Wolfgang's Steak House - Times SquareGreat foodIt is a lovely, open restaurant. We had been to Jeff Ruby's in Cincinnati the night before and found Wolfgang's very similar. Everything was awesome.
Though, the location is noisy (not quite as much as the park avenue location, though) and the ambiance has much of an upscale cafeteria. The Porter House for Two was perfectly cooked and served with delicious au jus. The Oysters and clams could not have been better. Do not miss the Wolfgang Salad.
The only down side was the schizophrenic service (didn't appear that we had any one server) and we were never presented a wine list(had to ask). For a steakhouse they also need to have a better wine by the glass selection.

It was good but not great. We generally sit at a table but my guest wanted to sit at the bar where servcie was somewhat lacking. Service at the tables has always been great. Went here before catching the NY philharmonic, its very conveniently located near the main tourist areas and would be good before a show. Had the bacon and the crab cake as an appetizer, and steak for 2 with creamed spinach and steak fries for the main. The bacon and crab cake were outstanding, definitely would recommend it. Steak for 2 was enough for 3 of us, the creamed spinach and the steak fries however were a bit disappointing. The creamed spinach was too salty, and the steak fries were good, but not spectacular for the price. Overall, the service was good, the food came promptly and these was adequate server presence throughout the meal. I had arranged for reservations prior to traveling to NYC. When we arrived at the restaurant (about 15 minutes early), we were seated immediately and did not have to wait for our table to be prepared. The wait staff was very attentive, but not overly so. They were very friendly and welcoming to my entire family (including my two teenage kids). The steaks were prepared exactly as requested and they were very flavorful and tender (like butter). The sides and desserts were also excellent. The food is off the charts. No steak like it. I highly recommend going. I would definitely go back. And plan on going back very recent.

We both ordered the Filet Mignon, one medium rare and one medium - both were cooked to perfection, and were delicious.
The place itself is very modern, with large glass windows and a huge wine rack centerpiece. It's easily found, just a minute away from Times Sq. The staff were friendly and attentive too. I'd read stories of people being scoffed at for wanting a beer instead of wine, I didn't experience any of that.
Pros: Fantastic steak. Good Location. Friendly staff.
Cons: Mediocre desserts. Be prepared to pay in the region of $45-50 for your steak. Service was excellent, and ambiance was sunny. the restaurant looks onto the birch atrium in the NY Times building,so there is more view than the street. I like that the restaurant is set below street level, yet is full of windows and so is not dark but quite light. Service was excellent -- attentive but not intrusive. Prices are on the high side, so it's best for a business lunch or a special occasion.
