Diner Reviews
  • "The food and wines were excellent. We shared a selection of appetizers and one main dish, including grilled octopus, meatballs in yogurt sauce, baked haloumi cheese, a Greek salad and the linguine. For desserts we shared baklava and another filo pastry filled with custard. We chose to sit in the garden because it's heated and it bit quieter. Our waiter was charming and helpful and our water glasses were refilled without our having to ask. Yefsi is recommended by Michelin, as well as Zagat, and that's always a good sign. We will definitely go back."

  • "My friend and I loved it and will definitely come back. We each had swordfish which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The zucchini chips were addictive. The service was excellent as well."

  • "We have been here a few times in the last two weeks and Gregori hasn't been here. We miss his welcoming ways. The food as always is just delicious. Everything on the menu is prepared with care. But the experience isn't as good without Gregori at the door."

  • "We had an incredible meal. The appetizers were so great. My tsipura was perfectly prepared. Finished off with some warm baklava and Greek yogurt with sour cherries. What a great meal!!"

  • "I have been to Yefsi several times and for the first time was disappointed in the food. My husband's fish was good, but my moussaka was tasteless. the béchamel was like wallpaper paste. It was as if they had completely forgotten to put any seasonings in it"

  • "The food here is as stated, elegant Greek. They are the recipes from our mothers and presented in a tasteful sophisticated fashion. The grilled octopus was the best I'd ever had, even the tomatoes in the salad were as fresh as in Greece."

  • "The Greek salad was very fresh and the feta eggplant melt was great. Chicken kabob and rice was very good as was the mussels orzo feta dish. Good service. Was a bit loud but has a nice lively feel"

  • "Almost every time i have gone to Yefsi and it has neen many times already we have made o ur meal almost entirely of their out- of this-world mezze(appetizers). I love the zucchini croquettes, theGreek sausage, the cod and shrimp dish and the crabcakes especially . Go ! You won' t be disappointed..."

  • "Best Greek food I have ever had. This Chef owner definitely raises the bar of Greek cuisine. I guess that's why the Whitehouse sought him out to come and cook for a Presidential event. This time I had the zucchini crouquttes and the branzino. Both were exquisite! Last time I tried mainly appetizers and each one was outstanding. Love the lemon potatoes. There was a birthday party going on so it was a bit noisy but not a problem. Can't wait to go back."

  • "I have been eating at Greek reasturants in NYC since Greek kuisine was introduced in the early 90's. Yefsi is in my opinion the best over all representation . I have tried almost everything in the menu, not one dish is not perfect. Not just grilled fish and zuccini as some expencive know joints Service is perfect, Decor, classy not overdone. If you never had Greek food and this is your first place to go, you will never like another one."

  • "We popped in after work for drinks and dinner. The meze/ small plates are the things to go for, not so much the entrees. Loved the zucchini and especially the calamari! We'll be back!"

  • "Service was terrible from the moment I stepped in--not even a greeting or a smile. It continued through the service where we had to get the attention of the waiter and the manager more than once. The waiter seemed annoyed we were there, saying "I can't hear you" without really trying to hear by getting closer to our table. The restaurant tables were too crowded together. Food was mediocre for the price. Will never go back though I live two blocks away."

  • "Delicious small plates of authentic Greek food, always fresh, well prepared, great for sharing with a friend. Gracious and friendly staff, comfortable room and terrific vibe."

  • "This is a hidden gem on the Upper East Side. Every bit as good as Milos and Avra, but more reasonably priced. The bartender, Dawn, is nearly on par with the mixologists at Employees Only. She makes an outstanding martini--among the best I've had in the city. The venue is small so a reservation in advance will avoid waiting until 9:30 to sit. We prefer to come a little early and have a cocktail and appetizer with Dawn at the bar. One visit and you will be hooked for life."

  • "We were a bit disappointed with the relatively limited prix fixe, since our favorite way to eat here is with small plates, but the manager was accommodating and allowed us to substitute an extra app for our desserts. Everything delicious as always, even our entrees which we generally avoid. Baby lamb chops were perfectly done and accompanying roasted potatoes delicious. We feel very fortunate to have a place of this caliber across the street!"

  • "i had a greek salad and roasted branzino. the salad had a little too much dressing andthe fish was delicious. The pita and dip were nice touch. my side dish was rice and spinach which was so good it had to have unhealthy things in it. the bartender (woman) was very knowledgeable about wines and patient during selection. Def go again."

  • "The food was solid, but not great. The salad was fresh and delicious and the salmon was perfectly cooked and very tasty. The chicken was mediocre and the orzo with seafood had a lot of orzo and not that much seafood. I think certain dishes are well prepared and others are just average. I will try it again, however as it is nice to have a good restaurant in the neighborhood."

  • "Food was delicious. We went with a few couples, and enjoyed appetizers (octopus salad was good -- even though I'm not usually an octopus person) and a variety of entrees: generous portion of lamb shank was butter-soft, chicken looked good, and grilled shrimp were tasty. Desserts were a bit skimpy; I'd skip them next time. Overall: great spot, as evidenced by the full crowd at 8:30 dinner time."

  • "We've been there for dinner a few times with different friends, as well as brunch on Sundays It's always wonderful, delicious, variable menu, and service is very nice. It's been a great new addition for our dining pleasures"

  • "We've eaten at YEFSI before and each time have had the same issue. Waitperson takes the orders for our party of 5 (a couple of appetizers, salads and entrees) without writing anything down. It seems so impressive! We wait and soon salads start coming out. Then entrees start to appear. Each time we've visited, she's forgotten our appetizers. It's a busy place. Are they trying to turn the table faster by not allowing us to chat over a couple of shared appetizers? Or, is it just forgetfulness? Luckily, we're not billed for them! But, some day it might be nice to be able to try their grilled octopus and eggplant and zucchini chips! Otherwise, food is very good and restaurant enjoyable."

  • "If you have been to Milos, Avra or Pylos, you would have a proper benchmark to compare this place to. And there is absolutely no way this place stands up to the proper Greek peers. Appetizers were just ok, nothing special. Pretty standard Med/Greek offerings. Main courses were atrocious (we ordered kebab, whole fish and a salmon fillet)- poorly prepared with none of that sizzle or deliciousness you would expect from a Greek kitchen. Awful. The desserts were really delicious, but no idea if they were made on-site brought in from an outside bakery. The wine list was pathetic - they were sold out of everything that was remotely decent in taste, and the rookie server attempted to sell low quality "alternatives". Bottom line - just bad. Avoid."

  • "The meze is the way to go at this warm and welcoming neighborhood Greek. The grilled octopus is truly outstanding - perfect texture and charred grill flavor. Zucchini croquettes delicious. Have had less consistent luck with the entrees. Some interesting Greek wine choices and they make a great martini. Recommended."

  • "We went to Yefsi after going to the Whitney and didn't have any particular place in mind. Checked my smartphone and found Yefsi, which turned out to be a warm and friendly place to have a Sunday evening dinner. The food and energy was so enjoyable, if we lived in the neighborhood, I would keep it as our Best Kept Secret. The grilled Octopus and mussels were wonderful appetizers and set the tone for the rest of the dinner. It was wonderful!"

  • "The food was excellent. The flavors captured in each app and main course were outstanding. We were 6 people and we ordered 5 apps and 5 main courses and shared everything. More than enough food."

  • "On a cold winter night we "discovered" this excellent Greek place through enthusiastic reviews. They seated us next to a toasty radiator at the widow where the noise from the bar was hardly noticeable. Walk-ins were waiting for tables, but they honored our 8 PM reservation immediately. The menu is extensive with choices of familiar and not-so-familiar dishes. We shared 3 appetizers: a fresh salad with chunks of feta, grilled octopus, and an unusual dish with deep fried cod. I chose roast chicken. It was delicious--a well-seasoned, tender, young, organic chicken The waiter arrived with a plate of "samples" of Greek dessert with our coffee--on the house-- a lovely, hospitable, and unexpected touch! We definitely plan to return."
