A word from XO Le Restaurant
The French called Canada’s main financial thoroughfare "rue Saint-Jacques", and the English "St-James Street". Synonymous with opulence and influence, it was the second street in what is now Montréal. Bordered by banks and named after Jacques Olier, the street continues to be known today as a museum of high finance. Today, Hotel Le St-James, the former Merchants Bank, sits enthroned at the crossroads of history. On midsummer nights, modern-day coachmen in top hats take us back a hundred years to a day when bankers glanced at their pocket watches while crossing rue St-Jacques to the stock exchange and central telegraph offices just blocks away.

XO Le Restaurant, situated in the former Banker's Hall, is truly a beautiful space composed of a dining room, a bar & lounge, two beautiful mezzanines, as well as four alcoves which add an extra touch of comfort and privacy. Chef Robillard's exciting culinary imagination brings you modern, creative French cuisine.

Diner Reviews
  • "It was incredibly slow..on an evening when there were only 20 or so diners, an hour between entree and main course is far too long.."

  • "We chose this restaurant for a special occasion, particularly for the tasting menu experience. The cost of this special meal is as advertised and in my opinion was worth it. It was without a doubt the most amazing, enjoyable dining experience of my life so far. The food was unique, delicious, well paced, well presented, well served in a comfortable pleasant environment. We had the wine pairings with the meal and this also was wonderfully done. Definitely a special occasion kind of night but fabulous from start to finish. Having also glanced at the regular menu I am sure we will return next time we are in Montreal. Thank you XO."

  • "The food was excellent, but someone had brought an infant. This was at 20:30 in the evening !! After repeated requests, the staff refused to ask the parents to remove or silence the child. So I left."

  • "Enjoyable evening, could have gone without the televisions."

  • "We were 2 couples and felt like great food but also a place where we could concentrate on our conversatiions. The table was large enough that the girls and the guys could chat together while sometimes it would be the 4 of us. Service was nothing short of impeccable. Food was extraordinary and overall was less pricy than I would have expected. Great place. The St-James Hotel with the XO restaurant is really and nice venue."

  • "This restaurant is consistent in the service, quality of food and ambiance! It has been added to my top five in Montreal when I tried it for the very first time two years ago for a business supper. If you want to always be wowed go and experience XO!"

  • "We had great expexctation for this restaurant. We are familiar with tasting menu and we might be very critical. We found that the menu didn't create the "wow" effect. The wine pairing was good, but the wine stewart was laking of interest and passion. It was like if he was reading a little text. We didn't not feel like if the tasting menu was made to please us. Considering all these elements, the price is too high for the value of the dinner. It was also too long, we were there on a thursday night and it took a little more than 3 hours for the 6 services."

  • "First time at XO and it wont be my last. The service was superb. The food original and delicious. Decor inspiring. My risotto was a little to salty for my taste, butit was still very good."

  • "We had a 9:30pm reservation so that we could freshen up from our 11 hour train ride from NYC. We were delighted that Taste Montreal began that evening and we enjoyed a wonderful, delicious, "Top Chef"-like 3 course meal for much less than it was worth. The restaurant sits in what we supposed was the lobby of the St. James Hotel - high ceilings, columns - wonderful ambience. The service was impeccable and very friendly. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys fine food!"

  • "If you are looking for a beautiful room with great ambience, a place to see and be-seen, this is your place. But if you also want great food, go elsewhere. While the service was first class, and the architecture and ambience superb, the taste experience fell flat. Appetizers, main courses, and desserts were all equally bland.. Their focus was clearly on service and presentation. Of the 5 different menu selections we made, all 5 were excellent presentations on the plate but all were equally bland tasting. I would not recommend a single one of our menu choices to other diners and do not recommend this restaurant. The dishes were imaginative but the execution fell flat. Within a week we will have forgotten we were ever at XO."

  • "Top restaurant with knowledgable staff, outstanding (seasonable) menu. Posh and romantic with lovely alcoves. Wine list not only has some beautiful choices, but priced reasonably."

  • "It was my second visit at the XO and as usual the food and the presentation were outstanding. I was a little bit disappointed by the service. Water was spilled all over the table every time our glasses were filled up and it was the samething with wine."
    Dined on 10/19/2013
  • "Expensive food, but gourmet in every way. Delicious to the last. The wine list was very extensive, as well."
