ZapotecaSo glad we gave it a tryI've been to Zapoteca twice now-- once on a date with my fiance and once with our mothers for Mother's Day. On both occasions, we were very pleased with the food and the service. The menu is exciting and high-class without being the least bit inaccessible, and the house cocktails are a must for every visit.
The pricing is generally on the high side, but placed reasonably among other fine Portland restaurants. We don't flinch at the price since we know we're getting a fantastic value and a great experience.
The only con to the place is the noise level. It's not a large restaurant but with high ceilings and just the way the room's broken up, it doesn't take too many parties to raise the din to a distracting place. Still, we'll be back!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother great dinner at Zappotecas'Another great dinner at Zappotecas'. Fun place to eat & the menu is always a pleasant surprise.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMHighly sophisticatedThis is no taco joint, but an honest to goodness fine dining experience Mexican style. From martini style Margaritas, velvety deserts
to Mexican coffee with a hint of chocolate, superb.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food/great staffOur service was excellent from the moment we walked in the door. Every staff member I interacted with was great. The food was fantastic and fast!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food and atmosphere.Great food and atmosphere. Found it very loud though and hard to carry on a conversation.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMComfortable dining room, accommodatComfortable dining room, accommodating service and interesting menu. Four women who had not seen each other for several months met for dinner. We received great service. Our server had to return repeatedly because we were so intent on catching up we didn't focus on the menu. She returned good naturedly and told us to take our time. We each ordered traditional margaritas that were excellent. All of us selected enchiladas, but different fillings and toppings. We were all pleased with our dinners. My crab and shrimp enchilada was tasty and filling. I would definitely return.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMThe dining room was a littleThe dining room was a little loud, but then they do serve a lot of tequila. The food seemed kind of hit or miss, our fried avocado salad was amazing, the tres sopes were salty and bland and just not very good. The service was spot on, and I will definitely visit again- now that I know what to order. My only real complaint was the lack of a grapefruit drink on the menu, I love grapefruit with tequila.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMfood is very good. the appetizerfood is very good. the appetizer choices are varied; we had the mussels and the lobster ceviche, both were excellent. Margarita choices abound, but the classic margarita has a great fresh lime taste- mixed to order, not sweet or premixed. Zapoteca has a great take on Mexican food- not at all tex-mex. the only note of caution would be the noise level - high ceilings, open areas, tend toward a very loud atmosphere.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExtremely good food and theExtremely good food and the drinks are yummy as well!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMFood is always amazing hereFood is always amazing here every time I go! Was a perfect evening!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticFantastic fresh inspired food. Have been a few times, always greatHave also been to Brunch -- also great, and very reasonable prices, especially at brunch /lunchtime4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA happening place with excellentA happening place with excellent service, great food, an energetic vibe, but too loud for me.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe last time I was here IThe last time I was here I ordered the calamari and shrimp ceviche and thought it was one of the best I'd ever tried. This time around I decided to upgrade and try the lobster version. I wa s disappointed. The lobster didn't seem to hold up to the ceviche process very well although the marinade was very tasty. The main course was a pepper sauce based seafood stew with shrimp, mussels and halibut ... Sort of a thick Mexican bouillabaisse ... Absolutely delicious!4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLove itAmazing Drinks, out of this world guacamole and the entrees were as good or better! Very attentive waitstaff.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMattentive staff and greatattentive staff and great food
the only criticism was the noise level. A few acoustic tiles or tapestries would absorb the noise4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMBest Brunch Around!Best brunch and service ever. If you have not had the opportunity to enjoy Zapoteca yet, please put on your short list!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe've been here several timesWe've been here several times and the never disappoint.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNot a Tex-Mex menu. DrinksNot a Tex-Mex menu. Drinks and meal were both flavorful. Portions were reasonable and food was well seasoned. Nothing was premade all of the food tasted fresh.Valet parking was free but a tip is highly recommended as this is how they earn an income. I only wish the drinks had been less expensive.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food here is amazing. The food here is amazing. The portion sizes are perfect. They have the best guacamole I've ever had. You can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The cocktails have a well balanced flavor.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood, drinks, and serviceFood, drinks, and service were great. The drinks seem to be a little slow but were really great. The habanero watermelon margarita's are fantastic.4/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat service....... goodGreat service....... good food, nothing outstanding.....very loud. We will return3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat creative Mexican, greatGreat creative Mexican, great cocktails, great ambience, great service. I am glad you are here in Portland!3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMtasty, quiet, excellent serviceThe drinks, food and service were excellent. I loved my Margarita. I think it was the second one on the list (the authentic one?). Flavor of the seafood enchillada was very good but subtle. No loud music. You can have a conversation easily with friends. The decor and mood were simple but classy and it fits the price. My only peeve with the restaurant is that the booths were a little deep (or the table was too high), and the lighting was a bit low (I couldn't read my menu very well).3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMSerious Mexican food, and drink.Excellent, serious food. And very, very good margueritas! Reservations a must. Get the chips with three salsas.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was a birthday gatheringThis was a birthday gathering of 5. We enjoyed the flights of tequila, the waitress' explanations of the options, and the appetizers went very well with both tequila and wine. The entree dishes were all appreciated. It was a very nice evening.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThe sopas appetizer was deliciousThe sopas appetizer was delicious and so were the burritos. I had the chicken mole and my husband had the pork. Loved the presentation as well. My only suggestion is that they could have seasoned the black beans as they were pretty boring! I would have served the black beans whole with onions, garlic, cilantro and some chilis instead of the refried type that had no flavor. The banana bread pudding with tequila on top was wonderful! We will definitely go back for more!3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
