Diner Reviews
  • "The Bavarian Sampler and Mountain Trout were fantastic. We had orderd a Caeser Salad and were wondering what was taking so long. All of a sudden the entrees arrived - the salad was forgotten (somehow). Other than that, a great experience"

  • "After searching Open Table, this was the only restaurant that had an open reservation... So we went. The service was somewhat slow, the food was mediocre and the check was big.. The wine was good."

  • "Great dining atmosphere. Intimate, quiet, great food."

  • "I made reservations for 6:45 a week in advance. And we were seated in the main dining area next to the waitress station, talk about clanging dishes-glasses and loud! It's not like we just should up and it was not extremely busy we should have been seated at a better location."

  • "We again enjoyed another marvelous evening with friends at Wolfgang's . Everything was terrific."
    Dined on 8/21/2014
  • "This felt like Applebee's. A wooden room, no finesse to it. The trout oscar had been prepared well in advance with a coating of bland flour and baked. The Caesar salad was whole pieces of romaine, one anchovie on the side and a thin dressing drizzled around. Store bought rolls."
    Dined on 8/15/2014
  • "We had made reservations for four; before arrival we found out that two of our party could not come because of illness. We informed the person at the door (he seemed to be a manager) and he seated us at a small table for two near the door. He seemed gruff and was not gracious in handling the change. Shortly afterwards we noticed that there were several tables that seated four people with just two people sittng there. This situation did not change while we had our meal. This seems unfair. The appetizer was good but the entree was average. We give a three star because of the reception and seating."

  • "This Highland's gem continues to be a must visit stop when we are in the area. The food is always perfect and the service first rate. A varied menu always provides many temptations but I would go just for the Bavarian Sampler."
    Dined on 8/14/2014
  • "There were 6 of us having dinner there on August 11. Everything was delicious! The service was great and the atmosphere was very pleasant. It was not noisy, but lively enough. I look forward to eating there again next time we are in Highlands."

  • "Highly professional and ambience rate outstanding!"

  • "Great food and atmosphere and good location. Service was very pleasant but a little slow. When we asked for more time to review the menu we thought we had been forgotton. Looking forward to dining here again."

  • "Absolutely outstanding as always - over the past 13 years!! We go four or five times a year."
    Dined on 8/4/2014
  • "Wide ranging menu of mostly continental dishes with some southern flair. Started with 2 martinis which were very good. We had a good blue cheese wedge salad. Trout meunière was very large portion and overcooked and thus dry. One short rib with potatoes and collard greens was also a very large portion. Tasted good but heavy and more of a winter dish. Layout of place is odd with many connected rooms. Felt like we were in Siberia. While our server aimed to please the layout impacted service as the server was working more than one room. Overall it was ok , but nothing really memorable either . They could do better with a smaller tighter focused menu with greater focus on food quality than quantity."

  • "While the food is terrific, prepared very well...and the ambience is clean and inviting, the service at Wolfgang's is the most memorable. Friendly, caring, responsive, professional, this is a well-run restaurant that serves up delectable specials (get their fresh fish of the day). Portions are huge."

  • "We chose Wolfgang's for our 30th wedding anniversary dinner, and it tuned out to be a great decision. My wife had a generous beef filet and I enjoyed beef short rib. We did not anticipate such a generous portion, but both of us requested a take home box. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meal. we mentioned that it was a special anniversary and the restaurant owner brought us a glass of Champaign and free dessert. they really knew how to make us feel special on a special day. we will be sure to go back."

  • "My wife and I were experiencing our first visit to the Highlands. Wolfgang's was by far our best dining experience. We met the owners who were very welcoming and hospitable. The most friendly and best food we had in the Highlands."

  • "My husband and I went to Highlands NC for the first time and chose this resturant based on the reviews. It was fabulous, the chef accomodated our "no Butter" requests beautifully with no loss of flavor.. He came out to greet us and to check on our meal a nice change from other resturants."

  • "Wonderful experience both food and service. We have eaten at this restaurant for over 30 years. We visited the restaurant when it was Hildegard's."

  • "The food was excellent - service very slow - ignored after being seated x 30 min on a Wed night - special nite with brother and his wife dampened by poor service"

  • "Wolfgang's is the one restaurant large enough to satisfy any dining experience. Romantic table for two in the original dining area. The pavilion or deck are suitable for groups of any size. The wine bistro is a fabulous spot with great energy-small plates, ideal for a casual gathering after a day of shopping or golfing. We started with the Kale salad, loaded with mixed greens, walnuts, diced sweet potato with a raspberry chipotle sauce. We shared the trio of lamb chops, they're so delicious and tender neither one of us wanted to share. Aaron our server was informative with the menu. My entree was the pan seered red snapper topped with crab, lobster, and shrimp. It was cooked perfectly. I would highly recommend, Wolfgang's."

  • "The chef came by & we appreciated that special attention. Lobster bisque incredible as usual !"
    Dined on 7/20/2014
  • "Outstanding service by our wait person Marie. We had the lobster bisque, wiener schnitzel, trout oscar, ny strip, caramel cream and crab louis and dishes were superb. We will return and make the restaurant a regular stop on our visits to Highlands."

  • "It was a truly pleasurable experience at Wolfgang's. There is something for everyone there...and you can experience a Bistro type area, the large dining room or as we did the outdoor area with waterfall and lovely greenery. Because we were "early" we even had a chat with Wolfgang!! We enjoyed a great bottle of wine recommended by the Wine Steward, lovely appetizers, delectable main courses, and of course decadent desserts. We truly celebrated!! And, our waiter made our time so very enjoyable... I would highly recommend Wolfgang's..."

  • "The service was outstanding and the food was great except for my wife's order of trout. It was over cooked and dry. I had the snapper and it was fabulous. We also had the escargot appetizer and it was remarkable. Except for the trout, it was a exceptional dining experience."

  • "It is a couple of years since we have been to Wolfgang's and it did not disappoint. A good varied menu, excellent tasty food and great service. It is nice to go to a restaurant that whilst busy you do not have to yell to be heard. Nice ambiance, has a buzz to it."
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "We have been here before and it was just as great as we remembered. We started off in the bistro and sampled the salmon Pizza (cannot remember the real name of this dish but it was to die for). Our service was great and wine was perfectly paired. We hope to return again and again."

  • "Ok so the only pro was the host was super sweet. The food was not great my caprese salad had sub par cheese and prosciutto not to mention they brought out red wine vinegar instead of balsamic really? My crab cake was fair but gritty."

  • "There are several fine restaurants in Highlands, NC but Wolfgang's should be on anyone's "short list" for an excellent dining experience. The food is simply wonderful and the onion soup falls into the "best I've ever had" category. Chef Wolfgang's menu is varied and uniformly well prepared. I loved the Wiener Schnitzel on this trip."

  • "The manager went overboard ensuring that we had the best table, moved furniture etc. Terrific dinner . We'll be back"

  • "Appetizers of crab cakes and cerviche were delicious. All three of us had the trout with dill sauce. Fish was fresh tasting and cooked well. Sauce was skimpy, but more was brought on request. Waitress was new and was unfamiliar with menu items. Dessert was very slow coming. Dessert coffee was tepid and undrinkable, but was removed from bill. We were not given boxed leftover food we requested. In spite of that, it is my favorite restaurant and we will return. Food quality is consistent and very good. Wine is expensive. ( $16 for a glass of house Cabernet. )"
