Diner Reviews
  • "The best food and service we experienced over our long weekend in Highlands!! very attentive."

  • "The food was excellent and we felt as very welcomed guests. Wolfgang even stopped by to greet us. Spectacular evening!"

  • "My wife ordered the crab cake and shrimp which was amazing! I ordered the special of the day spaghetti and meatballs which was mediocre. The biggest meatballs I've ever seen, but they didn't have much flavor. They never let your water glass get half empty. Great service! Overall a nice dinner. I expected my meal to be slightly better when paying $80 for dinner. As long as you stick with the crab cake and shrimp it should be worth it."

  • "We ate dinner here over the weekend and loved it. The service was excellent. They did not hoover over us to the point of being annoying but we never lacked anything. The food was tasty and the presentation was beautiful. The manager, Robby, greeted us at the door and he was a joy. You can tell when people really enjoy what they do. We had a great wine served with our meal, suggested to us by Anna Lisa. This is our favorite new restaurant."

  • "Two of my children were in town and we were able to share a delicious meal at Wolfgang's Restaurant and Wine Bistro. This was not my first time dining in the restaurant, but one of my favorites! From the moment we stepped into the restaurant we were welcomed and sat at the most perfect table next to the fire place. The staff was very attentive and the food was simply delicious! My son had the Bass on special and let us all try a piece. The flavors were superb and it was served so beautifully. Our entire meal was perfect. It was such a treat for us to get together and have a nice evening out together and enjoy great company with a beautiful setting around us. We will definitely be back!"

  • "We came for our Anniversary and so glad we did. We arrived early so we sat in the Bistro, and had apps and drinks while we socialized with a lively group of ,seemingly, frequent guests. We moved into the dining room and slowed the pace down a little. My husband loves a good steak and this one was perfect. I had the lavender Salmon. Our entire meal was wonderful. I cannot say enough about this restaurant. We will return."

  • "We were recommended to Wolfgangs and cancelled our reservation at Madison's at the Old Edwards Inn where we were staying. We were brought to the very back dining area which had zero ambiance and felt " put in a corner". The crab cake was bready and way too fishy. The steak was just a steak and nothing to brag about. Service was friendly but not amazing. We had a 7:30 reservation and we were the last to leave about 9:30. For about the last 30 minutes, even the music was turned off which didn't help since ambiance was lacking! The front of the place appears warmer and a little more charming, yet we had no idea what we were being lead to. We ate lunch the next day at Madison's and agree we would have enjoyed dinner there much more."

  • "We enjoyed the entire meal from beginning to end. The wine suggested was excellent. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. We will definitely go back."

  • "Our party of six had a great evening @ Wolfgangs. Very good food and really good affordable wine options. Worth the money!"

  • "We had asked for a table by the fireplace. We were about 15 minutes late arriving so we had given up on that, however upon learning of our arrival the manager came and lead us to one of the best tables in the house. It was in the downstairs seating area right by the fire. The food was amazing. We started with escargot and it was simply the best we've ever had. Both of our entrees were perfect. The staff was friendly and the service could not have been better. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to others looking for a wonderful evening in Highlands. Can't wait to go back in the summer and check out the outdoor seating."

  • "We have been to Wolfgang's many times and loved it every single time. Casual elegance, very comfortable and a spot where you want to stay for a while and enjoy great food and wine with friends. Wolfgang has fantastic flair in presentation and taste with his food and they have an excellent somolier to assist you with your wine selection. You can't go wrong here!"

  • "Great food. I am glad they opened back up after their winter break so we could enjoy the food during our St Valentine weekend getaway in Highlands, NC. The spicy bloody mary was wonderful."

  • "We love Wolfgangs . Mindy and Wolfgang have an excellent Staff who are very accommodating and attentive . We are frequent dinner Guests there . We love the Bistro for the ambience and the small plates. In warmer weather , we enjoy the option of dining outside or on their covered porch. Thanksgiving they have a Southern traditional menu that is always outstanding. I recommend Wolfgangs to anyone visiting Highlands and reservations!"

  • "We had had a late lunch and the hike in the mountains didn't leave us as hungry as we had hoped by the time our reservation time came around, but the menu looked fabulous! We had wine and cocktails with a tasty shrimp appetizer and bisque. It was some of the best bisque we had tried, which was unexpected in a little mountain town. The waiter was just the right level of attentive, and we left happy."

  • "Wolfgang's has something for everyone. We were a party of 10 (7 adults 3 kids ages 6-14). The wine was fantastic, great food, wonderful service. My only suggestion if you are a large group going to eat here ask to be seated in the main dining area. We were placed in their "party" or group area and while it was quite and beautiful setting, we didn't feel like we got to fully experience the ambiance of the restaurant and full bar area. The service was fabulous...you can't go wrong choosing this place for dinner."

  • "Our party of 4 would have enjoyed the dining experience more if the restaurant was not so cold. I noticed that other diners were wearing heavy sweaters or jackets. Perhaps they had been there before. I wish the man who called to confirm the reservation had told us to dress warmly, better yet - turn up the heat!!!! The food was fine/okay. Trout was perfect. But, Crab cake was lack luster. And some food was overcooked. The wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. Will try it again when we are in the area, but expected a better experience."

  • "Took my wife to Wolfgang's in Highlands, NC for our fifth anniversary. We had a fantastic time. The food was fantastic and the restaurant was very cozy and nicely decorated. Would recommend to anyone looking for a fine dining experience in the area."

  • "We had a tasty lobster shrimp bisque and short ribs. One rib was more than enough. It was covered with the best collard greens (except for the ones my bride makes) !"

  • "We were promptly seated upon arriving and were greeted immediately by our server. She was very friendly and offered the nightly specials after taking our drink orders. Upon her recommendation I tried the "house beer" actually one from the German town where Wolfgang came from. It was delicious. Having had a late lunch we opted for not having an appetizer. My dinner guest ordered the French onion soup and a Caesar salad. I ordered the single short rib with mash potatoes topped with turnip greens. It was delicious and actually too much food. I could not finish it all. Our server kept our water glasses full and checked on us several time but did not hover. I hope we get her again on our next visit."

  • "We dined on a week night since reservations can be difficult on the weekend. The main dining room was loud even though not all tables were taken. The meal was not as good as advertised and the service, while good, was slow. Probably won't visit again."

  • "Wolfgang's was recommended to us by a Highlands resident so we made reservations while we were visiting the area. We were warmly greeted at the door and shown to a lovely table in a corner of the restaurant. Our server was extremely helpful in aiding us with our dinner selections. She was very attentive but not obtrusive. Her recommendations were spot on and she made the dining experience even more enjoyable. The food was wonderfully flavored and the portions were satisfying. We had a marvelous dinner and would definitely recommend this restaurant and return again if the occasion arises."

  • "I made reservation at Wolfgangs approx. 4 weeks in advance, I requested the main dining area, by the fireplace. When we arrived at the Host Desk, He verified that I had a reservation, then proceeded to seat me in the open area, near the bar.....When I asked to be seated in the main building near the fireplace, he acted indignate. Other than this little hick up, Server Lauren was excellent, food was good. I would recommend this establishment."

  • "The experience at Wolfgang's was amazing! The service was incredible. Our server was very knowledgable, patient, and courteous. The restaurant also has a great sommelier. She helped us pick the best wine out of their notable wine list. And the food was very good. My wife had the red snapper special and I had the roast loin of lamb. Best lamb I've ever had! Great desserts too. All around a great spot in Highlands!"

  • "We have been going to Wolfgangs for about 12 years (give or take - we can't remember - ). But do remember that we have never had a bad experience or meal at this wonderful and consistent restaurant with superior food and wait staff. Hoping to return again each year For at least another 12 or more years!!!"

  • "I entertained a party of eight at Wolfgang's in late October. The food was great but the service and attention to detail from the staff did not match the food quality or the wine list. The Sommelier did not provide adequate information on the Wine Spectator 2010 “Wine of the Year”."

  • "My wife and I had dinner for the first time at Wolfgang's last year on our honeymoon and made it a priority to have dinner there on our first anniversary. The food was just as amazing as it was the first time. The host and waitstaff were great. I would recommend everything but, especially the shrimp and lobster bisque. It was out of this world. We is definitely one of our favorite places to eat. Can't wait to get back."

  • "Made reservation 10 days ahead to get table on busy leaf week- end. Have been coming to WG's for 20 years - had first time visitors wanted to be sure it was a great evening. On my open table request I asked for main dining room-which I thought was the large room behind the bar - where we have always been seated. We have never set foot in what I learned was the "main dining" room & then we got shoved in a corner in overflow room- we had curtain blowing on us from the heat vent, overlooked the parking lot & our art was the old a/c unit in the window. Fireplace was broken, candles on table unlit, took 15 min for waiter to take drink order. We almost got up and walked out. It was horrible. Ruined entire night. Wasted big bucks."

  • "We along with our guest always choose Wolfgangs for dinner. We love the appetizer menu with lamb chops and the portabela mushroom. Three of us had the Mountain Trout and agreed it was fabulous. Service was great as usual with our waiter Thomas. Also the apple strudel dessert I would highly recommend."

  • "My husband's German sausage dinner was very good and he enjoyed it. My pan seared trout offered a large portion, but was just average in flavor and preparation. The roasted potatoes were bland and the vegetable "bundle" with beans was just ok. We;ve had much better meals in the past at this Highlands mainstay restaurant so we were disappointed."

  • "A great evening. Great food, great wine. Cozy atmosphere for a cool evening. Was torn wishing for a warmer evening so we could enjoy the patio, but was so enjoying the warm cozy inside dinning. We ordered off the regular menu and were not disappointed. The food was presented simply and elegantly. Although we didn't have room for dessert, the dessert menu didn't tempt. That is the only less than positive comment I can make. Looking forward to a return trip."

  • "We have been eating at Wolfgangs for 7 years & will always recommend them. We now have friends from our home town of Knoxville, Tn when they visit here they always want to eat at Wolfgangs. I along with another couple with us ate the mountain trout Friday night it was fantastic! We three loved it & I will order it again while I'm here for the month of October. Robbie our host went out of his way to accommodate us in a private room thank you Robbie! We love Wolfgang and what he is doing for our charming town of Highlands."

  • "We both enjoyed the fabulous food at Wolfgang's. The preparation was excellent, although our selections were rather rich and the portions were large. No problem if you are hungry, or if you care to take leftovers home. Chef made the rounds later in the evening to see how everyone liked their dinners, and he seemed to take any comments seriously. Our 2 entrees were Venison and Veal medallions. The venison was outstanding - tender and flavorful. Medallions were also excellent. If you want to try an appetizer, the stuffed portabello mushroom is very good. None of the dishes were salty, which is appreciated by those of us on low salt diets. Overall, a wonderful dinner for a special occasion."

  • "Unexpected great find. Chef was from Cpommander's Palace in New Orleans - exceppent food all around. Server was good, just seemed like he was overly busy, but it was still good. We'd go back. GREAT beef ribs, Pecan crusted Shrimp, and their signature Bisque soup."
