ZahavwonderfulSpectacular meal, catering to the more adventurous5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMYou Must Try This Place! My husband and I went to Zahav this past weekend for his birthday. Besides having to wait 10 minutes past our reservation for a table, we loved it there! The food was excellent and so was the service. I would recommend doing the tasking menu ($34 pp). You get to try lots of different dishes that way. I recommend the fried cauliflower, the hanger steak and the hummas! SO GOOD and very reasonably priced.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFood great and innovativeZahav rarely disappoints. Dishes are tasty and well prepared. Food so innovative you won't find elsewhere.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome!!!Love the food especially the salads and lamb chops!! Great service and moderate price!!!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFun with foodA very interesting menu with flavors to please any palate!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was very good andThe food was very good and the lamb shoulder was excellent. The service was very good. The water glass was never empty and the wait staff were very friendly and they assisted us with choices from the menu.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderfulGreat service, loved 90% of the food, enjoyed the rest.
We went for the exotic, duck heart, lambs tongue. Both were amazing. They brought us the sunchokes on the house. Will go back for more.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMMust TryFirst, I have to thank Anthony Bourdain for turning me onto this place. After watching the lamb shoulder on my TV screen, I knew it was on my bucket list. Our entire table got the chef's tasting menu for the lamb shoulder and we're so glad we did.
For the main course, out came the whole lamb shoulder. It was brined for 3 days and then slow roasted. The meat was so tender they just gave you a pair on tongs to pull the meat off the bones. The brining really brought out a unique flavor that I never had before. By far the best lamb I've ever had. We barely made a dent in it and probably had about 3 lbs of meat that we took to go.
Overall, a great meal and plan to return if I come to Philly again.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulous night out.We came with visitors from California who love their food and wine.
We ordered a set menu and all loved every dish that was brought out.
The service was excellent ad the wine , though not an extensive range was very good.
Definitely a restaurant to return to, especially with people from out of town.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMa dining experience.Zahav is a very good restaurant. The food is carefully prepared and the waitstaff is knowledgeable. The noise level was difficult to tolerate. Even when the diners were not creating the high level, the music was so loud that you couldn't speak to the person next to you or across the table.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst visit & not our lastOur visit to Zahav was to celebrate my husband's birthday. We had a great time. We were expecting a more traditional atmosphere , but it was more upbeat. We were surprised by the 80's club music, but that added to our experience. The menu was a bit adventurous, hearts and cheeks not our thing, but we both found items that would be perfect for our tastes.
We absolutely loved the hummus, we had two different kinds, the traditional and the Turkish. We ended up ordering the same dishes for our "mezze" course & our server suggested trying some different options to better our experience, but being our first visit kept with them.
It was a great evening & we will be back - possibly for drinks and more hummus at the bar.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWondeful!Excellent service, food carefully and lovingly prepared, in a comfortable setting!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMYummyDelicious food. I loved the lamb shoulder, the hummus and salads, and surprisingly, the desserts. I suggest getting a tasting for your first time here.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent andThe food was excellent and nothing like I ever had before. I thought the wine list mark up was extremely high.5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMSurprised and thoroughly satisfiedRecommended by a friend and is now one of my top 5 North American restaurants. Over delivered on all dimensions. Wish I had time to write more. Wish I could spend more time in Philly, solely because of this restaurant5/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat good and great service....We arrived on time for our 8pm reservation but they didn't have a table ready right away so we had to wait about 15 minutes to get the table something that didn't even bother us and we didn't say anything. The hostess apologized for the wait, the manager offered us a complimentary dish, when we were leaving the person who we believe was the manager came over once again and apologized for the delay in getting us seated.
We wanted to go to this place for a while now and especially after the Anthony Bourdain show, we saw the person who I believe was the owner based on the show in the kitchen working and helping run things. The food was absolutely delicious but we were blown away by the service and attention to detail, highly recommend!!!!!!4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMPossibly the best chef inPossibly the best chef in Philly! Delicious, fresh and inventive cooking paired with an excellent wine list that highlights wines of Israel and Lebanon4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMThe "new Restaurant Revolution"Exciting menu delivered taste explosions in my mouth. It was like exploring a new world.
Perhaps the best restaurant experience I've had in ten years.
Next reservation must be for two couples. The sharing experience is much ehhanced with more possibilities.
The servers were upbeat, always around, and quick to answer all questions.
A thoroughly wonderful experience!4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMTop notch dining experience,Top notch dining experience, great bar/cocktails, outstanding food, and great service. Couldn't ask for anything more for a birthday celebration. Have the tasting menu with lamb - unbelievable!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMI travel for a living andI travel for a living and get paid to entertain clients at the finest restaurants in the country. Zahav's is my new favorite and it is close to home!!!4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMBest server in a long time!!Our group of 4 had a wonderful time. We were very indecisive as everything on the menu looked good and there were several tasting options that you could also choose from. Our server, Michael Vincent Ferrari, was especially patient with us and recommended a wonderful wine that we could all enjoy. After finally getting our strategy of how to attack the menu together we were pleasantly surprised to be treated to some of the dished we had debated about complements of the chef. We found out later that Michael Vincent also cooks at the restaurant. He was fantastic and made us all feel special, ensuring that we had a wonderful dining experience.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMVery well done. SuperlativeVery well done. Superlative food, service and ambiance.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, service was outstandingGreat food, service was outstanding. Bar service was a little slow, but a great experience overall. My only complaint was that the tables were way too close together...I would prefer not to have to hear every word spoken at the next table.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMZahav was a great dining experienceZahav was a great dining experience. Flavors had a sharp point of view with plenty of choices. Service was friendly, informative and technically on point. Food knowledge was impressive. i loved all the materials used in the decor. The best restaurant that I have been to in years
Great Job and kudos to Michcael Solomonov and his staff4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent. I amFood was excellent. I am not a big tapas person but thought they did a very good job with the portions of the food. I was getting full after the first course. Will definitely go back.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMUnbelievable food and service.Unbelievable food and service. Service was attentive without being intrusive. We did the tasting menu, and were so lucky to be able to taste so many of their wonderful dishes. The tastes and textures were so vivid, my son who just came back from Israel said it was exactly like being back there!
The lamb, which we were lucky enough to be able to order without 24 hours notice, fell off the bone. We hardly needed to chew! And the crispy rice and chickpeas added such a wonderful textural contrast to the soft meat.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperiorZahav is a superior restaurant. The food is consistently terrific & the way it's served is fun -- the salatim (salad) sampler to start with should be a requirement -- it's that good & different. When the little bowls come out, you might worry that you won't be getting enough to eat, but the evening rolls on & new plates arrive, & by the time dessert comes, you find all you can do is taste it. Specialty cocktails are really interesting, too. Unusual combinations that you won't find anywhere else. Can't wait to go back!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMMany people commented on theMany people commented on the great service, but I found it a little TOO attentive. A couple times several people asked us the same question within two minutes of each other. It was a little overwhelming. But that's hardly somethin to whine about. We were well taken care of! We loved the bread and hummus and salads and the flavors were modern but authentically middle eastern. A wonderful spot! We can't wait to return to try the lamb shoulder!!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMHummus and salatim was theHummus and salatim was the highlight of the meal, don't miss it!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting and deliciousInteresting and delicious variety of foods to try. Nice setting, great service! We will definitely be back again.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat dinner at ZahavThe food at Zahav did not disappoint. Very tasty options and the small plate serving sizes allows for you to try various items on the menu without being overwhelmed with large portions. Our only comment would be that the music selections were a bit strange for dining (Beastie Boys??) and in the beginning of our dinner we found we were shouting over the music to be heard. We will definitely be back. The Haloumi, beets and lamb meatballs were excellent.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMVery inventive gastronomicallyVery inventive gastronomically
Very solicitous service
Amazing chef's tasting menu!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMHad the tasting menu - veryHad the tasting menu - very good, although definitely too much food. The service was very attentive - you never had to think about having something brought to you, refilled or taken away. Overall a fantastic meal. The only complaint is that the wine pours are chintzy.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved every bite. Lamb mightLoved every bite. Lamb might be the best in the country.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMNovel food for the normal palate!Amazing dining experience that turned my notions of fast food middle eastern cuisine around. The well curated menu pushed culinary boundaries will still offering choices to the less daring. Small plates are designed to be shared. Zahav provides a unique dining experience bolstered by outstanding service. Would love to visit again!4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMZahav was amazing, a wonderfulZahav was amazing, a wonderful experience that went beyond just dinner. I went with a group of 6 and we did the tasting menu and were able to order almost everything on the menu. Definitely small plates but we were all able to have a taste of everything. Everyone had a different favorite but there was not one dish we wouldn't all order again.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMIt won't be easy but saveIt won't be easy but save room for the Konafi and Turkish coffee!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food and ServiceArrived early for reservations and we were able to be sat right away. Nice little table by the window, nice enough view. Inside was also very nice. I liked be able to see some of the chefs cooking. Service by Christina was great. She was very attentive and made great recommendations. Had the Mesibah and could not have picked anything better myself. Wonderful selection of different small plates. Every plate was better than the next.
The chef even sent out a "Gift" for my boyfriends birthday of brussel spout leaves with extra cripy lamb with a wonderful sauce drizzled on top! AMAZING!! This is certainly the place I'll be taking my family to when they come to visit from Panama. Kudos to everyone at Zahav for a fantastic culinary experience!!4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFun and enjoyable dining experienceFun and enjoyable dining experience. I love tapas and trying different foods. We had the $38 a person meal. It was a lot of food. Some of the dishes I loved. Some were a little too salty for my taste buds. It took about 2-2 2/12 to eat. Love the décor and Service was outstanding.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you are looking to tryIf you are looking to try something different, then Zahav is a great choice. Foodies will enjoy the different spices used to create modern Israeli cuisine. We kept it easy and tried the restaurants tasting menu. The tapas like plates of vegetables followed by the main course of brined, smoked, slow roasted lamb was amazing. The other signature is the hummus. Its wonderful. You won't be disappointed.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFor starters,we were late.WeFor starters,we were late.We hit terrible traffic and made a few wrong turns, but we called Zahav and they were so nice about everything. When we got there we explained that we only had an hour or so to eat because we had tickets for 8:00. Our server was super accomodating and really worked with us to get the most out of our dining experience. As for the food,we got the tasting menu. I love this "tapas" style of dining. Each of the salads was interesting and flavorful. My husband loved the hummus and I really liked the eggplant dish. For mezze, I got the calliflower and the salt cod. Both good, but the salt cod was really delicious. As was the moroccan chicken and the lamb meatballs. The ambience was casual and friendly. I'm out of space.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food is always terrificThe food is always terrific here. The small plate menu offers a lot of choices and the wait staff is informed, friendly and efficient.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMStill wonderfulContinues to be wonderful -- best hummus in the City, hands down. And such a beautifully decorated space. Fun, hip, romantic - it's all of those!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat meal, wonderful service!Great meal, wonderful service! Will definitely go back!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was pretty good--theFood was pretty good--the prices are pretty high, but I think it's the service you are really paying for. The service was outstanding--that's one thing I have to definiately say. The entire staff goes out of their way to serve to the utmost. The only downside I can think of was that the music was loud, so it was hard to have conversations easily. We were there early--from 5:30 to about 7:30, so that was still early on a Saturday night.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved our dinner at Zahav!Loved our dinner at Zahav! Went with another couple. Two were celebrating birthdays, which we told the waitress. We loved the price fixed menu that allowed each person to choose 2 starters and one entre and one dessert - we got to try many different bites of this and that! Really enjoyed most of them! We ended up with 4 desserts, more than we normally would have ordered, but no candle! When we realized that the candle was forgotten the waitress brought the dessert that we said was the favorite with the check, with candles(!) to make up for the oversight. Overall, very interesting and delicious food - great for sharing family style - would definitely go back again. Oh - also a very nice (though smallish) bar.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AM
