  • "The Chef Experience was fabulous and a great deal! One of the best meals I have ever had."

  • "The reservation for 8:30pm was not ready until 9:00pm, which was a little annoying since we were hungry. However, the servers were great and the manager offered a free appetizer as a compensation. Not at all a deal breaker and I'll definitely go back."

  • "I had a friend in town for a conference and we agreed to meet at Zaytinya. She had never been here; I had only been once before. We both loved it. We are both, luckily, all about the veggies, so we ordered five dishes and shared them all. She was full and I was satisfied. The vegetables were really great: beautifully presented, interesting, tasty, terrific mix of textures. Especially notable was the brussel sprouts and the kale. My friend also commented on how nice the restaurant was: very open and light. We were able to talk freely without shouting at each other, but there was enough ambient noise that we did not feel we were being heard by others. The staff was friendly and attentive. Loved that they brought more bread."

  • "The theme of the menu is most definitely Middle Eastern, and the style tapas, so I'd recommend Zaytinya for informal eating with friends, where you can experiment with lots of different dishes. Personally - the fish dishes stood out: beautifully cooked scallops, mussels in a tomato sauce, and calamari in a feather light batter with garlic mayo. By contrast, the lamb cutlets were fatty and overpriced ($20). Unless we made some poor choices, it was also a low-carb menu, which meant room for dessert - a great little apricot and yoghurt shot. We ordered 6 plates between two, and with some flat bread and dessert, I felt we'd eaten a light but tasty meal."

  • "As someone who would always go to Zaytinya for tapas, I was quite surprised when I tried the salmon sandwich with za'atar fries for lunch. My lunch companion was not interested in trying the tapas, so I reluctantly ordered the sandwich, as my heart was set on getting tapas. It was delicious, as were the perfectly seasoned fries. Zaytinya has never disappointed me, quite the contrary! I look forward to my next visit, and may even order another sandwich!"

  • "I've been going to Zaytinya at least twice a year for a few years. The past two times have been a bit disappointing from a food perspective. For the price, I expect a little more. The food is not as flavorful, the restrooms are not as clean, and the service is not as good as it has been in the past."

  • "Zaytinya's happy, animated ambiance makes up for a few inconsistencies in the generally wonderful food. Full marks for the mushrooms, brussel sprouts, fried eggplant and most of the veggie offerings as well as for the billowy pita dipped in olive oil with pomegranate molasses. Lamb shanks were super, but lamb kabobs were super dry."

  • "One of my favorite restaurants in the city - never disappoints me. The food is superb, but the sangria (yummy, but watch out, it hits you out of no where lol)"

  • "They had excellent Mezze dishes and desserts to die for. My niece loved the place."

  • "My second-favorite (after Jaleo) of the Jose Andres restaurants. Consistently good food and service in a clean, modern and appealing setting. I love this place!"

  • "Love the lunch menu. Food is always prepared well, service is great. You can't go wrong."

  • "I read an article in the NY Times about the First Lady, which mentioned this restaurant as one of her favorite places to eat. We could understand why! The food was fabulous! The service was excellent. Our waitress was very knowledgable, which was helpful. The prices are reasonable, and the portions were perfect. Whenever we return to D.C., we will be sure to make this a must place to eat!"

  • "LOVE Jose Andres and all of his restaurants. Zaytinya was no exception. The atmosphere in this place is electric and it is a beautifully designed space--not at all what I expected from a Mediterranean restaurant which kind of added to the experience. It was great to have the opportunity to sample a lot of what the restaurant menu offers by offering tapas-style portions. Everything we shared was the best version of it either of us had ever eaten. The service and cocktails were also exceptional. The interior space is great for group dinners more than an intimate or romantic date, but those seeking that option can simply opt for one of the MANY tables on their patio. Can't wait to get back to D.C. to go again."

  • "Zaytinia is a small plates restaurant - think Eastern Mediterranean tapas. A great place for party groups to share food. I thought the food was good but not spectacular. One plate I ordered was grilled octopus and it smelled fishy - not sure it was fresh. The main dining room is long, narrow, modernistic, and a bit noisy. Not my kind of ambiance. My date and I were there late afternoon/early evening and the place was 1/2 - 2/3 full, so I imagine when it's full it's fairly loud. Service was attentive and moderately paced - not rushed but not so slow that I wondered if I anyone was home. Everything being said, I would go again."

  • "This was our first dinner meal and I'm so glad I went but disappointed I didn't go more! The plates were perfect for sharing, so order a few. The most delicious one I had was the duck and the goat. First time having duck and I was blown away by how delicious it was, as well as all the other places. Super cute place and the service was great too! Jose Andres (chef/owner) knows what he's doing. Tip: If you love this place, then check out Oyamel (his other location) that specializes in Mexican food. I LOVED Zaytinya!!!"

  • "Zaytinya is always crowded and reservations are highly recommended. We so appreciate the travelling waiter who automatically delivers fresh baskets of warm flatbread to the tables whenever the original basket is empty. Not to be missed: the htipiti (roasted red pepper, feta and thyme) dip, the crispy brussel sprouts and any of the lamb dishes. The food is excellent. We always overestimate how many dishes we can eat but have come to the conclusion that 6 dishes for 3 people (shared) is plenty given the abundance of hot bread. The wine list is unusual and wonderful and you cannot be disappointed. There is something for everyone. Turkish coffee is strong and delicious. Service is exceptional."

  • "The food is very tasty, freshly made and a bit a different food experience as it is middle east inspired. the only minus, it's a bit noisy in the restaurant. It very busy and therefor a bit noisy. the waiter was very friendly and attentive."

  • "This is the third time we've eaten at Zaytinya. As before, the food was excellent, and well priced for the quality and portion sizes. However, (and I'm not sure if this is a change, or if we simply didn't realize on previous visits) we were completely unimpressed with the drink options available. The cocktails were as expensive as the most exclusive bars in DC, and the wine list offers only Greek varieties, which we don't prefer. We considered a bottle, but once we realized the cheapest option was $50, we decided to stick with tap water. Such a shame to make what could've been a special meal a mediocre evening."

  • "Just like every time we go, Zaytinya's delivered. Both the goat moussaka and the duck confit were excellent specials. I highly recommend them both. Almost all of the regular menu choices were excellent as well. The only slight stumble is that the current preparation of the sweetbreads is no quite as tasty has it has been in the past. However, as the chefs are frequently tweaking recipes (presumably based on what is in season), I look forward to having them again when they are presented another way. All in all, a GREAT time as always."

  • "The food was generally good but nothing special considering this is one of Jose Andre's establishments. It shines if you were to come with a big group though as everyone can participate in choosing menu items."

  • "The server was in a hurry to take back appetizer plate which still had some delish hummus on it. I told him I am working on the hummus, but he came back again after 5 mins and I had to then let it go..."

  • "There were four of us in our party and we decided to try the Chef's Experience, a sampling of the chef's favorite dishes. It was indeed, an amazing experience! Shirley, our waitress, was friendly and attentive. Food kept appearing and every course was wonderful. The courses included appetizers, vegetables, fish, meat, and dessert. Since the restaurant specializes in small dishes, the quantity of food was just right for sharing and the quality was superb. They were even able to accommodate a gluten-free, dairy-free request from one of the members in our party. We all agreed it was a marvelous dining experience."

  • "Zaytinya is our go-to destination for birthdays, mothers day, or other special occasions. The menu -- which starts with staples found at kebab stands around the world -- is elevated at Zaytinya by the best ingredients and preparation to a truly heightened eating experience. The clever use of small plate tapas presentation allows for wide variety. We've been many times and have always had a special meal."

  • "This restaurant has a wonderful selection of healthy, small plates that come out as they are ready, so nothing waits/gets cold. The service was great (minus one small snafu) and the drink selection to unique and wonderful (my server recommended me a white wine, as I did not recognize any of the options). Would go again!"

  • "Zaytinya offers healthy and delicious selections with something for every diner's palate. The cheerful service is efficient in the bustling and upbeat environment. It is an easy restaurant for a business lunch or for more casual outings with friends. I always recommend it to my out of town guests."

  • "We were a party of four. The hostess was warm and amenable. The waiter was happy to explain everything. The food was great. I was transported to a warm beach on Santorini by the shrimp dish. Our only complaint was how loud the restaurant was. We would go back on a week night."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "All the food we ordered was really good (octopus, libanese yogurt, eggplants, vegeta blues and kabob mix). The fresh pita bread was ok. The service was very impersonal in somewhat fast: a lot of different stuff bringing plates at your table and cleaning it up without attention to details ( we had to ask for the wine list a second time around and our dessert was served while the dirty plated from the dinner had not cleared from the table)."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "On our second visit, we brought 2 Turkish friends. They loved the food and noted its authenticity. The chef does not skimp on complex spices to ensure complete flavor. Recommendation - go to lunch with at least 4 people. You can taste up to 20 different dishes from the lunch menu for $25/person. A great deal and a very satisfying meal!"

  • "simply amazing .... the food was so flavorful and imaginative. Each dish that you might have been familiar with at other restaurants took on a new taste. And the drinks were equally amazing."

  • "While my family loves Andrés, I am unimpressed by Jaleo, however Zaytinya was an excellent experience. The space is airy and comfortable. Our server was amazing, efficient and knowledgeable, and the food was fantastic. It comes in small-plate format (like tappas), and we had fun ordering 2-3 each over the course of the evening and trying everything. Our favorites were- Baba Ghanoush, Goat Moussaka (one of the larger portions), Lamb Kabobs, and any fish they offer poached in olive oil, for us it was Hake. Next time we'd definitely get the family style kabob platter, because the lamb kabob was arguably the best item."

  • "Excellent drinks and food. Highly recommend. Noise level is high, though. Waiter was unfriendly but we loved the restaurant!"
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "Highly recommend the brussel sprouts and the traditional lamb dishes. The only downside is that food is served as it becomes ready, so you don't get it all at once."

  • "Great place to eat and I really enjoy eating here...."
    Dined on 7/3/2014
  • "Food comes to the table very quickly, which is appreciated when you are trying to have a lunch that is kept to just one hour. A very busy spot for lunch, which can make the restaurant space quite noisy. Food was good, especially the hummus and the yogurt and peaches dessert. Overall, a good lunch, but I worry that Chef Andres has overstretched himself."

  • "We had a wonderful meal and ordered so many things -- we thought it might be too much but we ate every bite. From the various spreads to the amazing cauliflower and the outstanding okra to the fabulous kabobs, we loved it all. No room for desserts, even though they sounded great. Go with a crowd and order a lot of different things so you can get to sample all the tastes."

  • "We've frequented Zaytinya since 2003. Always delicious, and the service is consistently attentive. This visit was no different."

  • "We had selections from the Mezza lunch. Great food, wonderful aromas and visual appeal. The lunch was filling but not too much. both dessert options were wonderful. Our server was was knowledgeable and the service was both timely and pleasant"

  • "We had a great time. The food was really good. We ordered 6 plates for the two of us and 2 desserts to share, and that was the perfect amount of food. The wine was excellent (if pricey). Restaurant was noisy at times, but not too bad."

  • "We had over 10 people in our party. We enjoyed sitting around the big round table with lazy susan and sharing small dishes."
