Diner Reviews
  • "Went here for my birthday dinner- food was exceptional as always- disappointed by really fair service- water not refilled in my glass, had to ask for bread. Not what I expect from this restaurant having dined here many times in the past. Luckily, the food remains outstanding- perhaps additional wait staff is needed"

  • "Yankee Pier has a new house manager, Michael, who is a seasoned pro and very attentive and accommodating. Book reservation thru Open Table to be safe. Went on a Saturday night and it was jammed. Celebrating a friend's birthday ("comp" dessert) with a party of 3. Service staff were all good, although stretched due to the customers dining between 7-9. We shared the enormous Yankee Pier salad (a must) and had Linguini and Clams (fresh and so tasty), Maine Lobster Roll, and Bay Shrimp Roll. The latter two come on to-die-for fresh baked, toasted rolls, were succulent, fresh and overflowing. Very generous portions on all dishes. Kettle chips are fresh too! Don't miss having the Lemon Meringue Pie and Butterscotch Pudding for dessert."

  • "Firstly, even at 7pm, many listings were already off the menu, even on a Saturday. The linguini and clams—highly overpriced, was a smidgeon of a decent portion. Simply not worth the money..."

  • "This was our second dinner with Yankee Pier Larkspur; once again it was excellent. We seek out sustainably-raised fish/seafood from the Monterrey Bay Seafood Watch list. They prepare it well here. Side dishes are also creative and delicious. Reasonably priced. We will return often."

  • "Ambiance is like an east coast seashore diner. Service was terrific; food was very good as well."

  • "The Yankee Pier is consistently delicious. The house-made potato chips are wonderful, as is the chowder and butterscotch pudding. American food at its best."

  • "Fabulous food, expertly served. Pleasant outside dining on a lovely warm night"

  • "Most disappointing! Ordered Catfish, which was the smallest piece of fish I've ever seen for $18 and, with french fries being soggy made wish I went a fast food place. Lark Creek and One Market usually provide a good meal, NOT here."

  • "Can't beat for fish and chips, clam chowder, lobster roll. Special heirloom gazpacho was one of the best I have ever had. Sat outside with our pup. Street parking in busy downtown Larkspur. We are lucky to be within walking distance. Looking forward to their next half off wine."

  • "For a restaurant preparing primarily fish the entree was very grossly undercooked.......totally amazed this could happen after multiple visits. This is not only unpalatable it presents a potential health problem in improperly cooked food."

  • "Primarily a seafood restaurant. Food was fresh, presented in a professional manner, good sized portions. Server was available for any of our needs, assistant server made dinner go very smoothly, Atmosphere was great, parking in the rear of the restaurant was easily had. We enjoyed each entree, from appetizer to main course as well as the desserts! Yummy place to be!"

  • "The hardest part is not ordering stuff you've already had because it was so good. Fish tacos are especially nice! See if you can get a table on the back deck - it's cozy and quiet."

  • "The lobster roll, New England style, was to die for! The bun was nicely grilled, and the generous amount of lobster was chilled with celery and an appropriate amount of mayo. The slaw was crunchy and the fries tasted like home fried although I'm not sure whether they were or not. One of the best lobster rolls in the Bay Area."

  • "Always a great experience. Excellent food, excellent wait staff!"

  • "Took my dad for his birthday lunch and yankee pier hit the spot. My dad had the lobster roll and I had the salmon burger and both were delicious. Thank you!"

  • "At out on the back deck which is just sublime when the weather is good (as it usually is), food was quite good and the manager made us feel quite welcome but the other service left something to be desired. Our order got messed up in several ways (at first forgotten then delivered incorrectly) but what did come was good. The atmosphere was great among the diners leading to nice interchanges between the tables - overall a thumbs up and I will certainly return again."

  • "This restaurant always does a great lobster roll, and many other delicious seafood items - I love it! I like to sit on the back deck - a little quieter out there and very casual. This is one of my favorite spots in Marin."

  • "We have been about five times in a few years. In general the food is well prepared although the menu is not that extensive. We sat outside on the back deck for the first time and were virtually alone which made the meal much calmer than it can be in the interior that often includes a lot of families with younger children. This was half priced wine month so was a terrific deal. We had the weeknight specials with salads, terrific fish tacos and fish & chips and service was really nice. Will absolutely return."

  • "Always a great dining experience, it was half price wine month so that was great. Enjoyed ourselves, sat outside and brought the dog."

  • "One of us had fish and chips, one had catfish. Both good. They had 1/2 off bottles of wine for the month July so that was nice. Parking was easy since Larkcreek Tavern is closed until October."

  • "Happened on a lovely summer's day, so we sat outside, looking at tall trees birds. We at that earlier hour were the only customers, so fullly attentive service from staff. Their food is absolutely delicious (& sustainable). Will return anytime we can."

  • "We like Yankee Pier, and go there often. This time, though, service really fell short. Oysters were delivered with no fork, but two spoons. Two of the entrees were delivered cold. When mine came back heated, it was missing one of the two ordered side dishes. The server poured everyone's wine— except mine. There was more, but those were the specifics that I remember. I think our asking for an outside table after an inside table had been set for us (not that we had asked for an inside table) put the servers off their rhythm. At least some of the above might be explained by their forgetting that we were out there on that patio."

  • "We had a great meal and great service. We sat on the back deck on a nice evening. Everything was great except for the view! Next time, we'll probably sit inside!"

  • "Yankee Pier is our absolute favorite sea food restaurant in Marin County, and has been since the day it opened. There is nothing comparable on this side of The Bay, and we've found nothing better in S.F. or Oakland.. The food and service are always top-notch, and their mouth-watering house specials are unique and always worth trying. Never disappointing."

  • "The restaurant has a neighborhood feel. It is not fancy but is welcoming. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food selection was not great but the rock fish dish was tasty and nicely prepared. The evening was delightfully warm, so eating outdoors was very pleasant. The restaurant is kid-friendly and provides a sand box where the children played and made new friends. My husband both agreed that we would return particularly when the weather allows outside dining."

  • "The clam chowder is some of the best I've had on the West Coast. Our server was very conscientious but not obsequious. The best perk? It's a dog friendly restaurant!"

  • "the chowder here used to be superb. lots of clams, nice broth, no starch etc. but last nights was pitiful. almost no flavor, very as in VERY few clams, and watery. Hopefully this is not a new chef in the galley or he/she needs to go back to the Ogden original recipe. Additionally, the prices have soared over the past year. I realize seafood is costly but a clam strip dinner with fries for over $20 is absurd! Order the lobster roll for a better deal. For the bay area Sams Chowder House can't be beat. Better than many New England spots. Here's hoping Yankee Pier is not sliding downwards!!!"

  • "Consistently among the best seafood places in Marin IMHO. Lunch menu is varied, interesting, and everything is freshly made and delicious. Their burger was enormous and dripping with its own juices of a wonderful bun, with some of the best fries around. The fried shrimp sandwich I had on the daily special ($17) included a full, entree-size portion of their signature Yankee Salad, which two people could easily share. Lobster roll is to die for! Service is always top-notch and staff, including manager, aim to please. Casual dining for adults and/or families alike in a great setting. I'm surprised it's not more crowded, as the quality and quantity of food is hard to beat in Marin. Give it a try!"

  • "Yankee Pier is a good restaurant and so consistent. It is a go to place for our family because of the great service and consistent quality of food. I would recommend it to anyone!"

  • "We keep going to Yankee Pier because it is reliably good and there is always something fresh, fun, and satisfying on the menu that meets everyone's requirements. The fresh oysters can't be beat, and my favorite side is the kale, while my husband loves the clams. But, the sustainable fresh fish is always changing and offers great alternatives. Service is consistently tops. "

  • "Grandson's 19th birthday and he wanted lobster roll. How lucky to have the perfect place within walking distance. 5 for lunch. lobster rolls, fish and chips, Po Boy sandwich and I had the brunch grits and poached eggs. Grits needed a bit more flavor, but otherwise good with a healthy splash of hot sauce. Cheesecake and sorbet made it a yummty time. Back patio is quiet, and away from the playful kiddies on the front patio. We miss the Monday night " all you can eat fish and chips", but look forward to July 1/2 wine. "

  • "The fish (and all the foods) are sourced, prepared and served with great care and attention to give diners the best possible experience. On my last trip, I had a grilled rockfish, served with a spicy sauce, perfectly grilled asparagus and mashed potatoes. The rockfish was caught off nearby San Pedro and tasted fresh and wonderful. The Yankee salad we ordered as an appetizer is always a hit (and is big enough for two). Go back frequently to try as much of the menu as you can, and make sure to order the fish tacos."

  • "The food was fresh and well prepared. It delivered what it promises: good food at modest cost. The emphasis on fried food, however, makes the place a bit less tempting for frequent dining. "

  • "Their raw oysters are amazing-tasted like they had just been taken out of the ocean before being opened and served to us. Delicious treat!"

  • "Everytime we dine at Yankee Pier Larkspur we have an awesome experience. The food is top notch, the ambience is casual and friendly, and the service is outstanding. Chris the manager runs a good ship and Alex the Chef creates some amazing dishes. We highly recommend taking the drive to Yankee Pier Larkspur not matter where you are...you'll find that it is totally worth it. :-)"

  • "Have eaten here 3x in the past month. First two times were quite good, but my most recent meal left me very disappointed. Service was uncharacteristically lackluster and disinterested, they got the order wrong (though corrected it quickly), and the fish (Chili Pepper Rockfish) I had was really not very good - it seemed to be underdone and greasy, and was fairly unpleasant to eat. Worse, no one came around to ask me how it was either. I'll probably be back (based on other positive experiences I've had here), but this was a real disappointment. If this had been my 1st visit to Yankee Pier it would probably have been my last. "
