Diner Reviews
  • "Having stumbled upon this restaurant accidentally, I'm glad we made the discovery! Woodwork is a great little spot with fantastic food and a very chill but fancy ambiance. I had ordered the brisket for dinner and the rice pudding for dessert. The brisket was nice and fatty, and the pudding was delicate, not too sweet. I enjoyed being there, though I was surprised that they charged for water. Overall however, I would go again and recommend this to those who want a suggestion!"

  • "Limited menu. Food costly for a mediocre experience."

  • "My son, who works downtown and eats out a lot, took me here for lunch. We are a family of foodies, and he is as demanding as I, if not more so. He insisted that I have a cocktail before lunch, so I did. Fortunately, I am of such an age that I will likely die before I could become an alcoholic, but if I were going to try to become one, the Gin/Basil Smash would be my route. It was divine. So were the kale salad, french fries, and pulled chicken sandwich that followed. Highly recommended. The wait staff were also perfect: respectful without being obsequious, friendly but not "chummy," and perfectly efficient. The bartender was a genius."

  • "we started with hickory fries, that were tossed in smoked butter. Can i say that is a deadly combination, and leaves you wanting more! Then i had the brisket and my friend had the dill sausage. Absolutely amazing creations. Also the feature cocktail, smoke on the watermelon... keep that on your menu, its perfectly balances, with the sweetness and smokyness"

  • "Enjoyed another great meal here. Although the menu is small, every item I've tried has been great. Restaurant is noisy though so be prepared for that as a downside."

  • "I've been multiple times before and as always it was excellent. We were on a tight schedule as we were going to a show after but it wasn't really a concern as we had great and timely service."

  • "My new favourite lunch spot downtown but equally vibrant and delicious at dinner. Killer cocktail list and tight menu!"

  • "I recently celebrated an important anniversary with my wife at Woodwork. The experience in no way met our expectations for a great dining experience. The restaurant itself severely lacked ambiance, it is little more than a big room with desk lamps hung on the wall. The menu itself was quite limited, did not have enough options for every palate. The noise level interfered with the ability to carry on a conversation. The menu did offer some interesting dishes but more needs to be done to make Woodwork an experience vs. a dinner out."

  • "My partner and I visited Woodwork for his birthday dinner. The food was amazing but what got us was the drink menu! All of the cocktails were interesting and priced well.Their liquor wall was giant and the bartenders definitely know their drinks, they can make you almost anything! The food was delicious and it is nice that you can either share a bunch of small plates and appetizers or you can enjoy your own entrees. They cater to anyone. Had an awesome time and will for sure be back soon! Thanks!!"

  • "We had a good overall experience. The general mood and atmosphere was what we expected. A little bigger food portions would have been nice. But like I mentioned, it was a good experience."

  • "I was SO excited to try out Woodwork - I had been waiting to get there for months but couldn't find the time. We were seated at the very back table next to the stack of wood for the fire burning oven. This was great for the first 5 minutes... But as the night went on it was unbearably hot (as another reviewer mentioned) and ridiculously loud. They had the front door of the restaurant open, but even so there was not enough air circulation to cool off the heat from that oven. By the time our meals arrived it was difficult to enjoy the food. We had the charcuterie and the clams - both were delicious. I had the pork shoulder and my partner had the brisket and we were both disappointed. The drink menu was wonderful."

  • "I'd heard wonderful things about Woodwork and decided to try it on a Friday evening. Simple, modern decor with friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. The deep-fried olives and hickory fries were amazing and are worth a trip for those items alone. House-made Kola was very refreshing and I enjoyed it despite not being a huge fan of star anise... The chimichurri steak & dill sausage were lovely and perfectly seasoned. Followed it up with easily one of the best lattes I've had in this city. My friend had the rice pudding for dessert and said it was great as well. Definitely worth a second go to try out interesting-looking menu items we didn't order the first time around."

  • "Just had another great dinner at Woodwork. Can not wait to get back. Will say that I missed the Stickey Toffee Pudding desert so you need to bring it back. Mac and Cheese was almost as good as my moms."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner here. Great food, great service. Only downfall was that the place was unbearably warm with the wood burning fire In the kitchen."

  • "The food was tasty...a bit hard to determine what was what by the wording on the menu. I had a poached egg on my salad that was runny and not quite done inside so it affected the whole salad. Loved the pomegranate/orange sparkling soda. My husband steak was pretty good but the fries on the greasy side. Attentive and very friendly staff. Overall a unique experience and worth it to check it out."

  • "It was perfect for cocktails, very tasty & very classy. The food is always good. It s relatively expensive. Wide variety of ages. And the servers were very attentive. I would definitely recommend Woodwork :) and it's Canadian, whoohoo!"

  • "I recently took a friend to Woodwork for a birthday dinner, which the both of us had yet to try. I had read many reviews noting that the restaurant was small, but was pleasantly surprised that it was larger than I had conjured with a wonderfully relaxed ambience. Our waitress throughout the evening was knowledgeable about the menu and made sure to frequently check on us which was appreciated. My greatest woe was that my friend and I were lacking an appetite that day, we barely made a dent in the menu despite all the delectable options to choose from. The food itself was great but it took a ridiculously long time to come out after our fritters arrived, over 30 minutes. It was unfortunate but I'm willing to return to try their other dishes."

  • "Thank you to Woodwork for a nice dinner out. It was a business gathering with clients and I was so impressed that, at relatively short notice, Woodwork was able to accommodate a last minute increase of my group of 6 to a group of 8. The food was very enjoyable, and the cocktails were fun. All the clients I entertained was very impressed with the ambiance and the food. Thank you."

  • "Smoked meat was tasty, pommes frites were disappointing. Over salted, dry/cardboard. Soup of the day was excellent. Pork pie was good, pastry excellent. Kale salad was very good. Try the molasses iced tea with charred lemons, it's different and refreshing!"

  • "On first entering the restaurant we were initially put off by the heat and smoke from the open wood fire in the back. It really permeates the place. However the hostess was very understanding and quickly relocated us closer to the front door, which allowed occasional blasts of cool air and made the heat/smoke a non-issue. Our new seats also placed us directly across from the bar. The two bartenders were entertaining and the cocktails are outstanding. For bourbon fans I highly recommend the Woodwork House Sour. Menu portions are not large but tasty. I chose the pork shoulder and my wife had the house smoked salmon, both delicious If you're in downtown Edmonton do yourself a favor and check out Woodwork."

  • "I was anxious to try Woodwork as I had heard and read many good things about the restaurant. It's an interesting atmosphere , my best description, as the my title says - " Hipster meets Fine Dinning" . Minimalist, industrial surroundings offer comfortable surroundings. As seems to be the latest trend in dinning in Edmonton - an upscale retro cocktail list is presented. The menu is limited but has lots of excellent choices - basic comfort food choices with the establishment's own flair. Overall, the food and service were great and we had an enjoyable evening but I can't help think that some cocktails and menu choices are somewhat over engineered."

  • "Definitely expected more from Woodwork. Waitress was pushy.. which definitely left a sour taste when we just wanted to enjoy our meal. As for the meal itself - delicious but not worth the expense. I got the kale salad and the smoked salmon 'small plates.' The kale salad was the only thing worth the price. My boyfriend got the pork shoulder, which was considered a 'large plate,' but ended up being the same size as my smallest plate (salmon) and definitely left him hungry. I would have expected more than a piece of meat the size of a racquetball on top of some endive leaves... Regardless, it felt very casual with peoples attire, though the menu suggested otherwise with the tiny portions for a high price."

  • "This restaurant is quite interesting for an Edmonton spot... The food was very good, the service was great, but it's quite a bit noisy. Not so much so that you have to yell to be heard, but not the place to go if you want to whisper sweet nothings to each other..."

  • "The best part is the service - quick and friendly. We ordered no drinks, just water, and two sandwiches with a side salad. IMO, the lunch menu is limited. There was more meat type sandwiches, pot pie, and full size kale salad. You could choose kale salad or fries with your sandwich for about $15. The kale salad is excellent. The smoked meat was good but quite salty with spicy mustard so I almost couldn't finish and drank tons of water. My dining partner had the beef brisket and salad. I liked it but when I tried it, it was dry, however this could be due to the end pieces being drier than the middle. Also, you will find the seating very cozy, and if you don't mind overhearing conversations then give it a try."

  • "I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is amazing, the staff is top notch. The beverages are unreal also. Even the pop is made in house. Can’t get any fresher than that. I give it 15 out of 10 that is how good of a time I had there. Highly recommend to do reservations."

  • "Wonderful drinks, food was great tasting - limited selection for the non-meat eaters. Enjoyed the Chicken wings the most. Corn Bread was of note as well. Its Drafty in the place as the seem to be having ventilation issues. Front door had to be open to cool the place off a few times. It was cold enough outside it was causing an issue."

  • "We enjoyed a simple soup and sandwich lunch, which really wasn't simple at all. It was gourmet. A wonderful spot to dine."

  • "We were excited about the wood cooking concept and the place kinda looks original, but everything else was kinda disappointing. We tried 2 out of the 4 only "larger plates" and it wasn't what we expected. 1- The brisket was basically a chunk of FAT, literally no meat! maybe I was unlucky that way? The center of the brisket was cold, so we assumed it was precooked and heated up for serving 2- We ordered sausage and it was okay. We were hungry so almost anything should've tasted great ... but this wasn't the case 3- Our choice of wine by the glass was only 2 wines (1 was chilled red wine - the other was good wine but for 13$ a glass) 4- waiters seemed like they were angry? Summary: I'm glad we tried it cause but we simply won't recommend it"

  • "We had a fantastic meal at Woodwork this week. It was one of those meals where you wish you wouldn't get full so you could just keep experiencing the amazing flavours. We've already bought a gift card to Woodwork for a friend. Thanks for a great meal!!"

  • "Awesome food (steak frites and sticky toffee pudding were the highlights.) Definitely try the gin basil smash and the celery Collins! Also one of a very few places in the city that we've found monkey 47 gin, so that was a nice surprise. Great night, friendly and knowledgeable staff. Thanks!"
