A word from Yoshi's Oakland
Yoshi's has served Japan's best traditional dishes to Bay Area patrons since 1972. The menu highlights artfully arranged sushi, fresh grilled seafood, classic Japanese dishes, and vegetarian fare. Patrons can kick off their shoes in the traditional Japanese tatami seating or dine at tables. Expert
sushi chefs create sushi and sashimi to order either in the restaurant or in
the jazz house. Start the evening in the cocktail lounge before dinner or
have a nightcap after taking in a show in the jazz house.

  • "The sushi rolls are fresh and spectacular. The staff is always friendly and helpful. Our server was gentle, attentive, and smooth; never rushed, which we prefer. Along with the Show, it is ALWAYS a memorable evening at Yoshi's!!"

  • "Our food and wine selection was good, but the entrees were delivered half an hour apart. When I mentioned it to the server and asked why the table next to us got their food first, his answer was "their order must have gone in first." Right."

  • "Whenever I am able, I enjoy visiting the restaurant at Yoshi's before a show. The food is excellent and the service meets high standards. The ambience is always upbeat and lively. Thumbs up."

  • "My wife and I went there for our 43rd anniversary dinner and to see the the group we had some special memories with. It was our first time at Yoshi's and we were very impressed with the service at the check in desk and the restaurant. Not a bad seat in the venue. We will certainly return and recommend to others."

  • "We had another wonderful dinner at Yoshis. At least for us, when you eat there and you are going to see a concert, they save you a REALLY GOOD seat. It's happened twice for us so I'm sold on eating there when we are attending a concert! Very nice people, really good food and great service. We have seen two great concerts."

  • "food was great and the concert was awesome. It did take a little to get our food, so we were a little late getting to our seats. Other than that it was a wonderful experience. Would go again."

  • "Food was nicely presented. Service in restaurant was poor to fair. Service in club was good."

  • "Sorry to say but we were disappointed. I have heard so much about Yoshi's and have to say on a scale of 1-10........I'd give it a 4. We traveled three and a half hours to be greeted with a extremely LOUD and chaotic dinner experience, crammed into a small table having to dodge the waiters..... having to speak very loud just to talk and place our order...not to mention we couldn't hear our waitress and needed her to repeat half of what she said....not enjoyable. On top of all that the food was okay.....not great just okay. for what we paid I would have rather just ate at Burger King....sad but true. I am not one who jumps on the web to complain about someones business but in this situation it was required."

  • "Great venue. Did the dinner with concert and it was definitely the way to go. Seated immediately. I booked dinner an hour and a half before the show which left plenty of time for a leisurely dinner and having reserved seats was a plus versus the cattle call. Food was good and reasonably priced for sushi. Caberet style seating for the show. Crowded but that's the way it is."

  • "Yoshi's has maintained a high level of interesting Japanese fusion cuisine. It does include a both traditional and "extreme" rolls sushi offerings. We dined prior to attending a concert so within 30 minutes of opening, the dining room was packed. Service was still very good. The calamari and nasu/tofu appetizers were very good. The short rib "tempura" lacked flavor but the mustard sauce helped. The duck was excellent - tender, cooked to order and not over sauced. Overall a very good experience but I would say it is a little overpriced for the portions."

  • "Were told dinner reservation hour before show time, no problem with good seat in show and would be able to be comfortable in 1hr15min eating time. Sent to three different workers to find show seats, each time a different story. 20 minutes before show, server arrived with our seating, worst seat in the house. Had to leave the table to search for help to change. Finally usher+bribery worked. Also, was the 31st celebration for son and NOONE wished him a happy birthday or gave dessert or anything. I have NEVER, in my 61 years, been to a restaurant who refused to acknowledge a birthday. So, the long and short is that you did not recognize a birthday, the dining experience was marred by anxiety over the seating arrangements despite my effort."

  • "This is one of the best birthday celebrations I've ever had. The food was amazing! We ordered calamari, which was lightly crispy on the outside, and the meat melts in your mouth., we also ordered the crispy hamachi roll and spider roll ( soft shell crab). Generous servings, and simply delicious! Service was fast and friendly, but unhurried. Our waiter, Michael, was highly professional. He made sure we are not late for our 'meet & greet' with Keiko Matsui. He even offered me my favorite Creme Brûlée as a treat! Meeting Keiko was a real pleasure. She's very friendly and has a beautiful personality. The show started on time and exceeded my expectations. The ushers were very efficient. We definitely will come back! Yoshi's...what a true gem!"

  • "We went to have dinner before the late show, just so we could try to stay awake. We were surprised - the food was wonderful. Tasty with beautiful presentation. Nice sized portions and nicely prepared. We also found out that if you dine before a show, they give you preferred seating for the show. A great night out. The dinner menu has dinner entrees and sushi and more. We had the scallops and the salmon and a side order of grilled asparagus - awesome. We live in the central valley, but definitely plan to come back here."

  • "Awesome sushi and sashimi, nice cocktails, and a fantastic venue for live music. For dessert, get the panne cotta and pass on the creme brûlée. Be advised that if your staying for music you must reserve your table no later than one hour before the show. The restaurant didn't notify us if this until the last moment do we had to rush to get there. But we made it and it was worth it send we will do it again."

  • "When it comes down to excellent Japanese cuisine this is the place. If you enjoy great flavors you will not be disappointed. Freshness is the description when eating their salads. Great combination of flavors in their sushi rolls."

  • "My wife and I had dinner before Stanley Clarke's show on Sunday, absolutely great food. The grilled brussel sprouts were superb. Lobster tempura!! Sides of spinach and roasted eggplant with silky tofu were outstanding. My wife said the desserts were the best, I thought the main meal was, but I think we're both right."

  • "Service and food are always good. My only gripe is I had to rush through my dinner and was still late to my show. Tried to make earlier reservations, but none were available. Our server was very good, and suggested things he thought we might like. Black sesame creme brule is to die for!"

  • "We didn't go to the Jazz Show, but we sure enjoyed the fantastic food at Yoshi"s! The Hamachi Crudo was superb! The Miso soup was very good, as was the Spicy Geisha Roll. Highly recommend Yoshi's! The service was very good, even though it was very busy."

  • "Great atmosphere, pleasant staff, if you are all about the food, skip this location and go straight to the sf location because the difference in quality of preparation and presentation is very noticeable. The SF kitchen must have some real pros, while this kitchen seems to be more of your average restaurant."

  • "We came for a special performance and it was very good. We scheduled dinner and our reservation was good to a T. The food presentation looked attractive but there was little substance. My black bass had a great taste and texture but it was smallish. The vegetable was brocellini and I think there were 3 florets only. My partner was disapointed with the shell fish dinner because she could hardly find anything worth looking for; the mussels were the tiny one, an inch long. "Come on guys!" "Be willing to give a little more for the money we pay. After all, outside of it's reputation, the restaurant isn't that great for these days.."

  • "I love Yoshi's Oakland. The food is okay but the service is so outstanding your forget about the lack in food. The drinks are better in the house than in the restaurant. It's a great place to see your favorite artist because there is no bad seat."

  • "The tempura is the very best ever. Succulent pieces of seafood and vegetable mixed together in a light batter come out in a lace-like patty. Melt in your mouth sashimi. Service was excellent and everyone was friendly and attentive. The music venue is terrific. If you make a dinner reservation with your venue ticket, they give you a great seat and deliver your seating ticket to you during your meal. You can also have a snack and drink during the show but all I had room for was a brandy stinger which you can't get everywhere. The prices aren't low, so don't expect to get away cheap. But all in all, for a special evening, Yoshi's is perfect!"

  • "Total Chaos as we walked in to lobby. No kind of organization at all. Looked like staff was running around with no sense of plan. There was no line for those who made dinner reservations at all. Just a large group of people stressed out because of lack of organization by staff. Then we ordered 2 items of sushi. One item we got in a ok time frame but second roll took over 50min & I'm not over exaggerating At all wish I was. All in all we were very very disappointed with our experience with restaurant. Not sure we will dine there again. Unfortunately we love the music thankfully because if not we would probably would not return at all to any yoshis especially the Oakland venue!"

  • "My son and I had pre-concert dinner reservations. We arrived here 10-15 minutes early and were immediately seated. Our server (I forgot her name) was so attentive, made sure we got our food and drinks on time and we got the best seat in the house for the concert (Table #17). I would suggest to anyone who wants to kill their sushi craving to come here and I highly recommend to have pre-concert dinner reservations for the best seats in the house. I have been here numerous times and their service, food & concerts are like fine wine, they get better with time. Thank you."

  • "We ordered the maguro and sake (salmon) nigiri to start the meal, which were very good. My husband liked the salmon dish that he ordered. I ordered the miso black cod for dinner which was really bland. Had it not been for the nicely salted, house-made potato chips, I would have had to season my fish and broccolini with the soy sauce from the sushi."

  • "3 couples got together to see Leo Kottkee at Yoshi's. Dinning there was just part of the plan as none of us had eaten there before. We were greeted warmly, seated promptly, served pleasantly, and our seats to show we saved while we ate. And eat we did!! The 6 of us ordered numerous selections of small plates of delicious sushi. Each with unique sauces offering a great variety of wonderful fresh fish. And then off to the show which was spectacular!!"
