A word from Yoshi's Oakland
Yoshi's has served Japan's best traditional dishes to Bay Area patrons since 1972. The menu highlights artfully arranged sushi, fresh grilled seafood, classic Japanese dishes, and vegetarian fare. Patrons can kick off their shoes in the traditional Japanese tatami seating or dine at tables. Expert
sushi chefs create sushi and sashimi to order either in the restaurant or in
the jazz house. Start the evening in the cocktail lounge before dinner or
have a nightcap after taking in a show in the jazz house.

In a highly unusual turn of events the food that night was far less than what I am used to at Yoshi's. Our baby spinach and bacon salads were tasty enough, but the shrimp tempura ordered by two of us was flavor less and uninspiring. My soft shell crab was adequate. The Brian Culbertson concert however was outstanding.

This was the first time I tried the dinner with a show deal...may not do it again though. 6:30 reservation already out of the Saikyo Miso Black Cod, the Rib Eye was tough but tasty, the Duck Breast was good but three slices could not be chewed. The KALE and Baby Romaine Miso Caesar had VERY LITTLE KALE, the Tempura Shrimp were good with the little bit of sauce they drizzled, batter had NO flavor. would not let us order the Kobe Beef Burger (which is my dining companion's favorite) because it is only on the CLUB/LOUNGE menu. Felt very rushed. BRIAN CULBERSON WAS GREAT!!!

The service from the hostess to food server was awful. They are not friendly here and look like they are unhappy to be there. I still gave 20% because I refuse for them to rationalize their rude behavior. We were seated towards the back . The noise vibrates and echos creating an atmosphere where you have to yell with food in your mouth. Otherwise nobody can hear you. I waiter was not attentive. We had to ask for drinks, silverware and he disappeared when it was time to pay. Our party had to go to the front greeter and ask for our waiter. We stood at the front door and waited around for another ten minutes in an attempt to pay for our dinner. As we stood near the front door the greeter finally found him. The waiter appeared very indifferent, nonchalant took our payment for the dinner and left. Needless to say we were not very impressed with our dining experience and most likely will think twice about coming back for dinner. Great show

We had a wonderful time. Yoshi's is a Japanese restaurant. As a vegetarian, I was able to find at least four main dishes that were suitable for vegetarians. The small sides are also suitable for vegetarians. The produce was fresh and well prepared. If you have tickets for a show and eat at the restaurant, you are given reserved seats in their famously intimate music hall. A great date night! We will be visiting again for sure!

We usually have dinner before attending a show (They reserve your seats if you do). Fusion-Japanese Cuisine with sushi and sushi rolls. We had the Seaweed Salad, Tempura, Gindara, Duck Breast, Panko Eggplant, High Note Sushi Combo and some assorted rolls. Everything was prepared and presented well. The potions were just right. The duck and gindara were especially good. Fro dessert the Kuro Crème Brulee was excellent. They also have a great sake list.

My main complaint is the service, which detracted from the whole experience. From the moment we arrived, the servers aggressively pushed us to order more food and drink than we wanted, which was annoying. The server brought our main courses before we had finished our appetizers, so we felt rushed and there was little room at the table for everything. Then one of them asked three times if he could clear a plate that we were not finished with. The food is overpriced and the bill was outrageous for what we ate, and for a meal that is required in order to obtain good seats at a show. Although the food is good and the ambience is lovely, I left with a bad taste in my mouth.

Martini was sour and tasted like a mix was used. Hamachi starter had too much sauce which smothered the fish, mango and other toppings. Too tart. Rib eye was outstanding, but should offer two sizes: 6 oz and 12 oz, since two six ounce fillets are served. It was a waste, since I was staying in a hotel and couldn't take back leftovers. Expensive for ala carte. Waiter did not explain anything to me, but did to other tables. Probably because I was a solo diner and a woman. It's a music venue first and foremost. Front of house was very helpful.

Yoshi's Oakland has always been a gem in the music scene and the Jack London area - it is a favorite for fine quality jazz and music shows! The restaurant on the other hand is good but not really special. The decor is very nice and the service has improved over the years, but the food itself is medium quality at high prices. And they like you to buy dinner in order to reserve the best seats at the jazz club, a system I don't really approve of. The menu has western items as well as sushi so it can appeal to a wide variety of diners. But prices are quite high and the quality of the food is not the highest of caliber. My soft shell crab was fried and greasy inside. Sushi was fresh but not special. The salad was excellent however. Service ok
