A word from Yankee Pier Lafayette
Yankee Pier, a bustling and vibrant seafood house, offers chef Michael Dunn's ocean-fresh seafood "fresh from coast to coast". Local seafood, sourced in accord with the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch program, which promotes sustainable practices that are healthy for ocean wildlife and the environment, is presented with a nod toward New England. Live Maine lobsters, fresh-shucked oysters, an array of grilled fresh fish, and beer-battered full belly clams are some of the offerings, along with local produce, house-made desserts, a selection of all-American wines and a full bar.Continued

  • "Had a lovely lunch while visiting the East Bay. Service was excellent and we were not rushed...kudos to Raymond! Shared some perfect Kumamotos, Fanny Bay & Kusshi oysters & then I had the rock fish while by best bud had the petrale sole. Fish was not overcooked which is the mark of a great seafood spot IMO. Said we wouldn't have any desert but then spied lemon meringue pie on the menu and of course we caved in! Yum! Hated to leave later that day to return home to the dusty, windy hot desert. Oh how I wished I lived here again--maybe one day!"

  • "The oysters are always soooo good and fresh- on this night the Atlantic Marin Oysters were tremendous! After the oyster starter, my oven roasted sole was delicious!"

  • "I usually get the fish 'n chips and they're always great. Very helpful and attentive staff as well."

  • "The menu looks nice and the fish selection is good and tasty. However, we felt the place has very poor ambience - seating, lighting, decor, etc, just didn't work for us - especially when the bill comes to $140. The service was average - and not particularly attentive, for example, we had to ask for silverware and drinks even though it wasn't busy. It may have been down to table location (out of sight?). The manager did stop by to ask if the food was good - before we started - we had to ask him for silverware...."

  • "This is our go to place for great seafood! Always fresh, good portions, great flavor, fair and reasonable price. Service staff are always enthusiastic, friendly and helpful! What more can you ask for?"

  • "I was craving lobster and since it was my birthday I decided to splurge. ! 1/2 pound live New England Lobster $45. It was steamed and cut in half. It seemed more like 1 to 1l4 pound to me but it was delicious and perfectly cooked. Two sides came with the dinner and I chose the mashed potatoes and the grilled asparagus both of which were generous portions and well prepared and seasoned. The waitress was excellent and attentive without being a bother. I ordered a vodka on the rocks with "splash" of soda water and some lime. The splash turned out to be way more soda that I wanted and on the second round I mentioned it but it came the same. Even though we made reservations through Open Table that were confirmed, we had to wait 15 minutes."

  • "Visited Yankee Pier mid-week at 6 pm. The space is attractive with high ceilings and an open kitchen. The restaurant was busy but not packed, the back dining room and outdoor space were not in use. Had grilled halibut with sides of sauteed mushrooms and spinach. It was delicious- the fish was perfectly grilled and a good size portion. The preparation was lightly seasoned with a lemon butter sauce on the side. My partner had the clam chowder and fish and chips. He ate everything with gusto. Service was attentive. It probably gets pretty loud on a busy night, not a date night destination. Ask for a booth for more space and privacy. It is a bit pricey but ingredients are high quality. We will return."

  • "Although it is set in Lafayette, Yankee Pier might be the best, freshest seafood in the Bay Area. Always well prepared, the fish and other seafood are wonderful. The raw bar is also outstanding. I have not had a bad meal or even a bad dish at the Yankee Pier."

  • "Great sea food! I like the ambiance- you feel like you're in the east coast in a seaside town when you're in this restaurant. Super attentive staff. Fun bar menu with good drinks. Nice selection on kids menu. Really enjoy this place on date night, girls night out and as a family outing with young kids."

  • "Though our waiter was attentive and completely competent, she just wasn't the waiter we had requested (he was not on that evening). The food was good, but not outstanding."

  • "We eat here often because the food and service are always good."

  • "Walk out if there is a large group dinner. The Hostess packed a small corner with normal diners and sat the large party in the rear leaving the entire center of the floor emty"

  • "The menu is mostly fish, which is good. I saw a couple of people eating burgers. Cerveche was very good. My friend loved the fish and chips, including the cole slaw. The clam chowder was really tasteless, very thick with what seemed like flour thickening, hard to find the clams."

  • "We have been to this outlet for lunch on several occasions for a sandwich and outdoor seating. This was our first time for dinner, and it was a very different experience: Once our orders were in, it was difficult to get any further service (refills on water/drinks; an extra fork, the bill). The sole was good; the halibut was overcooked, dry, tasteless."

  • "Same experience i had when it first opened. Food lacked flavor. Nice ambiance, but extremely noisy. Not worth the price. See you in another 5 years."

  • "If this were Paris, Yankee Pier would be our neighborhood hangout. Always welcoming, clean surroundings and totally consistent quality of fresh food. Service could not be better including the welcome when you come in the front door. Please don't change! Todd and Nancy"

  • "The food and service at the restaurant were very good. The mahi mahi & filet of sole were grilled perfectly. The asparagus and sprouts were well prepared and tasty. The only negative comment I have is the restaurant is very loud and it was hard to have a quiet conversation."

  • "We had a delightful dinner! The service was professional, friendly and very attentive!!! My comment on the Crab Louis is that there were little bits of shell in the salad so there could be improvement on how the fish is picked over for shells before serving. Also, I was disappointed that no salad vegetables came with the Louis, ie. asparagus spears (which are in season), tomatoes, etc. Thank You!"

  • "Having been to Yankee Pier twice recently, I am quite impressed with the fresh seafood, carefully prepared. The dishes are simple but could hardly be more delicious or complementary to the very fresh seafood."

  • "This is a local restaurant and we have been to itabout 10 times since it opened five years ago. It has a theme and it is sliding downhill. They show a special menu with today's date. But when did the menu last change? The last two times, both Saturday nights, with reservations, and reasonably early, they were out of rockfish, except as battered and deep fried. A New England theme with no rockfish? The fish available were Oregon Steelhead, which my wife had, and which was good, but its available at about any local restaurant; Mahi Mahi (is it really?); and sturgeon. plus various types of crabs, mussels, oysters and prawns. No rockfish? No ahi or yellow fin tuna? no poke? no sole or flounder? Is there no fish at the markets?"

  • "We had a party of 9 which I had asked to be seated in the back room. The restaurant totally accommodated. It was noisy in the room, but quieted down as we hung around and the other people left. We ordered a wine that wasn't good and our excellent server, replaced it with a different choice. She was terrific with all of our different orders and then payment types. The restaurant was out of a couple of things, but there was plenty left on the menu for everyone's tastes. The big biscuit was delicious and way full of calories!"

  • "Great seafood. Have eaten here before and whatever I or my guests have ordered has been prepared to perfection. Good selection of sides and methods of preparation for the sea food. Decent list of wines by the glass."

  • "My husband and I were looking forward to an evening out for Valentine's Day. I ordered Ahi Tuna and it came with rice and bok choy with a chipotle sauce drizzle. While the fish was nice, and seemed to be fresh, the rest of the dish lacked flavor. It was marginal at best. Since it was part of the special Valentine's menu, I expected more. In addition to that, our waiter seemed like he belonged more at a bar or a Chili's type of restaurant....very casual and used a lot of slang. It did not feel like an upscale dining experience or certainly not anything remotely romantic. We have had much better meals and service at Yankee Pier and were really disappointed."

  • "Nice place to have a good meal. I had the steak and lobster combo and my wife had the shrimp pasta dish. Everything was done nicely and the oysters were great for an appetizer. Service was outstanding and I'd recommend this place."

  • "The big plus of this restaurant is the menu, its creative display of seafood options, and knowledge of wait staff. Weakness is the attitude of overall staff which is a bit too aloof for an affluent family suburb, and not attentive to client's needs. For example, we arrived at the very end of lunch at the least busy time, and had almost to insist on our table selection (we didn't want to be near the kitchen) The fish and sides we had were of decent quality in preparation, but the price was too high to be a proper value. It's my first time, so I would expect given the large menu I may come again but it will be months away at a minimum."

  • "The food was great. And service was pretty good. I felt a little rushed, we were only there for about 35 minutes. It was also pretty loud and crowded so I sometimes couldn't hear my date."

  • "Generally excellent. Sometime the beans are undercooked. Manager usually checks with you to make sur everything is to your liking. This is a nice touch. Good fish tacos if you are on a budget. The wines are expensive so I usually go with an ale. They have some on tap $6.50/glass. Still a little high, but yummy."
