Restaurant is next door to better known Restaurant so is often ovwr looked. The Bakery & Cafe name does not do it justice nor the view of front room from outside. It look like a nice coffee-tea room. However, the rest of the facility is a wonderful whote cloth restaurant with indoor and patio seating. We were seated immediately, took a while for someone to take our order but after that service was efficient. Wife had pot roast- excellent. I tried the garden plate, a mix of quinoa, kale, home grown root vegetables, served warm. It was delicious and filling.

The food was delicious and fresh. Ambiance was a little mixed, the seating is pretty tightly packed. Our waitress seemed rushed but it was a busy night. The service was satisfactory overall. I think that locals who come in more often definitely get preferential treatment at this place, but that's fine because nobody was particularly snobby. Hands down some of the best salads, wood-fired pizza, and baked goods in the area. Will come back for more pizza, house-made bread, and pie :-)

We love sitting on the patio. We have been going less often as the patio seems to be increasingly dirty and the flies are getting out of control. We do love this place and hope a little more attention is paid to cleaning it up.

Really wanted an outside table and made a reservation to support that. Was told upon arrival outside was full. Would have gone elsewhere if I had known I'd be sitting inside. Also, salad plate was hot out of the dishwasher, which wouldn't have mattered if I was sitting outside!

Have eaten at Woodside Bakery many times, but this was the 1st visit for Sunday brunch. Broad menu with lots of choices and well-executed on the ones we tried. All of the little special touches like the homemade apricot spread for the toast... The hard part was selecting! Definitely make reservations for brunch because it is very crowded.

Our first visit-went for brunch with friends. Half of us were very happy with our food - so 3 stars. Shrimp frittata & veggie scramble were good. However, one person had to send back an eggs Benedict-overdone egg, muffin not toasted so it was soggy. Another person specifically ordered a scramble w/o mushrooms & the order came full of them. Asked for Earl Grey tea & of the 4 kinds brought to the table - no Earl Grey but made due. Had to wave down waiters to get coffee, hot water & eventually the check. The tables were not full so not sure what why service was slow. We were charged for the dish that was sent back but not re-ordered. The waiter seemed to try hard & was apologetic so they may have been understaffed. May try again another time.

Had a lunch on Saturday at Woodside Bakery. Took 20 minutes to get a table that was reserved. Initial table squeezed in between two tables and uncomfortable for all parties to the left and right. We requested a change and it was dealt with very reluctantly even though there were several tables for two that were empty. We sat next to the window that was filthy. And then there was a bee in the restaurant that hovered on our food and did not seem to be an issue for the servers. Although my French omelet was delicious, I would not return to Woodside Cafe for a meal.

The food at the bakery is very good but unless you have plenty of time and don't mind waiting for your order until you've almost lost your appetite, this isn't the place to go. The servers are not only slow, they are inattentive, water glasses go unfilled, bread baskets are empty and nothing is replenished without a request,

The outside patio is full of flies. When asked to go inside to escape you are subjected to a environment of heat (not sure the a/c is turned high enough) and the clanking of dishes in the near the open kitchen. The salmon was not very fresh and had no flavor. It was drenched in a river of watery sauce with onions and potatoes. The only virtue was the good service. Being so close to the great Village Pub I am not sure how this place stays in business.

We buy pastries at the Woodside Bakery often which are great, although the coffee is average. I wouldn't recommend the restaurant for dinner. The back dining area is OK for dining, but pretty rustic. We made reservations through Open Table and requested a table in the back and were given a table between the bakery and bar area near the reception area which was noisy with lots of traffic. When we complained about the table the receptionist was rude. Don't waste your money eating dinner at this place. The ambiance in my opinion is terrible. McDonalds is better. It's a bakery, a breakfast place and possibly a lunch place. No ambiance and very noisy. We won't go back for dinner again! Try the Parkside Grille in Portola Valley

Our 1st mistake was to drive to Woodside on a Saturday from Atherton. Our 2nd mistake was to eat here. Even though the waiter seemed responsive, we waited over 65 minutes to get our food & had to ASK where it was--especially after seeing the table next to us who sat down 15 minutes ago receive their food. Also, why are there so many flies in this restaurant? Its not in the horse paddock is it? For that wait, the manager, who NEVER came over to apologize did not take off the one meal that had to be redone. Save yourself & go to Buck's.

I've been to this restaurant 3 times in the last month and enjoyed my meals - their bread is amazing. Recently though I ordered the Asian salad substituting prawns instead of the chicken and they charged me $6 extra for just 4 medium size prawns on my salad. I would think 4 prawns an even trade for the chicken so I was disappointed in what I feel was an excessive surcharge.

This is the second time that I have ordered an item on the menu and have been disappointed with the portion size. The first time I ordered the salad with grilled salmon on top and the piece of salmon was super small. This last time I ordered the tuna melt, it was not open faced but a sandwich with sourdough bread. There was barely any tuna between the two pieces of bread! Very skimpy. It would have been a much better sandwich with the right amount of tuna salad.

This was my first visit to Woodside Bakery for a meal, and it was a lot of fun. The service was excellent, and, even though one of our group of 3 was rather late in arriving, there was no pressure or stress to order or to leave once lunch was finished. The ambience was very pleasant in the outdoor setting. My salad was delicious, and as I saw other plates being served, it appeared that the presentation of food was very well done. Will definitely return for lunch and will hope to sit outdoors again. The interior seems to be rather dark and a bit crowded.

We were here April and had a bad experience re: the service, which had never happened before. I hate to say this but : the Woodside white-going to college waiters were gone. Service was severely lacking. This time service was a bit better; we did not have to wait 30 mins for our order to be taken. However the friendliness of the wait staff was not there. The food was good but the staff was not. Not sure we will be back.

We sat outside and couldn't bear the flys. And the yellow jackets. And when I asked if they had a candle or something to help with them, they had nothing. We moved inside, and I have to say the waiter was helpful. Too bad though it was a nice warm evening. Overall the food here is quite good, but the atmosphere isn't my favorite.

Perfectly fine place for a quick meal. Nothing glamorous, even if they do feature Brunello's on their wine list. Service was better than noted on other reviews. Pizza & bread were excellent & baked goods looked very appealing. Spinach salad was ok, as was their risotto. Enclosed outdoor patio in back.

Went to the Woodside Bakery & Cafe for dinner. I have been there for lunch and breakfast a few times. Our dinner taste good and was a good value for the money The home made bread was great. The wines are a bit expensive. Corking fees if you bring your own wine is $20. The service was a but slow and the waiter never really checked on us after we were served to see how we were doing. The restaurant was pretty full, we had seating towards back, which was a bit cramped with other couples right up next to us, so not very private or intimate. Overall a good meal, would probably stick with it as a lunch or breakfast place.

We have been here many times before, but this time was just a mess. We went for Father's Day and had a 10:30am reservation. We weren't seated until 11:10am and food did not arrive until close to 12:30pm. Other people left their tables without receiving their food. We were not warned it would be such a long wait. I was not offered a refill of my coffee until my food arrived. They must have booked too many reservations, accepted too many walk-ins or not hired enough staff. Just not the way to run a restaurant. I think once before we had a long wait to be seated /food as well. But, the bakery is high quality and delicious. We may consider buying desserts there in the future, but we won't be back to eat a meal.

We were excited to learn that they have a garden that started yielding vegetables and hoped that they would offer vegan alternatives in the menu. We were disappointed to see a menu that consisted of only animal flesh such as the flesh of baby animals like lamb. Can't the Chef at least leave baby animals off the menu given that he has access to a garden that yields vegetables? Since our group did not eat animals, the only choice we were left with were salads that contained cheese which the server claimed were vegan. In this day and age this restaurant should keep up with the times and offer cruelty free vegan alternatives in the menu instead of being so dependent on the flesh and milk of animals. Our salads were ok -- nothing special.

The computers were down at Woodside Bakery, I know this because our waiter told us about ten times….He was completely frazzled. They should have practice runs with old school hand written tags….for just in case. He forgot our popovers…four times…finally got them after our food was delivered because I asked someone else. The food was good never the less and I'll be back but, will ask for our regular waiter who would just deliver good service and stop making excuses. A family sat down nest to us…waited for some time with no attention and walked out. Good thing the computers weren't cooking breakfast cause what we got was really good!

My friend and i ordered crab cakes to share, and a new dish(to us), quinoa with roasted root veggies, pumpkin seeds and braised kale dish. Sounds good! Crab cakes comes, two on the order and they were very tasty, but both of us remember having 3 per order here before. Hmm... Then a while later the very nice waiter brings the main dish...with nary one grain of quinoa. We ask waiter, "No quinoa at all this week" is reply, with poor guy all apologetic. Huh?! We send it back. No offer of extra app while we wait, no courtesy discount...nada. Then on way out, we ask a different server how many crab cakes come in an order, and the answer is "three". We will skip it giving another try since has happened before.

First of all, I've been to Woodside Bakery several times before and have been very happy with it. However, this visit was a disaster. We were seated promptly but had to wait over 15 minutes before I waved down a waiter to get us some coffee. The table next to us was seated 5 minutes after we arrived and they were starting on their breakfast before we got our coffee. The waiter stated that our waiter hadn't arrived yet, but he would take our order. One would think that they wouldn't seat us at a table where there wasn't a waiter assigned. The Belgian waffle arrived with no whipped cream. My sauteed potatoes had no seasoning. Waiter said they looked dry to him. Our check arrived but belonged to the table next to us. What can I say?

We were on time for our reservation but the restaurant was not. We were finally seated at a small table. One side was against a wall and one of the seats was up against the person on the next table. I asked the waitress can we have the other vacant table and she said that table was reserved for someone else. The 4 of us sat down at this table for two. Later, a waiter or manager came and said he's in a bind and needed our table and moved us to another table. That was fine as it turned out that table is for 4 people. I ordered the turkey potpie and it is basically a bowl of cream with few pieces of turkey and crunchy carrots and onions. It was bad. Our companions had the crab melt. Not much crab. We will not be returning.

I realize Woodside has few restaurants, but instead of seeing this as an opportunity, the Woodside Cafe and Bakery has chosen banality. The service is fine, so let's get that out of the way. The food is just so overpriced and so underwhelming that I was almost driven to depart mid-meal, but hung in there as our waiter was doing his best with a bad hand. Let's see soup special, a potato soup, I think, was over seasoned and over starchy to the point f being more gruel than soup. The turkey pot pie, a house specialty was a watery, cream-like soup with little veg and tiny pieces of turkey topped by a puff pastry cap that was baked separately and placed over the soup. No savory pie with chunks of turkey, veg and pastry. I could go on....

We have been to the Woodside Bakery & Cafe many times, usually for brunch. In the past the food and service have been very good. Our last experience there was disappointing. The service was not up to the usual standards. We had to ask the waiter for bread and water, and the server or kitchen lost our order. When the food finally arrived we were told that they were out of two of the items we had ordered, and they had substituted french fries for the roasted potatoes that went with our order, again because they ran out. The manager did come by and apologize for the kitchen and the service.

The Wooside Bakery is one of my favorite neighborhood spots. Having said that, I'm sorry to report that I've noticed a steady decline in service. The host stand was manned by the manager(?). He appeared to be training a new employee. We walked up to check in and waited, and waited and waited while the fellow chatted up his attractive newbie. It was as if he didn't even see us. Once we were seated a very earnest but undertrained waiter took care of us the best that he could. Let me strongly note that our evening was still lovely but the Woodside Bakery is not quite the gem it used to be.

In past visits, we sat in the patio and had a great time. However, this time we sat inside and it was stuffy, noisy, and a much worse overall experience. Food was great as always.
