Diner Reviews
  • "I tried Winegasm with a few friends and we were NOT disappointed! We had the spread sampler, truffle fries, mahi tacos and steak crostini. All were delicious and the drinks were good too! We will definitely be returning."

  • "The food was great. The Cocktails were delicious. The Wine list was also good. The staff were very friendly and the service was good. The waitor forgot one of the items we ordered but the rest of the food was so good and filling we didn't bother saying anything. It wasn't on our bill either. It's a small restaurant so there with dark lighting. It was down pouring when we went so there wasn't a lot of people. The only down side was that across the street there is construction being done so there wasn't much of a view."

  • "This place is good for a cozy place to try wines and some cheese.. Fondue for dessert is tasty but fruit, cheese and meat plate with fondue is only so so..Meat plate not recommended. Nice selection of wines and some even have choice of glass size.."

  • "Winegasm definitely lives up to its name. Although they didn't serve rabbit for the night, the food was different and well worth it. We ordered a bottle of wine and was surprisingly good. I will definitely be back!"

  • "Friendly staff, great food, dim lit & romantic. Must try the bacon wrapped prunes, I'm still dreaming of them! Would've liked just a few more items on the menu but would definitely recommend checking this place out."

  • "The food and ambiance was great. Staff was kind. The only one thing I would say is that they only had one wait staff and one person making all the tapas. If you have a party of larger than 3 your dinner may last way longer than you expect."

  • "Our recent Saturday night visit was extraordinary. My wife and I were seated quickly by the bar tender, who along with our server turned out to be more than a generous host. After some creative and well executed cocktails (the Cucumber Martini was a standout) we embarked on a flight of three wines, then ordered a bottle of a Malbec at a generous discount as part of the flight package. The menu is definitely a foodie's paradise. All of the dishes were perfectly portioned and good for sharing. We started with a selection of mediterranean dips, followed by the wild mushroom crostini and a charcuterie plate. We made it halfway through the truffle fries and a delicious lasagna before crying uncle. Ambient setting and delectable food!"

  • "I had a large group of friends join for the bday here. It was a great place for it, very accommodating, great food, great wine, the waitress was fantastic. Overall a good place to start the night!"

  • "We come here often. A great little spot in astoria. Great wine list, amazing fondue. And great service. We will keep coming back!"

  • "Have been to this place twice. They have a nice selection of wines and the food is good. Also visited once with an amazon coupon and really enjoyed the menu and service. I wasn't charged the tip upfront as other places do and appreciated it. I have to admit though that even though the atmosphere and decor are warm, this place needs to work on its heat. It is really cold... Thought the first time it was our mistake but the second time I visited the case was the same. Froze in there... If they fix this issue I could easily give them 5 stars."

  • "They had a fridge broken so they didn't have to much food, but, I had beef crostini and wine and they were delicious. I really liked the music they played there."

  • "We went here on nye, which also happened to be my boyfriend's birthday. They advertised a 5 course pre fixe menu that my boyfriend and I split. We told them we were hosting a party later that night, so we would appreciate any expedience they could give. Not only were they incredibly slow (we had only been served the first course after an hour and a half of being there), they refused to take our drink orders even when we repeatedly tried to get their attention, and we're generally unhelpful. This place is only suitable for drinks. We're we severely disappointed."

  • "This is probably one of the best winebars I've been to in the city, and certainly in Astoria. Ambiance was perfect - it looks classy and refined without being snobby. The server that was working that night was amazing - polite, quick, attentive, and pleasant all-around. The food selection is great, and prices are just right. Happy Hour specials make everything even better. The only reason I removed one star from food is because, from what I ate (mac & cheese and the bacon-wrapped prunes), both were great, but neither were anything I would rave about. Both tasted great, but there is better out there in both categories. Still, worth every penny. The drinks available were fantastic, creative, and priced reasonably."

  • "The Food was generally excellent and the service was also top notch. The truffled macaroni and cheese is delicious and the custom cocktails were great, I highly recommend the dark and stormy The hummus wasn't great but the truffled French fries were amazing! We went on a sunday night which wasn't too busy but I can see that if it were a packed house it might get a little crowded, reservations are great to have."

  • "The place is pretty and the wines were nice. I like their option for a half glass so you can try different wines. The food was not good. Fondue was bitter and did not have much of an assortment for dipping. Truffled fries were cold. Crostini was so so. I wanted the food to be so much better!!"

  • "For a place with a name like Winegasm, the list was not lengthy at all. However everything offered was reasonably-priced (nothing over $52 for red wines on my visit). Food was tapas-style and quite tasty. I loved the meatballs and the piping-fresh pita bread was a big hit. Drawbacks: My first wine choice was out-of-stock (not a good start for a wine bar) and one of our cheese choices in the charcuterie was also out-of-stock (you'd think a place would be stocked up for a Saturday night) Atmosphere was cute and filled with young, chatty locals. Quarters were a little tight inside, but quite roomy at the outside table. My quibbles are minor and I'd be happy to visit again"

  • "Our expectations were high going back to Winegasm after a year. Regrettably with the change of the chef, the restaurant has lost its flavour for us. The menu is now limited to a select few small, tapas-like and those menu items from a year ago are the same in name only. A disappointment for us but possibly good for a new set of clientele. At least that is what we got as explanation from the new chef."

  • "we chose to go to Winegasm to celebrate my birthday and it was perfect. The lighting was dim and romantic, the wine dejection was excellent as was the service and the music was perfect. I especially lived the cheese fondue plate and the steak tapas were delicious and perfectly grilled. This will be a very special memory for me always. Thank you so much."

  • "I searched for a place that had fondue and was local. The price was great, and while the fondue was a major highlight of the meal, the drinks and other dishes were delicious, unique, and definitely worth a repeat trip."

  • "Winegasm has a great selection of wines and delicious food to accompany your drinks! We ordered 4 appetizers and a bottle of wine and it was more than enough food! Lots of great choices and everything was great! Will definitely bring friends back here."

  • "Had the cheese and chocolate fondue. The cheese was so watery that none of it would stick to the items dipped into it. I had to use the bread as a sponge to absorbe as much cheese as possible. The quality of the fondue was also the worst I have ever had. Tasted like watered down cheese sauce rather than fondue. The chocolate was better although I think it was just Hersey syrup that had been heated. Sevice was pretty poor. After the initial order and serving, it took a very long time to locate our server to bring the next course. After about 20 minutes she finally came by and brought dessert. After dessert, it took about another 10 minutes to flag down our server and get the check. Would not recommend for the fondue experie"

  • "We were there very early so the place was not packed, but it was already getting busy for an early dinner bunch by 6:00. I can see where this would be a great place for young people for an after movie/theater place to have a great chocolate fondue dessert and some excellent wine while they discuss their evening."

  • "We went to Winegasm after buying a groupon for cheese & chocolate fondue, a meat plate, 2 glasses of wine, & glasses of sparkling wine. The cheese was good, if a little salty. My one suggestion would be to eliminate the 50 cent charge for additional cheese dippers. The dippers are just bread and apples, and I understand that the restaurant doesn't want people taking advantage of free refills, but what is provided on the plate isn't quite enough to get all the way through the fondue provided. Other than that VERY minor criticism, the food was very good, the wine was very good, and the staff was very friendly. Overall, maybe not a place I would go regularly for dinner, but definitely for a glass of wine and a snack."

  • "We went on a groupon Saturday night and when we first sat down the waitress came over and took our orders for wine. She then came back with 2 platters (one of meats and the other with cubed apples and bread). No sooner did I, by accident tipped my glass over and wine went all over the meat platter. It was still full because we didn't even start eating it yet and she didn't even offer to replace it. Then I had to ask her for another glass of wine. When we received our bill she charged us for the extra glass of wine. No restaurant does that. I was very surprised."

  • "Used a groupon for the fondue. It was delicious! We had wonderful service and the ladies working were very nice and answered all our questions. The food came out of the kitchen quickly and was very good. Great experience and will be back!"

  • "The place is small, but it is very nice, and the service is excellent. The food is fresh and delicious. There was a special on a wine bottle which I shared with my sister. The place got crowded towards the end so we decided to skip dessert as the kitchen was pretty backed up. I will be returning to try more of their menu. There is much more of a wine selection than food, but while the menu is small the food itself is great."

  • "Brought my GF there for Valentines Day. She requested a fondue dinner. However, we ended up ordering Mac n Cheese, Steak Crostini. THe menus wasn't a very typical valentines day selection, nor was the ambiance very romantic. We then had chocolate fondue for desert. With that said everything we had was delicious, just not really the type of selections that we had expected. A good place for an after work glass of wine to end the day. Not a great date night place."

  • "My girlfriend loves wine and mediterranean food - this place was an amazing find. Yup, the name captured my eye, but the reviews and website defeinitely made me want to take her there for Valentines day. We both have late schedules so it's good to know this place is open late even on weekdays. The staff was very courteous and caring to our experience. The food - amazing! I loved the bacon wrapped prunes~ It was a romantic vibe for the two of us, and i could see how it could be a great group dinner. I definitely recommend this place to anyone~"
