Diner Reviews
  • "The restaurant and its garden give an excellent panoramic view of city Los Angeles. The food is not top, but it is always a nice place to celebrate. "

  • "We recently celebrated a birthday, with dinner at sunset. The view was breathtaking, as always. Everyone was pleased with their meals, and the price was in line for a special occasion."

  • "Perfect spot for a perfect date. Amazing, glamorous view with a serene walking path decorated with buddhist art and landscaping. Great food and very accommodating for a vegetarian such as myself. They even brought out a treat for my lady's bday. Perfect date. The limo and champagne probably helped a bit too lol."

  • "Amazing restaurant. The food was amazing. The view was stunning. Can't wait to visit again soon."

  • "Recently went to Yamashiro with a group of 6 for a birthday party. Very nice experience. Food was excellent. Beautiful view. Great place for a special event."

  • "This was our first time at Yamashiro. I had heard about it for years and always wanted to eat there. We celebrated my husband's birthday and he can't stopping talking about how special the evening was. We highly recommend the restaurant."

  • "What we ordered (Total $115): Sapporo beer with ginger shot (Good) Wakame Seaweed Salad (Okay) Crisscut Fries with Dipping Sauce (Okay. I expected it to have a more Japanese twist besides the sauce.) Black Forbidden Rice Roll (Great. Vegetarian option.) Vegetable Platter and Quinoa (Okay. I will order more sushi instead of this next time.) Loch Duart Salmon (Okay. Mashed potatoes way to lemony.) S'mores Fudge Brownie (Great. Probably the best thing we ordered.) Grab a window seat. City view at night while dining is outstanding. The stroll around the garden overlooking the city lights is excellent for a romantic evening. Great service from valet ($8) and restaurant staff."

  • "My wife and I had a really nice time. Service and the dinner was awesome! I will be having dinner at least every three months thanks again."

  • "We arrived 5 minutes after our reservation and had to wait another 10-15 minutes. Other than that, great experience."

  • "Yamashiro was great, the views are amazing. All the staff was friendly and very helpful. The food was great also, my wife ordered the lobster and I had the salmon, both were very good with lots of flavor. When I let our waitress know that it was my wife's birthday right before we ordered desert, she was very nice and brought out an extra small desert, very quickly - for something being brought up last minute. The only thing was we had reservations for 8:30pm but were not seated until about 20-25 minutes later - they were very busy - but we were able to go into the garden area to view and take some pictures."

  • "Great if you want to watch the lights of the city but had to wait 30 min even though had reservation for table and then when food arrived was okay but not great. Go for the view and atmosphere, not for the food :)"
    Dined on 4/5/2014
  • "The atmosphere was great, we felt like travelling back to Kyoto. The service was excellent and we even got a small cake for our anniversary. The view up there is stunning and the food is simply delicious."

  • "I am from Miami, FL, and have been to this restaurant in LA numerous times. I travel a lot, and it is simply one of the best restaurants I have EVER been too. When you combine the food, the incredible view, the bonsai gardens, it is just an amazing experience. Don't miss it, you will not regret it."

  • "Been at Yamashiro once before with clients, and this time with my wife. We waited 35 min to get our table, and had eye contact with the hostess more or less all the time, despite that, I had to ask her when our table was ready, and she forgot to seat us, and could not even remember that I had a talk with her 30-40 min earlier. Food is ok, price is reasonable on the high, but you pay for the fantastic view, and if you are out on a romantic dinner, this is great. Ask for a quiet table, and as late in the night as possible to avoid screaming kids"

  • "very nice ambience, i had salmon bit with mash potatoes, next time i will replace it with rice pilaf :-)"

  • "This place is a great spot for people who are visiting LA and want to get a good look of the city and enjoy some yummy Asian fusion food. The restaurant is perched in the Hollywood hills, looking out and over the city all the way from downtown to the water. The restaurant is massive with many different levels and areas of seating, so it's definitely a great spot for large groups and parties. The food menu caters to everyone's taste buds as it offers an array of meats, seafoods, and vegetarian options. The service was straight forward, quick, and friendly. Overall a great experience! Will definitely be back!"

  • "Yamashiro is located directly above te Magic Castle, up a windy road in the Hollywood Hills. The views of Los Angeles and surrounding skyline are spectacular-especially at sunset. The menu and food are wonderful and the service is friendly and knowledgeable. Parking is Valet only. but the service is prompt and efficient. All of this comes with a pretty hefty price tag, so save this experience for a special occasion."

  • "Note: this is not a restaurant to bring children under ten years old. When we were there last week, a large party had two young children, approx age was a two year old and a three year old...they were crying and screaming...we love kids and have three small ones at home, however, When paying almost $300.00 for a night out we don't want to be sitting next to screaming children. Please parents be responsible and know this is NOT a kid restaurant. Our kids act up when they are tired as well, so I understand. However, this is a restaurant to unwind a little. Other than the screaming children, last week's visit was wonderful. Thank you"

  • "I have refrained from going to this restaurant with the idea that restaurants with wonderful views often miss on the food. Yamashiro's breaks that stereotype. We were celebrating a family birthday and were given a prime table next t the window. We each ordered different menu items, and they were all so good we ended up sharing them all. Cocktails were interesting, and a walk around the gardens capped off the experience. Thank you Yamashiro for a terrific evening!"

  • "I've been to Yamashiro many times and it NEVER gets old. The view is amazing and the ambiance is extremely inviting. The food is very good and I really like the sushi too. We had the best service."
    Dined on 3/21/2014
  • "The food was great. Our waiter was terrific but he refused to split out checks for a larger party. As a result, there was a lot of confusion when it came time to pay. Disappointed that he wasn't willing to do what was convenient for our dinner party"

  • "Fairly loud, but not bad for Saturday night. Excellent view of Hollywood. Food was very good, and the service was outstanding. Will certainly go back."

  • "My husband and I went to Yamashiro for his birthday; we chose it specifically for the view, which is stunning. The building and grounds also have a great old Hollywood feel. The food is not the most amazing, but for a restaurant whose selling point is its location and view, Yamashiro actually does better with food than many similar establishments. Everything my husband and I ordered - sushi, short ribs, and appetizer tacos - was tasty, and the tacos were amazingly good. The service was not as great - everyone was very nice, but the service was super slow (more than 2 hours for a 6pm dinner). We had to ask to have our waitress come by more than once. Also, even that early, the noise level was quite boisterous and the place was packed."

  • "Perfect place if you're looking for somewhere romantic. Celebrated my 1 year aniversary here and loved it."
    Dined on 3/19/2014
  • "Yamashiro is a great place to take a significant other. The place looks super good and high class. The food is expensive, and probably not worth the money, but the overall dining experience is worth it. You definetly should come here at least once in your lifetime. Also has excellent views of the city. If you like the night view of the city, come at night. The drawback of that is that they also have a bit of japanese gardens there, which you won't be able to fully enjoy in the dark."

  • "We happened upon this place last minute for my wifes birthday. We sat at the window looking out over all of the LA basin. The voice got a little heavy but a 5 person group sat next to us and were quite festive. Other than that, the food was top notch, decent prices. Worth the money and a great evening.."

  • "We were seated at a very small table.. Requested a larger table for our bottle of wine and the amount of food.. Never given an answers as to why we could not change to larger table.."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "I took a group of eight here for a bachelor party dinner. Everyone loved it! Not one of us had a complaint about the food. A couple of us got the Himalayan salt plate, and it was amazing. The staff was very helpful and the setting was great. The only negative thing to say was we were near a large group that was celebrating a birthday and they were way too rowdy, so it was much louder than I was hoping given the prices we were paying for food, but that is more a knock on the people than the restaurant."
    Dined on 3/15/2014
  • "The views are top-notch, but the service? Yikes. Took ages for the waitress to come to the table in the first place, then ages more for us to get our drinks. And even then, not the slightest hint of an apology. A couple notes of fairness: It was a busy Saturday night, and the host was particularly nice. But still. C'mon."
