    I thought I had made reservations for the rooftop. They were actually made downstairs at the Workshop. (I didn't realize they were separate restaurants.). Anyway, after our disappointment, we were seated and explained to the manager our frustration. He promised to make it up to us. He did. He comp'd an appetizer for all four of us. Good start. We asked if the menu was the same upstairs as downstairs. It is not. The one reason we picked this restaurant for my wife's birthday was for one reason. On the menu (for the rooftop) was scallops in risotto. She did not look further on the menu as these are her two favorite things. They worked it out with the upstairs to get her the meal she wanted. Awesome! They even comp'd desserts for all 4 of us!

    This incarnation of the UNION space is the best yet. The food is imaginatively prepared and served. The menu is arranged from very small servings to larger ones eventually ending in full entrees. Any sized appetite can be accommodated. Even though the food is so wonderfully prepared, it still represents one of the best values in downtown Minneapolis. The serving staff is efficient, very knowledgeable and helpful with the menu, and extremely patient. My only complaint is that the restaurant is only open on a limited schedule. I would like to think I could enjoy dinner there on any day of the week. Even with its limited schedule, however, we expect to have many future enjoyable dining experiences at the Workshop at UNION!

    Dined here three weeks after the new concept debuted and had a pleasant experience. The "fork bites" were quite good as were the starters. The recommended main plates - sea bass and the "best" burger you'll find - did not disappoint. Craftsmanship behind the cocktails was top notch and while we weren't initially impressed with the dessert offerings but when we tried them, we discovered that the menu definitely undersold them. We will be back. We dined here prior to taking in a show at the Orpheum, which was a perfect location.

    Some items very good, others so-so. Very good scallop on a fork. Order two or three for a great app. Duck confit app also very good as was celery root soup with vegies. Servers very casually (some would say grubbily) dressed. Reminded us of servers in Austin, Texas, at outdoor barbecue joints. Too casual for a downtown restaurant. This place has a new chef with a great track record who is experimenting so we look forward to visiting again. Very loud music made for a loud dinner despite very few diners.

    food portions are small and not very substantial. taste of entrees was not really great. we liked it better as the seafood restaurant. avoid getting the miso sea bass in pho broth. appetizers were pretty good. stick with the rooftop restaurant.
