Diner Reviews
  • "It's always a treat to stay at the elegant Bel-Air -- fantastic accommodations and top level service -- but to dine at one of the best restaurants in the city just outside your door makes it complete. Brunch here is not to be missed, as is breakfast and any other meal. The menu is familiar but inventive, the flavors fresh and well-presented. The service is the best anywhere -- is everyone always so nice, attentive and friendly? It's pricey, that's for sure, but worth every penny. -Rob&Jeanne"

  • "Something was way off. $460+ for dinner. Really not good or fair. The food was horrible. The service was poor at best. The experience we wanted to be special wasn't."

  • "We arrived early and were seated right away. For a fine dining restaurant, the atmosphere was not too formal. The staff was friendly and our meal was very good. The chocolate hazelnut dessert was especially outstanding. My only caveat would be that the bread was not served warm, a particular bête noir of mine. When we requested that they warm it up, they did so, but I was surprised that I had to ask. The hotel is beautiful and the restaurant well worth the prices for a special occasion."

  • "By far the BEST in everything. Five Star service, Exceptionally fresh cuisine. Took a friend for her birthday dinner and absolutely loved it. AMAZING truffle menu options, octopus salad was fresh chef brought special treats out for us too :) By Far the Best experience I have ever had and will be returning back."

  • "The ambience of Bel Air Hotel is superb, and the food does not match to this status. We had French Omlette, very disappointing for 22 dollars. Salmon Salad was pretty good for 28 dollars, but the sauce was too salty and not delicate. Crab Cake was just ok... Overall, it was not the kind of food you expect at this type of place for the price also."

  • "Whether coming for lunch, dinner or tea, Wolfgang Puck at Hotel Bel-Air is always a great place to dine. It's perfect for an afternoon with friends or a romantic evening out. The food, service and atmosphere create a special getaway right near home."

  • "Ate there the other night. Service was way off. They forgot my drink, my sides and the pace was very slow. The waiter was more focused on this couple. He sounded like he was on a job interview telling them about his acting aspirations. Anyways when staying at the bel air maybe being a guest meant VIP service but this dinner was not in the wow factor like pasts ones. Took my SO for her first time and she couldn't understand what the hype was all about. This dining experience was not worthy of the Bel Air name!"

  • "Have been back here about 5 times since it reopened and its great every time.. The French bread is amazing!!!!!! That alone is a reason to come back every time. Beet salad and burger were amazing as well.... Def. will be back from time to time..."

  • "Great ambience as always. Service was also great. Food was just OK. Wiener schnitzel was nothing special - though highly recommended by server. Mango sticky rice desert was a bizarre take on the Thai version."

  • "We have typically concluded our Palm Springs holiday at this establishment. Even with an advance reservation and a request to be seated in the inside we were told that it was not available ( there were quite a few opened tables). We had to sit outside on a chilly night, under heaters and that was comfortable to say the least. The service was par at best. The food was better than the service. For a Friday evening the place was empty. Something has happened. WILL NEVER GO BACK AGAIN."

  • "You get what you pay for. The food and service was outstanding without being pretentious. The soufflé for dessert was the lightest I have ever had. Certainly worth the experience. The area of the restaurant were we sat was 'outside' but well covered and heated. However, you may wish to bring a sweater if you tend to feel the cold."

  • "I was really looking forward to this meal, but it failed to impress. The dining room is indoor/outdoo, so our seats wreaked from heat lamp propane. It was also very hot as a result and after failing to turn down a nearby heater, the waiter joked that we were just "lucky" to have the hottest table in the place. Service screwed up a few of our dishes/requests. Food was a bit bland and unmemorable. The hotel is beautiful, but just go look at the swans during the day and eat somewhere else."

  • "We so enjoyed eating in the bar with the piano music. The food is amazing, for starters we had the crab cakes that were perfectly prepared and authentic. I had the black bass with a delicious green curry sauce. We had the nicest waitress ever, who gave us great recommendations on the menu. We will be back soon!"

  • "Arrived early and had a drink in the bar: central casting had arranged for the usual LA suspects to be there (movie execs, hopeful beautiful starlets, rap artists with their bling.....but the main thing was how surprisingly unpretentious is the staff.....very, very nice! The meal was excellent and the wait staff were engaging, knowledgeable and entertaining. Yes, it is a bit pricy but life is short and we need places like this to give us nobility in the setting of our often mundane travails."

  • "We went for Dine LA last night. Had a great meal with mushroom tortelloni as a starter, short ribs for the main entree and the hazlenut bar for dessert. It was a nice evening, except we thought the service was lacking. It took the food a long time to come out between each course and we had to ask a couple of times for water as well as bread. You would think that a nice restaurant such as this, they would be much more attentive."

  • "This restaurant is calm and quiet, perfect for a meeting. Great location in Bel-Air near UCLA. We had a wonderful lunch and the service was excellent."

  • "Fantastic food, perfect service. The cooking here is delicious without being fussy or pretentious; all flavors perfectly balanced and clearly made by hands that understand excellent cooking. Dinner on the patio is magical. Couldn't ask for better. Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Los Angeles."

  • "It used to be a really good restaurant with excellent service. We had to ask for our waiters many times. One of my guest had a Martini that was too sweet, they brought him another one but charged me for both drinks... Food was average. The best part was the bread . Baguette."

  • "This was our second visit to the restaurant and we'll definitely be back soon. Just like the first time, we had an excellent meal and great service. We were lucky enough to have the same waiter as before, Obren, who was friendly and accommodating. He recommended a great French wine and a few fantastic dishes. The truffle pot pie and the tortelloni were both delicious and the pear desert melts in your mouth! The restaurant is nestled in the Bel Air Hotel grounds surrounded by beautiful gardens and streams of trickling water. It is truly a neighborhood gem!"

  • "It's always a sad thing when you have a divine time at a restaurant and then go back, hoping to repeat the experience and you don't. This time we were attended to by a waiter who seemed new…stiff and formal. The menu seemed almost the same as last year's, a little tired and mostly safe and unimaginative. The wine sommelier saved the day with her personality. All in all we were satisfied but not thrilled….an off day we presume."

  • "It better be a very special occasion, like your 100th birthday, because at these prices you can only go once! It's beautiful, it's memorable, it's spectacular and it's also crazy, when you can get great food at literally one tenth the price elsewhere. No mas."

  • "From appetizers through dessert, a superb meal with each course presented beautifully by an exceptional staff in a warm and lovely outdoor fairy tale setting. Who could ask for more!"

  • "Food too salty. Returned two dishes twice for not being cooked as requested. Other dishes not prepared as requested too but not worth sending back. The best dish was the duck. The best part was the bread and I don't usually eat bread so that is pretty sad. The dessert was okay but not spectacular. The service was pleasant. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. Would not recommend for a gourmet dining experience."

  • "We arrived early, hoping to have a nice cocktail at the bar before dinner. We installed ourselves at a corner banquette. The bar was noisy and no one greeted us. After waiting for 15 minutes I intercepted a busboy who brought us two cocktail menus and an olive tray. After waiting for another 15 minutes the busboy came back and asked us if anyone had taken our order. When we answered "no" he took our order himself. After waiting ANOTHER 15 minutes we were in danger of missing our dinner reservation and left. Clearly fearing the lost revenue, a waiter tracked us down in the dining room. Not the service we'd expected from the Bel Air after coming here for over a decade. The wait staff in the restaurant was better, but not stellar."

  • "We had a special occasion, tasting menu, designed and prepared by chef Hugo. It was a culinary delight--memorable and delicious. Each course was beautifully presented and so delightful, we could not decide which we liked the best. The service was excellent--really even beyond European service--but, without being austere. They made a really fun culinary adventure for us. In a word, magnificent!"

  • "We were looking forward to one of the best dinners ever. While everything was good, nothing was great. An overdressed pasta killed the delicate flavour of white truffles. Steak tartare was just passable. Roast duck is rich , the fish was handled poorly. We were shocked at how ordinary the food was given the whopping prices. We were thinking of staying at Hotel Belair on our next visit. However we wouldn't care to eat here every day, and there are very few other options around, at present not worth the trip."

  • "Loved everything about this dinner. Even had the signature dish of the old Spago, Weinerschnitzel. The Dover Sole and the daily Fish and Chips specials melted in our mouths and the Pastas were excellent and al dente. Can't beat the setting but I miss the old classic style of the place."
