Diner Reviews
  • "Great selection of the seafood menu, and food was really good. We had a seafood tower for two and it was great presentation and portion. Also great selection of wine list. Our server seems didn't had a good knowledge of wines but service was just okay as he never top up our glasses. Sunday 50% bottle of wine deal is great, and much apprreciated. Definately will go back."

  • "We were disappointed. The food was just ok, nothing outstanding. For the price you pay, there are much better seafood options in Vancouver."

  • "It may have just been a bad day, but everything seemed a bit off (even the oysters!). I've had very good meals here before, but this time it felt like we were eating in a hotel restaurant instead of in a good restaurant that happens to be in a hotel. That said, they were still extremely careful about a member of our party's food allergies. So, if you're entertaining someone with serious food allergies, I'd still recommend taking them there. Otherwise, I'll probably give it another shot at some point, but with all the amazing restaurants at this price I would have a hard time recommending it to others."

  • "After many days of trying to find a suitable place for an 8-person dinner to kick off a decade-type celebration with long-time friends, one of whom is a vegetarian, i found Yew. We had dinner there before catching our train, and it was a delight. They placed us in the "private dining room" which is actually their wine supply room that is a glass enclosure in the middle of the restaurant. It has a huge skylight above it with a great light fixture, and being in there made the occasion feel extra special. We all enjoyed our meals very much, and our server (Jenny? maybe) was very nice."

  • "Friendly, but noisy. Food was not well executed with poor starters and bland, overly complicated mains. Seating was quite uncomfortable and constant movement of staff and guests makes for a not very upscale experience. Ubiquitous TVs don't help. I suppose it's okay (though not especially comfortable and certainly not cosy) for drinks and snacks, but otherwise not worth the bother."

  • "My wife and I would highly recommend Yew. It has an exceptional selection of fish and seafood, prepared with praise worthy skill and presented with friendly and effecient service. Congratulations to chef, servers and the entire crew."

  • "The service was exceptional - We weren't pressured to leave as soon as the complete was finished. The menu was awsome. Would receommend the bistro to my friends."

  • "we have always had great experiences eating at restaurants in the four seasons. this one is an exception. the service was the worst we have ever had. it was non-existent. we would not chose to eat there again. there are tons of great restaurants in Vancouver. try somewhere else."

  • "My husband ordered their beef tenderloin entree which was supposed to come with yukon gold mash and grilled asparagus. He asked if he could exchange for fries instead of the mash. No problem said the waiter. When his entree finally came, after a 30 minute wait, it was a small medallion of tenderloin with a little tray of fries on a huge plate. We both looked at the plate in confusion as it was missing the asparagus. Really, after 30 minutes, you've forgotten that? Not much of an apology for such a high end restaurant that boasts excellent customer service. Disappointed indeed."

  • "Wonderful food. Staff very flexible in preparing food and providing vegetables to our liking. The halibut was very moist, cooked to perfection. Very fun and friendly atmosphere."

  • "Our server was not very attentive and did not attend to our or met our needs this time guess because it was father's day. We had ordered oysters to start and they never arrived, apparently our order got lost in the shuffle and our main had already arrived, therefore we were disappointed and told to cancel the oysters. We asked our eggs to be very runny and both our eggs, one was done perfectly and the other egg was over done, otherwise the meal was very good. we had to wait for quite some time for a refill on our coffee. Normally service here is excellent but as I said guess it was father's day but that should not have been an excuse for the service we received."

  • "As always amazing food and service! We were celebrating our anniversary with friends and were seated in the semi-private room surrounded by the glass wine display. Crazy how a little change in seating area can make that much difference in the ambiance. Thank you so much!"

  • "My husband's birthday was on a Sunday so where else would I choose to take him for dinner but Yew with their great food and half-price wine list on Sundays. Service was impeccable - our waiter reminded me of a professional waiter in France only more friendly and willing to converse. When I suggested we have vodka with our oysters, he recalled a cocktail (Mr. Myuagi) no longer on the list that was created to pair with oysters. The food was fantastic as well. My favourite of the meal: strawberry-rhubarb scallops. Mmmmmmm....."

  • "Up-scale casual dining in the Four Seasons Hotel. They prepare their fish to perfection. Their dishes are very well composed. Make sure you save room for some of their desserts - especially their house-made ice cream."

  • "I have eaten lunch in this restaurant for many years under several different names as the Four X Seasons has always worked hard to maintain high quality. The current reinvention is first class and the food delightful. "

  • "Can't say enough great things about this restaurant and our server Ashley. What started out as just dinner on a weds turned into a special occasion because of the exceptional food and service. Do not miss the halibut ceviche, shrimp scampi, or the lobster tacos! Ashley helped us navigate the wine list heavy with BC wines. We drank gros and petit manseng from France for the first time!!!"

  • "My wife and I just had got in to town and just were looking for a quick place to eat; this is not that place. But for a nice meal, this place was awesome. The BC spot prawns are a definite recommend; food was perfectly cooked. Also highly recommend the S'mores. "

  • "The service was outstanding. The BC shrimp were really nothing special, but there was a giant hullabaloo made about them. I had the 4 course special. The ceviche was pretty poor as it was shrimp in lemon juice basically with some crisps and one piece of grapefruit. The flavor was ok, but there was some guacamole on the bottom of the cup which eventually mixed with the lemon juice. Eventually the avacado/juice merged into this gross looking green lumpy soup. I just fished the shrimp out and tried to remove the green soup. The next course was pan seared shimp and gnocci, which was good but nothing overly remarkable. Wife's Steak was undercooked and nothing special. Cocktails were hit and miss. Don't get negroni. Lots of Ambiance, soso food."

  • "Returned to Yew for dinner w/ friends after Cirque Du Soleil show, we were a bit early, and they accomodated us even though we were 30 mins early. Nice! Service was prompt, lots of server staff and staff in t shirts filling up water, bread, removing empty plates. We left around 10:30 pm and it was still almost full. Will return again soon! "

  • "Excellent range of vegan choices. My guest was from Europe and did not understand the limited choice of fish. I suggest you outline your Oceanwise policy more openly so this is clearly understood by a foody from out of town. Lovely as always. Merci!"

  • "I have been awaiting a "Yew" experience for several years. I travel to Vancouver for work or pleasure about six times a year and always anticipate a great "foodie" night out. During three recent trips I attempted to dine at Yew without reservation success. This trip, with husband and best friend in tow, I made sure I secured a table well in advance. While the ambiance was energetic and the presentation of wine list intriguing, the food was less than memorable. My spot prawns were tasteless and tough, my husband's chicken was dry and and our friend's lobster difficult to find and taste plated under a massive amount of Bernaise. Chef Bell, I was anticipating greatness and alas will probably not return."

  • "We usually go to Yew for Sunday brunch but this time decided to go for dinner instead. This is the 3rd time at Yew for dinner and we were not disappointed. Our server, Ian, was great - - he was entertaining, very helpful with my dietary quirks, and with the wine selection. The food was sooooo good. We had the seafood platter as our main course as we'd each chosen a salad to start, it was excellent! We always recommend Yew to friends. In our minds it is definitely the best seafood restaurant in Vancouver."

  • "The usual buzzing Friday lunch.....in spite of the fact that there is no outdoor seating or view ( and it is now summer in Vancouver ) i couldn't get a table between 11.30-1.30pm .So we had an early-start lunch & the food was delicious ( tuna salad, lobster tacos, halibut burger & fish & chips......) and the ambiance just right and this remains my favourite business lunch location ( but it is also really good for a quick Bar/Appy supper if you are doing an evening shopping trip.....try the lobster milk buns !)"

  • "Menu advertised 'scallop cevice'... Scallops themselves were wonderful, but they came on... A bed of mayonaisse and covered in raw cabbage? Mains fantastic. Very nice oysters. Truffle Mayo fries out of this world. Don't order the scallops."

  • "Went for Mother's Day brunch-Buffet and a la carte offered. I have serious allergies and when I made YEW aware, the Guest Services Manager personally went out of her way to connect with me. The attention to guest concerns and professionalism shown, blew me away. Then the waiter, Geoff, was extremely knowledgable, friendly and accommodating-THANK YOU! The food was delicious and original…many options whether we chose buffet or a la carte-wine list phenomenal..I LOVE the individual iPad style wine/cocktail menus..so COOL! From the beautiful decor, modern details and personal, unique touches (the cake-pops as the centrepiece) to the phenomenal service..YEW impresses. Thank you to the GM, Murray as well, for your hospitality!"

  • "We went for the Mother's Day brunch and we all left disappointed. I've seen better brunch buffets at a Mexican resort. Not many items to choose from. Was definitely expecting a lot more for $90. Not a single croissant, scone etc. i also ordered the French toast which was bland and mushy. The blt eggs Benedict was mediocre. The pancakes were soggy and flavourless and the paella tasted like it came out of a can - disgusting. The service was very good but the selection and flavours were lacking. Not going back!"

  • "This was my second time at this restaurant. I think I preferred the dinner menu but that's neither here nor there. Both dinner and lunch are fabulous. Our server told us the restaurant was out of crab and we went specifically for the crab frittata. A little disappointed, I asked if she was SURE they were out, and she said she'd check. A few moments later, she returned to our table to inform us that they probably had enough to make one frittata. We were very happy. She also recommended a great wine to pair with our breakfast. Overall, a great experience. Will definitely go back."

  • "I was with my date, we enjoyed our experience at YEW. Only thing we were a little upset about was we felt little rushed thru our meal. We were told right away before ordering drinks the restaurant would have to have the table back at 7. Not sure if there is a time limit guests are allowed to stay in the restaurant. I would like to enjoy my conversation with my date and enjoy tasting a few appetizers and sides before dinner and dessert. My date and I both felt we didn't have the opportunity to fully enjoy our experience as from the start we were on a time limit. However I was asked at the end of the meal after settling the bill that we were welcome to sit in the lounge area, but it was too late by then as we had already made other plans. "

  • "At first I thought this place would be pretentious because it was so fancy, but from the moment we stepped in we received amazing service, even with two little wild kids. They even have a kids menu and provided colouring paper and crayons! And a double bonus...the food was EXCELLENT. We had 5 adults in our party and each one loved the meal they ordered. We will definitely be back here again when we return to Vancouver."

  • "This restaurant is huge-- and that's a good thing as the bar area is very lively but the noise level gets progressively lower as you proceed towards the back. We were seated in a booth and so conversation was not strained. The wines are listed on iPads that the waiter brings to the table. We weren't drinking that night as we were heading to the ballet and didn't want to fall asleep so I can't comment on the wines available. But the food was delicious. I had the paella--HUGE portion loaded with seafood. My daughter had a vegan pasta which she loved. We shared the chocolate mousse. A very nice touch was the assortment of chocolates and biscuits that came with our coffee. The service was exceptional. I would definitely return."

  • "Bad, bad, bad. All food was too salty; halibut was dry, very small piece for the price; crab was served with blue cheese of all things, so crab meat was lost in that combination. On top of everything, we waited one half an hour between the starter and main course. It was too expensive for what basically was a hotel bistro, not a high end restaurant. Ned Bell you should go back to culinary school!! "

  • "I eat vegan and this place hits the nail on the head for amazing food (for a veggie, vegan) and service! I felt 'guilty' for eating the Heirloom burger and 'fries' , but rest assured hippies (and hipsters), ingredients were organic, meat-free and I chose the dairy-free option (no cheese) and the burger tasted like heaven. Avacado Frites and Agedashi Tofu was delicious for the starters. Atmoshpere is very nice, just the right kind of 'busy' for a Saturday and the service was outstanding; very knowlegable staff. I'm not a big drinker but I had to try the Great Dane cocktail (sans Honey), and let me say I could have drank them all night! When I'm back in Vancouver, I will be back to this restaurant for dinner for sure!"
