Diner Reviews
  • "We had a Groupon for two beer flights and charcouterie. Quite good. I wish the beer flights had been varied, so we weren't trying the same beers. It would've been nice to try something different. And in the future, I'd rather have wine flights. We also wound up ordering more food - for me, a salad (since I hadn't had any veggies that day), and for my husband, roasted celeriac. We enjoyed both. We especially liked the discount in the market afterwards! We'll be back, even if we don't have a Groupon!"

  • "So disappointed with this restaurant. The cheese plate was poorly chosen, the marinated olives were absolutely tasteless, as was the food we ordered....special of the night was a pasta dish that was bland and dry. The scallops dripping in oil/butter and the brussel sprouts were so hard we laughed that we could use them to play marbles or golf with! The only thing we liked about at this restaurant, and I mean the ONLY thing, was that u could grab a bottle of wine in the front store and bring it to the table...of course they added a $10 corkage fee ( even ough they own the wine store up front! ). At least we grabbed a great bottle of Merry Edwards Pinot noir...which saved the evening. We headed to Taco Bell after to fill our empty stomachs..."

  • "had to find a restaurant to take three friends from Bologna [aka city with best food in Italy] and show off B'more. Wine Market did everything riight, as always. Wine service was particularly important since I wanted to show case the best of the USA. They loved the ambience as well.."

  • "We enjoyed the oysters and had the duck leg, skirt steak and rockfish at our table for four. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was excellent We enjoyed picking out the wines for dinner and bringing them to our table from the great wine shop and superb collection of choices."

  • "Loved dinner at the Wine Market. The ambiance is really wonderful, our server was charming and knowledgeable, and the noise level was conducive to conversation without shouting. The menu is sophisticated but not daunting and the food was well prepared. This restaurant definitely had a big city feel."

  • "The Wine Market has been a favorite of mine for years. I decided to invite a friend, who is a superb cook, to join me for lunch. It was her first visit and she was "wowed" by the innovative menu and by the chef's perfect execution and presentation of all we ordered. The appetizer Brussel sprouts were delicious as was the cornmeal oyster salad. We couldn't resist the sour cherry tart with wine ice cream and, once again, it was wonderful!"

  • "We have been here many times and each time seems to get better. On this occasion it was a midweek night and ordered the 3 courses for 33. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the food was delicious."

  • "I really liked the ambiance as we walked in; an old, converted warehouse, but this rustic, industrial feel didn't follow all the way into the dining room, but it was still cool. The wine shop is attached to the restaurant so we were able to pick any bottle we wanted from the shop and have it with our dinner (albeit with a $10 corkage fee). I had the fried oysters starter and the special entree, which was lamb shank, and the food was unbelievably tasty, portion size was perfect. I can't say enough about how great the food was. The ONLY problem I had was I was not impressed with their special cocktails. I tried two and I didn't like either (but I still drank them). But I stuck to wine and quickly/easily got over it. We will be back soon!"

  • "We just love The Wine Market. They seem to do everything well. Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive but did not hover. Everyone's entree was intriguing, flavorful and generously portioned. The fried oysters remain one of Baltimore's best appetizers! And given the prices, the whole meal was an incredible value."

  • "This was not our first visit to The Wine Market Bistro, nor will it be our last. Brunch was fantastic! The food was to die for. Our meal began with a surprise amuse, if you will, of beignets served with an absolutely delightful nutella dipping sauce. When I casually mentioned to our amazing server, Maggie, that my girlfriend had eaten them both (the not so guilty party had stepped away,) Maggie brought us MORE, bless her soul! And it only got better from there. Our appetizers were earth-shatteringly delicious and designed to knock a glutton's socks off. The entrees were absolutely divine, from top to bottom. If I could have found fault with anything, I would gladly point it out to you, in all fairness; however, things were perfect."

  • "The Wine Market has been a favorite restaurant for years. Having a lunch at Wiine Market continued years of dining experiences that feature creative menus and outstanding service - and an exceptional wine list. We enjoyed a fine potato leek soup to start, and a steak salad and fish and chips for main dishes. Service was attentive and friendly. As an added bonus, diners get a15 percent discount on wine purchases in the wine shop after dining in the restaurant."

  • "The space was lovely - a high ceiling with exposed beams and windows on the west side made it open and airy, felt a little upscale. Service was great. We ordered the restaurant week brunch of salad + entree and the salads were good. Main course was slow in coming out (though honestly we barely noticed because we were so chatty). The hostess apologized profusely though our server did not. Whatever, it happens. No complaints. Main course was a bust. The chard and mushrooms in our omelettes were not chopped, but put in whole and they had been sauteed in a lot of oil. Then the omelette was cooked in oil. And there was truffle oil on top. It was a grease fest. I'll be back for a glass of wine and to enjoy the ambiance, but not for food."

  • "I used a gift card given to me on my birthday. My sister and I have frequented many restaurants and consider ourselves foodies. We decided to visit during Restaurant Week. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the waitress Nicole and the wait staff provided the best customer service. Wine Market Bistro is definitely worth visiting again."

  • "Our daughter was visisting from NYC and requested The Wine Market which she remembers as a destination for itsdelicious food and relaxed aesthetic ambiance. We enjoyed the rosmarin cocktail and great selection of wines. Our server was very helpful and pleasant and greatly contributed to the enjoyment of the evening."

  • "My wife and I enjoyed the special fixed menu plus wine pairings very much! We felt a bit rushed because they brought each course and wines out a little too quickly. Overall it was a very nice experience. First time there for dinner for me and second or third time for my wife. We both had attended a wine tasting that was very nice."

  • "Prior to dinner, we sat at the bar and I enjoyed an "ebony and ivory" flight of wines-delicious. I even bought the sparkling wine from the shop on our way out. Potato leek soup, cornmeal crusted oysters, mac and cheese, scallops, and rib eye steak; espresso pot de crème for dessert to share. Although overall, we thought it was an outstanding experience, for the benefit of the restaurant to make it truly ethereal--the steak was overdone. It still tasted terrific, which is why I did not send it back. But it was have been juicier if cooked medium as requested. Although every other table (including those waited on by our waiter) had a lovely French press with dessert, we were never asked if we wanted any coffee. Parking is plentiful-unusual!"

  • "We came for the Valentine's Day menu. We were seated just about on time but after that the service was a bit delayed. The wine pairings were great, the meal was creative but took so long to get out it took away from general experience. I think on a normal night this would not be an issue."

  • "Dined for brunch. Hollandaise was disappointing, seemed as if was premade powder that had been poorly reconstituted. Server was awkward. Say waiting around after finishing meal for a solid ten minutes waiting on our check."

  • "I really enjoyed my dinner at The Wine Market Bistro. The entrees were all big portions, and I loved the appetizers. Make sure that you pace yourself if you order a bottle of wine. My boyfriend and I accidentally drank the entire bottle because our server constantly refilled our glasses. Overall, we had a great experience."

  • "We needed to be comfortable, relaxed, close to home, and wined and dined and all at a reasonable price. We got it. And it isn't the first time and surely won't be the last. All the food was as Zagat promised (mid-hi 20s) - the wine was perfect and the wait staff more than adequate. The food was copious (i had the leftovers for next night's dinner) and the parking was excellent (a HUGE plus when dining in the city). Go there and often and will again as soon as we can...:-) Cheers!"

  • "The Wine Market Bistro is a great find. Tucked around the corner it would be easy to miss, but life would not be as rich. Walking through the wine market one is immediately taken into another world where only good things remain. Once seated, the senses continue to be tickled as your every need is taken care of by a wonderfully attentive staff. Once your plate arrives, the real fun begins as each course combines flavors to enhance your experience. Certainly a great place to go."

  • "Our first visit was dinner last year which was very good. This time around six of us enjoyed Brunch. Coffee arrived in a french press as we eyed the neighboring tale with it's BLT. Beignets arrived as we survey our options from the menu, my wife settled on the Apple and Cauliflower soup as a starter and Eggs Benedict as a main which was inventive and delicious. I can't resist Duck which came as a Duck bacon BLT, I almost licked my plate clean. All went very well with the Mimosa and the Bloody Mary's were apparently pretty good too. Service was well timed and very courteous. Very reasonably priced. Reservations are advised."

  • "We visited the restaurant on a Saturday with another couple. We had a reservation and were seated right away and even though the place was packed, we never felt rushed. The service was a tiny bit slow but that didn't matter to us since we were catching up with friends. Everyone, including the pickiest eater of the four of us, thoroughly enjoyed everything. One of the best things about this place is the ample free parking, so rare among city restaurants. And the shop has a great selection of wine and beer which, I believe, can be brought into the restaurant by diners. This was our third visit and everything has been great each time. Will definitely go back and have recommended to friends."

  • "Considering a move to Locust Point, we decided to try a local spot for dinner. The dining area is in an open rectangular room. A double glass door is in the middle of the long wall and opens directly into a courtyard where the winter air has no problem blowing in each time it is opened. All the tables are in this open space and the experience erases any thoughts of a cozy or intimate dining experience. The menu had a nice special of a three course meal with set wine pairings. Over all, the pairings were unremarkable and the wine did little to save the bland courses. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't something I would order again. The part that stands out was the non existent service from our server. It took the focus away from the meal"

  • "I took my fiancé here for her birthday. When making the reservation with OpenTable I put that in the comments. The restaurant did a great job making the night special. When dessert came the waitress had placed a birthday candle in it and then the manager came over and wished her happy birthday as well as giving her a gift. He had given us a small box with a gift card in it. Very unexpected and very nice! The service was a little slow, as it appeared to only be a waitress and maybe a busboy attending the dining room. It took over an hour to get entrees but the wait was worth it! The fried oysters were amazing, the scallops and the trout were great! The dumplings weren't so good and tasted frozen. Overall, it was a nice place with great food"
