  • "Table for two, late on Saturday night. Fantastic. Very friendly servers (even if they forgot to top up our wine...who really cares?), fabulous, unique food in perfect portions. Nice to be able to choose appetizer size or meal size for the pastas. Superior ingredients and flavour blends. Would describe it as "Canadian Woodland Gourmet". Great ambiance with no attitude. They gave us a delicious loaf of bread to take home for breakfast the next day. Highly recommend WoodLot!"

  • "My husband and I went to Woodlot for the first time and it was wonderful in all ways! We dined outside on the lovely patio. The service was stellar and very welcoming. I am vegetarian and was thrilled by the separate vegetarian menu provided. We shared the mushroom appetizer as well as the potato and cheese croquettes. The kitchen plated the mushroom appetizer and two plates just so we did not miss the presentation! Both were delicious! Our mains were also exceptional. My husband had the ribs and I had the agnolotti and both were excellent. Desserts are worth having too! I cannot say enough about the welcoming, excellent service. The whole experience was fantastic and we will be back soon!"

  • "Service was excellent. Staff were attentive but not in any way overbearing - always there if you needed something but not there when you didn't. Made for a good romantic evening out where you don't feel too bothered and can focus on the person you're with. The food was very tasty. We both had the steak ($29) and shared polenta fries ($7) and asparagus gratin ($10). While the steak was cooked perfectly and was a very nice piece of meat I do not think I would pay $29 for it again. For that price it should come with something (it has some beautiful mushrooms on the plate, but that is it). The polenta fries were delicious, and the gratin was good as well, but I don't think really worth the price. I would go back but am not rushing to do so."

  • "This was our first trip to Toronto and as it turns out there are a number of restaurants that are closed on Monday. The Woodlot used to fall into this group, but no more. There is a separate vegetarian menu with many of the same offerings or flavors that are on the omnivore menu, the best of which is the grilled hen of the woods mushroom salad."

We also had the privilege of being the last table of the night so we were beyond treated by the chef while seated at the chef's table right in front of their open kitchen. I love the rustic & raw converted garage space for this warm, intimate and inviting place."

  • "Inventive cocktails, odd wine list. What's with the 4 oz pours anyway? Small, intelligent menu. Mains were uniformly excellent and we'd go back for those any day. Wild rice and mushroom app was outstanding. Halloumi cheese only a little less so. Cheese cake light and not too sweet. But we were there for 2 and a half hours; an hour between courses and the stretch between ordering dessert and getting it was ridiculous (30-40 minutes to slice a cake and add a dab of whipped cream? Really??). Why we'd go back anyway -- the melting piney hanger steak; home made tagliatelle; sesame and ginger infused burdock on rainbow trout seared to perfection. Just make sure you have LOTS of time to savor, cuz you'll need it."

We waited close to two hours to receive our main courses. When my friends ordered another drink at one point, the waiter rolled his eyes at them! We were stunned. I've never experienced this. We will not be recommending this place anymore!"

It was great, altho we didn't try the upstairs dining tables yet to compare. The waiter, the food, the table and seating ....all good!!! And one of us has hearing aids.....no problem, we could hear each other fine. Best part....the small but truly excellent menu "

  • "I am always impressed with the creative and wonderful tastes at Woodlot. The mushroom salad and crostini appetizers were very good. Our mains included the salmon, pork chop and duck cabbage rolls - all were excellent. We asked and our waiter receommended a nice, red wine (which we thoroughly enjoyed) which was reasonably priced - it was refreshing not to have an expensive choice pushed in our direction."

  • "Had been looking forward to dining here for months and live just down the street. Steak was great, but lacking a side for $28 is a little too downtown. Duck cabbage balls were tasty but reminiscent of cat food. Waiter was non attentive and typical. Since we didn't order starters to goose our bill and his tip we felt quickly under appreciated. Jeez, we just weren't that hungry! We were never offered another round of drinks when our food came and our wine glasses were dry, nor desert. We won't return. "

  • "Woodlot is a keeper. The food is great and INTERESTING. I like the format of having a meat and then a veg menu, but noticing that several of the items were cross-overs, almost the same recipe but modified to be veg. very cool. the "hen" mushroom dish was superb. the cheapest red wine by the glass was the best (we tried them all)! We'll definitely go back. Prices were fair. Bottled Wine list a bit unusual, didn't know many of them, and Im thinking a little pricey for unknowns. the main dining room is upstairs where they stuff about 15 tables in a space fit for 12, so expect to hear the conversations of your next-door dining "friends". Other than that, quite excellent. "

  • "We were eager to try Woodlot and were excited when he got a reservation. After ordering, our appetizers came promptly, but then we waited for over an hour for our second course to arrive. We had ordered a large gnocchi to share as a second course before our mains. Our server stopped by and said that it was on its way. After waiting another 20 minutes, we asked our server about the timing. He said that the remainder of our food was all coming at once and was not apologetic about the timing. He said it would have taken too long to have the dishes coursed out (ironically, seeing as we had been waiting so long already). He was terse and abrupt with us. While the food was good, the timing and quality of the service soured the meal. "
