Diner Reviews
  • "Zaytinya's remains one of the best dining experiences in DC. Don't miss it."

  • "The wait time was a little slow for bread a drinks and the food was a bit cold."

  • "Our hotel (George) highly recommended this restaurant and it did not disappoint. We had a great waiter that was very helpful and informative. The food was absolutely delicious, with lots of flavour! Keep in mind that it is small portions - mezze size so you pick as many dishes you wish to sample. Nice warm pita to accompany your choices. If you are looking for a quiet restaurant this is not for you. It is very busy and with that in mind comes lots of noise, and the bustling of the open kitchen. Would definitely recommend for those who want great food!"

  • "The food at Zaytinya is always wonderful and the service outstanding. The service is so good that we had to hang onto our dishes which were not quite finished when the roaming kitchen staff attempted to remove them from the table. The constant procession of fresh hot dipping bread (perfect for the htipiti) is just one of the highlights of dining at Zaytinya. The two lamb dishes were succulent and tender, the crisp brussel sprouts outstanding and the Summer Grilled vegetables perfect in every way. Chilled Greek rose wine was perfect with this meal."

  • "Very fine outdoor terrace for dining. Lots of excellent and unusual small dishes on the menu, very well executed. Very good service. Accommodated the special needs of one of our party. Lots of good vegetarian choices. Greek and Middle-Eastern wine selection."

  • "I'm from out of town but any time I'm in DC I will try to visit. Loved the food, the various wines and cocktails, and the ambiance. I've eaten Mediterranean food through the years in many restaurants in many cities in the US and other countries, but this was very special."

  • "I always have a great time at Zaytinya. We were there during restaurant week. The food and the the service are excellent. All the vegetable and salad dishes are very good. I like the chicken kabob. The lamb kabob is a little salty."

  • "I told Paul I had a nut allergy. He took careful attention to tell me what had nuts. He even checked with the chef on every item on the menu. He made our evening."

  • "Consistently excellent and thoughtful food. I have recommended this place to many friends. My favorite place in DC."

  • "We were visiting D.C for the first time and we were blown away by this place. The food was delicious, the view outside was awesome and the serving sizes were perfect."

  • "We love Zatinya and will be back. That said, the service can be a bit rough. We waited a few minutes for our reserved table and were seated. We were starving and eagerly waited for the famous pita bread and to order drinks. Admittedly our fault, we were not ready with our drink choices when our waiter came over a couple minutes after we were seated and so he said he would return in a couple of minutes... time passed, no waiter appeared, bread was delivered to every other table, and we sat staring jealousy at the table next who received 3 servings of bread before our first. We were finally waited on by a lovely waitress we were handed off to but I was disappointed that no one told us. Still the Chocolate Rose dessert made up for it. :)"

  • "Worth the trip up towards the capital! This place was amazing and two of our party required gluten-free food and were thrilled to receive special menus and attention from the waitstaff who were knowledgeable and very nice. The food was delicious, everything was absolutely fresh and authentic. Will definitely be back."

  • "We usually have good experiences here, but the food was bland and very average this trip. Our waitress was great, but could have been better."

  • "Food was excellent as expected...brussel sprouts and lamb dishes fantastic. We had the four course lunch. Problem was service...two courses brought at the same time made for a very crowded table for two when bread, olive oil dip, beverage glasses, etc. were on the table. We were seated at a table for two though there were plenty of empty tables for four during the hour we were there. The busboy started clearing our dishes before we were finished...felt very rushed and uncomfortable. He continued hovering even though outside seating was not crowded...perhaps his shift was ending? Good food needs time to be savored...slow down waitstaff/servers."

  • "Perfect dinner and wonderful service made for a great birthday celebration! Food was excellent and a well-informed server helped us make terrific selections. Loved the bronzino, lentil patties, falafal and haoulumi cheese. We will definitely be back!"

  • "I made reservations for 10, but they squeezed in one more last minute. It was restaurant week, so we took advantage of the menu sampling the best of the best. We ended up trying 16 different items, all of which were wonderful. We asked for additional brussel sprouts because they were so good! Our waitress was also very attentive and extremely helpful navigating through the wine and cocktail list. Those tgat did not drink and our vegetarians still enjoyed the evening. The lazy susan was an added touch that was fun and practical. We would definitely go back."

  • "I went to Zaytinya twice during a 4-day business trip to Washington (I might have gone a 3rd time but I had only discovered it on my third day there). Interesting Mediterranean food and wine are served by an energetic staff. Highly recommended."

  • "Overall, I can't believe the hype this place gets based on my experience. The waiter was excellent and attentive, but the food was subpar. Had the Arayes, lamb pita, which were lukewarm and soggy, but ended up being the best dish of the evening- not saying much. At least the garlic-yogurt was good. The Keftedes Kapama, beef and lamb meatballs tasted like taco meat with Ortega seasoning. The grilled pork sausage dish was OK, but overly chewy and tasteless. Marinated artichokes tasted as if drowned in vinegar, taking away from the natural taste an artichoke should have. The wines were a nice diversion providing great options and dessert was decent as well. The Turkish coffee was a highlight of the evening, mostly I was glad to leave."

  • "Great and exotic selection of small plate dining. Latest seatings in Verizon Center/Penn Quarter area following concerts and sporting events. Restaurant week menu offers great variety for $35. Spacious attractive space."

  • "The food was great and my wife and I enjoyed the opportunity to taste many small dishes. When we were waiting to be seated, we senior citizens new that the inside noise level was too high for use to be able to enjoy our meal. They were happy to seat us outside which was much better but a loud group of young women several tables away still intruded on our total enjoyment. Eating outside would not be an option during colder months."

  • "After multiple visits here over the years, the food is always excellent. Service is as expected for this caliber of restaurant - consistently good. Will continue to return."

  • "Had 5pm booking to relax before show. Excellent table in shade of trees. Service was amazing. Food was delicious on the restaurant week menu...so much food but now we know what to order next time and there WILL be a next time. Fantastic ambience outdoors on a beautiful night. Great experience."

  • "I eat here fairly often and the food is usually delicious. it happened to b restaurant week when I dined there last, and I thought I might try something new. unfortunately, the restaurant week menu had an incredibly boring selection that was less than mediocre: any Greek/Mediterranean carry out has better humus, falafel, etc. why wouldn't you put something really great or with a new spin on the menu to capture new diners and impress regulars instead of something completely lame that you could get in containers from Safeway ( so much better at whole foods). weird. they must not want people to eat here during restaurant week so why participate? really brings the level of their food down."

    Dined on 8/19/2014
  • "There were 3 of us for Restaurant Week lunch. We did not like the offerings on this menu this year. We took our $60.00 and ordered off the whole menu. We had a much better lunch spending our $60.00 off the regular lunch menu than if we had chosen off the Restaurant Week menu."

  • "Best Greek restaurant I have ever been to. Spanakopita was amazing, with their own phyllo dough!!! Deserts were also fab, and you can choose a mini, so you can try 2!!! A must stop if you are in DC!!!"

  • "Went there to take my husband, who is vegetarian, but found plenty of great food for myself and my friend, who are not vegetarians. Really enjoyed the small plates of delicious food."

  • "I went to Zaytinya for the restaurant week. Variety selections under four courses, our server was kind and friendly, and the food was great. I especially loved the brussels sprouts. Ordered a glass of wine and a cocktail, and the bill was ~$100. Highly recommended for the restaurant week."

  • "GREAT find! Completely smitten with Zaytinya! Very impressed! A+"

  • "It was my first time here, and we ordered off the restaurant week menu. I liked the small plates concept a lot. The ginger beer was delicious! I especially liked the salmon on top of the black hummus. I gave three stars because more than 2 plates were not that great. The beef tartare could have been more flavorful. It was the good with the radish. The brussels sprouts was over sauced with the garlic yogurt. The keftedes was not good at all. The halloumi was great but not so much the watermelon pieces on the sides. The sirloin steak tasted like charcoal. Can't say I was a fan of either Greek Yogurt & Apricots or Turkish Delight."

  • "We sat for over five minutes as servers walked back & forth without being greeter or at least served water. My 9 month pregnant wife specifically asked about bread after being served an oil dish & was told it would be out any moment. It was not brought to our table until after we had already finished our first course. We also asked that the courses be fired up individually when we were nearly done with the previous but time & time again they would bring the following courses while we were barely finished with half of the previous course. It did not matter how many times we reminded the servers of our wanting to take our time with our meal & it was not like the restaurant was anywhere near full."

  • "We needed to move our reservation from 7:30 to 9:30. They were able to accomidate us even though it was restaurant week. Food came out quickly but not too quick. Service was excellent. Would go back anytime."
