling rose at the end of the meal since we had mentioned that we were celebrating our engagement. Great experience!"

  • "The initial impression was terrible. It was due to a delayed seating. We waited at the entrance for at least 20/30 minutes. This was accompanied by an unnecessarily unfriendly hostess' attitude. Not a good start. However, after that initial challenge all that followed was very very good: the service was warm, friendly and useful in providing advice on orders. The food came promptly and... it was good."

  • "I really liked it and the food was great. I would really reccomend it."

  • "The 2-top closest to the door is a location sheltered from the roar of a full restaurant. We could actually converse. Highest marks to the food."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Outstanding food and service. High noise level and delay in seating - 20 minutes after reservation time - we're the only issues."
    Dined on 4/12/2014
  • "Service was excellent and food was interesting and varied. My chicken was rare(!) so the waitress removed my entire lunch for the bill! An extraordinary response!"

  • "Zaytinya's food does not disappoint! I came with five other people, two of which were from out of town and everyone loved it. The small plates were all distinct and delicious, I particularly loved the Goat Cheese, Honey, Pine Nut "dip", the lamb shank, and the lamb special, which was tender lamb over a roasted eggplant with thick, melted cheese. Zaytinya also has one of the best cocktails I've had in a very long time (and I'm usually a straight whiskey girl), the 3pm in Istanbul. Lavender infused mint tea, vodka and grapefruit with cardamom and sugar."

  • "I was here with a couple of lobbyist friends for lunch. Very nice trendy/power scene here. The $25 lunch is definitely a deal. Everything's small-dish style so you don't feel full after lunch. Don't think it was that loud for a business lunch, but then again I might be used to the noise growing up in a big city. Service was amazing, very attentive. Overall great experience."

  • "Familiar with much Mediterranean food, we ordered some favorites. The Baba Ganoush, tabbouleh, Octopus Salad, and seasonal mushrooms with Brussels sprouts leaves were each extraordinarily fresh and flavorful. The Lebanese Chardonnay complimented these dishes perfectly. We topped off the meal with a dessert comprised of apricots, yoghurt and yoghurt ice cream which was out of this world. Loved it and will return at the next visit to DC."
