Diner Reviews
  • "I am glad we tried Wolfdale's, but we don't need to go again. The menu was odd...fish and chips and a burger (I guess to please most of the tourist crowd) plus some other miscellaneous options, and then a nice selection of seafood dishes. Quite a mish mash of things. I suppose they are trying to be "creative" but it ended up being nothing special and our dinner was quite forgettable. But, the room was very nice and our server was very good. The bar area looked nice, so if we ever do go back I think we would just still to drinks."

  • "We dined here for our anniversary dinner. As a GF vegan, I was amazed that I had multiple menu items to choose from. My husband, who is an omnivore was similarly delighted by the choices. There is no categorizing this food, its simply gourmet and wonderful. Beautiful presentation, lovely location and a chef who cares enough to come and check on you. And a special desert for our anniversary. We will be back."

  • "Our family enjoyed Wolfdale's immensely. The smoked trout and poke cone appetizers were delicious and my wife loved the wasabi aioli for her halibut. Kevin, our waiter, did an excellent job anticipating our needs and his suggestions were spot in."

  • "This is the place for fabulous food, excellent wine list & place to treat your palate! They serve the best ahi starter. The green salad had tasty vinaigrette. We were given Miso shooters to clean our palate prior to our main course. I had the Scallops, prawns w/asparagus dish. To top off I had the strawberry rhubarb crisp just delightful. The service was excellent--The wine list is exceptional. A perfect place to treat yourself and your companions whether special occasion or not. You want to bring some $$$ but it all so worth hit. Truly a hidden gem in Tahoe City!"

  • "We got one of the two tables that face the lake. That along with great staff and amazing food made for a great experience."

  • "We drove up to Wolfdales for dinner from Reno. Since it was midweek the dining experience was excellent. It wasn't too noisy and we could actually hear each other talk. The waitstaff was good however we had to ask twice for our second glass of wind. Since there were only 3 other couples in the dining room our expectations were for a more personal experience. However, the assistant was very doting and always had our water refilled and let us know she would get us what we needed."

  • "One of the best restaurants in the US! The ambience is lovely, the menu options are great and the service is impeccable. We have been fans since they first opened at another location many years ago. Definitely a place for people who know and enjoy a high quality dining experience. Good for small groups or couples, special occasions or a nice evening out."

  • "Wolfdale's has been our favorite restaurant in North Tahoe for years. When we went this past week, we felt that the quality of the food had slipped a bit. It was good but not excellent. Service was very good. I also felt there was a bit of an odd odor, but I don't know if others felt that way. I was not going to bring up the topic. I am not as anxious to return, but am sure I will, at least one more time."

  • "Wolfdale's was fantastic. Our server was attentive and allowed us plenty of time to enjoy each course before we ordered the next. We never felt rushed. The dining room has views of Lake Tahoe and was very comfortable. The menu was creative, and the food we ordered was expertly prepared. Even the cocktails were unique. We'll definitely be going back."

  • "The night we were there, we had the wild mushroom soup which was rich, flavorful and had a surprising Japanese flavor to it. The baby greens salad was perfectly dressed and the candied pecans and dried cherries added zing. The seared prawns were in a sauce which was delectable. It was flavored with yams and other root vegetables and had a scattering of pancetta and edamame. Wonderful. The special was a delicious petrale with eggplant and red peppers; perfect in every way. We finished with the pear frangiapani tart. All in all, a wonderful meal with great service. The only thing I would add might be that there should be a somewhat wider selection of wines by the glass - especially Sonoma Valley wines. We will definitely be be back"

  • "As usual our dinner was amazing. Starting with an appetiser teaser (the best way to go if you are new to the restaurant) and ahi poke cones (yumm) then to green Thai curry and sashimi. Every morsel finished and everyone enjoyed their meal. A gem in Tahoe City!!"

  • "While the food is decent, it's expensive for what you get. Maybe that goes with the territory. And definitely not kid-friendly. If you have kids under 21, this is not the place to come. Their menu is adults, and they are not at all flexible with the menu."

  • "Very creative, well - prepared, Great presentation. Very friendly and professional wait staff. We've become regulars whenever in Tahoe."

  • "I enjoyed my sea bass entree, but my wife was not pleased with her seafood mixture. The sauce seemed heavier than prior times she had the dish, also looked like less seafood in the serving. Our general impression was that the restaurant has cut back on the food service."

  • "Every thing was great. The bartender was personable and made our drinks in a timely manner. The hostess seated us right on time. The menu and specials were presented to us in a knowledgeable way. The little extra's for valentines day such as the chocolate and message heart were great. All in all the dinner set the tone for a great valentines day weekend."

  • "Wolfdale's has been our go-to place for years, but this Valentine's Day was disappointing. There were so many tables crammed in to accommodate the special occasion that we were almost in our neighbors' laps. (Fortunately, they were very nice.) The food was erratic; my husband loved his lobster, but I wasn't as impressed by the oddly seasoned soup, over-garlicky sea bass and slightly dry flourless torte. The service was up to standard, and the ambience, although loud, was good. We always see someone we know at Wolfdale's. All in all, it was an OK but very ordinary evening, which I hope was an anomaly. I'd suggest that first time diners try it on a less-crowded occasion."

  • "the restaurant was good. The food was good, the service was great And the atmosphere was nice. The only thing I will say is that for an asian fusion restaurant, it is not as good as dragonfly in truckee."

  • "Food and service were perfect. The chef personally came to our table see how the meal was. Overall, a delightful experience. Anxious to go back during the summer months and sit on the patio, overlooking scenic Lake Tahoe. Thank you!"

  • "The food was good but lacked a little pizazz. All of the meals had an Asian influence. Hot bread was served piece meal. We had a combination appetizer for $15. The bay scallops (1 each) were very good. The house smoked trout was good but dry, pickled beets out of a can, olives, and eddame (without salt). The wine was reasonably priced but served in the wrong wine glasses. The server was ok but lacked professionalism. Overall not a fantastic experience. The price was high for what was provided. The food was good but just didn't knock our socks off. For the price we would not go back. There are many places in Tahoe worth spending your money at and this just isn't one of them."

  • "Whenever we're staying at Lake Tahoe we make it a point to dine at Wolfdale's at least once. This time we went for my husband's birthday (table of 6) and had a wonderful meal. The hamburger and fries and the Alaskan cod fish and chips were fantastic, and the small plates are so tasty you almost wish you hadn't ordered an entree. The chicken and vegetable potstickers were loved by all of us. The cocktails from the mule to the martini tasted robust and refreshing. We love the local art on the wall and the comfortable banquette tables in the main dining room."

  • "We had not been to Wolfdale's in a couple of year's and were equally impressed and delighted with the food, ambience, and overall experience. We can't wait to go again on our next visit to Tahoe."

  • "I've been dining at Wolfdale's since they first opened about 40 years ago. It remains one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. The location, overlooking Lake Tahoe can't be beat. The ambience is quietly sophisticated. As always, we started with the smoked trout appetizer. This is an absolute don't miss item. One serving for two diners works well. My ceasar salad was excellent with just enough delectable dressing and topped by an anchovy that my wife happily devoured for me. Since Wolfdale's has always been known for seafood I chose the special sea bass and was richly rewarded. The presentation, accented by thin slices of red pepper, was both attractive and appetizing. The fish was moist, tender, and done to perfection."
