Diner Reviews
  • "We've been here many times, but this visit was outstanding in every way from the service (Alyssa was terrific!), to the daily specials and the new under $30 a bottle wine list. Manager Robert was very cordial. A wonderful, relaxing lunch."

  • "We had an amazing brunch- everything we had was delicious. I always get the crab cake and chopped salad. My friend got the steak sandwich and he said it was the best he ever had!"

  • "We had a group of 8. Arrived at 6:30 PM, entree served 90-minutes later, dessert served 1 hour later. After 3 hours I asked for the manager. It took 5 minutes for the server to find him. He was not sympathetic. After 3 hours I had to go to the manager again to ask for the check and then it was an additional 10-minutes before it arrived. I was entertaining colleagues visiting our college from Europe and across the country and I was quite embarrassed. I was also not pleased with the manager who did nothing to make any amends. While the food was outstanding, I would not take colleagues there again."

  • "Food was fabulous - staff very attentive - sat out on patio - beautiful day - just a wonderful experience"

  • "I've eaten at Witherspoon Grill many times and keep coming back! The food never disappoints and the selection of entrees is fairly comprehensive; there is something for everyone. We had two vegetarians in our party and they both found plenty of choices. Eating outside is wonderful, but there can be a wait IF you don't make a reservation. The service is great - attentive but not overbearing."

  • "Even though we arrived late for our reservation we were seated immediately. No questions asked and had a fabulous meal and great service. Great wine list with excellent suggestions from bar and wait staff. Highly recommend whole fish selection. Well seasoned and great portion size for true fish lovers."

  • "Oysters are always the best around - service is fabulous - food cooked perfect everytime! Brought a couple with us that had never been there before - they we seriously impressed!"

  • "We ordered shrimp Cocktail and Caesar salad for starter. In Shrimp Cocktail, there were 6 shrimps for $16 which is about fine. Caesar salad came in a very small plate with two oily old fried toasts for $9. The breads couldn't be broken with teeth. Then we ordered 4 Filet Mignon steaks. A plate with one Filet Mignon steak in the middle and few shreds of fried onion came ($38) and without any sauce or sides. It is a crime to serve Filet Mignon dry in an empty plate. They should have some respect for steak. We ordered fries and mashed potatoes separately each for about $8. Both fries and mashed potatoes were old and reheated. I did not complain simply because my parents were my guests. I will not go there again and will not recommend it."

  • "By far one of the best restaurants in Princeton for service, ambiance, quality of food and price/value. We go here a lot and are always pleased with our experience"

  • "I have been here several times and never dissappointed. Service team is outstanding (attentive, responsive, professional and engaging) and choice of menu items gives a wide range for everyone. If I was forced to say something negative the Ceasar Salad portion is quite small for the price. The Bar is a great place to meet and the outdoor dining in downtown Princetion is one of the best. Parking is right next door which is another big plus."

  • "My go to place when entertaining in Princeton. Always great service, great food and ambiance."

  • "Witherspoon Grill is an absolute delight - downtown Princeton's non-chain version of Capital Grill, with excellent food, attentive service, and an overall well-run operation. Its price range dictates it as a special occasion destination, but well worth returning numerous times."

  • "Loved the food and the service was outstanding. Had one of the best wines ever there!"

  • "Our dining experience at Witherspoon was wonderful as always. Our server, Rachel, was extremely informative, capable but also fun. There was a small jazz group playing but conversation was still able to be had in a normal voice. The trout was moist & delicious and the lobster risotto was heavenly."

  • "First time at Witherspoon. Service was good, food came quick. Restaurant is right next next to the big parking lot, and very convenient."

  • "Visited the Witherspoon Grill for lunch to celebrate my daughter's college graduation with a few family members. A few of us ordered the fish special. The fish was very fresh and well-prepared. All of the food was delicious and everyone enjoyed their meal. One guest has some dietary restrictions and requested a special meal. The restaurant prepared his meal exactly as requested, no problem. Our server was courteous and knowledgeable. Overall, a great experience. We'll be back."

  • "The food was excellent. If I could do it all over again, I would pick another waiter. Not very nice..."

  • "Food was excellent including the sides and appetizer. The cocktails were also very good. Went on a Wednesday night at 8:00 and it was very busy...luckily we had made reservations. Service was a little slow to start, but eventually caught up. As others have posted, the noise level is very high (we choose to eat inside). The restaurant is expensive, but is probably on par with other Princeton locations of the same quality. Dinner with drinks, appetizer, and desserts...could be $200 for two people real quick. It should also be noted that the spring street parking garage is right next to the restaurant...parking couldn't have been easier. I recommend this place to others and will also come back. "

  • "We dined last Thursday night just as Reunion Week was getting underway. Service was AWESOME. Our server was knowledgeable, courteous, professional and responsive to all our requests. Food was very good but not outstanding. We enjoyed the Lobster Bisques to start...Sea Bass was excellent...lamb chops were a bit over done. The sides didn't add a thing to the entrée except pad the check. Don't waste your money. All in all a good experience...but just a little off."

  • "I live in town and go to Witherspoone Grill frequently. The other night i went with my friend and reserved a table outside on Opentable. When we got there we were told the wait would be long for an outside table and there were a number of parties ahead of us. I figured it was a nice night so he probably was right until the table next to us sat down five minutes after us and decided to sit outside....they asked their server who checked and proceeded to move them outside. What happen to the loooong list of people waiting for a table outside??? However, we were glad we had Judy.....but we just ask the host to be honest. Be honest to the customer that is all I ask!"

  • "My wife and I had a nice dinner at the Witherspoon Grill. However, it wad jazz night and the music + noise made conversation difficult. The food was very good, especially the baby back ribs. My wife felt that the lobster was slightly overcooked in her risotto. The bread pudding for dessert was fantastic."

  • "Great food and great service. Expensive but worth it."

  • "Service was excellent. Food also excellent but pricey. Liked that they had two groups of wine : an under $30 category and those over. Set in heart of Princeton with convenient garage parking next door. "

  • "I've liked certain Witherspoon Grill meals better than others, but have never been disappointed. By far my favorite thing on the menu is probably the simplest - the Witherspoon burger. It's not fancy, but delicious, as are the french fries. The service can be slow, especially in the nice weather when the patio dining is open and the wait staff seems stretched thin, but they're always courteous. "

  • "Great Place but a little pricey!!Food and service were good. Bar got a little loud. "

  • "Service did not pay attention (first time this happened at Whiterspoon). Took 20min to get the sparkling water and 25min to get the cocktails."

  • "As always, the food was good and the service was fine. Unfortunately, I'd picked the restaurant for dinner with friends I hadn't seen in ages and there was wildly overamplified live music. MUCH too loud."
    Dined on 5/6/2014
  • "The prices here are pretty steep so you'd expect both great food and service. The food was quite good except for the oysters. The service was terrible. Also not a place for groups larger than 4. Extremely hard to talk because it was so loud. I will not be making another reservation there again"

  • "Surprisingly good for kids, brought food fast, very friendly."

  • "The only reason I did not give this restaurant all five stars is the level of noise. The food and service were excellent; I had a problem with a chair, and the staff member assigned to our table went out of his way to help; but I went there with two friends and was barely able to have a (shouting) conversation. Looking around, I was wondering how this might be corrected; folding screens perhaps? The table next to ours belonged to a large (and very animated) group, and the one on the other side was occupied by a family with a small (and very cranky) baby... "
