This was my second time to Zama and my husband's first (for his birthday). The food is impeccable- natural flavors presented in tantalizing combinations with an artist's flair for beautiful presentation!! Lisa was our server (REQUEST HER) and was perfect! Sweet but knowledgeable about all of the items & preparations while also attending to anything we needed promptly. This is for sure, the BEST, most impressive sushi in Philly. If you really want to impress someone who likes sushi, bring them to Chef Zama & he will knock their socks off!!! Clean, attractive decor and no "scene" so if you are loud and obnoxious, please don't ruin it for the foodies!! We can't wait to come again :) Yum!!!

We went to Zama during at an off time, so the restaurant was mostly empty. Maybe as a consequence, service was superb and we had a very nice meal. It is a very attractive spot, blond wood, Japanese-influenced style, and very skillful use of light and lighting.
Unfortunately, the sushi wasn't up to the rest of the experience. It was acceptable but nothing special. This was my third visit there, and I've had the same impression each time. The fish is either not quite as fresh or not as high-quality as some other local sushi spots. I would like Zama to succeed and I hope that the quality of their fish can live up to the standard set by the chef's reputation, the staff, and the space

Over-rated. I'd eaten here before and the first two times were truly memorable for the interesting flavors/combinations, freshness of the sushi, and selection of fish. However things have taken a turn for the worse in the past year or so. Service was horrible. Flow/pace of service reflected a backed up kitchen and inadequate staffing. Our waiter was a punk. Definitely overpriced. The freshness of the sashimi is still notable but not worth the price, bad service, and noisy environs. Entirely disappointed and will never return.

I took my son to Zama when he was home from college because he loves sushi. The food was fine, but not great. We tried several special sushi's including Double Shrimp Dragon, Bronzizzle, Wasabi Lobster and Philly Style and we were not that excited about any of them. Our favorite was the Hamachi Tataki. Also, we were stuck in the back room which was boring and uninteresting. The service was slow at some points, but not bad. Overall, it was fine, but I would not come back as there are better places for sushi.
