XicoLived up to the hypeOur party of four ate a Xico on a busy Friday night. The servers were very attentive and they even changed our reservation so that we could sit on the patio. The food was amazing! I was pretty impressed by their Mexican coffee with dessert. Delicious! It's definitely worth a try.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMTried it because of PortlandTried it because of Portland dining month. Mole sauce was excellent. Totopos were very tasty. Grilled prawns was good. Guac w pineapple adds a different twist. Atmosphere was very pleasant. Portions were great for me but slightly on the skimpy side for both my husband and our guy friend. Noise level was very high when the place was full and we've to yell to hear each other. Will go back another time to try some of the other dishes but maybe on a weekday instead of weekend.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb flavorsThe flavors from the tortilla chips to the appetizers and the main dish were superb. I enjoyed every bite of this wonderful meal. Do yourself a favor and come enjoy a little slice of heaven.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMTerrific use of spices ...Terrific use of spices ... best margarita in town!6/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSolidWe had a very enjoyable meal. Mescal coctails were creative and tasty. Food was fresh and nicely presented and not just a big pile of food like at most Mexican restaurants. The staff seemed overwhelmed by a busy saturday night, but not so much so that it detracted materially from the evening. I'll go back.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMDining Out DelightWe went for the fixed price menu for the month of June and were wowed by how delicious everything was. We tried both a spinach and a beef sopas and said "mmm" aloud. The abodo shrimp tacos tasted great even though I'm not a shrimp lover. They were also totally accommodating to our request for a gluten-free dessert, which was the richest flourless chocolate cake I've ever had. One of those for both of us would have been enough. The margaritas were amazing, and the service was delightful too!6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the tripReally enjoyed our dinner. Staff was great. The food was terrific. We will be back for sure. No complaints.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMReally Noisy! Our table of 4 could barely hear each other, and we were seated near the front of the restaurant. Our entrees appeared while we were still eating our appetizers - it made for some plate shuffling on the table, and we felt rushed to eat. We had the Portland dining month special - the shrimp was a bit over-seasoned, and 4 tortillas would have been much better than three, to match the quantity of shrimp and guacamole.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMUnique TastesHave eaten here many times-always excellent food and drinks. Responsive service. This time grilled shrimp on the social menu was best shrimp dish ever! Wish we had gotten an outside table.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat menu and great serviceI was delighted by the menu - so many interesting choices. We did the portland dining month 3-course meal and each course was full of complex flavors. And, the service was friendly and excellent.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMService was impeccableI was especially impressed with the service, our waitress took the time with us without being overbearing. I have the pozole soup with whole trout, one of the best meals I've had in a while. Perfect portions and great quality. The back patio was perfection.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMLovely patioWe had an excellent dining experience eating outside on a gorgeous evening. The chips and guacamole were fresh flavorful. Loved the creative salad with fresh peas, spinach, jicama and green dressing. The pork in mole and fresh tortillas were sumptuous. Finally the tres leches cake was the best, with lime sauce, fresh strawberries and cream was the best!6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGourmet Mexican!Very good find. Both our meals were delicious, unusual and fairly priced.5/31/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful mealWe truly enjoyed everything about our meal at Xico. From the homemade chips and guacamole to the delicious desserts and every dish in between we had a wonderful dinner. I would definitely recommend Xico!5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMUpscale MexicanFood, vibe and decor all just a little different, in a good way. Excellent service. The queso fuendo is to die for, and the margaritas not far behind.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMTradition meets modernityThe food was very well prepared and showed a nice blend of creativity with traditional preparation practices. And while the menu is not extensive, it offers a nice range of options, from seafood to Mexico's inland dishes. This is a very cozy little restaurant that is well-worth return visits.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMothers' Day BrunchThe menu was their standard menu, but it was wonderful. Lots of creative, appealing choices, easy to tailor to varying tastes, and we loved everything we ate (the chef - Kelly - worked under Cathy Whims of Genoa/Nostrana fame). It's a fabulous space, light and airy, refined and still kid-friendly, with an outdoor patio that wasn't in use at the time but would be great on warm days and evenings. We'll be back for sure!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMy new favorite brunchKelly Myers says she has never done a professional brunch before this day. It's hard to believe, and if true, has done those of us who enjoy brunch a disservice. The food was spot on: the best chilaquiles I have ever had, amazing tortilla soup with pea shoots (I wish I had the recipe) and don't forget the sopapaillas filled with lime curd, yogurt and fresh honey. The coffee was a perfect accompaniment for the end of such an amazing meal.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic food and a greatFantastic food and a great patio out back. I have eaten here twice and will definitely return again.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe chips are unique and wellThe chips are unique and well worth trying. The pollo asada was substantial and well prepared. This was out second time here and it is definitely and different type of mexican restaurant.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and decor: YES! Service? NO!Went to Xico for the first time for a fun Cinco de Mayo dinner. Restaurant is bright and engaging with an amazing outdoor patio area. Waiter, a wanna-be older hipster, came across as pretentious and brusque. Got the drink order wrong ... charged us for an appetizer we were told was a freebie because we weren't able to sit outside ... and forgot to enter our dinner orders — causing the owner (who was very nice) to visit our table after 45+ minutes and tell us the entrees were on the house. Food was AMAZING! Location, decor and vibe were GREAT! Owner and bartender were professional and friendly. But our waiter -- the one male waiter in the place -- was bad with a capital B. Definitely recommend, but steer clear of the waiter w/the goatee.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AM!Delicious! Sabroso! Bien Hecho!I found my leftovers from xico today while I was putting away my groceries. It turned into a sit-down pig-out fest then and there.
Everything was great at Xico. We went there with a group, this group included everyone from picky eaters (myself) to vegetarian foodies. But we all had dishes we were raving about and reaching across the table to taste.
Have these:
Mushroom cheese enchilada dish (masa-chipotle thing)!
The steak entree!
The coconut candy bar thing!
The Pozole is fish-delish! But an entire fish comes on top of the soup (picky eaters, be forewarned!)
I could eat a meal of their chips salsa and guac! But note that the chips are cooked (roasted or fried?) to order, so they come out slowly & warm.
It's so all good!
See you there!5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful place for dinner!Every time we go here we are treated so well by all the staff, especially our usual server. We enjoy this place so much that we have added it to our short list for neighborhood favorites. The food is great, especially the tortilla and salsa plate with a side of guacamole and beans. The steak dish is really good too, and the flourless chocolate cake is lovely. We bring our kids too, and they are always welcome. They have a kids menu, which helps. Now they have the outside patio open, which looks nice and lush.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMPozole, Mind Blownhad the pozole. hands down the best cooked fish i've ever eaten in my life. a mind-blowing whole roast trout. oh my god.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMBeen here twice now. FoodBeen here twice now. Food and service have always been great. Delicious margaritas! The green tacos are fabulous! Prices are a bit high but overall it was good.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was absolutely amazing! The food was absolutely amazing! Everyone in our party of six ordered something different and everyone LOVED what they got! Incredible flavors and cooked to perfection. The homemade tortillas and salsa are to-die-for. Additionally, the service was friendly, prompt and the staff was knowledgeable. I will definitely be back.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMXico is a fantastic restaurant,Xico is a fantastic restaurant, in every way. From the food, to the service, to the design; Xico hits all the right notes.4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent. IThe food was excellent. I had the pork and beef combination plate. The braised short ribs were tender and flavorful. The 3 chilli salsa was fantastic.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThey had one can of IPAD leftThey had one can of IPAD left at 7pm......not good for a beer lover! Noise to loud to be able to carry on comfortable conversation.
Food, otherwise great.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious food, great margaritasDelicious food, great margaritas and excellent services. Lovely space also. The menu was creative and everything that we ordered was so good. Prices somewhat high for serving sizes but justified based on quality and creativity. We can't wait to go back.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMLooking forward to our next visitExcellent food! Loved the homemade tortillas and salsas. The mescal list is excellent! Everyone at our table of five was pleased!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMPretty good, not great.Mole was too much like spicy chocolate pudding. Tacos were not great. Collards were fabulous! Sopaipillas for dessert were excellent! Nice place.4/2/2013 12:00:00 AMCowboy beans and tortillasCowboy beans and tortillas are to die for, short-rib quesadilla a must-try! Margarita is perfect.3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and combinationExcellent food and combination of flavors. very good wait staff.3/19/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was delicious.Everything was delicious. The totopos were so good, great margaritas, amazing salsas.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMBest food I've had in PortlandBest food I've had in Portland in a long time. Also am very impressed that they cover health insurance for all their employees.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat, New Restaurant to Check OutWonderful restaurant and just right down the street from my house. I highly recommend the Taco Salad, it's not a Taco Salad in the conventional sense. My only complaint is that it a tad on the expensive side especially if you order drinks with your meal.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWe arrived just as they openedWe arrived just as they opened on a Friday, very low key, quiet. Margaritas are tart a lot of lime, good but definitely refreshing. Queso Fundido with chorizo and salsa was very tasty, and the homemade corn tortillas excellent; the waiter bought us a second bundle without our asking, very attentive, personable and friendly. He clearly likes the place and knows how the food is sourced etc. which in this town is a must, without being over the top. We were there for HH and I love hot dogs, the Sonoran dog was fabulous and $5; my companion had the flank steak. Reasonably priced glasses of white wine and dessert - the sopaipillas were light and fluffy pillows and the cocada was dense and what a candy bar should be. Lots of things to go back for.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMNot your typical mexican restaurantNot your typical mexican restaurant. The menu is different than most tex-mex restaurants. The food was extremely good. The chips on the appetizer menu were outstanding, though the citrus flavor was a little strong. The tacos were tremendous.2/12/2013 12:00:00 AMLike being back on the dockLike being back on the dock in Cabo! What innovative Mexican cuisine! We will return!!1/5/2013 12:00:00 AM
