Diner Reviews
  • "It was nice and we had a good table with a view wait staff was new and a little slow .with water and bread. very pricey for the amount of food small portions. it was good but not really outstanding."

  • "They have a very nicely priced brunch with an omelet bar and the usual breakfast foods"

  • "My wife and I met some friends for brunch on a Sunday morning, We were met by a friendly hostess and escorted to a nice table by the window. The view of the Dana Point harbor was magnificent. We all enjoyed the hot fresh coffee and then went to the omelette bar, complete with an excellent selection of omelette fillings. The side dishes are also very good -- bacon, sausage, potatoes, etc. We all enjoyed freshly made waffles with strawberry topping and whipped cream -- out of this world. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit together in the magical atmosphere of brunch at the Wind & Sea (the restaurant where my wife and I had our wedding reception 34 years ago). We highly recommend the Wind & Sea for their Sunday brunch. We plan to go back soon."

  • "I have young kids (7 and 8). I usually take them with me but occasionally get to go out just with my husband, so I've experienced the restaurant in both ways. The food is consistently good and they want to make it right if you aren't happy with your food. The service is typically good (we aren't very patient people), the view is very nice, and the tables aren't too close together so usually other tables don't distract from your experience. I don't know that it's "romantic" and the interior decorating is dated but that's not way I'm going there. It's a great place for me and my family."

  • "While the service and view on the water was great, the food itself was flat and unimaginative. The decor and booths are getting very old."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "Oh how we wanted to like this place....but the food just did not measure up. Calamari strips were hunks of flavorless mystery. Mahi Mahi seemed not to be fresh, mashed potatoes tasted like they were from a box. Seared Ahi was overwhelmed by its sauce. Service staff was pleasant and attentive enough. View is of course fantastic....kitchen just needs to execute."

  • "I come to Wind and Sea often and bring my friends when they visit. I love the ambiance beside the marina, the sunset views, the warm and friendly service and I've always loved the food (highly recommend the calamari and nut encrusted mahi mahi or halibut with the plum sauce). Not inexpensive but I've always been happy with the experience."

  • "This was 24 years to the day that we had our Wedding Rehearsal dinner and it could not have been more perfect! We come here whenever we have out-of-town visitors, an important occasion, or just want to have a romantic dinner for two! We have NEVER had a bad experience; quite the opposite! We ALWAYS leave smiling. Thank goodness it hasn't changed and we can still depend on The Wind And Sea for a perfect experience. From the bar, to the patio, to the dining room, you just CAN'T go wrong!"

  • "We always enjoy a relaxing Sunday brunch at Wind & Sea. They have all of the components for a relaxing and enjoyable experience: Terrific buffet (best value around), beautiful view of the Dana Point inner harbor (lots of activity to see), great for special occasions (we were celebrating a birthday), very attentive and happy servers and endless Champagne. It all makes for a perfect and lazy morning in one of the nicest spots in Orange County. It gets busy fast, especially on warm sunny Sundays. I highly recommend this place! We'll be back."

  • "I had a lovely time here. The server was terrific and her service was great even though it was a bit busy when we arrived. My friend and I split the salmon and we each got a very nice amount of food with the split. It was $3 extra to split, but well worth it. For real foodies maybe this wouldn't be there thing, but for friends who want to sit and chat and look at a beautiful view and catch up, it was fabulous!"

  • "Great ambience, excellent service, excellent food."

  • "We had the fish and chips. The fish was old and chewy. The fries were undercooked. My sons birthday dessert was not a brownie but more like a cake and he wanted to take it to go but they don't let you do that. The waitress had too many tables and was running around the best she could. Hard to get water refills. Prices were reasonable, but if you cant chew or swallow the food why come back?"

  • "A great view, day or night makes this place a worthwhile stop. Wind & Sea is not expensive and you get sides with your meal."

  • "Arrived before the dining room was open, sat at a table in the bar. Had dinner in the bar with the usual outstanding service that I have come to expect."

  • "My sister and I took my mom to Sunday brunch for her birthday and it was great! The food was good, fresh and straight forward. The views of the harbor are excellent and the ambiance was upbeat. It was a lot of fun and we all enjoyed the brunch. Restaurant has been well maintained through the many years it has been in business."

  • "My wife and I joined two friends for brunch on a Sunday morning at the Wind & Sea in Dana Point, We were greeted with a smile and escorted to a nice table by the window (outstanding view of the harbor). Although champagne and other drinks were offered, we stuck with the coffee (excellent). The brunch is a buffet; so, after some conversation, we headed to the omelette area. They custom make your omelettes, with many choices for fillings, and eggbeaters are available at your request. The omelettes are superb, and there are many other sides to complement them. We also had the freshly made waffles smothered with strawberries and whipped cream -- out of this world. Our server was great, and the atmosphere was fabulous. Highly recommend!"

  • "I live in Dana Point and come to Wind and Sea frequently and was expecting the valentines day experience to be better then it was. I was drawn back by the special menu they had...because it wasn't anything special. The food is always good but I wasn't to excited about the variety on the Valentines menu. The lighting was a little bit to low and there were a good amount of single people getting routy by the bar. Our waiter seemed very inexperienced and overwhelmed with the amount of people and kept forgetting us. I rated this three stars because I do think that wind and sea is a wonderful restaurant. I just think that it wasn't their best night overall."

  • "Valentines Day Dinner. A little noisier then I thought it would be. My wife's Salmon was excellent, my steak was overdone. But when my wife ordered a Blue Hawaiian, the waiter brought her some pink colored martini. She said no, and the waiter said they did not have any blue drinks. I tracked down the manager, and he did make it right and educated the waiter. The overall service was poor, but I think it might have been a new waiter, on a busy night. We might try it again, but during the day, so the view might be better."

  • "Good food, comfy seats and booths, friendly service, beautiful sunsets. What could be better. Dining room is quiet enough to visit with friends and as we age this is very important. If we want to watch sports, drink and hang out the bar is noisy and fun. Best of both worlds"

  • "The restaurant is located in a beautiful location with all the tables facing Dana Point Harbor. Patio seating is also available. Our server Stacy was a delight. She greeted us with a warm smile and a friendly attitude. We are on a no carb diet which she accomodated nicely for us. We started with a Grilled Artichoke that was very tender and crusted with Parmasean Cheese which added flavor. We both selected the Calamari Steak as our entrees. Each serving consisted of two steaks that covered the plate and were delicious We had not tasted Calamari this good since our last trip to Monterey, California."

  • "I had lunch at Wind and Sea with a group of women and although I knew we would have a nice ocean view, I was pleasantly surprised by the food. I ordered the calamari and it was truly delicious. I will return again soon."

  • "Full bar and their own exotic drinks. Pasta dishes were a huge hit. But I come for the Calamari Steaks. Best place in Dana Point to get Calamari. One of the rare places I can find it nowadays."

  • "Met old friends for a leisurely lunch. We lingered over our food, which was quite good, for a couple of hours. The food was as expected - well cooked and presented, but not what I would consider a "foodie" restaurant. (I compare food with Michelin Star restaurants). I did have the daily special for a starter - a tuna poke that was excellent!! it should also be noted that we ordered off the lunch menu and did not try any of the dinner specials. The view of the harbor is very pleasant and the atmosphere seems very family friendly. I would highly recommend this restaurant for someone looking for a pleasant, moderately priced seafood restaurant. I truly appreciated the excellent service and commend the wait staff for the excellent pacing!"

  • "The calamari sandwich had much too much lettuce and very little calamari. The fish and chips were very good, however."

  • "The Wind & Sea has become an annual spot to meet family for our holiday lunch. We've been there 5 years now and the food and service never wavers. It's comfortable seating, the food is always good, the view is spectactular and the staff has always been friendly and efficient. We took a long lunch, almost going into an early dinner, but the staff did not rush us out or make us feel we needed to leave."

  • "We asked for a window seat, did not get one, we were told we should have called them directly to assure a window seat. The food was semi warm and in our opinion very much over priced, my Sister in Law paid for the meal and I was embarrassed. I had the traditional dinner, I should have had a starter instead. Now for the OK stuff, very happy with the personnel, from reception to waiter, very nice people. My wife and I go there for lunch quite often, and will continue to do so, but never again for Christmas dinner. They have a million dollar view, and at the end of the day the sunset was wonderful."

  • "Sirloin steak is tops. Great Mai Tai. Waiter gave enough but not too much attention. Decor is dated, but views are fantastic. Price for me, wife and 3 yr old with tip hit 90 with 1 Mai Tai, strawberry lemonade and juice for son. I'll go back ."

  • "Enjoyed evening with family. Wonderful place to relax and take in view of harbor. Ahi poke excellent, flavorful. Grilled salmon very good, almost melting n mouth with flavor. Fried shrimp very good after removing fried breading. Did not see grilled shrimp on menu. Grilled mahi mahi was a disappointment as a dish served in a seafood restaurant. Maybe it was overcooked or maybe it was not so fresh, should have sent it back. Willing to return but will avoid grilled mahi mahi."

  • "Of all the restaurants in Dana Point Harbor where you can watch the Boat Parade the Wind & Sea has the best view and the best food. However, you must do two things: (1) make your reservations early, (2) start with a Mai Tai and the Calamari strips."

  • "We were traveling for Thanksgiving and were looking for a place that had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner. We picked Wind and Sea and was not disappointed. The food was good, the service was good. The place was a little noise and crowded but it was Thanksgiving and there were a lot of people doing the same thing we were. I would like to try the restaurant again when it's not a Holiday."

  • "Our choice of entrees was limited to one of three items. We were not allowed to alter any of the items that came with all of the three entrees. For example I wanted the Salmon entrée, but I did not want mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce and yams. The turkey was dry, but the gravy was good. The potatoes and the stuffing were also good (with gravy), but the cranberry sauce and yams were terrible. We all were given a small slice of pumpkin pie at the end of the meal. This meal cost $29. Every dinner was brought out on one large tray. Everything, even the cranberries, were combined on one tray placed in the middle of the table. We were each given a small white plate and we just dug in. It was not appealing."
