Wine Cellar Restaurant, established in 2001, features European and Californian Cuisine. We are located in a 100 year old building in the heart of Historic Downtown Rapid City 1/2 block from the City Centre "Main Street Square" .

Relax in our intimate restaurant at our wine bar, in the main dining room, the cozy indoor back alley or seasonal sidewalk patio. Our talented Chefs will prepare your food to order using the freshest seasonal ingredients including fresh wild-caught seafood. All deserts are house made such as our signature "bittersweet chocolate flourless cake". The wine list changes regularly so that we may offer new wines to our guests as we discover them! About 50 of our wines are available by the glass and taste and we have an exceptional reserve/library/vertical list as well. The beer menu has a variety of the best domestics and imports including seasonal favorites

  • "Perfect...the food, the wine, the evening....we enjoyed porcini lasagna (to die for), beef tenderloin tacos...(not your ordinary tacos: grilled filet, red wine demi, gorgonzola, house-made flour tortillas, SO GOOD), creamy risotto and a hand trimmed filet mignon...everything was prepared to perfection and the presentation was beautiful! We come often....!! Right here in Rapid City SD....such a great restaurant!"

  • "The food was wonderful, the wine was wonderful. The service was awful. I had to flag someone down to get another glass of wine and we sat there for 15 minutes without getting bread. My husband sat there for 10 minutes with an empty iced tea glass and had to flag someone down for that also. It was our 10 year anniversary and it took so long to get our food that we didn't even stay for dessert."

  • "At 7 pm on a Thursday, the place wasn't busy. A bit of a strange menu but I guess that is the California influence they advertise. I thought the entrees were overpriced. The salmon was $29 and a filet was $42. Pricey for Rapid City. All in our party opted for appetizers and small plates. I would recommend checking the menu carefully before dining here. The scallops were good but the tenderloin skewer was undercooked and didn't have much flavor. It was a two hour meal that could have been 90 minutes without being rushed. The service was slow and the meal prep was forty minutes."

  • "I went to the Wine Cellar my first night in South Dakota. It had a nice wine list and interesting food. I was with my Portuguese grandson. We split scallop skewers (which were ok), champagne risotto (yummy) and vegetable lasagna which was delicious. There was only one waitress and a big party outside and one other table inside. So service was a little slow but not out of line. It was cozy and nice. A very good start to our vacation. We had a 9:00 reservation and appreciated their late hours. ;-)"

  • "We were generally very happy with the quality of the food. The forest mushroom bruschetta was wonderful. Our waitress was both a complete novice and untrained although she tried hard. My wife had the swordfish special which consisted of one small skewer of fish served over unseasoned jasmine rice Price=$42!!!. After complaining, it was reduced in half; however, the restaurant was overpriced across the board."

  • "A group of 6 of us dined at the wine cellar recently. Our server was prompt, friendly, knowledgeable and had an outstanding recommendation of a French Cab Franc. The entire dinner was excellent from innovative appetizers through dessert and French press coffee. We will definitely return! (Reservations are highly recommended)."

  • "I have entertained clients at Wine Cellar on numerous occasions, and have always found the experience thoroughly enjoyable. The special entrees are generally very appetizing and good value. The deserts are also usually fantastic! The wine list is broad, so you can spend as much as you like, or be conservative and still enjoy a nice selection. I would recommend the place to anyone looking for a really nice, and sometimes unique, meal. It is also well liked by the locals."

  • "This is getting repetitive! Once again, we had a great meal at The Wine Cellar. We've dined here about a dozen or more times and have found all of our experiences at The Wine Cellar to all be outstanding. This time, my wife and I enjoyed a wonderful dining experience with two friends, one of whom was visiting us from Virginia (and who was HIGHLY impressed). Wine, appetizers, entrees, and post-dinner coffee and dessert all hit the spot. Service provided by Jme (yes, that's how she spells her first name!) was prompt and friendly, with a spot-on wine recommendation. This is definitely one of the top four or five restaurants in Rapid City, hands-down. (Moreover, my visiting friend is gluten-intolerant, and he was well-accommodated here.)"

  • "My favorite resturant in Rapid. I try not to make it an only "special occasion" spot. This perticuler visit was a with a small group of woman. The server was helpful on what dishes paired well together and was accommodating to the requests of one of the woman with different needs. I have had this server almost every time I have been to the wine cellar and she is spectacular every time. The meals do take longer than at a chain resturant, but they should. Food is made to order and it allows you and your group to have great conversations. I have recently moved but can't wait to come back. I haven't found a resturant any where else that matches the ambience and service. "

  • "The food was very expensive for the amount you actually received.The bread they give you after your salad was literally croutons (2 of them) and then you get some sort of spread with it. I was very disappointed as I live bread. You can tell they hand make everything and are trying to be high end, however portion sizes are very small and the "bread" isn't really bread you would get at any other restaurant. While the food was good, I would like to try something else the next time we are in Rapid. Nice service though. It was noise in the alley way, though they did offer to move us. Wine and cocktail menu was pretty skimpy as they don't have their own bar. "

  • "We're on a 'round the USA retirement celebration trip. We stopped 2 nights in Rapid City SD so we could site-see. We got in town around dinner time, and being hungry decided to check on line for local fare. We absolutely do not eat fast food and had time for a full sit-down dinner. The on line ad for Wine Cellar was appealing, and it's in a hip part of the city-upbeat and snazzy. When we arrived, it took a few minutes to be recognized, but it's a small, boutique restaurant, so no big deal. Then we waited another 5-6 minutes before we got our menus, then another 5 minutes to get our water. But once we got settled, we got all the attention we needed. The meals, beer and wine-excellent! He had Swissed Chicken, I had Beef Tenderloin."

  • "This is the cutest restaurant I have been to in Rapid. There's tables and a bar in the front that's perfect for a dinner out, or even just wine and dessert. But there's also a more intimate dining area in the back, where all the tables are separated by cloth, so you have the perfect amount of privacy for date night or an anniversary, without being cut off from the rest of the restaurant. The food was absolutely incredible. I went for Valentine's Day, and they created a special menu for the that weekend. It was so good, that we wished we could order one of everything just to take home with us. I can't to go back and try their regular menu. If it's even half as good as that night, then it's still the best menu in town."

They prepare our food when we order so it is as fresh as making it at home (but you're not!) whether we feel like a light dinner of small plates or their (delicious) european pizzas with a beer or a perfect full dinner and a good bottle of wine (nice wist!!) we can get it here! And the desserts…well, they are out of this world…so don't skip that part!! If you live in Rapid City…this is the place to become a regular! If you're passing through….EAT here!"

  • "We surprised ourselves with The Wine Cellar Restaurant. The food and service were impeccable! We had the small and large plate seasonal specials and they were made to perfection. This wine list was primarily west coast wines, with many good choices. Their service was stellar! Their 'back alley' is a charming and intimate spot, however the one table at the end of the 'alley' has become too noisy from a new neighbor's refrigerant compressor. It could be workable for some, but not for us. The server graciously apologized and moved us to another table. The best part of their service is their 'slow-food' serving pace. We never felt rushed. We will return!"

  • "what a great evening (again)…the staff is knowledgeable and attentive, the food is outstanding from the small plates (personal favorite tonight was the house-made butternut squash ravioli) to the entrees…tonight I had the salmon and it was perfect, with a cherry almond sauce that made me want seconds! We shared a bottle of exceptional wine with our dinner and finished w/2 individual size bottles of champagne (how fun!) while we shared a house recommended bittersweet chocolate flourless cake, oh wow!!…need I say more? This place needs to be visited many times a month! I can't wait to go back :)"

  • "We were promtly greeted at the door by Jme, the manager, and provided menus quickly, but from that point the service went downhill. It was 15 mins before our wine order was taken; 10 mins later to have it served. Once the dinner order was placed it took 50 mins for the first appetizers to make an appearence. Not sure what was occuring in the kitchen but this is totally unacceptable nor was an explanation provided. The food was semi well prepared, the scallops were cooked beautifully, the salmon to be prepared medium rare yet when served was over cooked but not sent back due to fear it would take forever to get it redone, and the buffalo skweers were overcooked. Hope this was an service/cooking aberation because this place has potential"

  • "After reading other reviews I had found elsewhere I was really expecting a much better experience. What we found when we got there was more employees than customers. There were 5 workers standing around the bar area. I understand that there are slow times, but if you are taking a break you should do so in the break area. The wine list was very good although our server seemed to lack some knowledge as far as wines were concerned. The food menu was fairly good with enough options. After ordering we received crackers that were very bland. The salad was quite good. Overall the presentation of the food was done quite well. The food quality was good, but for the price we were expecting either much better taste or larger portions."

  • "Really enjoyed our visit to this restaurant. The reservation was great! I asked for a table away from the mainstream and they provided that. Courses were served in perfect timing. We were able to visit and sit without being hassled to move out for more customers (we were there for just over 2 hours). The food was very good. The portions were right (we aren't big eaters so the portion might be small if you are expecting a very large meal). Prices are steep and I would not recommend bringing children. There are only a few tables, so I would recommend making a reservation. I would definitely recommend this restaurant!"
