  • "Bit smoky; print on menu is really small for old eyes. Chairs are really uncomfortable."

  • "Love the smell of smokey wood :) Totally Canadian vibe"

  • "The food was truly great (especially the Mac & Cheese, and the chicken drumsticks), the noise level is quite high, but then everyone is talking loudly and that adds to the energy itself. But the best part was the server - we overstayed our welcome, we knew there was another group waiting for our table but the staff was extremely patient, never rushed us, and that alone will bring me back again, and that's why I will recommend Woodworks."

  • "Food was meh, which was the general consensus from everybody in my party. My ribs felt overdone and didnt have much taste. Good beer selection and interesting drinks. Good service. Cool atmosphere. Would go back for a drink maybe but not to eat. Also, can get pretty drafty inside whenever somebody enters or exits the restaurant."

  • "Excellent food with some new menu choices. Service is efficient & friendly, without interfering in the experience with your friends."

  • "Love this place. Great environment. Close quarters but the fact that everyone was enjoying and energetic made that issue less relevant. Made sure we had the whole experience. We had no idea what to order or what some of the items were and our server Brandi had no hesitation on filling us in on what each item was all about as well as recommending some dishes that we ended up going with. Food was great ! Price is fair game, Will be coming back for all occasions; business and pleasure. Thanks!"

  • "Recently, I took my boyfriend to Woodwork for his birthday and the restaurant was amazing! The smells and the ambiance was incredible, and the food was to die for! Everything is smoked over an open wood fire, which gave the food a distinct, wonderful taste. The French inspiration that the restaurant owners are going for is definitely there and spot on. The service was great (the restaurant even complimented a dessert for us for my boyfriend's birthday). The drinks were impeccable, so fresh and unique. You can definitely tell Woodwork uses only fresh, local ingredients, which stands out among other restaurants. I would highly recommend Woodwork to everyone. Great experience. Great service. And great food."

  • "The food, service and ambiance were all great. Drinks menu was a wonderful throw back to classier times. Only complaints would be that it was very noisy because of the high ceilings and a little on the squishy side. Waitress knocked over a few things on our table while serving the table next to us (impossible not to, really)."

  • "The food was fantastic, the Celery Collins cocktail was wonderful and the service was great. My only complaint is how close the tables are together"

  • "Location, location, location! Love the space, the bar area is so cool, the high ceilings, the decor... All amazing. The food.... Disappointing. We found every dish to be rather bland, with no real wow factor. The most flavour we got all night was a side dish of mac&cheese; the primary flavour was cheese. I think we will give this place about a year and try again..."

  • "I read great reviews on yelp and expected a foodie dining scene. The restaurant was full of yuppies and quite loud, but had a good energetic vibe to it. Every dish on the menu other than a side kale salad and a cornbread appetizer was a meat dish. And by meat I mean a plate full of meat with no vegetables or sides. The appetizers was cold cut meat on a platter with no bread or crackers. I had the beef tongue which was delicious and my boyfriend was the pork shoulder which he also thoroughly enjoyed. Overall my impression was just that it was a lot of delicious meat but in large quantity. (the pork shoulder was 3-4 fists big!) As for drinks and dessert, they were excellent. My lasting impression was the need for vegetables."

  • "Ambiance was wonderful. Old school charm with a modern take. Friendly, knowledgable and fast service. The food was delicious and the cleverly named cocktails were fantastic."

  • "The bartenders at Woodwork know their stuff! I thoroughly enjoyed the variety and quality of the cocktails and enjoyed watching them craft their masterpieces. We didn't have any food but will be back because the ribs smelled amazing!"

  • "We were excited to get a reservation at Woodwork, after having read about in many social media reviews. Parking was suggested at the library across the street, which we did. Had heard about the innovative cocktails and menu, so we ordered the kale salad, the marrow bones, marinated beef tongue and steak tartare. Dessert was the peanut butter/raspberry thang. Kale salad was very tasty-more cheese please! Marrow bones is creative, but considering what it is, more bones please! There is no meat, so give me something to taste with the roasted veggies. The steak tartare-needed more flavour. We try to have this when we find it on a menu, and everyone has their spin with their ingredients, but this needed-salt? And dessert-ok."

  • "My friend and I went for dinner at Woodwork downtown on a Monday evening. We shared the steak tartare, the corn bread, and kale salad which were all may I say...super delicious! We also shared the shoulder pork confit, which I could not finish because surprisingly, I got full from having shared the previous dishes. This dinner did not break the bank at all, so anyone that would venture to Woodwork, bon appetit!"

  • "I always enjoy this place, and even at lunch it is hard to not want to have a couple of their amazing cocktails."

  • "I have been to Woodwork before and the positive experiences I've had previously made me choose it as the place to have my birthday dinner. I would highly recommend it."

  • "We went to Woodwork recently with a larger group of 8 people for dinner and drinks on a Saturday night. Overall, everything was great!! The charcuterie was to die for, and the beef tongue was heavenly! Drinks were all very good, they have a unique, diverse cocktail list and all sodas are made in-house. The only category which received a 4/5 was service, because it did take longer than we had liked to recieve our drinks on a number of occasions, which can be frustrating when out on a Saturday night! Nevertheless, this was only a minor blip on an otherwise 5/5 experience!"

  • "Went to Woodwork for lunch on a Friday afternoon, it was already full at noon which made me happy I reserved a seat. The first thing you notice is the smell of burnt birch wood, as they have a wood fire oven which they use to smoke and grill meat. Woodwork has a great cocktail menu if you are into creative cocktails. Not a very large selection of wines by the glass though. I ordered the soup to start which was great. For a main I ordered the smoked meat sandwich and was glad I did, as it was amazing. The bartender told me they smoke the meat every morning. It came with a side of hickory fries which do taste like hickory sticks potato chips. I will definitely return to try dinner here."

  • "Excellent cocktails, food is a bit heavy, service was sub-standard (aren't all "hip" places?), pleasant atmosphere, lots of daylight."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "I enjoyed my time and food and the service at Woodwork. Lovely meal, and great wood fired cooker. As they promote small and local suppliers, I was surprised that the beer selection did not include anything from Edmonton, or even Alberta."

  • "I met an old friend for a much-needed catch up over lunch. Woodwork was the perfect setting.Upon entering the odd sheet-laden entry, I saw my comrade awaiting my presence. I was greeted by both a hug from him, and a smile form our server. It was quiet, but not stark...a few tables surrounded us.Throughout lunch, our serveer was present, pleasant and assistant in helping me determine the best food option for my cleanse. My salad was dressed with just the right amount of flavour. The soft, silkiness of the poached egg worked well against the crunch of the kale. By the time I took my last bite and got ready to return to the confines of my office space, I already knew I had just created another great memory."

  • "My main reason for commenting, is that after requesting a reservation on open table for 12 noon on Open table, I was told it was fully booked, but 12;15 was available. I was still pleased becuase I had tried several times before with out any success. When our group arrived, we were surprised to see the restaurant was nearly empty. Either the booking system screwed up or a bunch of reservations failed to show up. Either way not fair to the restaurant or other customers who might not have been willing to wait. This restaurant deserves a good chance for long term success."

  • "Good selection of bottled beer. Wine prices were high. Food was so so, but overpriced for value received. Atmosphere was all right but nothing special. Overall was adequate but nothing stood out."

  • "I originally had gone to Woodwork when it first opened and hadn't been that impressed. I gave it another shot for lunch recently though and have to say I was very impressed. The food was great, especially the kale salad. The service was prompt and they have installed a door cover which cuts down on the cold breezes that made dining there last time quite unenjoyable. Glad I gave the place a second chance, I'll defiantely be going back."

  • "Great place for gathering with friends in the evening to enjoy good food with drink. Menu can be easily shared for variety. This is a great find and a wonderful addition to the growing number of independent restaurants in the city."

  • "If you like a good cocktail that is made properly and delicious food check this place out! Great location, but parking is the only downfall. Would go back again and again to try everything on the menu!"

  • "We ate here on a friend's recommendation while spending the weekend in Edmonton. The food is bursting with flavour - we especially loved the kale salad and steak tartar, and the pork shoulder was the best we'd ever eaten - I'd make the drive up just for that plate. Great service from a very knowledgable server who clearly takes pride in this new restaurant. Definitely recommend checking it out!"

  • "This would have been my second visit to Woodworks and it was just as memorable as the first time. It just seems fun and inviting. The bar is small, but there's always a lot of action going on with a consistent flow of visually appealing beverages flying out from there. The service is always very attentive. The food is fabulous. Only critique is that the pickles are not always as consistent as they could be. I also didn't care for the drizzle on the beef tongue, but put the homemade mayo that was on our charcuterie platter on it instead and it turned out terrific. I really like that the restaurant is busy sounding, but not too loud so our table could carry on conversations. Very important aspect for me! Go! It's a must try!"

  • "It was our first visit. The ambiance was great and service was very attentive. The menu has lots of variety and we could not decide what to eat. We settled on a few appetizers and a couple of sides and all of ordered our own main dish. To start off the meal we order the cured meats, french fries and the kale salad. The kale salad is amazing but the portion size for the meat and fries were lacking...very small (but tasty). Each main dish had good elements but also were over priced for the serving size. The ribs looked like they were the best deal. My daughter had the mac and cheese and it was FABULOUS! Overall, our experience was good and would go back but hope the chef's adjust the portion sizes to match the prices."

  • "Fantasic food and drinks and a wonderful night out. Will be back for sure. First impression on entering the door - incredible aromas from the kitchen. The bar with bottles stacked high on shelves the bartender has to reach via ladder is a great visual feature. Everyone in the restaurant, staff and patrons, appeared to be enjoying themselves."

  • "The ribs were super dry! The food was okay but nothing I would write home about. My friends didn't really like this place but I still gave it a go. And it was in fact very dissapointing. The service was great tho!"

  • "If you're hungry, don't order the chowder. It was tasty but the portion barely covered the bottom of the bowl. Tables are so close together that you might as well be dining with your neighbors at the next table."

  • "We appreciated the prompt service and attention. We received good explanations about the menu and drinks. The Brassica salad was a real treat. Overall, great and looking to repeat."

  • "The food was amazing. Each plate we had was absolutely delicious. Each bite of the food was satisfying and savoury. I have recommended this place to my foodie friends and they're definitely going to try out this place. From the outside, looks kinda sketchy, but inside is sooo much better. The service was great, the server was awesome, and the drinks were great. Definitely coming back here again :)"

  • "Woodwork is a hip destination with a great atmosphere. The service was attentive without being overbearing, and leant to the relaxed vibe. I'll definitely go again. The menu has suitable items for foodies, but not exceptional quality. I'd like to see more wine-by-the-glass options."

  • "When walking in it smells Devine! Bacon! They have a lot of pork on the menu. Everything we had was great. Kale salad, steak tartare, chicken drums, the charcuterie platter, and ribs. They missed one of our items and was very apologetic. They comped one of our dishes (didn't expect it) and was very nice! Not pretentious! Will definitely try it agian!"

  • "While overall my experience was good, the food wasn't good enough to make up for the level of pretension that was there; I found the food to be average for fine dining. I understand creating a menu is very personal for a chef which often makes one protective of it. However, not allowing any substitutions is absurd; even our waitress thought so. I loathe lentils & was unable to change them for any other side (incl. "hickory smoked frites") bc the chef "created the menu in a way that allows the flavours to bring each other out & will not allow changes." The charcuterie platter was bizarre compared to what I've encountered in my years of fine dining. It was 5 meats (notably made in house) & about 4 pickles w/2 sauces. No cheese or bread."

  • "Enjoyed all of my experience at this restaurant, and particularly appreciate the "all local" aspect of it. Food very carefully put together with tastes that all worked very well together."
