A word from Yellow Door Bistro
Located on the lobby level of Hotel Arts with street access off 12th Avenue SW, Yellow Door Bistro's design marries classical elements and contemporizes them with some unexpected and almost whimsical surprises which become instantly evident upon entering the restaurant space.

Much like the décor, Executive Chef Duncan Ly will prepare bistro-inspired dishes with a reverence for classic ingredients but served up with a contemporary twist. Our food will cater to the tastes of our hotel patrons as well as our local clientele offering an array of options while holding the highest standard of food with a perfect blend of bistro-inspired options. Yellow Door features an enomatic wine program with 1oz, 3oz and 5oz pours of diverse wines as well as a classic cocktail menu.

Yellow Door Bistro will ensure patrons receive friendly, personality-driven service executed with attentiveness and professionalism. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

  • "A party of adults and two kids age 5 and 10 dined at the Yellow Door on July 24th to celebrate my son's 10th Birthday. It was a great experience. The table setting and chair for my son were fit for a king. The service was extraordinary complete with a special desert platter being delivered on behalf of Master Chef Canada Pastry Chef at Yellow Door Karine Moulin. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone seeking a great dining experience."

  • "Truly one of the best dining experiences my wife and I have ever had and we have had many. The Yellow Door Bistro doesn't have grand views of oceans or mountains, but that doesn,t matter given the stylish surroundings and exceptional food; all at reasonable rates, for downtown. Our server was in sync with us all night with great descriptions of the offerings on hand and good choices for wine pairings. One of our dining partners required gluten free foods and this proved to be no problem whatsoever, it was seamless. Short ribs, lamb, duck, rabbit and foie gras, exceptional chocolate heaven desert, all artfully presented and impeccably cooked. Great experience, we will return soon."

  • "I was there on the weekend for Sunday with some girlfriends and it was an overall good experience. I recommend the duck confit hash or the banana chocolate pancakes... both were DELICIOUS. We ended up sharing all our dishes because we wanted a bite of everything! The buffet looked great as well, but it was a bit too much food that early in the am. Our waiter, Heith, was quarky and very nice. The decor was also very modern, but it was casual enough to go with just jeans and a t-shirt."

  • "We were celebrating my wifes birthday. We were served by a friendly server called Adrian who was friendly, engaging and knowledgeable. The food was great, my wife had the ribeye steak which was served medium, with what looked like potatoe lasagna and had a I had the lamb in a broth. Despite bringing the cake, I dropped the cake late, a great experience. The server gave us a complimentary glass of champagne to make up. Great restaurant with great prices. The friendly girl at the front is worth mentioning as well. Great job to the manager, and thank you for bringing out the birthday cake with lit candles."

  • "We did the 5 course chefs tasting and wine pairing. Our waitress was excellent and knowledgeable about all the food. We found it to be beautifully presented but with only average flavor. I would go back and have a ala carte experience next time as I really wanted the lamb and the halibut."

  • "We went to the Yellow Door Bistro because it is convenient to walk from work and we had never been there before. The French Onion Soup had come highly recommended by a co-worker. I took a client there for a working lunch and because it was relatively quiet (not many patrons which surprised me) we were able to have a good chat. I had the french onion soup and a full salad (should have had the half order but was not sure of the size). Both were excellent. My client had the hanger steak and fries which she raved about. Our server, Heath was very attentive, but not smothering. A very nice dining experience."

  • "Hi - was very disappointed with the Halibut - The waiter recommended it and it was flavourless. Chicken entre was dry. Not sure why they stuck our group of 5 where they did. It became very inconvenient for the person at the end of the table to always move his chair when the waiter went to wait on the table beside us!!! There was lots of other spots open in the restaurant and this left us perplexed. Best part was the appetizer of the double fried fries. Don't think we will be back - Calgary has lots of other spots that are a better fit for foodies/"

  • "It was a special occasion and Yellow Door made it incredibly special! Even had a visit from one of the fantastic Chefs come out! Can't recommend more highly the dishes we sampled. The Beef Tenderloin Tartare was exquisite as was the Dungeness Crab Salad (would definitely have the salad for lunch). We both opted for the Grilled Trout - absolutely perfect! The wine suggested was paired perfectly. Dessert of truffles and sorbet was a wonderful way to end the meal. So much more on the menu that we'll come back for!"

  • "The food was of very good quality, when it finally arrived. The taste profile of the dishes was on point, however the arrival of the food was extremely slow. It felt like we were in Paris again, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your viewpoint. We arrived at 8:15pm and left at 11:05pm, like in Paris we had to ask for the bill and we weren't by any means rushed out or rushed along our courses. The food was small and incredibly expensive (like in Paris), and had great and unique flavour (like in Paris). In the end, I probably wouldn't go back because, while the food was delicious, I didn't feel we got a great value for our money-even by European standards."

The thing I appreciated most about the evening was the spectacular service. The staff was kind and very capable. We were well taken care of without the feeling or being harassed. Food was also a great exerience. I highly suggest getting the chef's choice. It is a nice reflection of the bistro itself and gives you the chance to experience something new and exciting. I would definately recommend the yellow door bistro to anyone looking to try something new and exciting."

  • "After reviewing the recommendations that I had read in Swerve, I was a little disappointed in my meal. My husband and I had the hashbowls with duck comfit. Not impressed. I could have had leftover potatoes at home. As for the duck? I found only strings of meat. More potatoes than duck. Awesome dessert, though and fantastic juice."

While the ambiance of the restaurant is great the food selection was very limited and everything which was supposed to be hot was cold. The service was mediocre as the poor waitress was so over extended due to not enough staff. A cold meal can ruin a really good occasion."

  • "service was slow - waited at the front for five minutes for the hostess to come. When our waiter finally showed up 10 minutes after being seated, there was hello, no welcome, his first question was, have you had a chance to look at the menu? We didn't even have a drink menu (note it is on an ipad and most likely there isn't enough to go around). Had the steak tartare to start and it was very good although the seasoning on the chips detracted somewhat. I ordered the seared halibut, the waiter advised it would be medium to medium rare - which I was fine with. When it arrived unfortunately the vegetables were very underdone and the fish very overdone - to the point it wasn't enjoyable."

The cheese fondue is just amazing the best I have ever had, the trout and duck are out of this world. Your food is amazing yet your prices are reasonable which makes me love your restaurant more, maybe other top establishments should take note!!   • "I'm not sure who they had in mind when they designed the seating, but for middle aged adults, the children's play set chairs are not comfortable! The food quality was good, although the appetizers were a tad overpriced for what you got (we ordered the truffle perogies and the scallops to start). Our entrees were delicious (trout bolognese and duck breast) and made up for the underwhelming appetizers. The service was very accommodating and we appreciated the little extras that the restaurant staff did for us. "

  • "My wife and I ate dinner at the Yellow Door Bistro on a Tuesday evening. One of the biggest downsides to this restaurant is the size. It is so big that there needs to be 30+ people to create any ambiance in the room. The food was ok and I would have a better rating had it not been for the price point. The service was also ok. We were in and out in under 45 minutes. The server asked us if we would like our food to come out now or until we were done our appetizers. I was not keen on having my $30 dish sitting under a heat lamp for 15 minutes. The experience was very rushed. I really enjoyed the Old Fashioned that the bartender mixed up. And my wife also really liked the French 75 she ordered. The drinks may have been the best part for us"

  • "I had the best experience at Yellow Door Bistro! The hostess was fabulous and very cute! (Cutest baby bump!) The server was so friendly and the buffet was impressive. The quality of the food and the variety was outstanding. I was with my boyfriend who was visiting from out of town, and his experience made him want to move here! It was fabulous - we were seated near a window and it was a beautiful day. The restaurant is impeccably designed and the ambiance is beautiful! I would recommend the restaurant to ANYONE, especially for the brunch and anyone looking for a great date idea! :)"

  • "Seven of us had Sunday Bunch on a long weekend. Staffs very friend and great service. However, couldn't handle lots of customers (full house ). For busy day, they should serve the tables by sessions not by tables . The waiters n waitress were running around and the customers couldn't find their waiter or waitress. Buffet table so small and refill slow. We will be back there but not for bunch buffet. "

Unfortunately, we were not of the crowd but I was still a bit disappointed that is was nearly 7 pm before we received our entrees. The food was good but would have liked a bit faster service from the kitchen. "

  • "Food was just average, verging on below average. Service was extremely slow (1 hr 45 mins from when we walked in the door to when we got our main course). Service was average to poor, and the restaurant was very very loud. I had the venison which was well prepared, but the potatoes were undercooked and cold, and the other vegetables salty and unappetizing. Desert was well as fairly average--the frozen lemon souffle was not very lemony at all. I would not good again. "
