Diner Reviews
  • "Every time we have eaten at college Inn it has been great. They have a garden where they grow their own fresh ingredients. I had the lamb shank and it was fabulous. I highly recommend it."

  • "I was not expecting the experience I had here! I started with the BBQ Shrimp, and I was impressed. The shrimp were cooked well, the bread was great, and the sauce would make a shoe taste good. It was creamy and Worcestershirey and delicious. I ordered a mint julip and although it wasn't served in the traditional julip cup it was a damn fine drink. It wasn't too sweet or watered down, you could actually tast the bourbon. I could've been satisfied at this point and recommended the restaurant but I ordered the special, the stuffed soft shell crab. It is one of the best things I have ever eaten. The shrimp and grits was the best version I have ever had. I absolutely loved my meal and will be back soon!"

  • "College Inn has become very consistent. The food is always good. Great bar, salads with lots of fresh vegetables, and specials that are always good. Foie gras is excellent appetizer. Veal was also very good as was the lamb. We really enjoyed the fig dessert. This is a small place that gets crowded so make a reservation."

  • "You cant go wrong here the food and service is GREAT"

  • "The food was okay, and felt overpriced for the portion. My husband had a 28.00 rib entree that tasted like roast which consisted mainly of mashed potatoes and veggies. Another member of our party had shrimp and grits that came in a small cereal size bowl. This is a place you need to know what to order. The atmosphere is fun, though."

  • "We had a dinner meeting scheduled but had forgotten to make a reservation somewhere. The day before the event I was able to get a table for 10 without any problems, and they have a great loft room available to accommodate. Very happy with the way it all went. Thanks for great service on short notice!"

  • "I remember the Ye Olde College Inn of a while back, gumbo, sandwiches, a casual eatery open for lunch. What a difference a few years and a new owner makes. I couldn't believe when we walked in the door how pretty it is, the food was amazing! I had lamb shank with gravy and roasted gouda grits, my husband the braised short ribs. Everything was fresh, with a simple presentation. We will be back and fyi, make reservations so you don't wait!"

  • "I've always liked College Inn, even in its prior incarnation in the old building. There's a charm that it has that a lot of other places try to achieve, but fall short. Maybe its the family-restaurant vibe, maybe its that you either see someone there you know, or maybe its that everyone there is so nice. It is one of the few places where I've found it possible (and permissible) to chat with the table next door and leave having made new friends. Who knows. Anyway, the food has continually progressed since they've opened the new restaurant post-K, and our most recent was as good as any we could remember. My wife and I split the Oyster-Bacon-Havarti and Fried Green Tomato and Shrimp Remoulade poboys and had a few drinks. It was great."

  • "What a great menu with a neighborhood feel! The menu is eclectic and the food is of a high quality. The vegetables from the neighborhood garden add to the quality of the food!"

  • "We just love Ye Olde College Inn! Truly a very nice dining experience. Our server was terrific and the food was outstanding! I am a former restaurant manager for local casual fine dining restaurants and a party planner and I could not find a single thing to complain about. We had an out of town guest that is a food scientist and he loved it! Truly a favorite place of ours!"

  • "Brought my high school grad and his girlfriend along with family members to celebrate his graduation. We had ages 17 to 92 and everyone enjoyed themselves. Service was excellent and food arrived quickly. When a mistake was made for something I special ordered, it was swiftly resolved. Professional, nouvelle and old school combined. Rock'n'bowl next door. Not cheap, but you get what you pay for. Love the fact that eatery has its own garden, chickens across the street. Food tastes freshly made. Care goes into presentation. Waitress was lovely, tireless young worker."

  • "Fantastic staff, incredible food. Beer selection is disappointing but New Orleans just isn't a hotbed of craft brewing...yet. Go figure?"

  • "Terrific service, exceptional food, and pleasant surroundings…..The College Inn delivers all of these. Plus, it's great to find such a restaurant with free parking, and plenty of it. We've been dining here for years and plan to continue doing so for many more, it's great to have the opportunity to make reservations now!!!"

  • "Delicious, they must cook them in heavy cream and then add the Gouda, they were excellent. The shrimp came piled on top in a shallow bowl, whole and not shelled and it was a big question how to eat them, so we just picked them up as there was no plate to cut them on. But who cares? I didn't see any food police. You can see there are many repeat customer locals mostly with families of all ages. Nice busy, bustling place. "

  • "This truly is a hidden gem and we locals hope to keep it that way. The crowd is vibrant. The servers are engaging. The food is outstanding from upscale to comfort dishes. A recent friend from out of town wanted to know if this chef was getting recognition, and my reply was, "I hope not." We want to keep the chef for ourselves."

  • "I like this place because it is consistent, with very good service. Also, the kitchen is open till 11 which is a rarity around here. New menu this trip emphasizing garden-to-table, and large garden belonging to the restaurant is right across the street. "

  • "Even on Jazzfest weekend, they got us seated slightly ahead of our reservation. Bartender provided an excellent Sazerac during the wait. Dinner was perfectly prepared and served, with the waiter attentive but not hovering, just as we like. We try to visit this restaurant every visit to New Orleans because the food is always well thought out, unpretentious, but excellent and fresh ingredients. And they make you welcome whether you are gritty from the festival or well dressed. "

  • "Great place to go if you're planning to go to the Rock 'n Bowl for dancing/entertainment. It's right next door, owned by the same folks, and if you ask at the restaurant, they'll give you a voucher for five bucks off the cover charge. Thursday nights are Zydeco music/dancing."

  • "Found this restaurant when looking for best eats in the NO. We were seated immediately and greeted by a waiter. Service was great and the food was delicious. I had seafood gumbo as an app and ordered the special of the day which was a stripped fish with shrimp over succotash. I was disappointed when the dish came out to find the succotash was a cream base. I had to send it back and order something else. Both the waiter and the chef came back to ensure I was pleased with my second choice (lamb with grits) which I was. Only downfall, we took a cab (we are visitors from DC) and it took 45 min to get one back to the hotel. I asked the host to call twice but nothing and cabs were not stopping for us outside."
