Diner Reviews
  • "The food and service are simply outstanding--this is what you're paying for and it's well worth it. Be prepared for a louder environment, though, as the restaurant is a very open space and packs the tables in. It's understandable given the demand."

  • "Menu was local and a nice selection but somewhat uninspiring. Many dishes needed more seasoning and the pop of an acid to brighten and add complexity to the flavors. Service is always a certain degree of miss.... we were served our appetizers before we even got our cocktails and had to remind our server that we had not gotten them. I have been there many times and have found the same sluggish service every time. I would not make this a favorite of mine.. but my son wanted to try it again. There are much better restaurants if you're looking for good to great food in Baltimore."

  • "We go to Woodberry fairly often, I would say once or twice a season to get a taste of summer, fall, winter and spring. This time we went to celebrate a 25th birthday. The food was great, the server was ok- he was constantly coming over to the table and interrupting conversation and when he did so he did it in an arrogant, snide way. It was weird. Other than that, it was great!"

  • "Phasing out citrus we were told. I don't understand why. For the price tag, dinner for 6, including tip, $400, it is pricey. It is perfect for "foodies"."

  • "Our first time at Woodberry Kitchen. Our server was perhaps over attentative to start then somewhat absent towards the end. Highlights included the beauitful ex-industrial neighborhood and the wonderful ambience in the restaurant. We loved our appetizer (squash blossoms) but found the vegetarian pasta (we specifically went on 'meatless Monday' as we are vegetarian) to be pasta heavy and vegetable light. While the pasta was very flavorful, I think we were expecting more of a veggie-extravaganza for the meal price."

  • "I've been to woodberry kitchen multiple times and I've never had a poor experience. The food is always great and the atmosphere is amazing. If you haven't gone then go. You won't regret it."

  • "This was my second time at Woodberry, but my first time going for brunch. I loved everything that was brought out! Between three of us, we had the Anaheim Pepper Sausage, the Cast Iron Blood Sausage, and Gold Potato Hash Brown as well as Pickled Eggs and the Butter Milk Sherbet. Everything was wonderful and flavorful. The portions were just right! Service was great! I highly recommend Woodberry for brunch if you've only come for dinner!"

  • "Very enjoyable morning celebrating a special birthday."

  • "My 81 year old dad wanted to go here for his birthday- he'd read about it and thought it sounded nice! He enjoyed his birthday dinner and recommended it to me. Keep in mind his usual meal comes from the freezer... but I made a reservation anyway for the next time we came to Baltimore to visit him. We have been to the finest restaurants living in NYC for the past 16 years, and traveling all over the world. And we were so happy to discover that Woodberry Kitchen ranks up there. The renovated mill setting is terrific, the menu changes daily and offers unique twists on every dish, the service was attentive but not intrusive. The sommelier helped choose the perfect wine and the four of us enjoyed every bite. Looking forward to next time!"

  • "The ambiance of the restaurant and surrounding area was excellent: both outdoor and indoor seating areas were cozy and inviting. The service was good: attentive without being around too often. The one thing that was a bit disappointing was the food. We went in with high expectations, having heard that it's a great area farm to table restaurant. It was good but lacked the unique flavors I would expect given its reputation and price. I had a pasta dish with veggies, and was excited that it featured fennel as this can be hard to find, but it seemed to be overcooked and so had lost most of its flavor. The main flavor of the dish was saltiness and butter, so it got boring as each bite tasted the same. Good menu, not so good execution."

  • "Excellent food at the Woodberry Kitchen. However the drink prices are very steep. Our sever was super nice, but rarely seen. It is very noisy and seating is super close. Our Anniversary dinner reservation would have been romantic if the table given would have been more secluded or offered us outdoor seating where the noise level would probably been different outside. If you want romance, this may not be the place for you."

  • "Wine list is pretty good and the food is spectacular. We had to make a show so were disappointed not to be able to linger over yet another dish and dessert. Keep it up--the menu using so much fresh local produce and meats is absolutely wonderful."

  • "While Woodberry Kitchen has a great location and the wait staff is good, the food is just OK. Not worth the price. Clearly popular because people think it is the "in" place to go, but personally, would not go back."

  • "Very good food; served Very late -- 1 hour + from time of order; disinterested/disengaged/non communicative waitress; lovely setting; too pricey/overrated for the caliber of service received. Very friendly and fast valet service No citrus served???"

  • "We had this place on our list for several years and regret not going sooner. The atmosphere is very cool. We started with a Pinot Gris suggested by our waiter. LOVED IT! We ordered the crab dip and mac and cheese for apps. The mac and cheese with "snake oil" a big hit, the crab dip was the winner!. We had the flat bread, Sausage w/veggies, Flat iron steak w/ au gratin potatoes, fish and chips. My husband tried a bite of everthing and said the steak was the winner. But there where no loosers. Dessert we shared - was the berry cobbler with ice cream and the sundae thing (CSP?) that was over the top great. We look forward to returning - and sooner than the several years we waited. MAKE A RESERVATION!"

  • "I've eaten at Woodberry several times with different family and friends. The food is always creative and delicious! It's a NYC type of place...tables close together so pretty noisy and fun. Also really inventive cocktails that are a must to try! The food is locally sourced so if this is important to you it's a great place to try....I give it 5 stars!"

  • "Decided to try this as my best friend from Colorado came to visit us in Baltimore. I wanted to find an eclectic place for a devout foodie, and this was it. The actual ambience and physical look of the place is stunning, and the staff fits in with it perfectly (very nice too). The menu was amazing, and one could call it glorified gourmet farm food (considering the sustainable-farming efforts of the restaurant). Definitely a must, and go at night because the place, outside and inside, really lights up! This is a must if you want great dining in Baltimore."

  • "We had a great time with friends. We had a 3 course dinner for a reasonable price. The server took us on an imaginary journey through many dishes she explained. She knew the menu and described it with passion."

  • "I love how well Woodberry helps their guests celebrate special occasions. Instead of embarrassing their guests, they honor them."

  • "Outstanding crab cake, attentive service, disappointing tiny table for two, and no lemons! available in the bar to make a Tom Collins! Rather dry burger, but fabulous French fries and great macaroni and cheese!"

  • "I live going back to Woodberry over and over! I always take my out of town guests here, but also love to go with local friends! The menu is always fantastic and the staff is always gracious and kind. Such a bustling and fun atmosphere!"

  • "While the food was delicious, I was most impressed by the attentive wait staff. My wife and I both had the spring vegetable soup - I think I'll pass on it next time. While made well, I found it to be too light and bland. This is a soup I would make for myself if I was recovering from the flu - nothing exciting. My wife also had the steak tartare and it was delicious! I had the buttermilk fried soft shell crab, and while I'm not normally a fan, I thought I would try it here since it is a nicer restaurant with presumably better food - I was glad I got it. It's the only soft shell crab I've ever liked and I would get it again. Neither of us were fond of the "Good Intentions," the name says it all. I would compare it to a glass of perfume."

  • "Very good experience, I would go again and feel comfortable bringing family and friends for an up-scale experience. It is pricey but you could argue that you pay for quality. Roasted snap-peas served as an appetizer and eaten like you would edamame were excellent, the sauce on the peas really complimented their sweetness. Main dining room is very loud, it convinced us to accept the offer of an outdoor table even though the evening was a bit muggy."

  • "food as always was excellent, as was the service outdoors on a sometimes rainy night. Wine list is a bit pricey--our $48 dollar bottle, a mix from Chile and about the cheapest on the wine list, was boring and disappointing. You should be able to get a decent wine for $48. Judging from wines I know on the wine list, the mark up seems to be about 3 to 1 based on what you would pay in a decent wine store or at Eddie's. It would be good if Woodberry added a few interesting medium-priced wines to the list."

  • "My wife and I drove in from the DC area to celebrate our 34th wedding anniversary. When we first walked in, my wife was taken back by the noise level in the front room. We started with the wood fired peas. They were wonderful and the bread was outstanding. The server overhead my wife and talking about looking for gluten free choices, and she brought us gluten free bread, and the gluten free menu. We had the crab pot which I highly recommend followed by heirloom tomatoes on toast which was fantastic. My wife had the house made sausage and I had the scallops. Both were great. My only note on the scallops is that they were served over corn, which was really chewy. We ended with the rhubarb and raspberry pie which rocked."

  • "Every time I come here I am impressed. This restaurant has broken me of my "I don't like those" food preferences I've had since I was a kid. I used to be a picky eater but now I never order the same thing twice."

  • "The wait time between courses was just too slow, we waited a LONG time for even our drinks, then for our appetizer and then again for dinner. Made me wonder why we had to make reservations 2 months ahead of time when I could have just gone to Birrotecca or Brewers Art and had great food, service and no dragged out night of food."

  • "Service was excellent. Waiter was very knowledgeable of all aspects of the menu. answered all our questions. Food was very good. Appetizer came out very quickly. Crab pot was excellent. Entrees took a little long to come out. We had Rockfish and Scallops, both were were excellent. Gave my wife special birthday dessert was nice touch. Not sure where we would park w/o valet."

  • "Ambience, service, uniqueness, overall quality of everything was top notch. Baltimore has a lot of great restaurants, this one tops the list in my opinion. I enjoyed the sausage and peppers along with two manhampden Martinis. The flavores of the sausage and peppers were fantastic. The manhampden was extremely well balanced but packed quite the punch. Our bartender was fantastic"

  • "This place is nothing short of amazing, the food is great and the service was great. The only reason I don't give 5 stars is due to the wait. I made a reservation 5 days ahead of time for 9pm. Me and my date arrived around 830 and happily waited outside, in the waiting area they have a bartender that will get drinks for you and appetizers. The bar tender never came over to greet us even though we wanted drinks and trying to get his attention was impossible. We also waiting until 9:20 for our table which was a little annoying since the reservation was for 9. Over all though, amazing place. Amazing food and atmosphere. Highly recommend everyone to check it out. A little on the pricey side though."

  • "Our dinner was the best in a maker tradition. From the soft shell crab to the hand crafted mead, Woodberry Kitchen showed the best of Maryland. In that same maker tradition, I felt like I was in a factory. Twenty minutes from being seated to the first request for cocktails. Lots of noise and energy but little attention to the guests."

  • "Woodberry Kitchen: outstanding! Do: 1. request a patio table - delightful breeze, quiet, private. Careful inside, it's very noisy/ 2. request gluten-free - separate menu, fantastic bread, butter and biscuits and they are knowledgeable about what celiacs need to have a successful dining experience. 3. food - really outstanding across all menu categories. Unusual things that we wouldn't cook at home like the crab pot. Attention to detail throughout, servers really helpful although we had to change our bread to gf and they forgot to bring my muffin back for me to take home. 4. Really charming area of Baltimore, on the subway line that is easy to get to and relaxing compared with the chain-restaurant hustle/bustle of the harbor."

  • "My husband and I dined there on a Thursday evening to celebrate our 49th Wedding Anniversary. We were in a side dining room where the noise level was acceptable...much quieter than the main room...and we were glad of that. Overall the food was great...the crabcake was one of the best I have ever had. My husband had the rockfish which also had a wonderful flavor. The veggies were good but over salted as was the vegetable soup(so salty it tasted like seawater). The dinner bread was outstanding as was the ice cream marshmallow dessert."
