A word from Yerba Buena Perry
Chef Partner Julian Medina and restaurant group YB & Co introduce Christopher Gilman and their newest Latin hot spot, YerbaBuena Perry. Located at One Perry Street in Manhattan's West Village. YerbaBuena Perry is a chic 55-seater that stirs up an era gone by-1950's Cuba. The restaurant features Julian Medina's reinterpreted Cocina Latina cuisine complemented by signature cocktails, many made with Yerba Buena, a latin mint.

YerbaBuena Perry transports guests from the West Village to an exclusive club in Havana with a feel that is retro yet chic and sophisticated. Designer Welly Lai outfitted the space with floral wall coverings in sea foam hues and leather banquettes, setting a mood of elegance. The restaurant's focal point is an expansive hand-carved bar with an Italian marble top.

Julian Medina's cusine evokes Peru, Cuba, Argentina, Colombia, México and Spain. Yerba Buena Perry's menu includes Ceviches, Tacos, and Parrillada, an Argentine mixed Grill.

  • "The food is terrific. Of the 4 items on the menu, each one was top-notch. However, the chef's talents get drowned out by the decibel level, so we will not be going back. A lively place is good. But when you combine loud music, lively bartending (shaking the drinks was an event unto itself, if you happened to notice it above the rest of the noise), extremely packed-in tables (like many NYC restaurants), and nothing on the floor/walls/ceiling to absorb the noise, it is painful to the ears and distracts from the experience. Customers at other tables were screaming just to converse with others in their party, which resulting in an evening of listening to others' conversations. Waitstaff practically had to yell. They should focus-on food!"

They also brought the wrong drinks/ drinks that were supposed to be the same but there was a clear day and night difference between them. I have been here before and it wasn't like this, just a disappointing brunch this weekend."

  • "I went here with my GF Saturday night. The food and drink are amazing, but it was just too dark inside the restaurant, especially in the back. The tables were candlelit, but it was not enough. We needed the iPhone flashlight to read the menu. Aside from that, I'd definitely recommend this place. Drinks are delicious, and I highly recommend the suckling pig."

Service was good, food ranged from really outstanding (the cool cocktails, my fish tacos starter, my sucking pig main) to mildly disappointing (my wife's sashimi-like cerviche starter and quinoa/kale salad main). Worth it if you don't mind the noise."

  • "I wanted to take my date out for her birthday & dinner and she suggested YBP being she had been there a few times and knowing my style and energy. She made the right choice, vibrant & energetice atmosphere. Everything from the crowed enjoying a Saturday night out to the bottle of wine we choose with the help of our knowledgeable server to the great choices of food was nerar perfect. I give YBP a 9 out of 10. Only drawback i had was trouble conversating because it was a high noise level between the crowd and the music but that's to be expected when you dine at a place like YBP it's hip & trendy. I will 100% be back, if you're looking for energy along with really good food and drink this is the place."

  • "Most essential: the food is excellent. It's kinda counter-intuitive, but the watermelon fries really are exceptional (so are the avocado and hearts-of-palm...). The evening we ate at Yerba Buena, there were four large-ish parties in the restaurant, and the noise level grew and grew (more people, more need to talk loud, then the more need to talk very loud, etc); and the service was a little distracted, but if anything too quick (but with that noise, lingering pleasantly wasn't really an option...). Still: good food..."

  • "Yerba Buena Perry has an exciting menu with playful riffs off traditional Latin American cuisines. The suckling pig was fantastic; the appetizers were generous. But even at a small two-top with an empty table next to us, it was nearly impossible to hold a conversation over the din. This is a place that could use a serious acoustic intervention: some sound bafflers on the ceiling would be a good start. If you are looking for innovative, excellent food, this is your place. If you come with a group bigger than two, don't expect to enjoy any meaningful conversation with your meal."

Yerba Buena was incredibly loud, as it was the weekend before Cinco de Mayo, and the place was completely packed. The pork belly, black cod and chicken were delicious and the cocktails are inventive enjoyable. The service was off and the staff seemed to be bickering with each other, so that was a bit off-putting, but all-in-all Yerba Buena is on my short list and I'll be back again, soon."

The starters (guacamole, croquetas) and desserts (churros) were actually better than some entrees (I was somewhat disappointed with the arepas which were 2 very small sandwiches with not much egg or chicken inside). Drink deal was worth it as our server was good about refilling glasses frequently. However, he was not very helpful or engaging and seemed to want to rush us out as quickly as possible. He actually put the check on the table without asking if we wanted dessert! We had to ask him for it and then he had to go back and print out another check."

Our party was not seated until half an hour after our reservation time, as the party before us would not leave and the owner/manager apologized profusely and sent us complimentary guacamole and champagne. the thought alone was enough to make up for the delay but the guacamole also happened to be delicious. the food was wondeful - highly recommend the trio of fries, brussel sprouts and arepas. but everything I sampled was amazing. The vibe is young, fun, trendy and energetic. I would definitely come here again and recommend it to friends. Thank you YB!"

  • "I am always surprised when restaurants put out bland and flavorless food out during restaurant week. Isn't the whole point to introduce new diners to your great food, well at Yerba Buena that was clearly not the case. My starter which was the shrimp empanadas with Machengo cheese was so bland and flavorless I felt I was eating at an old folks home. I love Machengo and I love shrimp, but I could taste neither in this doughy mess. My entree was the skirt steak which although it looked delicious was again lacking any seasoning, thank god for the herbs and spices on the plate, it help, but clearly they must realize that meat needs a little salt on it! The cheese flan was tasty and went really well with the pineapple, but that was it."

We asked for an estimated time and he said no idea. After 40 minutes we were able to pay but many others were stuck longer. No apologies or acknowledgement that this was a poor experience."

  • "We consider ourselves lucky to have this gem of a restaurant in our neighborhood. At Yerba Buena Berry- every dish has that unique touch that says the talented chef cares. This time we returned especially for the Peruvian standout dish called Parihuela, a seafood stew that is superb. The friendly and helpful wait staff, the inventive cocktails (half price before 7PM) and the intriguing Latino menu make this our favorite restaurant in Manhattan."
