Diner Reviews
  • "Perfectly fine place for a quick meal. Nothing glamorous, even if they do feature Brunello's on their wine list. Service was better than noted on other reviews. Pizza & bread were excellent & baked goods looked very appealing. Spinach salad was ok, as was their risotto. Enclosed outdoor patio in back."

  • "No gluten free menu or noting of items that are gluten free. This is unusual for that caliber of restaurant in the Bay Area."

  • "Went to the Woodside Bakery & Cafe for dinner. I have been there for lunch and breakfast a few times. Our dinner taste good and was a good value for the money The home made bread was great. The wines are a bit expensive. Corking fees if you bring your own wine is $20. The service was a but slow and the waiter never really checked on us after we were served to see how we were doing. The restaurant was pretty full, we had seating towards back, which was a bit cramped with other couples right up next to us, so not very private or intimate. Overall a good meal, would probably stick with it as a lunch or breakfast place."

  • "We have been here many times before, but this time was just a mess. We went for Father's Day and had a 10:30am reservation. We weren't seated until 11:10am and food did not arrive until close to 12:30pm. Other people left their tables without receiving their food. We were not warned it would be such a long wait. I was not offered a refill of my coffee until my food arrived. They must have booked too many reservations, accepted too many walk-ins or not hired enough staff. Just not the way to run a restaurant. I think once before we had a long wait to be seated /food as well. But, the bakery is high quality and delicious. We may consider buying desserts there in the future, but we won't be back to eat a meal."

  • "They were running over an hour late on reservations and then my daughter's food was not cooked and that was delivered 45 minutes after ordering! We asked the waitress if there was a kid's menu and she said no but then kids at other tables seemed to have kid meals cooked from off the menu. She was not helpful. I have been here before and loved it and this experience was horrible in contrast."

  • "We were excited to learn that they have a garden that started yielding vegetables and hoped that they would offer vegan alternatives in the menu. We were disappointed to see a menu that consisted of only animal flesh such as the flesh of baby animals like lamb. Can't the Chef at least leave baby animals off the menu given that he has access to a garden that yields vegetables? Since our group did not eat animals, the only choice we were left with were salads that contained cheese which the server claimed were vegan. In this day and age this restaurant should keep up with the times and offer cruelty free vegan alternatives in the menu instead of being so dependent on the flesh and milk of animals. Our salads were ok -- nothing special."

  • "The computers were down at Woodside Bakery, I know this because our waiter told us about ten times….He was completely frazzled. They should have practice runs with old school hand written tags….for just in case. He forgot our popovers…four times…finally got them after our food was delivered because I asked someone else. The food was good never the less and I'll be back but, will ask for our regular waiter who would just deliver good service and stop making excuses. A family sat down nest to us…waited for some time with no attention and walked out. Good thing the computers weren't cooking breakfast cause what we got was really good!"

  • "Didn't enjoy the experience this time. Wasn't intimate, stuffed in a corner and unfriendly, bad service. Used to enjoy the rustic feel and great smells but so many other places to try. Not sure if I will be back."

  • "We arrived before the lunch crowd hit, and so service was just wonderful! The quiche that I ordered was a generous size and quite tasty. With it, I had the soup of the day, a pureed lemon, artichoke, zucchini delight. It was the perfect note for meal. "

  • "We have had better experiences at this restaurant in the past. However, this time the food was very salty, salad greens were limp, coffee was bitter. They can do better"

  • "My friend and i ordered crab cakes to share, and a new dish(to us), quinoa with roasted root veggies, pumpkin seeds and braised kale dish. Sounds good! Crab cakes comes, two on the order and they were very tasty, but both of us remember having 3 per order here before. Hmm... Then a while later the very nice waiter brings the main dish...with nary one grain of quinoa. We ask waiter, "No quinoa at all this week" is reply, with poor guy all apologetic. Huh?! We send it back. No offer of extra app while we wait, no courtesy discount...nada. Then on way out, we ask a different server how many crab cakes come in an order, and the answer is "three". We will skip it giving another try since has happened before."

  • "This is our favorite to go to with the kids if we dont want to cook on a saturday. The food (from salad, to rib eye) is really good and the pizzas are really yummy too. More italian style. Its relaxed, nice patio. "

  • "First of all, I've been to Woodside Bakery several times before and have been very happy with it. However, this visit was a disaster. We were seated promptly but had to wait over 15 minutes before I waved down a waiter to get us some coffee. The table next to us was seated 5 minutes after we arrived and they were starting on their breakfast before we got our coffee. The waiter stated that our waiter hadn't arrived yet, but he would take our order. One would think that they wouldn't seat us at a table where there wasn't a waiter assigned. The Belgian waffle arrived with no whipped cream. My sauteed potatoes had no seasoning. Waiter said they looked dry to him. Our check arrived but belonged to the table next to us. What can I say?"

  • "I realize Woodside has few restaurants, but instead of seeing this as an opportunity, the Woodside Cafe and Bakery has chosen banality. The service is fine, so let's get that out of the way. The food is just so overpriced and so underwhelming that I was almost driven to depart mid-meal, but hung in there as our waiter was doing his best with a bad hand. Let's see soup special, a potato soup, I think, was over seasoned and over starchy to the point f being more gruel than soup. The turkey pot pie, a house specialty was a watery, cream-like soup with little veg and tiny pieces of turkey topped by a puff pastry cap that was baked separately and placed over the soup. No savory pie with chunks of turkey, veg and pastry. I could go on...."

  • "We were on time for our reservation but the restaurant was not. We were finally seated at a small table. One side was against a wall and one of the seats was up against the person on the next table. I asked the waitress can we have the other vacant table and she said that table was reserved for someone else. The 4 of us sat down at this table for two. Later, a waiter or manager came and said he's in a bind and needed our table and moved us to another table. That was fine as it turned out that table is for 4 people. I ordered the turkey potpie and it is basically a bowl of cream with few pieces of turkey and crunchy carrots and onions. It was bad. Our companions had the crab melt. Not much crab. We will not be returning."

  • "The Wooside Bakery is one of my favorite neighborhood spots. Having said that, I'm sorry to report that I've noticed a steady decline in service. The host stand was manned by the manager(?). He appeared to be training a new employee. We walked up to check in and waited, and waited and waited while the fellow chatted up his attractive newbie. It was as if he didn't even see us. Once we were seated a very earnest but undertrained waiter took care of us the best that he could. Let me strongly note that our evening was still lovely but the Woodside Bakery is not quite the gem it used to be."

  • "We have been to the Woodside Bakery & Cafe many times, usually for brunch. In the past the food and service have been very good. Our last experience there was disappointing. The service was not up to the usual standards. We had to ask the waiter for bread and water, and the server or kitchen lost our order. When the food finally arrived we were told that they were out of two of the items we had ordered, and they had substituted french fries for the roasted potatoes that went with our order, again because they ran out. The manager did come by and apologize for the kitchen and the service."

  • "In past visits, we sat in the patio and had a great time. However, this time we sat inside and it was stuffy, noisy, and a much worse overall experience. Food was great as always."

  • " Woodside Bakery and Cafe offers a varied menu of tasty food delivered by an attentive wait staff. It is particularly nice that on weekends diners can choose between breakfast or lunch entrees. My Mother and I enjoyed the Asian chicken salad as well as the cheeseburger and fries. The rolls that are served with the meal are terrific, as was the chocolate cake that we ordered for desert. It is advisable to have a reservation when dining at Woodside Bakery, as this is a hot spot in Woodside and the wait for a table can be long."

  • "We enjoyed our Mothers Day Brunch. The food was delicious, the only problem with the Restaurant is Parking is always a problem, but the food makes up for it and the bread and pastry's are the best"

  • "Came here for Mother's Day. Enjoyed our meal and service was excellent. Because it was so crowded it was very noisy. Also people waiting were standing right over us basically watching us eat. This probably only happened as it was a special day."

  • "We had reservations for Mother's Day brunch but they were so mobbed we had a 20minute wait. However, the staff was so pleasant and apologetic that we felt sorry for them and didn't mind the wait. The food was good and the waiter was patient and accommodating."

  • "We were nervous about sitting on the patio since it was cool and windy outside. However, it turned out that the patio was well shielded and the heating lamps worked well. We were very comfortable. The food was quite good. I would recommend this restaurant for a nice evening with friends."

  • "I frequent the Woodside Bakery and Cafe and have been disappointed the last two times I have eaten at this restaurant. Service has been slow and unprofessional. Three of the diners at my table received their entree. The waitress left making no mention when the other dinners could expect their entrees. The other entrees didn't arrive for approx. 10minutes and those served early had cold food. On the entree menu is a Quinoa dish. Since Quinoa is mentioned first, I expected the dish to be at least 50% Quinoa. When my dish arrived, it had about a tablespoon of Quinoa. While the dish tasted fine, it was not what I expected and was more like a side dish of greens."

  • "Love this place because it actually offers vegetarian dishes that are not made of cheese :-) They have a veggie special every night, depending upon what's in season. And their bread is out of this world. Coffee is fabulous. "

  • "If you can walk by the bakry display in the front and not get anything right on the spot, you are better than me. Their chocolate (and the strawberry too, when available) napoleons are ethereal, and their berry tarts are famous in the neighborhood. We ate Easter brunch there, and it was a nice mix of crowded but not crazy. The waiter was very good given how busy he was, and they food (warm spinach salad with Chicken, and Omlette) were served just right. We first ordered a warm brie appetizer, which was rich and delicious, accompanied by roasted garlic cloves and a tomato chutney. I go to this place when I want to have a nice brunch or lunch on the patio. Try it."

  • "I asked for a table away from other diners on my reservation, and got the exact opposite. Hostess tried to seat the party that came in after me while leaving me to stand at the podium with a heavy infant carrier and did not make an effort to understand me. The waiter was good, and proactive about checking for allergens. Food was reasonable. Very loud and crowded (1 pm on a workday), no space at all between tables."

  • "This is a small, busy restaurant in the heart of Woodside. At a recent brunch the food was fine (eggs benedict and pancakes) but nothing special. The waiter disappeared when we needed to pay our check and go, which was rather annoying, but the manager brought it as soon as we asked him. There are better places in the Palo Alto area, so we probably won't be hurrying back soon."

  • "The Woodside Bakery & Café is one of our "go to" places when we don't want to or don't have time to cook. The service is friendly and the food is good. The menu is not very varied, nor does it change frequently, but the "old standbys" do the trick. We often try the specials and are rarely disappointed -- they offer something different at a fair price. We live in between Palo Alto and Woodside and it is much easier to find parking here than in downtown Palo Alto. We feel very fortunate to have such a good restaurant so close by."

  • "We had heard of this place from a friend and decided to try it before we went to the Pioneer Saloon to hear a friend play. We were not expecting a lot from the "bakery", we were pleasantly surprised with all the choices and the Maitre d even offered to go to the car and get my wine I had left there. (it was raining) Can't ask for more than that. There were four of us and we all had something different, and each dish was delicious. Took dessert home, and what a great late night snack."

  • "I have dined at Woodside Bakery and Cafe many times but this was the first time for my husband and he wondered why I never brought him before. He loved it as did I. We sat on the back patio area and had a great meal. Our servicer was great and I took her advice on the Ham and Avocado Panini and was happy I did. With a choice of 4 sides, I went with their signature Spinach Mushroom soup that was delicious as well. My husband had a make your own omelet with a Banana Pancake, he thoroughly enjoyed both. We will be frequenting in more often now that he know about it!"
