A word from Woodwork
WOODWORK is a collaboration between Chef Mike Scorgie and Barman Andrew Borley.


The name WOODWORK pays homage to the intersection of our passions for wood-fired cooking and barrel-aged spirits.


Located in Edmonton's historic McLeod Building at 10132-100 Street, WOODWORK is currently under construction and will be open fall 2013. Continued

  • "The restaurant was larger than I expected, rustic with a lot of class. Our server was very friendly and professional, she allowed us to sit and enjoy our drinks, it didn’t feel like we were being rushed out. the only gripe I have was the food. The food wasn't terrible but I didn’t feel like I was getting value for my money. I had the Brisket which was whole and had a lot of fat on it, I had to cut it really fine to get more than two mouthfuls. The Grits were drowning in whatever sauce they were in, I just didn’t enjoy it. I would say that this restaurant is definitely for those who can appreciate small amounts of okay tasting food, I am no “foodie” but perhaps if I were I may have enjoyed it a little more."

  • "It was our first time there and so excited to try it. We ordered the corn bread and drumsticks for apps. The bread was alright and inside the drumsticks was cold. I was hoping it would get better but when we got our main course my fiance's steak was over seasoned with salt. Which was a thousand times better than my cured salmon which I could no longer consume after one bite. It was so salty. So I ate cucumber for dinner. When it came to dessert, we decided not to take any chances with 2 disappointing coarses. Even though we never complained about the food we will not be returning and not reccomend it. Perhaps they specialize in their drinks more."

  • "This was our best "find" of the weekend. Make a reservation in advance as it is usually busy from open till close. The food was fantastic, great cocktails and our service was some of the best we received while visiting the city. It was a great evening thanks to all of the staff for everything."

  • "This was our first time at Woodwork and overall the experience was great. We ordered the smoked drumsticks as appetizer and although there wasn't much smokiness I liked the tangy BBQ sauce. Hubby and I also ordered the Mac n cheese, brisket and dill sausage to share. Since I was pregnant I asked if the sausage was made in house to avoid the nitrite and sure enough it was. The sausage was delicious, very flavorful but not overpowering taste of dill. At first Mac n cheese seemed too runny but as time went on it was just right. The brisket was also good along with the side broccoli but we weren't too fond of the grits. Waitress came over many times to check on food and refill water and tried to create conversations."

  • "We loved the decor and ambience. However as a lover of rich food especially game, we still found the food far too rich and a little bland. Clearly there needs to be a counterbalance of ingredients to cut the richness of all the dishes as well as to add some flavour. Even with strong red wine it failed to dampen the strong meaty dishes. It need a bit of stamina and a strong stomach to get through the meal. Despite this I would go here for the cocktail menu. Wine good but very expensive. Aims to be gourmet but they need to work on their dishes."

  • "Having stumbled upon this restaurant accidentally, I'm glad we made the discovery! Woodwork is a great little spot with fantastic food and a very chill but fancy ambiance. I had ordered the brisket for dinner and the rice pudding for dessert. The brisket was nice and fatty, and the pudding was delicate, not too sweet. I enjoyed being there, though I was surprised that they charged for water. Overall however, I would go again and recommend this to those who want a suggestion!"

  • "My son, who works downtown and eats out a lot, took me here for lunch. We are a family of foodies, and he is as demanding as I, if not more so. He insisted that I have a cocktail before lunch, so I did. Fortunately, I am of such an age that I will likely die before I could become an alcoholic, but if I were going to try to become one, the Gin/Basil Smash would be my route. It was divine. So were the kale salad, french fries, and pulled chicken sandwich that followed. Highly recommended. The wait staff were also perfect: respectful without being obsequious, friendly but not "chummy," and perfectly efficient. The bartender was a genius."

  • "we started with hickory fries, that were tossed in smoked butter. Can i say that is a deadly combination, and leaves you wanting more! Then i had the brisket and my friend had the dill sausage. Absolutely amazing creations. Also the feature cocktail, smoke on the watermelon... keep that on your menu, its perfectly balances, with the sweetness and smokyness"

  • "I recently celebrated an important anniversary with my wife at Woodwork. The experience in no way met our expectations for a great dining experience. The restaurant itself severely lacked ambiance, it is little more than a big room with desk lamps hung on the wall. The menu itself was quite limited, did not have enough options for every palate. The noise level interfered with the ability to carry on a conversation. The menu did offer some interesting dishes but more needs to be done to make Woodwork an experience vs. a dinner out."

  • "My partner and I visited Woodwork for his birthday dinner. The food was amazing but what got us was the drink menu! All of the cocktails were interesting and priced well.Their liquor wall was giant and the bartenders definitely know their drinks, they can make you almost anything! The food was delicious and it is nice that you can either share a bunch of small plates and appetizers or you can enjoy your own entrees. They cater to anyone. Had an awesome time and will for sure be back soon! Thanks!!"

  • "I was SO excited to try out Woodwork - I had been waiting to get there for months but couldn't find the time. We were seated at the very back table next to the stack of wood for the fire burning oven. This was great for the first 5 minutes... But as the night went on it was unbearably hot (as another reviewer mentioned) and ridiculously loud. They had the front door of the restaurant open, but even so there was not enough air circulation to cool off the heat from that oven. By the time our meals arrived it was difficult to enjoy the food. We had the charcuterie and the clams - both were delicious. I had the pork shoulder and my partner had the brisket and we were both disappointed. The drink menu was wonderful."

  • "I'd heard wonderful things about Woodwork and decided to try it on a Friday evening. Simple, modern decor with friendly and knowledgeable wait staff. The deep-fried olives and hickory fries were amazing and are worth a trip for those items alone. House-made Kola was very refreshing and I enjoyed it despite not being a huge fan of star anise... The chimichurri steak & dill sausage were lovely and perfectly seasoned. Followed it up with easily one of the best lattes I've had in this city. My friend had the rice pudding for dessert and said it was great as well. Definitely worth a second go to try out interesting-looking menu items we didn't order the first time around."

Loved the pomegranate/orange sparkling soda. My husband steak was pretty good but the fries on the greasy side. Attentive and very friendly staff. Overall a unique experience and worth it to check it out."
