The chef has made an art out of craft grilled cheese -- like you've never seen this traditionally homey fare done before. Try the eggplant fries on the side. Not a mediocre item on the menu. Last night was the free weekly blues jam kicked off by David Bromberg - yes, THE David Bromberg - and featured some of the incredible local talent Wilmington has long been known for. Wilmington native Johnny Neel even stopped by to kick things up a notch- he was in the area on tour. Bar-b-que was prepared this night by a guest chef and was outrageously good- I also ordered dessert from the regular menu, a yummy take on key lime pie. The wait staff really hustles- I've never seen any of them lose their cool or sense of humor. Servers were gracious and attentive without being intrusive. Duck confit was stupendous, fish and chips delicate and delicious. Short but nicely varied wine list, artistically priced. The food was overall good and prepared to out liking, came out hot and the waitress did a fine job (Stephanie). Desert menu is a little lacking, coffee was excellant. Liked the ambience and band was good but a little loud. Two people in our group are sensitive to loud noise. The food was delicious! My husband ordered the pretzels for an appetizer, which I though was weird, but I soon learned that it was an awesome choice. I ordered the mini baked brie and enjoyed every last bite. We both ordered burgers and they were made to perfection. It was embarrassing making that "yummy sound" throughout our meal, but we didn't care. The service was great, too. I appreciated not being hovered over, but feeling properly served. Service is equally excellent. We have never had a bad meal there. We especially love enjoying the live music - it is one of the best places in Wilmington and very professionally run. I highly recommend using Open Table to make your reservation, and the restaurant goes out of its way to accommodate any special requests. Highly recommended3/28/2013 12:00:00 AMI was surprised that my reservationI was surprised that my reservation was honored because I made it for when I could actually arrive which was 30 minutes after the show started. I was afraid that they wouldn't hold the reservation after the show started but they did and it was an excellent seat for watching the show! Also, our waiter was excellent and very attentive even though there was much activity (dancing, etc.) due to the show.
One request I have is that the hostess inform people when they are being seated that the kitchen closes at a certain time, it will help with expectations. The hostess sat 2 people next to me with menus after I was told the kitchen was closed. I traveled a distance that evening for a show, but if I was in the area I would consider stopping just for a meal. I was alone that evening, but it would really be a great place to dine with a friend. The wait staff were all very nice and attentive. The food was great, however it took way too long for us to get our drinks and the drinks were not memorable to say the least.
