(I had requested a special table, but no mention was made of this.) We ate outside and, unfortunately, there was very loud work being done on the street right next to the patio. Otherwise, we would have enjoyed being outside and people-watching while we ate.
Our food was outstanding! We shared an appetizer, each got a salad, shared two pizzas, and got dessert. The portions were quite large for the appetizer, salads and dessert - next time we won't get salads because it was too much food - a good problem to have! We loved our pizzas and the doughnuts were a great way to end our meal! The mussels were very good, as was the cobbler dessert. Portions are plenty large to share or to take home leftovers. Atmosphere is lively and fun. Wish they still served wine in the rustic recycled glasses rather than normal wine glasses.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMAnother Good TimeWolfgang Pucks Pizza Bar is a nice place to go for a gourmet pizza and cheap wine. They have a nice $4 wine glass special every night, which goes great with the pizzas. My wife and I always enjoy going here when we don't feel like breaking the bank. The pizzas are good, classic brick oven style, and the pastas are good too.
Priced well, good atmosphere.
Only complaint is that they got rid of the complimentary flat bread. This was a great dish to provide to the table as it gives the guests something to nibble on while they wait. The only criticism I have with this restaurant is the consistency of the food. It is not that it is good sometimes and bad others; it's that it taste different every time you go. I was not happy to see such a nice restrauant with two huge tv screens that you can see from the dining room and worse yet, from the patio. Wolfgang Puck should be the first, and many restrauants will follow, to get rid of TV's in an restaurant. Our server, although pleasant enough, did not provide any value add. I question how these folks are trained. Incredibly busy for a Tuesday night though it might have been because it was their one year anniversary. Service was a little slow but it could be explained by how busy they were. The server was very attentive but the kitchen looked like they were in the weeds. The cavatappi with goat cheese alfredo was out of this world. The pizzas looked beautiful. They came out a little cooler that we would have liked. (Pizza usually comes out so hot it burns off the top layer of epithelium in the mouth.) The crust was soft and perfect pizza should be crisp and chewy. We had chewy but no crisp. The toppings were outstanding--potato and egg for one pizza and chicken meatball for another. Since this is a PIZZA BAR by name, I hope they perfect the pizza. Everything was ah-maz-ing.. the only thing I would not order again was the chicken meatballs, they were a good chicken meatball but lacked that tastyness of a 'normal' meatball. The calzone crust was super light and almost flaky, not like most 'pizza' places... it was not greasy and loaded with delish fresh ricotta, cheese and house made sausage. The gemelli was to die for... and huge, I ate it, my friend ate it, my BF ate it twice and home and I snuck a few more bites. The patio was nice, service was good but slow.. they didnt appear that busy. The service both at the front desk and at our table has been attentive, personalized, and prompt. (Our first two visits were about a month apart. On the second visit we were seated in a booth right next to the one we occupied on the first visit. Within a minute of arriving, the manager came over and noted that we have moved from our usual table.)
The quality of materials is good--fresh & handled with respect. We had one problem with one dish; it was promptly replaced with a gracious apology. The dishes themselves are way out of the usual "pizza box". Clever combinations and quick movement to the table has made for us some very enjoyable meals.
