Diner Reviews
  • "Places like this are what make the restaurant scene in Toronto exciting. The food was unique and delicious. As well as the cocktails. John was very helpful and knowledgeable. We had a great time. We shall come back"

  • "Food is great. I say this is kind of a mixture of comfort food/fusion/fine dinning restaurant. Pretty creative dishes. Overall not bad experience. Service is good. One thing to pick on is they did not replace fork and knife after few dishes"

  • "We love food, we love uniqueness and creativeness, but I am sorry we did not enjoy our meal there, The chef went overboard in trying to be creative but he missed his mark. The food just did not taste good period. The portions were small, and yes I know the concept is sharing small plates. I would rather share larger plates. I happen to prefer more than one bite. I also think if you are selling soup shots, at least one should be a hot soup. The best part of the entire meal was your asparagus dish which was tasty. We have eaten all over the world in some of the finest restaurants, in many ethnic places , in many cool places etc. We left feeling unsatisfied, hungry and not impressed. Not a good choice for a special dinner"

  • "splendid food. Each small plate more delicious and beautifully plated than the one before. Well curated, edited wine by the glass as well as longer wine list with interesting choices. Professional service from the sweetest server imaginable. The whole experience was very polished. The decor is more art-house, 'hipster' casual - no doubt intended to highlight the food and wine but slightly surprising to diners accustomed to dropping $$$ on a lovely meal in glitzier surroundings. A keeper - I hope it thrives!"

  • "This was our first time back to Yours Truly since they converted to an a la carte menu on June 1st. All four of us thought this was some of the most creative and excellent food we had eaten in a long time. Remarkable attention to detail in the kitchen, and great taste experience. Very pleasant, professional service as well. Strongly recommended."

  • "Painstakingly composed plates. V good food. And a bartender who loves his job."

  • "One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had in this city. Absolutely amazing..... I would recommend this place to anyone and will be going again soon!"

  • "I had the opportunity to visit this niche spot recently with a veggie friend. Good menu options for vegetarian and meat eaters. A bit pricey but excellent food and service. Recommended."

  • "We had a great time trying the new a la carte menu...great vibe in the place and great feeling of sharing and trying new and delicious foods."

  • "after reading so many recomendations abt the place expectations were high... drinks were good and food too but nothing special, at alll the food menu was a bit limited in my opinion too"

  • "Delicious! We came early on a Sunday evening and were the only diners. Looked after really well and the food had a hint of playfulness, beautifully balanced, and delicious."

  • "Amazing. Actually the best meal I've had in Toronto. The chef knows what he's doing! "
    Dined on 5/29/2014
  • "Outstanding dishes with innovative presentation. But for the tasting menu, ten courses seem like duplicate in the taste. "
    Dined on 5/26/2014
  • "Delicious food! Creative, complex, locavore foraged ingredients, perfectly balanced flavours and textures, lovely to look at."
    Dined on 5/25/2014
  • "We had such a wonderful dinner here. Really exciting, intricately prepared, delicious dishes. Friendly, attentive service. Delicious cocktails. We all loved it! "
    Dined on 5/22/2014
  • "Sampled some very unusual things. Usually well executed. However, main courses should have been much more substantial. Could not really distinguish the "main"course from the amuse bouche. They were all very small including mains. Would be better to have 15 courses rather than 20 and have at least two dishes that seemed like a main course."

  • "Had the "surprise" menu and I must say most of the items were good, especially early on, but the desserts were disappointing. Definitely not the number 5 restaurant in Toronto, as per Joanne Kates. Service was good but inconsistent, one waitress (with the British/Aussie accent) was great, the others not so much. Not sure if I'll go back... Toronto has so many good restaurants.."

  • "We had the 5 course tasting. The other half and I have no allergies, so we basically ordered one menu each and split everything. The amuse bouches at the start were fun. Nettle soup was refreshing. The garlic knots were a lovely surprise... we had thought they were a "once" thing having had them last February. Great to see they are a staple. The service was fabulous, attentive but not intrusive. Great cocktails. If we lived in TO and lived in the area it would be my default night out."

  • "If the plates were much smaller I'd be thinking how it was a lousy deal for the price, but they were just big enough to almost have a good meal. But the size allowed and forced you to take smaller bites and thereby savor the extraordinary flavors of the food. "

  • "Dinner here was unlike anything I've ever had in Toronto. I did the 5-course meal (which was really 10 with all the amuse bouche courses) with my friend and both of us are vegetarian. We were excited to get to try so many interesting gourmet things that had no meat in them, but still of the calibre that I would expect to see in a 5-star high-class restaurant. It's hard to find anywhere that treats humble, simple vegetables with such finesse and class. We had no idea what was on the plate half the time, but it was creative and delicious no matter what we ate. "

  • "Food is great. Can't help but compare to Actinolite - very similar but more mainstream than Actinolite. Service landed somewhere between unconcerned and off-hand, but overall ok. Food is very good, but this city is awash in urchins, unfiltered wines, and root vegetables."

  • "Outstanding culinary experience. We dinned as a group of four and had the Carte Blanche tasting menu. There wasn't one weak dish. A very creative and delicious food adventure. Highly recommended."

  • "Two couples, out for the evening and wanting to eat, drink and talk. The service was great, the food was creative, interesting and full of flavour. In fact the food was fabulous and the wine pairings were very good and well-matched. I didn't like the soy dessert. I was unable to have the chocolate brownie, which I was told was amazing. The lighting was good. The seats were uncomfortable. I would like to come again, but the noise level is a real deterrent. We couldn't hear each other by 8:00. It was really disappointing. I noticed that all the surfaces in the restaurant are hard. There is nothing in the room to absorb sound. I would recommend the restaurant to friends, with the proviso about the noise level. "

  • "Bad combination of ingredients in to dishes with no taste. Bill was incorrect, over charged (55$!) Place was empty and unclean. One of the worst places I have been to in Toronto."

  • "presentation was amazing; every ingredient served its purpose in the dish!"
    Dined on 4/26/2014
  • "Yes, the 20 course tasting menu is an incredible exercise in indulgence. But in the end, it actually didn't taste that great. "
    Dined on 4/25/2014
  • "The exquisite food was beautifully presented with fantastic service! Our dinner could not have been any better! Looking forward to an a la carte menu later this year (so I can order three of everything!) "

  • "I've been to many restaurants among which some Michelin rated. Yours Truly is definitely on top of my list!"
    Dined on 4/17/2014
  • "Great food, great service, great atmosphere! My friend and I had the 5 course dinner and we both really enjoyed them. The only thing I can say bad about this place was that the portions were small...so I was still bit hungry after our dinner and we also had the cheese plate."

  • "Went for the carte blanche and was not impressed. The "meat" menu only has 3 actual meat courses and like 7 salad courses. Ridiculous for $100. Dessert was terrible and there was simply too much time between courses! We waited more than 20 mins at one point. We spent 4 hours in uncomfortable wooden chairs. The great thing about yours truly is the service! The serving staff was on point whenever our wine glasses we close to being empty, they were filled. Every dish was explained perfectly and all the questions we had were answered knowledgeably. The presentation of each dish was very nice also. Overall, an underwhelming experience. I would not go back, at least for the carte blanche ever again. It was simply not worth $100."
    Dined on 4/11/2014
  • "Food was excellent albeit a bit eclectic. You definitely pay for the presentation- while the food was great, the 4 hour duration and price was a bit pretentious."
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "We had the carte Blanche menu and it was a great experience. Service was friendly and courteous. Recommend the shaken and stirred drinks - great bartender. Food was creative without compromising taste. Definitely will recommend"

  • "The staff couldn't be nicer and more welcoming. Weren't initially that accommodating at first wehen we spoke on thhe phone but we ended up having a wonderful evening. Loved John the bartender who made some yummy drinks. Our lovely servers explained about each dish we were eating with knowledge and enthusiasm. We ate mostly from the vegetarian tasting menu. I think that the consensus was that we liked the pre menu food the best!! Would definitely return for more!!!"

  • "10 course chef tasting menu over the top. Accommodates vegetarians. Fancy food in a casual setting."
    Dined on 3/30/2014
  • "The food was very good - innovative and flavorful. The bread was probably the best I have had in Toronto served at a perfect warm temperature. A little surprised at the décor/ambience which was somewhat tired and sparse and did not fit with the food presentation. The very casually dressed wait staff provided decent service. It was packed on a Thursday night."

  • "This is a small space. Our reservation was for 8:30 & the 5 course. We arrived precisely at the appointed time however our table was not ready yet . However, we waited at the bar for more than a half hour before they paid the bill and left. The staff seemed a little scattered on this particular Sat. night. Once seated we got 2 different versions of the menu. we ordered the wine but they were out of glasses so it took some time to wash and polish. Once we ordered we waited a considerable amount of time before we got our 1st course. There seemed to be no pace to the kitchen. Two items arrived at the same time. The food is very good and creative and the servers know their stuff but it may be better on a week night."

  • "Plating was really beautiful and playful - love seeing local Ontario veggies shine! Great textures and flavours in every bite. We loved the Kimchee Brisket Ravioli, the Spinach leaf and crispy quinoa wrap, and the soy dessert was a surprise hit! Cocktails were perfection; we'll be back for their Old Fashioned and Martini flights - so cool!!"

  • "Great value for an outstanding tasting menu that combines some french, molecular gastro, asian for a tasty experience. The food was creative and tasty, and a fraction of the price you might spend for a similar experience (20 course carte blanche) in other big foodie cities like NYC or SF. My companion was vegetarian, and I think what makes Yours Truly stand out is the fact that the veg options aren't just an afterthought but are given equal consideration to the ominvore option. I liked the unpretentious neighborhood vibe of the front of house; also thought the service was super friendly and that the team was really interested in both the food and drink. Be prepared for a long night if you are doing the 20 course, but time well spent."

  • "Had the tasting menu...very heavy in terrine-like textures. Definitely left hungry. The first course was promising, but by the end, we needed a burger. I felt like for the price, it could have been a better value. "
