A word from Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse
The Y.O. Ranch Steakhouse is legendary for its extensive wild game selection, and many of those same animals roam freely over our 48,000 acre ranch and namesake near Kerrville, Texas.

For those in the mood to try something out of the ordinary, the Y.O. offers venison, game birds and our signature dish, the buffalo filet mignon.

The beef at the Y.O. is U.S.D.A. Prime and is hand-cut in house. We employ a method very similar to the one the ranch hands have been using for more than 125 years.

The Y.O Steakhouse private dining, bar and banquet facilities can accommodate parties from 20-300 for business or pleasure, day or night. Your guests will experience a uniquely Texan and memorable dining experience combined with the highest quality food and service available.

Diner Reviews
  • "We went for restaurant week and were pleasantly surprised that many items on their regular menu were on the restaurant week menu. Appetizers looked like they could be a main course on their own! Food was really good; our server was outstanding. We'll be back."

  • "The service here was impeccable! We were seated as soon as we arrived, the waiter greeted us quickly, he granted all of our request without hesitation, the other servers were great as well, the food came out in a timely manner and was very good. The rib-eye apparently was seasoned and cooked to perfection (I don't eat beef..my boyfriend loves steak). I enjoyed the fried green tomatoes and chicken fried lobster was different but tasty. To top it off, the apple tart was outstanding. Would definitely recommend to others."

  • "We went for Restaurant Week in hopes of discovering a new place to dine. We found it. We had the Fried Green Tomatoes and Lamb Ribs for appetizers - both very good. Then we had the beef filet and the buffalo filet for entrees - again very good; prefer the beef over the buffalo. We ordered both the apple and chocolate dessert - the apple was OUTSTANDING; chocolate so-so. We'll be back."

  • "Given all the great steakhouses in Dallas, this place was just OK. The wild game options were unique and a few in our party ordered them; buffalo and elk. My problem was with the wine list...I ordered FOUR different wines and EACH time, the waiter came back and said...'sorry, vintage change'. All 2011s...for those that read up on wine, it was a sub-par year for California. I finally gave up and ended up not liking what I settled for...I won't be back."

  • "Great appetizers and desserts. The steaks are average and overpriced. The smoked filet was good but I have had better in DFW."

  • "Everyone from the host to the servers to the management staff were all delightful. We went during restaurant week and had a blast of a time! Out of the lamb ribs, shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes and crap, and corn and potato chowder, the chowder was hands down the best. As for the entrees, the buffalo filet mignon was magnificent as it was not too gamy. To end off, the apple tart could feed four people by itself. The experience was wonderful and we will sure come back to try out the regular menu."

  • "Went during restaurant week. I like that they did not try to skimp you on your meal. It was excellent. I would definitely go again."

  • "A lovely restaurant with amazing service. We went for restaurant week and enjoyed the tasting menu. The steaks that were served were very delicious and tasted like they had a mild marinade on the exterior. Defiantly a great place to take someone if they're from out of town and want the "Texas" experience. Decor is rustic country with lots of recycled wood and cattle horns."

  • "Food was great. We went for restaurant week, and the volume of food for the special pricing was great! Very good value. Smoked filet was delicious. very unique and flavorful. Corn chowder was fantastic. Chocolate cake was VERY chocolaty, which I like, but my wife not as much. But she loved fried green tomatoes as well as Chicken Fried lobster (i thought it was a bit too breaded). Her apple tart was sweet, but not too sweet. Portion size was good (e.g. bigger than expected). Great restaurant. Definitely will go back."

  • "I work near the West End and had dined there for lunch and enjoyed an occasional beer here after. My wife and I stopped by Aug. 16th and dined on the Restaurant Week menu. Our reservation was 6:30 pm and we were seated immediately. Our server Danielle took time to insure that my wife with a food allergy was taken care of. YO Ranch was very good and we will be back. The manager stopped by an took a genuine interest to insure that our dining experience was perfect. Stephen even asked if the shrimp and grits was ok for my wife since he took time to insure it was made with a shrimp broth. We have a wonderful meal and will return soon. Thanks to everyone at YO Ranch."

  • "We ate at Y.O. ranch for restaurant week. The menu gave us good choices to pick from. We started with shrimp and grits and fried green tomato with crab appetizers. The green tomatoes were good, but the shrimp and grits were a bit off. My wife is from New Orleans and orders this often. Y.O.'s version was too "soupy" for my wife's taste. I got the smoked filet and my wife got the buffalo filet. The buffalo was wonderful but the smoked filet was almost too smoky. The deserts were only mediocre. When we left we met a man in the parking lot. My wife said something about eating at the Y.O.. It turns out it was the owner. When she told him about the shrimp and grits not being how she is used to, he agreed to make a change."

  • "We decided to go here for restaurant week. I had the salad, smoky filet and chocolate cake. I ordered a side of the gouda mac and cheese. The mac and cheese was incredible!! It had great flavor and lots of cheese. The salad had SOOO much garlic flavor in the dressing that is was hard to eat and this is coming from someone who loves garlic. The salad without the dressing was good...candied pecans, apple slices, cheese and greens. The dressing may have been good had you taken 70% of the garlic out. And finally, for a steak place, the steak was just ok. The steak was a little dry but luckily it had a little smoky sauce on top. For the price and with all the other great steak places out there, I wouldn't go back. :("

  • "Great restaurant week find. All items were off of the regular menu which was fantastic and unique - lamb rib appetizer - fantastic! Venison - Fantastic! Apple Tart with ice cream....you guessed it....Fantastic!"

  • "My wife and I made it out here for date night, and it was lovely! The food was very good (well, barring a problem with chicken-fried lobster turning out poorly), and the staff was wonderful. Thanks!"

  • "Very memorable, having known the legend of the Y.O Ranch the staff was well educated about the history and made a great impression on my guest. The food was perfectly prepared and presented. The Venison wraps and Bison filets were a great hit"

  • "I had the smoked filet and it was incredible. The flavor was great, and I could cut it with a fork. The chipotle cream sauce on top was also very good, although the steak was so great it did not need anything."

  • "This restaurant is a gem. Located in a great part of Dallas, YO RanchSteakhouse offers a rocking menu and wine list with excellent service topped by great laid back atmosphere. I took a large party there for dinner and we all didn't want to leave. In the future, any trip to Dallas will include a meal at YO."

  • "Steaks a bit hard for a medium steak, too much fat. Tom Collins was terrible."

  • "Very attentive service, server and manager made it a point to learn our names and used them throughout the night. Ordered the buffalo filet mignon (rare), which was perfectly cooked and super tender. Fiance had filet mignon, also tasty but not cooked medium rare as he requested; he still ate it. We had a late joiner but they never rushed us even if it ran after hours."

  • "The wild game appetizer is what I came for and the venison and boar sausage were fantastic. The quail was just okay. Steak was comparable to other top end Steakhouse, service was excellent."

  • "The buffalo filet was amazing--best steak I've ever had"

  • "While the taste of the food was good as always, the steaks arrived at the table and were almost room temperature, barely warm. This was the second time I have had this issue with steaks."

  • "Ordered the 8oz filet, medium. It came raw. They took it back and cooked it longer. So, the result was a filet that was unevenly cooked, still raw in some areas and well done in others. I have never seen a high end steak restaurant re-cook the same piece of meat after it's been cut through. Would not recommend this place at all. One note, they did take 1/2 off the price of the filet which was nice because I ate less than half, but they should have take the entire price off the bill."

  • "Very disappointed! We had five in our party. The waitress came to our table with TWO menus. "We have a party of 30 - let me see if I can get some menus from them". Service was very spotty - at times we didn't see her for over 30 minutes. Food was OK. I had the beef filet - it was dry and lacked flavor. (Outback's steaks are better!) The only bright spot - the macaroni & cheese! We will not return."

  • "We got the wild game platter, and it was amazing! The buffalo filet, quail and venison chop all had totally different flavors but worked perfectly together. The gouda mac and cheese and even just the house salad were very good, also. Our server was very knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. We will definitely be back!"

  • "There were four of us and we each ordered steaks....filet and sirloin of various weights. They were all cooked perfectly as ordered and were delicious. The entrée came with a few green beans, waffled carrots, and a purple potato; more than enough for a small appetite. The side dishes served two easily, maybe three, depending on the selection. Desserts were a large portion and good flavor. Our waiter was prompt and attentive. Priced a little high, but worth it."

  • "I've been here for dinner numerous times, so I thought I'd entertain my daughter and grandson for a mid-week lunch before we picked up a friend at Love Field. This place was rocking with casual downtown lunch goers and large groups. Our meal was a bit late, but the manager picked up our drink tab! Great place, excellent food -- all good local Texas cuisine -- and super attentive staff."

  • "The food and service were in a word...Awesome! Steaks cooked to perfection."

  • "For appetizers we had the fried oysters and the venison rollups. They were both very enjoyable. We split a wedge salad. It was a typical wedge salad, but the blue cheese dressing was exceptional. I used a roll to sop it all up. For our entrees we had the buffalo filet mignon and the elk tenderloin - medium rare on both. They were both very good, but I thought the elk was the better of the two. Like most good tenderloin, the elk tenderloin was melt-in-your-mouth tender with a delicious blackberry reduction sauce to complement it. The buffalo filet was good, but I'm not sure it lived up to all the hype. Maybe my expectations were too high. The portobello mushroom side was good, as was the apple tart that we had for dessert."

  • "The 8 oz filet was on par with Kirby's or Perry's, and the sides (especially the mac & cheese) were very good."

  • "The restaurant was a superb choice. The bar tender and the wait staff were very attentive and helpful with our choices. The menu was eclectic without being overwhelming. We were all able to try something we had not eaten before. The entrees were cooked to perfection. We had the Lamb, Buffalo filets and the chicken fried lobster. Everyone should try these if at the Y.O."

  • "After seeing YO Ranch in Texas hill country, I looked forward to eating here. Typical West End tourist trap that is over priced (steaks are north of $40 and sides extra), but not that good. Pieces were grisly, mine was undercooked to rare. Service was decent and decor is interesting, but to me its about the meat. Can do so much better in Dallas, but need to get out of the West End. I don't understand all the positive reviews. Must be tourists. "

  • "While on vacation in the DFW area, I wanted to experience the famous steakhouse scene. I chose Y.O. after reading several reviews on open table's website. The waiter was very informative about the different foods and up front about the prices. I would not call Y.O. kid friendly per se. The food was outstanding for the price, I was fully expecting to pay closer to $100/plate but our entire bill was under $100. I plan on making another visit the next time we are in the DFW area."
