Came for dinner before seeing some live music. Beautiful building and decor. Innovative dishes carefully prepared. Friendly and attentive staff. I will go back for dinner and a show in the near future. The kale Caesar salad with miso infused dressing was different and delicious. The ahi tuna with a poached egg had flavors I had never encountered before, but the tuna may have been not as fresh as I would have liked, but still very tasty dish. The server's recommendations were all good choices.

Yoshi's San Francisco has far better food than Oakland. Ambiance is great - clean modern space with less crowded tables. Sushi menu had special one "From Tsukiji" with difference kind of sushi you can get in Japan. Other menu items are good - my husband enjoyed chicken and I ordered one of sushi rolls from regular menu. Dessert is sophisticated - green tea panna cotta and chocolate cake with black sesame ice cream. It was not cheap but I would come back before the concert.

If you attend a show at Yoshi's in San Francisco, do yourself a huge favor and eat elsewhere, or perhaps order food inside the show. We went there on a Sunday evening show and set up a reservation for 1.5 hours prior to showtime. We were seated quickly and our server came fairly quickly, but that was it for "quick." We were told that there were many menu items which were not available that evening - um, OK, although it was 7:30pm so hardly after a long dinner rush, but we could deal. We ordered edamame, miso soup, a couple appetizers, some nigiri and some rolls. Not extensive. After 20 minutes, we were told miso was out. The edamame came after 40 min, after we asked. The nigiri came after an hour. We cancelled the rolls after 1.25 hrs. Bad.

This review is for the restaurant: Distracted servers, mediocre food, sake that came after the third inquiry and a hefty bill. This was supposed to be a nice dinner with our son on a Saturday night. The new owners don't seem to care, in the past Yoshi's used to be one of our favorite places. Take a look at the dirty and disarranged curtains when you are on Fillmore, that says it all. We left after the appetizers and went across the street to Sheba Piano Lounge. We had great live music, great atmosphere, servers where very attentive and food was super delicious.

Plenty of other places you can get expensive sushi in SF. Service was slow and not a lot of folks there to dine. First and last time I will dine there. I'll stick to going there for good Jazz shows.

terrible service. waiter did not check on us after our food was brought to the table. ordered edamame and it was never brought to the table. ordered one glass of wine and other waiter brought over two glasses, and then I was charged for both when the other was returned to the other waiter. waiter was slow in bringing the check and then was slow charging my card and I had tickets to the 10pm show. when I showed the waiter that he charged me for two glasses of wine, he seemed to get a attitude about it.

We made dinner reservations at Yoshi's SF because we wanted to get reserved seating in the music hall. Unfortunately, the menu selections were much more limited than in prior visits. It seems they're in transition between the previous owner and the new ownership, and they haven't invested much in their dining offerings. The sushi rolls were ok, but the roasted brussel sprouts and their pork belly starter dishes were very mediocre. It made me not want to go back to Yoshi's San Francisco again.

I am sure that the new owners will want to improve the appearance of the worn out seats that have patches in them and the amateurish service. The food was really great as usual. The service in the club was pretty awful. Cold coffee, soda water instead of tonic, a server who did not care at all.

There was no hostess, which made it difficult to get seated. The waitstaff were taking turns manning the hostess stand. The food was great . . . when it arrived. I was there on a date so it was a little awkward when my entree showed up a full 5 minutes before my date's entree arrived. It also made us a little late for the show we were there to see.

The food at San Francisco is good, but the portions are SO small, especially the appetizers. We ordered fish tacos and they were the size of my thumb. The salad greens were excellent. Excellent sushi. Service is relatively attentive but moderately slow. The food at Yoshi's in Oakland is better.

I have always been a big fan of Yoshi's S.F. but things seemed to have changed. Atmosphere still great, but food was not that great. Our chicken was dry and it was served with some dry tasting cheese grits (WTH). We chose this because there were on 5 entrees to choose from. We did enjoy the kale salad and sushi but that's about it. I remember the menu being much more extensive. I wonder has the menu changed in Oakland also? To be so expensive, I'm scared to try. Next time we will eat before we go to a show.

It has been far too long a time since I have visited Yoshi's, and the visit to the San Francisco venue was a first. The ambiance, energy, food and service were all first class, the convenience of parking was a welcome surprise. The music was excellent and well performed but the club felt over crowded - looking forward to future performances though.

We found outstanding service in accommodating a special needs food wise. However, the chicken was over cooked. The rest of the meal was excellent. I was closer to the neighboring guest than to my date which spoiled any intimacy and it was loud. I could hear other guest conversations, they were having to be really loud which drowned out our conversation. Our table was rocking due to unevenness in the floor bent table leg. Other than those items, we enjoyed a very rare night out.

Food is good, but not special for an SF eatery specializing in Asian cuisine. Good Sake list and moderately priced. Booking early dinner helps as things get hectic and the wait staff can get overwhelmed and forget things. Table next to us started later and had a few orders mixed up and not delivered with their dining partner's main course. In the music venue, one must choose their table well and be familiar with the seating. As a mature couple we do not like to sit on the high bar stools chairs. Tables with conventional chairs are tightly arranged so that can be a little uncomfortable. Lighting and sound system worked well and the Keiko Matsui group were outstanding to hear and watch.

Always loved going to Yoshi's, food's been great, really enjoy going from dinner to the jazz club. This time, however, the wait staff was totally checked out. Our two entrees showed up staggered in time, with no prior discussion with our waiter. My half-finished drink almost left the table as he picked it up off the table, looked at it, and then asked if I wanted another. The offer of dessert came so late in the meal that we didn't have time for it during our dinner despite having arrive almost two hours before showtime. Benign neglect would be the most charitable description of our treatment. I know they have new ownership, I hope this is an aberration and not indicative of the direction things are going to go from now on.

Yoshi's continues to deliver a one stop night on the town. Easy nearby parking, delicious, interesting food (especially the appetizers) great sake and always friendly efficient service. The tables are visually interesting but not really conducive to sweet nothings conversation unfortunately. That said it still has a chic, romantic vibe. Then some great music in the nightclub and there's little more to ask for!

The web site stated that if you have dinner reservations , the staff would reserve your seats for the concert show. That didn t happen. Some employees looked at me as if I was crazy. After talking with 4 different staff employees someone finally honored my request. The seat however was way in the back. The reserved spots were taken and if the process changed with this new so called mgmt then it should not be on their website. The hostess in dinner room was rude. and not helpful. very disappointed with their attitudes.

The kale Caesar salad is delicious. Also ordered the chicken with polenta, another winner. It took an hour for us to get our salad and our entree was plated 15 min before the show started. Seemed a little long to wait for a party of 3. The food, when we finally got it was good but I felt I had to eat too quickly to enjoy it. We'll eat in the lounge next time

It was awkwardly spacious. I assume it fills up but it was pretty empty for a Friday night. The food was amazing though and I'm pretty picky about my sushi. The grilled peach salad was also delicious. I would recommend it to a friend. Japanese food is expensive whether or not it's good so finding a quality joint is wonderful. I usually go to Ichi sushi b/c I know it's good but this place is so much closer to my house. A great find! Our server was attentive and the staff worked as a team. Maybe it was a coincidence but every time I asked for a suggestion the server suggested the most expensive item.

My guest did not like sushi, so we went to other items. Arugula salad with peaches was fabulous, the dressing just right! I had the ahi tuna which was nicely prepared but served over cold noodles and sauce. It obviously had been sitting a long time waiting to be served - not too appetizing. My guest had monkfish which was served hot and was delicious. Server never asked if we wanted tea or dessert - just brought the check. Not the best for service. She was serving a large group as well so might have gotten overwhelmed.

I had been reading some reviews on-line and several were negative, I was a bit apprehensive as I was taking a group of 6 to enjoy a Blues Artist friends son from the UK. But the food was great, the service was great and the show was great. So things worked out, just goes to show you can't always take other people's word too seriously. I think sometimes the good experiences don't get as much attention as the bad ones. I was definitely glad we went there.

What sets Yoshis apart is having a package for great food and great music. But each is an excellent standalone experience. Have eaten here a dozen times since they've opened, most in combination with a show and don't recall ever having a bad experience. Had superb service this Sat. by Nadia (her smile could light up the city) and an excellent array of appetizers, sushi, and salads. Actually think that the food has gotten better over the years. My only criticism, and it is minor, is that the menu is a little limited. Of course, with a more expansive menu, the quality might decline. Overall a terrific experience.

I'm attended countless music events in both Yoshi's Oakland and SF. I've had dinner at Yoshi's Oakland many many times. This was the first time we've had dinner in Yoshi's SF before the Music Soulchild show. The menu wasn't very interesting. The taste and food was just OK. We had a bunch of appetizers from the simple boiled edamame to the roasted brussel sprouts. The brussel sprouts were good that is served with the califlower puree. It was interesting that it was extremely hard to get a reservation for Friday night but as we had dinner at 7:45, half the restaurant was actually empty! Go figure. The restaurant is beautifully done.
