We've been here quite a few times and always had excellent service except for this last visit. We cane in at 4:00 PM on a Saturday and there were only 3 tables occupied. It took us 45 minutes to get out food ; 2 orders of buffalo wings, 2 orders of ahi towers and a side of risotto. I hope that's only a one time incident since we've always had excellent service here.

  • Where did Woody's go?

We've tried to be fans of Woody's Solana Beach, hoping that it would be a solid neighborhood go-to place. But after having brunch here for our 5th time since Woody's opened, we were unpleasantly surprised that the level of food quality has slipped so far below what is was only a few short months ago. Our Puerto Nuevo Lobster Omelet was $19, and had one small lump of lobster-the rest of the filling was an overpowering tough, fatty Chorizo sausage. Our French Toast cost $16. SIXTEEN DOLLARS! For FRENCH TOAST! It was to have been soaked in a Gran Marnier/Creme Brulee mixture, but it was so dry that it was flavorless. And what kind of maple syrup is that? Aunt Jemima? Don't get me started on the "Jimmy Dean" sausage patty. A big letdown.

Food was over seasoned and over sauced. It was hard to taste the actual food as the risotto was so salty and the mahi mahi was swimming in a oily sauce. Veggies were nice but needed some color added all green.( broccoli and squash) the service was slow despite the restaurant being only half full. There were two tables with kids that were so loud and there was food all over the floor due to these kids. I was eating with a child so it's not like I am anti kid at restaurants.

The food at our brunch was great, however our waitress was less than stellar! We had to ask for our muffins, our champagne, refills, one guest did not drink alcohol and asked for just oj....which came with the champagne already added, so back it went! She was never anywhere to be found, never returned to check and we had to ask another waitress for more mimosas. She did however show up to give us the bill, never returning with the change, which would have been her tip but it's always better to return the change and let the guest decide! Love the brunch, but.....!

  • When Did Woody's get so bad????

    Dined on 8/4/2013
How can a restaurant be so good, then be so bad? It made me and my friends so sad to have such a horrible experience at Woody's recently all across the board. Our server informed us that there was no General Manager and no head Chef. It was truly one of the worse dinning experiences we have ever had. I hope Woody's get there act together ASAP or soon it will be a distant memory.

Woody's Ambience is great, the Hostess was friendly, the food (brunch) was just okay, but a little on the pricey side; but what really soured our experience was our waitress. The restaurant was not busy, so there was no excuse for her attitude. She was not rude, just unavailable. She seemed bothered to take our order; didn't bother to ask how we wanted our steak or eggs cooked, never brought us the toast that came with our meal, and didn't seem concerned when she brought out 1/2 a chocolate chip muffin divided in two pieces, and I told her I was allergic to chocolate, she didn't take it away, or offer us anything else. She never came back to ask how our meal was, or see if we needed anything. Like I said, 4 star ambience 0 for service.

We had a not very good experience. Party of 8 and when the food came out it took them about 15 minutes for all of us to finally receive our food. Salad was delivered after the entrée, Ahi not cooked to the description of the menu. Just pretty much a disaster. They need some serious help!!!

The overall experience was bad. It took 2 hours to have dinner here and they werent that busy. In between waiters coming to the table was probably an average of 20 minutes. We found a piece of paper in our nachos and the steak had some stringy object in the meat that left us with a bad impression. They tried making it up to us by a free dessert, but it seemed like almost everyone in the restuarant was complaining to the manager and he looked stressed out. Overall i wouldn't recommend this place and i have no desire to come back.

It is very hard to rate the food based on my dish. I ordered lobster risotto. The lobster was amazing. It was tender, flavorful and not overcooked. However, the risotto was terrible. It seemed like the chef used regular rice and just added some milk to it. It was undercooked and grainy. I'm not sure if the great lobster was just lucky or the terrible risotto was just bad luck. The service was horrible. Our drinks were never refilled until we went to refill them ourselves. It took about an hour before we were served our entrees. It took a very long time to get our bill. This place has potential, but it certainly fell short when I was there.

Tried Woody's Big Blue burger this time. The serving was so generous that I could only finish about half my plate. A half pound burger is served alongside a mountain of potatoes (your choice of regular or sweet potato fries, potato salad, or homemade chips). I chose the sweet potato fries, which are thick cut and delicious. My only suggestion would be to serve a garlic aioli or something rather than plain ketchup, since the tomatoes and sweet potatoes fight to be the dominant flavor and don't complement each other particularly well. My spouse's crab cakes were nothing special - average size and served over a disappointing salad. They were listed under "lunch plates", but more an appetizer. I shared my burger and we both left full.

An my first visit to Woody's, I was encouraged by the attentive service, even though the food left a bit to be desired. The drinks, however, did not. From a very good Bloody Mary graced with a strip of crispy bacon, we segued to the bottomless mimosas (little more than champagne with just enough juice to make it opaque). I had the smoked salmon scramble with grilled onions on a toasted bagel ... except that the salmon was not smoked and there were no onions, grilled or otherwise. I asked for cream cheese to liven up the bagelish experience, but they were out. The staff did quickly bring both sour cream and ricotta, however, as substitutes. The place is lively, the brunch is good value, and the staff is attentive. Worth trying again.

Thank goodness we made a reservation. This place was packed on Sunday. I overheard the hostess tell a couple that the wait for a table would be 1 hour and 45 minutes. I assumed that because the place was so busy that the food would be great. I ordered the crab crusted fried green tomatoes and was not thrilled. First off the fried tomato wasn't green! That tang of unripened tomato was totally lost. We also got the vegetable omelet which included peas. Weird. The service was not attentive. Someone tossed a basket of two muffins on our table without a backward glance. After they had dropped our food, I hoped to make eye contact with someone for some Tabasco. Nope. About 10 minutes later we flagged someone down but the food was already cold.

I ate at Woody's for lunch recently and my friend and I both agreed it was superb! We had the crab and shrimp Louie which was fresh and delicious. Our waitress told us abut Tuesday Lobster night which also sounded great. My husband and I invited another couple and we made reservations for 6:30. Although that seemed early enough, they were already out of lobster by the time we arrived! We were told only 20 lobsters, total, were available and they sold out. We weren't surprised that 20 lobsters sold so fast, considering the price, we were surprised, however, that they only had 20 available. It seemed like a "bait and switch". We ordered appetizers instead, and found them just OK.

I specifically asked for the jicama slaw since it was so delicious last time, but the recipe had been drastically changed and it ended up being a real disappointment. C'est la vie. The ribs were a bit dried out, so they might be something to avoid. Next time, we're trying the burgers since the ones we saw going to other tables looked great!

Most of the reviews talked about the brunch so we didn't really know what to expect. The dining area is open with booths lining the walls. We sat at a booth and had a view of the entire restaurant and bar. The service was very good. The restaurant was moderately busy. We all enjoyed our dinners. The lobster mac n cheese was very tasty. I had the lobster risotto. It had an abundant amount of lobster tails in it. I took half of it home. The Kale salad was very tasty, lightly dressed. The really fun thing was that they had a live band that was outstanding. We stayed at the bar after dinner and listened. Can't remember the name, but they were a trio from Hawaii and the music was nice. Will definitely go back again.

When we returned, it was no longer on the menu which was a disappointment. When you have a winner, why drop it? Our waiter was considerate and said he would ask the chef if he could make some but apparently the ingredients were not available. I think the ambiance would be improved without televisions on in so many locations, makes it feel like a sports bar.
