A word from Yoshi's Oakland
Yoshi's has served Japan's best traditional dishes to Bay Area patrons since 1972. The menu highlights artfully arranged sushi, fresh grilled seafood, classic Japanese dishes, and vegetarian fare. Patrons can kick off their shoes in the traditional Japanese tatami seating or dine at tables. Expert
sushi chefs create sushi and sashimi to order either in the restaurant or in
the jazz house. Start the evening in the cocktail lounge before dinner or
have a nightcap after taking in a show in the jazz house.

Diner Reviews
  • "The service was superb we really enjoyed the food and the staff. I will definitely be coming again. I have been to both the Oakland and San Francisco location and I've enjoyed them both!"

  • "We've been to Yoshi's jazz club to see many artist, however have never dined in the restaurant, after this experience in the tatami room, we realized we had been missing another great treat Yoshi's have had to offer."

  • "We were attending a concert & decided to have dinner at Yoshis so that we could get "priority" seating at the show. WHAT A WASTE! The food(sushi) was okay but WAY overpriced as was everything else on the "limited" menu! And my boyfriend ordered a Long Island Ice Tea that had sooo much coke in it that my a kid could've drank it! And I guess we're gluttons for punishment because we also ordered food once we went inside(for the show)as well...WHY?!!! Roasted-non flavored, charred, DRY, Brussels sprouts & bland little fried chicken pieces-oh yes and yet another weak Long Island.....I'm very disappointed overall! I frequent Yoshis in the Fillmore(which I hear has been sold)often and the food & drinks(and service) are so much better!! Just bad!!"

  • "Staff was warm and friendly and our server was really good. The only down fall is there were a lot of flies where we were sitting and the windows should have curtains in case you want more privacy gets distracting with all the people walking around. The food was excellent."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "We were going for a show had dinner first everything we ordered was good the ceaser salad was big enough to share. The lobster sushi and chicken was very good. The hot sake was also good."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "Service and food are consistently good; atmosphere is energetic. My family and friends always make it a point to have dinner there before attending our selected show."
    Dined on 7/19/2014
  • "This was my first time here, and it was awesome!!! The food was so good, the waitress was so nice. The over all experience was awesome. We then went to see Leela James and the show was awesome as well. She show out. We seat with a couple of ladies and they was so friendly. So that experience was great. We was able to go up front to take pictures of Leela with no problem. Came back to our table, the ladies paid for our drinks. It just kept getting better and better."

  • "At the prices they get, soup and rice should not be an "extra". Salmon, two sushi roll orders. NO drinks. Over $100 with tip. Outrageous for a restaurant with active train tracks right next to the window we sat at. Such a lovely view of the Amtrack commuter train. The food was OK, the sushi rolls a little bit "fishy" tasting. At these prices it should have been the sushi I ever ate. It wasn't even close."

  • "My mom had the honey glazed pork chop which had NO flavor. The waitress was nice enough to bring a miso dipping sauce to help it a little, but it wasn't enough. I had the mussels which were OK except for some sand granules. Overall the pricing was too high for such mediocre food."

  • "Been here many times to dine before a show. The sushi is always fresh--really exceptional compared to most sushi bars. In addition, they offer excellent salads & entrees--large enough to share--tasty and well-prepared. This is a solid restaurant even if one is not attending a show. Food is also offered in the small show venue. We had dessert--gelato & brownie a la mode--yummy and ample portion to share."

  • "The "noise level" question above should include a box that give the choice of "too noisy". I am not sure what Yoshi's can do about the noise of patrons enjoying their food - which was good. Maybe sound deadening wall covers. The glass wall are a cool design feature that I like. It just was hard to have a conversation while eating the food that I enjoyed. Maybe a heavy curtain separating the dining area. Anyway the Escovedo performance was cool."
    Dined on 7/12/2014
  • "Because I am a sushi lover, I would always choose sushi at Yoshi's but this time I thought..live outside your box and got the duck instead…mistake, stick to sushi. The duck was ok but only ok compared to sushi that is always excellent."

  • "We saw Greg Adams. Food is great! Go to dinner to get best seats at the shows and avoid standing in line. An opportunity for me to enjoy some really good sushi."

    Dined on 7/7/2014
  • "Good service. Knowledgable about food. Wonderful presentation. Great concert"
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "Not very fresh sushi. Deserts were stale and tasteless. Service was spotty, but to be expected with a pre-performance crowd."

  • "My husband and I frequent this wonderful spot on a regular basis and have never been disappointed. The food and service is always top notch, and the show this evening was one to remember. The Count Basie Orchestra was excellent! The food at Yoshi's SF is no where as good. Thank you Yoshi's for all the great memories!"

  • " Went to a concert. Dined before eating. Threw up in my plate!!! Had not finished eating. Maybe the combination of food. Japanese with American but, could bot attend the show."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "A beautiful restaurant, amazing service, nice ambience but the portions were small for the price. Skip the sashimi, it seems like a lot but more of an appetizer with thinly sliced fish."
    Dined on 7/4/2014
  • "I have been to Yoshi's both for dinner and entertainment in the show room and have never been disappointed. Everything I have eaten in the restaurant has always been excellent to say the least!"

  • "The people here go out of their way to make your combined dining/concert experience stress free and pleasurable. It is nice that you can order lots of starters if you want (or not). The food is inconsistent and the sushi menu very limited. The grilled Brussels sprouts were great (and I have never been a sprout head). The tempura lobster disappointed: it was very bland, and served with what seemed to be a cup of plain old ketchup. The tempura "fritter" reminded me of when I once tried to make hash brown potatoes and they turned into a gluey mess. The risotto was good, with the scallops perfectly prepared. If you eat dinner when you have concert tix, they will reserve seats for you and this makes your dining experience very relaxed."

  • "This was my first time to a place as amazing as Yoshi's. The seating is comfortable and relaxed with an atmosphere of calm serenity. The food was better than what mere words could describe. Simply mind blowing experience."

  • "sushi rice was mushy, homemade miso sauce for vegetables too sugary, hot saki lukewarm too cold after one sip, ambiance and service very good"
    Dined on 6/25/2014
  • "Food was very good but did not have the wow factor. High end food price. Not your typical Japanese menu. Unique menu. Recommend reviewing (download) menu so you are not surprised. We had rainbow roll - nothing special; seafood risotto - very good; tofu appetizer - fresh but not wow. Excellent service and atmosphere. We came to listen to jazz and as restaurant customers, they reserved fantastic seats in the Yoshi jazz club, otherwise, wait in line."

  • "Yoshi's is a special place. We come for the show and dinner and it's a great venue and dining experience. Some food items are better than others but nothing is mediocre. I think food is reasonably priced, service is very good, and the show is always a special experience."

  • "I am a big fan of Paul Taylor's. So I was so excited to see that he was playing at Yoshi's! Our friend from down south joined us for dinner and the concert We had a great evening and it started with dinner"

  • "Food and service both great. Made reservations for a party of 8. Out table was ready when we arrived and the food we ordered started arriving shortly after. Then we attended a wonderful smooth jazz concert there, featuring saxophonists Paul Taylor and Marion Meadows. Lovely evening all around for everyone in our group."

  • "We have eaten here a few times, but this time the food was not cooked right. The eggplant was overcooked as well as the brussel sprouts. The lobster was plain"
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "The table-to-show procedure is pretty well-oiled and makes for better show seating, and service friendly and competent. But the food itself is not good enough to warrant a visit. Wait staff inside the club are incredible- super-efficient without being crabby."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "We ordered the lobster tempura, which was excellent, and the fried brussels sprouts,,which everyone was crazy about. The vegetable tempura was also very good as was the glazed salmon. The shrimp tempura lost a little crunch but not too bad. Hard to get that crispness perfect."
    Dined on 6/17/2014
  • "Have been a patron on and off for years and years for the Jazz more than for food. I don't eat sushi - I ate the fish and it was great. I eat okra but this was the first time I believe I actually TASTED okra. Very nice. Server was efficient and courteous. The other help were good as well. A little slow once the place started to get packed out but it was fine. I got served and plates cleared and check delivered in reasonable fashion. Waiter even let me swap out my veg selection even after it has been brought to the table."

  • "If you're expecting tradtional style Japanese dishes this is not the place to go however the choices were exquisite, delicious and well presented. Justine our server was superb in every way making our dining experience an enjoyable one."

  • "I've been to Yoshi's many times, but this last time going there was my first time going in about 3 years. As always, the food was great. I remember the service being very good, but this time, the service was just ok. Our server wasn't as attentive as I expected. When it came time to pay the check, I actually left my seat to get the attention our server to hand her the payment. My date's order wasn't quite correct either. Other than that, the main entrees were outstanding. We shared a dessert, the cheesecake, but it was too thick, so we didn't eat much of it. Our server did remove it from the check. When the dessert came, we weren't given any silverware to eat it. Still, I recommend Yoshi's, especially for a dinner and a show."

  • "Food was great and the show was awesome! A great dining experience."
    Dined on 6/12/2014
  • "Yoshi's has always been like this... the food is good (not outstanding), but way over-priced, so the whole experience turns out to be kind of a bummer. I think they feel like they can get away with this because you have to eat at the restaurant in order to get a decent seat for the show (this is why I keep coming back), but to me that's no way to run a business. There are far too many fantastic food options in Oakland these days... people shouldn't have to be trapped eating at Yoshi's just so they can see the band up close, and they wouldn't FEEL trapped if Yoshi's took it down a notch price-wise, which they could totally do by focusing on quality rather than up-scale presentation. Our server was wonderful... there's something."

  • "We were there for the Jon B concert and had dinner first the food was delishous especially the veggie tempura"
    Dined on 6/7/2014
  • "Service was fine. Restaurant was Extremely noisy. Will not return because of the noise level. We were yelling at each other just to communicate. Food was OK. Tempura was dry and bland. Brown rice was even drier ----go with white rice. The jazz club was really nice. People sitting with us in the club suggested coming for a drink and an appetizer, not for dinner."
