This special spot is a bucolic celebration of the best of Continental, French, Italian and — natch — Canadiana. As elegant as it is natural, Woods Restaurant serves up seasonal, sustainable local ingredients in a space that is as authentic rustic chic as the day is long. Service of Canadian- and Mediterrean-influenced dishes (like wild buttery Digby scallops with brown butter cauliflower and melt-in-your-mouth Ontario lamb burger) is languid and efficient here, under the wooden branch and raindrop chandeliers and inside the flood of natural light painting the handsome wood interior in front- and back-window strokes. And owner Bruce Woods has furnished the 80-seat St. Lawrence neighbourhood proceedings with a serious international wine and craft-brew list.Continued

  • "In selecting Woods to celebrate my husband's birthday, one criteria outweighed all others...the presence of seared Foie gras on the menu- his absolute favorite. That, and being qualified as one of top 10 best new restaurants in Toronto according to Toronto Life, my bible for all recommendations in this incredibly city with unmatched dining options. Upon arrival at the previous Colborne Lane restaurant (another one of our favorites), we were ushered to one of few tables for 2 not quite the cost table I'd requested on OT- I was happy to let it go. Adding to my annoyance was the wait for our drink orders. Many wait staff dote on one table while others go unnoticed. Seared foie was indeed the highlight. All else was good, not great."

We both fish dishes, one had the halibut with kale and farro and one had the wild salmon. When did clean healthy food taste and look so good. We were very impressed. The desserts were delicious and creatively presented."

  • "We made a reservation at Woods for a Friday night. We arrived to find our table not ready, so we were seated at the bar. Not too disappointed to enjoy a pre-dinner drink, the wait took a little longer. No worries! We were treated to a charcuterie plate, gratis, as an apology. THAT is great service. The staff was very attentive to our wait and needs, although we did not even outwardly complain. The drinks were very nice, and we found the food to be excellent. 5 star service - it wasn't perfect, but they acknowledged it and made it right, which is all you can ask for in my opinion."

  • "I have been to Woods times for different occasions and appreciate the service as well as the quality and consistency of the food. I have tried many of the dishes on their menu and whenever I go with a group the table always makes a diverse selection, so I would say they do everything well given the positive response received at the end of the night. The lamb burger with fries is my favourite and I always start off with the green organic salad. The duck breast is my second choice depending on mood and the soup topped with duck confit is always tempting."

The yellowfin tuna and the pacific cod was well done and tasty. The only food disappointment was the cheese plate for dessert - portion was too timid and not innovative enough - would have preferred more artisanal cheeses from Quebec, France and England. Loved the restaurant decor! Waiter unfortunately did not know enough about wine-pairing with meal and was not attentive enough."

  • "What a treasure Woods turned out to be. Gorgeous dining room, nice private seating near the back window, the waiter was incredibly kind and made everything taste better. The fresh breads, home-churned butter, gorgeous plating of the the dishes we ordered. Coffee and dessert were equally impressive. Very nice washrooms that are private and clean. There is a private room downstairs for a good size group as well. Go try it and become a regular while you can! "

  • "we went to Woods for my husband's birthday dinner. we enjoyed a cocktail each before the meal and they were tasty and thoughtfully made. i loved my tuna tartare app and my husband's steak tartare was also delicious. we both had fish dishes for our mains - he pickeral and me pacific cod. I though the fish was cooked well and the accompaniments were terrific (me: mushrooms; he: kale). The cheese plate was terrific - i appreciated the fact that the cheeses were at room temperature as they should be. overall a very nice meal with good service and price point was upper end but still reasonable. "

  • "This place is a great place especially for celebrations. But, skip the appetizers and go straight for the entree and dessert. For our meal, we got the Scallops to start. They were ok. Not worth the price tag in our opinion. We then got the soup, which was Sweet Potato puree with duck confit and we also got the beet salad. Both were delicious and I would highly suggest this. Next was our entree. We got the Duck and the Cod. Both were exceptional. Definitely the best part of the meal in our opinion. Both were cooked perfectly and left us wanting more. While the portion sizes are small, they are still delicious nonetheless. We then got a Raspberry something for dessert which was a great end to our meal. Definitely would come back!"

  • "This restaurant had a lot of things going for it (including a strong mention from Toronto Life), but the service was mediocre, we waited over half an hour past our reservation time to get a table and the food was very poor quality (regardless of the price, which was relatively high). The duck breast was overcooked and heavily salted with unappealing sides, and the spaghetti was tasteless with dry meatballs. The decor was quite interesting and the cocktails were good, but neither could make up for the food and service. This is the first restaurant in a long time for which I've proactively discouraged friends from attending."

  • "first courses : seared foie gras, the scallops and beet salad where very good and beautifully presented. the three fish dishes our party ordered - pickerel ,tuna and the cod where flavourful . the coices for dessert where a bit too heavy ,too many contain dairy and hardly any desert with fruit. the one dessert we shared - the Pavlova was good. great selection of wines& great service. we where happy to find that woods is a much nicer restaurant then the former - colborne lane ( although the decore remain the same) "

An updated list of Canadian artists would be better, Rita McNeil and Michael Buble didn't really suit the place."

  • "Lovely decor and friendly staff, apps came out quick and they have a separate gluten-free menu for those who may want to go that route. Mains lagged over a lunch hour that took about 30 minutes too long as a result. Considering there were about a dozen people in the restaurant, and 3 of 4 people at the table had fish, it was slow. Downside was that our expectations weren't managed or any recognition that the mains were taking so long. Reservation was for noon, we didn't get out until almost 2pm. Admittedly, the delay in service overshadowed the food in those who dined with me...I don't blame them."

  • "Woods was recommended by a friend as a great place to take our guests from New York! We all enjoyed the food, the service and friendly waiters. There was something on the menu for everyone, down to meatballs and spaghetti with a, dare I say, New York twist?!! Due to the ridiculous traffic in Toronto on Saturday, we were 50 minutes late. I called the restaurant 5 minutes before our reservation expecting to be about 20 minutes late and the receptionist pleasantly explained the table was booked for other guests at 9:00. Once we arrived we never made to feel that we were late and at no time felt they were rushing us out to get the table ready! Very professional and courteous!!"
