Diner Reviews
  • "The handmade pasta is awesome. Great service. It does get a bit loud inside, though. Great dinner regardless."

  • "I am a frequent patron at Winflo. The food is great, service outstanding and the employees are super friendly. Growing up in a house built in the 20's, in Houston, I have a great appreciation for older homes. This home converted into a restaurant is a gem. Plus, I love all the oak trees in the front. If you haven't checked it out, you really should"

  • "I made this reservation 3 weeks in advance - 3 people. They even called that afternoon to confirm my reservation. Our party arrived at 2 separate times about 5 minutes apart. The first person was seated and gave an easy, accurate description of the 2nd couple. When the 2nd couple walked in less than 5 minutes later the host did not recognize that they might be the missing couple in our party, and then told them that there was no reservation under that name. They did find them a very small table almost in the bar - but for 20 minutes we sat apart until I finally walked the whole restaurant looking for them. The staff was not apologetic nor attentive. They were busy but not swamped. Hopefully this was just a one off. Food was good."

  • "Winflo is THE spot in Old West Austin. Great food, comfortable outside seating, and is it just me, or is everyone who dines here good looking? The Listening Room at Winflo is also great for live music. If you're looking for a non-pretentious hot spot in Austin, Winflo is it!"

  • "This was our first time at Winflo Osteria. It was a beautiful day, so we sat outside for lunch. It's a great patio. The food was yummy, the service was great, and it was an overall nice experience. A few things to note. The restaurant is right on a busy street, but we didn't really notice the traffic when sitting outside. Leave time to find parking. The restaurant's parking lot is super small and street parking can be tough to find."

  • "I don't know if the perfect weather we had this weekend or the fact that I came to Winflo for a date in the promising first few weeks of a budding relationship clouded my judgment at all, but this place was fabulous. We sat outside on one of the cascading patios and enjoyed the cool spring breeze and gentle hum of the outdoor atmosphere. Our server was attentive, but not annoying as sometimes is the case when you are at a restaurant. We were very pleased with the extensive wine list consisting of a multitude of authentic Italian wines and the montepulcciano was quite good. We shared a couple of pizzas, the salsiccia and the pesto. Both were delicious with the salsiccia taking first prize in my opinion. I highly recommend Winflo!"

  • "We received a gift card for a dinner out with our older kids. Decided to end Spring Break by having a nice dinner. We were very happy with Winflo. The setting was beautiful yet not too overdone....very homey and comfortable. We sat in the corner next to the window. We enjoyed looking at the art on the walls and noted that the outdoor area was really nice, on a warmer evening a good choice. The menu was not overwhelming in the selections but covered lots of different types of food. I also liked that the plates were not huge....just right...perfect amount of food actually. Really fresh and delicious, hot and beautifully presented. The wine we selected was delicious as well and our server was very attentive but not overly intrusive."

  • "We like Winflo Osteria; have had good meals there. However, Sunday brunch fell short in two ways: 1) We both ordered frittata's and both were extremely tough, dry and overcooked. Eggs get rubbery in a microwave and we suspect that was part of the preparation routine but however they achieved it, the result was less than palatable. 2) We are both gluten intolerant and, for some unknown reason, Winflo puts wheat flour in their polenta cakes (and a number of other dishes) rendering them inedible for us. Why use wheat flour in a dish that is classically made only with corn meal? If you're going to use small amount of flour as a binder, why not be considerate enough (and smart enough) to use rice flour or some other non-wheat flour? Odd....."

  • "Dinner for four. Two entrees delivered five minutes after the first two. Osso Bucco did not fall off the bone as it should. Filet was not prepared as requested (rare). Possibly a result of SXSW burnout."

  • "The restaurant is well designed and comfortable. The outdoor covered dining area is large and well laid out in two levels. Indoors there is plenty of natural light coming in from several windows and the space is finished in warm colors. The waiter was very attentive and friendly making our diner that much more memorable. The appetizer of Calamari, even though it was a very small portion of calamari rings, was well done with a tasty lemon aioli. The porchetta/pork belly was very tasty but could have been accompanied with a side of noodles. We also had the cavatelli con salsiccia and this dish was just right, plentiful and delish. To end the meal we had a very light and delish lemon cheesecake that was a perfect ending to our meal."

  • "The restaurant is 2 blocks from where my wife and I live, so I REALLY wanted to like it. They've set up a beautiful outdoor dining area, but our waiter disappeared for over 20 minutes after we'd finished our meals and after we got his attention, never returned with the boxed up leftovers of our pizza. The pizza crust was pretty far from inspired. It was disappointing."

  • "I had the pepperoni and olive pizza, and it was the best pizza I've had for a long time. The crust was freshly made and tasty, and I was impressed by how good the sauce and the cheese were. For dessert I had a berry crumble topped with a dollop of whipped cream. The crumble was fresh and not unnecessarily sweet. The restaurant is in an old house with lots of character and natural light. I will definitely be going again, and on a future visit I'll try sitting outside."

  • "Like the old Seinfeld skit, this place can take a reservation, but it doesn't know how to keep one, and its really the later that's the important part of the process. We showed up on time for a Friday evening reservation. I knew I was in trouble when the two girls behind the computer screen shot each other a series of worried glances when they looked up our table. They promised it would just be a few minutes. An hour later and multiple visits back to the hostess stand and we finally sat. After all that, the food was just ok. Nice wine list. Perhaps people are captivated by the tree outside? That was my first and last visit, too many great places in Austin to settle for mediocre food and service."

  • "Winflo is Italian with a modernist flair located in a charming bungalow in one of my favorite Austin neighborhoods, Clarksville. The inside has limited seating, but is cozy and romantic, like a country inn, but with modern bar seating thrown in. The outside patio is more casual but comfortable. Have not eaten dinner there, but lunch is wonderful and is moderately priced. The paninis are my favorite, particularly the verdure di stagione."

  • "Had a lovely meal at Winflo on Saturday evening and the wife and I truly enjoyed ourselves. We had a few hours to kill before the Symphony, so we ordered a bottle of white wine that the server suggested. We started our order by getting the cheese and meat plate, then followed it up with a couple salads and the soup of the day (a broccoli cream based soup that was heavenly). For the entree we ended up splitting the flat iron steak which was cooked exactly to our specifications and was so flavorful. The coated peppercorn crust really brought out the taste and we were both extremely satisfied by the end of the meal. Service was good, if not a little impersonal, but overall we really enjoyed our experience here and would like to try it again."

  • "Winflo Osteria was an amazing experience. Everything was to our liking. The food, though small in portion, filled us up and was sensationally delicious. Even the water was top-notch! The service was prompt and receptive. The valet parking was another big plus. I will certainly be dining here again."

  • "Expecting good Italian fare, we were served a Lasgna that was overwhelmed by the tomato sauce and little other flavor. The pasta special of the day had well prepared shrimp and pasta that was strong on the garlic and quite salty. The room is very noisy, not a good place for conversations. The Valet blocked the driveway with a car so there was no flow, brought the car around so that we had to BACK OUT on a very busy street. Great location. Needs some management."

  • "Restaurant was exceptionally busy. Made reservations on a Monday, and couldn't get in between 5:30 and 8:00. Had an 8:00 reservation, but the previous party overstayed the table, so we ended up being seated outside, which was a blessing in disguise. It's quite noisy inside (relatively small space with a lot of people in it), and outside was much quieter. Service was wonderful, wine recommendations (based on my inquiries about particular selections) by the bartender were excellent. I'm extremely difficult to please when it comes to a red sauce (I make my own from scratch), and they definitely pass muster."

  • "How convenient is to wake up the year and visit a true Osteria, with its simple but honest proposals on top of the warmness so much in need when the arctic calls. I discovered WinFlo pizza at an Italian Festa where opera singers amused the garden and visitors of the Art Museum last early fall. In the middle of an aria the classic pizza aroma started filling the air and the drama of the moment started building up high as long the queue in front of the tent was. I confess being so demanding with pizza that hardly finish any filled up with the lack of art and wasted opportunities. If it's not the crust, the sauce or the toppings.Until the WinFlo truck brought the portable oven and it started raining pizza as a true heaven product. Belle pizze!"

  • "My boyfriend and I were celebrating our anniversary, and I wanted to surprise him with a romantic place with great food. I had never been to Winflo, but the reviews and photos suggested this was the right place for the occasion. It did not disappoint, good service, great food, and nice ambiance. We will surely be back..."

  • "It was the perfect day to sit outside with a dear friend but it took 10 minutes for water. Right off, I knew I was in for disappointment. The lack of salt is something that I just cannot forgive. The salads were lackluster at best, the Caesar with cherry tomatoes on it and the dressing had no salt or garlic tang. The beet salad looked like hotel lunch fare and tasted like it too. The polenta fries were the worst part. Absolutely devoid of flavor and frankly overpriced for what they give you. The polpette, meatballs, were okay...bar far the best thing we ate for lunch but again lacking in robust juiciness, flavor, and heart. Sadly, this was my first and last experience. I only wish the food lived up to the atmosphere!"

  • "I went there to celebrate my birthday and had a great meal and drinks! The bartender made me a drink with Gin (even though I said I didn't like gin) and it was surprisingly tasty. We had the artichoke and bacon pizza and man was it flavorful. The beet was was fantastic. I look forward to going back again."

  • "My husband and I ate here Saturday night for dinner. This was our first time dining at Winflo. We both really enjoyed our food. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. When we ordered their home made Limoncello, the bartender very nicely came over and apologized that they were out and made other suggestions for us, handled perfectly. Our only complaint is, the restaurant is very loud. I think part of the problem was we just had bad luck of being there at the same time as a table of 6 and a table of 4 .... both these tables were extremely loud which made it difficult for my husband and I to even talk. If it is a nice night out, the best place to sit is outside. The bar may be a good option to be separated from the tables a bit."

  • "My wife ate here on a winter friday night, too cold for the deck seating to be open. It was packed, but we were able to get a reservation around 8 pm. Very crowded and pretty noisy, but we could still converse. Food was reasonably priced and decent, but not great. Service was good. We split a salad and a pumpkin soup that was interesting but a bit sweet. Pizza had a good crust but was heavy on the tomato sauce and light on the toppings. The calamari came out kind of cold and rubbery, like it had been sitting around awhile. The wine list was decent but it would have been nice if they offered more wines by the glass. I would like to give Winflo another try."

  • "There's very few good Italian joints in Austin... Enoteca and then the list goes down dramatically. I'd say this is up on top of that list. It's affordable as well. Everything is hand-made and it's just really great food – along with an amazing ambiance. I'll definitely be going back soon."

  • "This was by far the worst dining experience i have had in the last year. The calamari was rubbery and tastless, the fish special was dry and completely without flavor, the Lasagna tasted like it came out of a box. The atmosphere was great, it's too bad the the food did not measure up."
