  • "My first experience at Woodlot was amazing. After having just returned for my birthday dinner, I was quite underwhelmed. The food lacked the same great flavour and balance that was so evident my first visit. Gnocchi pasta poutine, not great at all. Pasta was overbooked and the jus was very bland. Savoury crepes were better, but still nothing that really spoke to me. Warm kale salad was a hit. Both mains were brought out slightly under warm as well. Service was great. Server was attentive and had great suggestios with the menu. On my last visit in January I had a brown butter butternut ravioli which was just to die for."

  • "I have dined at Woodlot on a number of occasions and always been very pleased with the food, service and overall experience - so much so that it was often somewhere we would go for celebrations, particularly given their vegetarian menu. On this occasion, however, the service was quite inadequate. It was slow and lacked seamlessness and, later, when the server asked how our food was and my companion indicated that he was not pleased with his meal, the server simply walked away without acknowledging the concern. It was not clear whether the server was not listening or did not care, but it was very strange. I contacted the restaurant by email the next day to provide some detailed feedback and received no reply. We will not be returning."

  • "I took a couple out of towners here on a Wednesday. It s busy. The smells of this place are incredible, the food delicious with something for everyone and close enough to little Italy for a nice walk after. Really great little spot!"

  • "The menu items that we ordered were poorly conceived and poorly prepared. Don't order the crepe or the duck cabbage rolls. Goat cheese croquettes should be a easy win, but they fell short as well. The kale salad was the only part of the meal that we enjoyed."

  • "The food was excellent, the service was attentive and well informed and the chef's table allowed us to watch the kitchen work all night. It wasn't particularly intimate or private, but there was wonderful energy in the place. Our group included a lactose/gluten intolerant guest and two vegetarians and all of them had a wide variety of choices for dinner. The cost for three of us was about $250.00, including glasses of wine, which is (sadly) about average for Toronto dining."

  • "Visited this restaurant on a recommendation in Now mag and we weren't disappointed. It has a friendly, classy ambiance and the best sourdough bread this side of the tracks. The mushroom starter was amazing and the onion soup was rich. I've had better gnocchi , but the trout was cooked perfectly. We finished off with the pumpkin parfait, which is to die for. Great ambiance, quite lively yet intimate."

Food was excellent...particularly the cabbage rolls with duck...and the Pumpkin Parfait was one of the best desserts I have had in a while. Noise level was low...so nice to go to a restaurant and not have to yell to your fellow diners. Service and ambiance were great....we were even given a free loaf of bread as we left."

  • "My husband and I were going out for a belated anniversary dinner, we wanted to feel cozy and enjoy some great food, but also wanted a lively atmosphere. Woodloot delivered on all those fronts. The service was attentive, the food was delicious, and we did not (for once) feel rushed through our dinner. Rather they take a slow approach, which allowed us to enjoy our drinks, take our time on the appetizer and really enjoy our mains. The atmosphere is funky and we really liked sitting upstairs right at the railing so we could overlook the action below. Our only comment would be on the wine list - was very intense, required too much reading. Would suggest having a winelist presentation that is perhaps a bit more broad-strokes."

  • "I ate at Woodlot with a group of friends. We ordered and shared several appetizers, entrées and desserts so we were able to share and taste a bit of everything. Highlights included the "ember grilled hen-o'-the-woods mushrooms", egg pappardelle, and naturally raised flat iron steak. It was a delicious meal in a beautiful setting. We all had a wonderful time."

  • "My companion - who is a member of a wine club - described the wine list as one where "you can't make a poor choice" and raved about her pork and early grey tea prune dish as well as her artichokes. My flat steak was cooked perfectly with an excellent crust and cooked exactly to my asked for rareness and my brussel sprouts were very good - but I think her choices were the winners. The service was warm, sincere, and efficient - a sign of good service is when you aren't aware at what point a finished plate has been whisked away. Look forward to going back."

  • "What a great experience! We'd been looking forward to Woodlot for a long time, and it didn't disappoint. Friendly service, great cocktails, astoundingly good food, and a wonderful ambiance made for the perfect birthday/engagement celebration dinner. Each dish was artfully presented, and had the flavor to match. The Flat Iron steak caused quite the reaction from our companions, and the Duck/Pappardelle, as one of our friends put it, "is something I'm going to crave later on." The Jerusalem artichokes and mushroom dishes were especially pleasing to my vegetarian partner, and her gnocci made for flavourful, tasty elegance. Well done, Woodlot!"

  • "The food and service was great. We shared oysters, the pappardelle for a mid course (my absolute favourite - it was crazy delicious), and the pork and sea bream. The pork was a little dry, but the seam bream was terrific. I wasn't crazy about the ambiance. Our delightful server admitted we were seated in the worst spot in the house. The tables were v close together and my elbows were practically knocking against the young guy next to me. That said, I could see how my experience would have been perfect had we had nicer neighbours. The service was polished and professional - I loved the way our server talked about the wine. He helped us choose something fabulous as well. That was highly enjoyable. I hope to come back to try more dishes"

  • "Came to The Woodlot for a double birthday dinner with my family. Food was fantastic and staff very accommodating. I'm vegan and they made me a special pasta with mushrooms that was delicious. When I could not order dessert with everyone else, they brought me some fruit jellies on the house without being asked. My family loved the gnocchi, sea bream and pumpkin pie parfaits that they ordered. The beer and wine list is large and though I did not recognize most, everyone was pleased with what they ordered. The atmosphere is nice, perfect for couples and small groups of 3-4. We left with 2 loaves of their sourdough bread, which they bake and sell on site. I will definitely be back!"

  • "Slow service. Took almost an hour for food to arrive. Wasn't given an explanation as to why. Server never checked up on us. Never bothered to ask if we needed to get some bread because food hasn't arrived yet. When the food finally came, we were not given utensils. We had to ask. The flat iron steak was good, but definitely not the butter squash ravioli. It tasted uncooked and it was way to sweet to be considered an entree. They should made it an dessert."

  • "Amazing little restaurant on the edge of little Italy on Palmerston, just off College St. Everything from the ambiance to the food is well cared for. Unique dishes to please every palate that vary from season to season. I've tried the following so far: The meat pie is really delicious and filling. Haddock or Halibut in a corn chowder / potato pure is amazing as well. And the spiced bread with foie gras dip is one of the best apps I've ever had. They took my reservation 3 hours before dinner, and for such a high demand space were able to accommodate an extra person at the table. Only minor gripe was the slow food delivery but we almost didn't notice during drinks and conversation."

  • "Came with a group to celebrate my birthday. We were a bit late but it was no problem and our table was waiting. We were greeted and got water right away, but getting our drinks and some bread took quite a while...I think maybe they were waiting for our latecomers to arrive. The bread is made there and was delicious. The starters were quick to arrive, mains took a bit longer but were so incredible it was well worth it! A great vibe and very kind staff, cool but tiny bathrooms. A perfect place for a date or special dinner. The wine list began at 50$, but we liked what we got. The chefs all smiled and yelled goodbye from the kitchen as we left which was cute!"

  • "After reading about this restaurant in Toronto Life, we put up with the three week waiting list for the first available table at a reasonable time (a Thursday night at 7:15). We spent $75 for dishes which we shared which we honestly could have made better at home. The ghnocci was completely overcooked mush, and the kale salad was boring. Not only was the food mediocre but I felt like I was in a factory as every time a server talked to another table I overheard them asking the clients to politely leave. This was maybe 10-15 minutes after they had finished their meal! There was no music and the servers walked around filling up your water glass after every sip like some cheap restaurant that is trying to make you get more full faster."

  • "After all the good reviews, we didn't leave smiling. My daughters birthday and while the food was tasty, it was lacking in fresh raw salads, none except a kale salad that was cooked with sauerkraut. Don't know a resto that doesn't offer mixed greens salad. We arrived at 630 and our main course arrived at 820. Appetizers were served promptly so this was loooong! Something went wrong. A soft apology given at the end. Table not cleared between courses, overall way too casual on service which is out of balance for a $285 dinner for 4 . Sorry but won't recommend even though they have two menus, one for veggies."
