  • "We went to Upstairs at World Cafe Live for dinner and music by a solo acoustic reggae artist and were not disappointed. We were a group of six and I would say the restaurant is best for smaller groups (2- and 4-tops). It was a good combination of casual fare, good wine and beer list, and great ambiance. The crowd that night (and probably most nights) was over 30s by and large and it was pretty mellow. A great evening of music in Philadelphia!"

  • "The staff at the World Cafe seemed very disorganized and didn't see that our seats were vip and sent us downstairs so that they could send us upstairs again. The seats themselves were great, but a VERY loud family at the next table disrupted the evening for everyone around them (despite wait staff's interventions)."

  • "I always enjoy the food and service. Always cutting edge and a great selection of cocktails and beers. Make a reservation. The place may look empty and the host won't seat you if you don't have a reservation. Watched a table stay open for over 3 hours and he still wouldn't see me and my guest. The bartender was great and accommodating. I finally went on my phone and made a rezo and then the host sat me. And lucky me me he had a nice snarky comment. Server was great food was awesome. And live music to boot."

  • "Great night out with friends and family to see the Stray Birds… stellar show in a cozy atmosphere! Thank you World Cafe Live!"

  • "This was our first time and I think we both expected more than a "cafe'" menu. We were pleasantly surprised with the taste of the food however. Very tasty! The first act came on and she was amazing and the crowd was into the music and that made it fun. Fun night overall!"

  • "We went to World Cafe Live mainly to see "Who Got The Jazz" - tribute to George Benson (although we thought it would be Wes Montgomery). The restaurant/club is nice - especially for food and entertainment. We got a table near the front, so we could see everything. We're both vegetarians, so we were glad to see some choices for us on the menu. I was able to get a pasta dish with asparagus, and my husband got a grilled cheese with fries. Both dishes were tasty. I tried some of my husband's fries and they were delicious. We'll probably go there again."

  • "Saw a great show and ate some great food. The eggplant fries get me every time!! They accomodated my seating request with a smile as well!"

  • "Went for a band, arrived a bit early and was seated a full 20 minutes AFTER reservation time, 35 minutes after arrival and well into band's set (and were not even allowed a good place to wait). Service was incredibly slow, lots of time passed before anyone even came to the table we had waited so long to be seated at. Continued throughout entire meal and after meal. Food was average at best. Will look for other options to see live music."

  • "Overall, it was a really good experience. We bought tickets for the show, so we got there a bit earlier (with a reservation) to have dinner first. Then we had drinks while we enjoyed the music performance. The food was generally delicious. My husband said it was prob one of the best duck dishes he's had - I guess they were on point that night! the other entree choices were delicious as well. I'm still unsure of the whole process - the way we did it was prob best - bought tickets online, and reserved a table online for about an hour before the show - we got to stay at the table during the show. It seems that anyone who did not reserve a table had to stand."

  • "My cousin and I found out about a Jazz so last minute one night, and decided to check it out. It was recommended to reserve a table, and to our surprise we ended up right up front with a great view of the band. We were a bit hungry, so I ordered the salmon and a glass of Malbec, and she had the quesadillas and the cocktail called "A Change is Gonna Come"... all very good. This place was a nice change of pace, and we will be back. Only thing I'd change is the attentiveness of the waitstaff, but I don't think they expected as many people to be there that night, but the band drew a larger crowd than it seemed they were used to."

  • "we had tickets to a show there and it was absolutely perfect to not have to scramble from restaurant to show and compromise on food. The eggplant fries were amazing, nice variety of options for one vegetarian and one non-vegetarian and everything we had was quickly serviced, temperature right, and delicious. Service was lovely. Would definitely recommend this place."

  • "My friend and I went there for a low-key 'date' type night. We had a great time listening to the music and chatting when it wasn't too loud. We ordered food at the upstairs venue before the show started, ate and had a few drinks. We never had to pay for the show - just the food bill and left pretty early. The server was really accommodating of our Gluten Free needs and we really nice. The upstairs venue is definitely loud for conversation."

  • "If you're looking for a special way to dine in University City with your spouse or friends, there's probably no better way than to surprise yourselves with "music on the side". Admittedly, this means tacking on a music charge (ours was $15 a head) to dinner, but the dinner itself was a reasonable cost and the music made all the difference for us. Upstairs Live, or Downstairs (the "main stage"), it doesn't matter. World Cafe Live is a gem and should be added to your rotation of great later (8:00 or after) night dining options in W Philly!"

  • "Dinner at the World Cafe was very nice. A laid-back atmosphere with a casual menu. Mostly sandwiches and apps. Food was reasonably priced and quite good. Not great, but good. Very convenient if you are going to a show downstairs."

  • "First time to WCL in Philadelphia. Different from their younger sibling in Wilmington, but that's okay. Food was very good, prepared as requested and delivered in a very timely fashion. Kate, our server, was very attentive, but not overbearing or intrusive. Showed an interest in and demonstrated a high regard for the WCL. Music was of a nationally renowned zydeco band that was having a good time entertaining the room with great music"

  • "Most folks go to WCL Upstairs to see a performing artist. But the food is good too. Also check to see who is performing and cover charge if you plan to just eat. Generally the cover charge ($10-$20) starts 30 min before a show. Wait staff here is great. Happy Hour is 5-7pm"

  • "Reservation was over 30min late and no one seemed to care or be in any hurry to get us our table we reserved. It looked like there were two wait staff total which made it very difficult to get any service what-so-ever, not their fault, they did a good job, there should just have been at least 2 more people on staff. The live music is the only reason why anyone would put up with the terrible service. If it were anywhere else they would be out of business in one week."

  • "I usually got to the World Cafe Live for music only, but recently I had dinner there. What a nice surprise! Good menu, complete with veggie options. Fairly priced tasty apps, salads, and mains. I'll definitely count on dinner before a concert again."

  • "My husband and I enjoyed our first dining experience here very much. I had the special grilled cheese sandwich of the day, which was loaded with veggies. The eggplant fries were truly wonderful, and something I had never had elsewhere. My husband's fish and chips was equally tasty, with three generous pieces of cod lightly breaded and perfectly cooked. Our desserts were amazing. I had the baked apple creme brûlée and he had the bourbon pecan pie. The brûlée was creamy, flavorful, and again, perfectly flamed. The pecan pie was the best I've had in a long time, not overly sweet, with whole pecans. We had a great view of the performers, and the sound system was just right, neither too loud nor too hard to hear. We will definitely return."

  • "The food is fine and the beer list is usually very good. Service could have been a bit more attentive, but since this is a live music venue, I don't expect extremely high levels of service. Overall, a fun experience, as it has been in the past."

  • "World Cafe LIve is a music nightclub yet several tables & one large group seemed to be oblivious to the music, which distracted from the whole experience. Plus they were sat close to the stage & clearly distracted the performers. There did not seem to be enough waitstaff for the number of tables, so our waitress was stretched thin (and did a good job). Our first time at WCL. Not sure if we are going back soon. The food was good."

  • "Overall I really enjoyed myself.... The food was was ok I had the crab biscuit, it taste good but it seem like it was sitting for a while when it came to me it was just warm. The white wine was great and the show was amazing. The atmosphere was laid back, chill and very comfortable I will be attending again also the male attends was a great help and there customer service was great really went out there way to make everything run smooth for me and my husband who is in a wheelchair"

  • "I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to the staff at world cafe live. I ask for a table on stage right and was given a table almost directly on the stage. I could not have asked for a better seat. I would also like to thank them on behalf of the band. As a part of their support/merch team I am extremely grateful for the help given by staff at all times and the openness of them all towards the band and our team."

  • "One of best places to see live music in Philly. I would not go here just for food, but it's decent if you are seeing a show."

  • "After horrible traffic getting into Philly we were late. When seated all we wanted was a drink which took forever and then to get another was slower. Food came fast and was ok. Nothing special. Was disappointed depending on what floor you were on, we had tix for show downstairs, you couldn't get some types of beer. Each area was different so couldn't get same beer I started with when went downstairs to watch concert. Strangest thing. With radio playing so loud you had to almost yell to talk over other people yelling to hear each other. At 6 pm only what you expect when trying to gave a dinner conversation. Ate here before and service was better."

  • "Wow where do I start! Where can you find great music, food, and drinks at this price. I happened by this place and thought cheap tickets and a show. But to my surprise I loved it so much. The ambiance, great music, food and easy parking. What a total package! And I've met my favorite artist. You can be sure I'll keep checking and making reservations for another show and dinner. Thank you world cafe live!"

  • "We dined at World Café Live prior to attending a show downstairs. It was our first visit there. We had made a 5:30 reservation and were seated promptly. There was a live jam session from 5:30-7:30 which was enjoyable while we dined. We had the fish and chips--it was done very nicely--nice and crisp and served with vinegar and tartar. By 6:00 it was pretty busy. Overall both the food and jazz were very good. The show downstairs was wonderful--and they also serve food downstairs."

  • "My guest and I were very disappointed in the venue for the November 10 evening dining experience and Travis Garland VIP experience. I made specific reservations online and due to the miscommunication and disorganization of the Travis Garland management team and the venue, my reservation was backed up and I waited over 2 and a half hours just to be seated and served. In addition, I had to wait an extra 30 minutes just for a server to come to my table. To make matters worse, the waitress was rude and the food was extremely bland. An apology would have been greatly appreciated for the extreme inconvenience. Time is money, and I believe both were wasted on this evening. Also, please consider providing benches in the lobby for guests who wait."

  • "World Cafe Live is a quaint place. I really enjoyed my time there. I went to see a concert and the experience was great. The waitresses were quite friendly and the food was a great. The ambiance was just right in terms of lighting and scenery. It was just small enough to have an intimate concert experience. Needless to say, I'll be back soon."
