A word from Wilshire
Designer Thomas Schoos created a warm distinctive ambiance while taking advantage of the unique spaces on the property. Each room makes an individual statement retaining the “old world” character of this historic space or capturing a more modern sensibility. The main dining room features plush
leather banquettes and antique mirrors enhanced by candlelight while the indoor bar has coffered ceilings, club chairs and a softly lit amber bar. The spacious outdoor garden, bar and private terrace are surrounded by rich chocolate stucco walls accented with fireplaces and water features. The dining area seats 100 and the terrace may inspire a cigar or fine Cognac fireside.

I love the outdoor patio
especially at dinner time, its beautiful and romantic. Great service and yummy food (shrimp & grits)!!!"

Had a wonderful time, ambience and
food were great. Service was excellent . Would recommend for anyone looking for that special place or special occasion."

Our evening at Wilshire was quite
delightful. The service was wonderful and friendly. We even had the privilege of the Manager Brianna come to our table often, making sure everything was fine. We were treated well from the hostess to the gentleman that escorted us to the parking lot. At 10:00 it turns into a very popular night club with lines out the door, making it difficult to exit. It becomes quite energetic at that time. Otherwise the outdoor area is a noise level where you can talk comfortably. A lovely evening! A special thank you to Brianna!"

A little bit more "romantic" than
what I was going for but...awesome place!! Definitely a great date night spot!!!"

We went for Valentines day. First
time. Seated immediately. Asked if we wanted a booth or table, inside or patio. Took a booth inside. Wait staff excellent. Brought our own wine. No problem. $20.00 corkage. Browsed the wine list anyway. Great choices. Was told thursday is 50% off on all wines. The food was delicious. Food brought at perfect intervals. Now the desert!! Can't decide whose was better. Flourless chocolate cake or pot du creme butterscotch . Both were memorable. Going back next week for my husbands birthday party."

Took some friends from out of town
to The Whilshire since I had good exp's in the past. The bacon/ farm egg salad was great, the crispy pork belly was good, not great. The is Osso Bucco, on the other hand, was over salted. Good, but salty. The breakdown was in our service. Not sure why but the server we had disappeared on us only to get his "brother" who was anything but related, who although nice, wasn't up to the task of the number of tables he had. Dined on a Tuesday night. Not overly crowded."
Dined on 2/11/2014
Architecturally and decoratively
very fine indeed. Food was heavy and dull (however, the dessert was heavy and yummy). Maybe the subs were in the kitchen the night we came."

This review is for my Dine LA
experience ONLY. I've eaten at the Wilshire a couple other times in the past and had a pleasant experience and good food. The biggest problem I had at lunch was my server. I won't go into details, but her service made for an unbearable lunchtime experience. LIKES: Beef barley soup, chopped chicken salad, meatball sandwich. Both desserts were HEAVENLY (butterscotch pot de creme & flourless chocolate cake-and we had them to go!) DISLIKES: our waitress, the wait in between courses, the fact that 2 meatball and 2 salad choices were offered on courses 1 & 2 was very limiting, and we got ONE soda refill only because WE flagged down the guy bussing tables. At $4 a soda that's ridiculous!"

Both the food and the wait staff
were top notch! I will absolutely return and highly recommend The Wilshire to others. Cheers!!"

Tucked off the busy main drag of
Wilshire Boulevard lies Wilshire. The building that once housed by The Black Forest Inn has been transformed into an array of spaces. Past the bar, down the ramp alongside the indoor dining area, into the outdoor patio. I thought it would be cold. I thought it would be loud. I thought it would be pretentious. It was none of those. The space is beautiful, a delightful garden space. Heaters nearby. Unique dining spaces dot the perimeter. I barely noticed the other tables. The food was beautiful, every bite of it. Unique in their combination and construction. The cast of wonderful humans working there was delightful, authentic, and kind. I would go back here again and again. Can't wait."
Dined on 1/23/2014
Unassuming on the outside and not
what I expected when entering the bar/casual dining area as it seemed dark and lifeless. And then we rounded the corner! The patio is a kind of indoor/outdoor combination and is ABSOLUTELY gorgeous!! The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. The menu offers a great selection of fresh and delicious choices and a great wine list. The food was OUTSTANDING! Highly recommend!"

One if my fav restaurants however
this time had poor service. Our drinks took 20 minutes and came after appetizers after asking twice and server completely forgot my husbands coffee. Since you're paying a lot - $60 per person not including tip even for my son as no kids menu kind of bad. And we did not order a bottle of wine. Ambiance is excellent as love the patio but do not think I will go back. Food was good this time but not amazing as they have changed the menu."
Dined on 1/11/2014
The food was mediocre at best. Out
of the four of us only two of us got our orders correct. To get service was was almost impossible. I almost had to physically get a waiter to order a second bottle of wine. We did not get our lunch served to us until we finally had to ask when it would be coming . We had waited almost An hour for our entree. Though everyone was very nice, with the combination of lousy food and incredibly slow service I wouldn't go again."
Dined on 12/16/2013
The food here was excellent but
what stuck out the most is our server whose name I can't remember. Her customer service was excellent and she knew how to chat people up. Very witty. When I asked her about the nightlife in Santa Monica, she told us that they have a DJ coming that night and that it's a great place to hang out. Wow! An employee who actually sells her company! I was so impressed. The next time I'm there, I'm going to convince her to come work for my bank."
Dined on 12/7/2013
We went to dinner at WIlshire and
even though it was a chilly evening, their outdoor patio was comfortable, even cozy. Fireplaces and firepits were burning, lots of heat lamps, and the trees were sparkling with lights. As always, the food and service were excellent. Just a lovely experience."
Dined on 11/25/2013
From the hostesses, to the
waiters, to the busboys, everyone was friendly & helpful. Our waiter was charming & had a lot of suggestions for our dinner. Hamachi appetizer was very fresh. Had the short ribs which were tasty & tender but a little dry. You will probably need the side dishes to supplement your dinner plate."
Dined on 11/16/2013
The food was good not great but
the restaurant and ambiance made the dinner experience enjoyable"

What a Special Place! We arrived
around 6:30pm, didn't leave until after 11pm. The food, the ambience, the seating areas were just awesome! Most of all, our waiter!!"
Dined on 11/9/2013
This place was absolutely great,
the sticky toffee pudding is a must! The food was better than I had expected and our waiter was extremely helpful. The service is exactly what you would expect from a place like this. The drinks were the highlight of the night"
Dined on 11/8/2013
Outstanding food and service.
Waiter was informative (a bit too much attention from him) and food was excellent. We eat here often, a real gem."
Dined on 10/23/2013
There is total attention by all
involved to cater to the needs and wants of the client. Such a pleasant environment is created, one cannot fail to have a great experience."

My first visit to Wilshire was for
my birthday dinner - and it was wonderful. Really superb and interesting food, friendly staff, and a sleek yet warm ambience. Definitely a gem."
Dined on 10/29/2013
Great menu with fresh vegetables
and proteins. Happy to see the menu wasn't full of over complicated dishes that made it look like he was trying to impress himself and not the diners. The food was simple and prepared perfectly. The wait staff provided nice descriptions of the dishes and was helpful with suggestions on the sides so we didn't over order. My only negative comment was that we were seated inside with no option given for the outdoor patio. We had a reservation and it was early enough that both looked to be available."
Dined on 10/20/2013
What a treat to sit outdoors under
heat lamps and eat this amazing food. The new chef does amazing things to vegetables--if you hate brussell sprouts, this chef will change your mind. Try the cactus fruit lemonade (with a splash of vodke?), it'll knock your socks off. The sticky toffee pudding with craime fraiche ice cream was SO GOOD that I ordered a second one. And I'm allergic to dairy, but it was worth the sacrifice!! I could fill a bathtub with that dessert and eat my way out :)"

I finally went to Wilshire because
my sister recommended it. I live in Santa Monica but never went there and I was delightfully surprised. The out door seating is wonderful and the restaurant is much bigger then it looks. According to the server they change the often which I love because it gives you the opportunity to explore new foods. We had the duck breast with pomegranates, moist and delicious, the friend chicken and mash potato was superb, the salmon was done right and the cauliflower was out of this world. We are definitely going back and I saw that they also have a happy hour which I haven't tried yet. The prices are very reasonable."
Dined on 10/5/2013
It's one of our go-to favorites,
especially with out of town guests. Service was off it's usual standard of excellence."
Dined on 10/5/2013
I love Wilshire for predictably
good food, a gorgeous patio, and suitability for entertaining business colleagues. What I don't like is paying $5 for valet parking at lunch. It's like a 25% surcharge on my entree. I'm also getting a little tired of the up changing menu, and the dearth of dessert options. Sorry, cheese and sorbet do not cut it. While revamping dessert, please consider adding a little gluten-free pastry."
Dined on 10/3/2013
Wilshire was a great find for an
out of town traveler, and had a great personality as well! Would definitely reccommend to travelers looking for a nice, up-scale dining experience."

I hadn't been to Wilshire in a
while! and now I want to go back. Our meal the other night was delicious and the service was great,"

We have dinner at The Wilshire
regularly - love the patio dining. Recently met friends for lunch and had a great time. The lunch menu is really delicious! All four of us had something different,, but shared a few bites."
Dined on 7/22/2013
Excellent service. Beautiful
patio. Food always excellent. Love it for business lunches and find any excuse to go there."
Dined on 9/17/2013
Appetizers were great and had
their own twist on common appetizers. Very taste and very affordable, we made a meal out of the appetizers! The server was attentive and very friendly."
Dined on 9/13/2013
Wilshire has a lovely ambience,
particularly in the outdoor area in the back. The food is good but not great. One of our party had the Kurobuta pork chop. It was good, but the Kurobuta pork chops we grilled at home the week prior were much juicier and better. It's a nice place but if you are looking for outstanding food, you might keep looking. If you have friends from out of town who can't believe the beautiful climate here and you also want good food, you can't beat the back patio."
Dined on 9/11/2013
The menu has plenty of appetizers
and sides, which are perfect for sharing. Being vegan, I opted for sides, which were altered to fit my diet. Mashed Potatoes, Brussel Sprouts, and Cauliflower. All of them were delicious and I shared with the girls as well. The ceviche got great Reviews. One of us ordered the duck and she raved about it. The burger and fries, as always, was excellent. There was a special appetizer that night which was a sun dried tomato ravioli, which the ladies devoured. We finished up with a bread pudding a la mode. Two of the ladies indulged in some house cocktails which were perfectly mixed, The girls loved my choice and said that they would definitely be back and would suggest it as a date venue."

Fantastic environment in the
garden. It was easy to communicate with all at our table. Service was fantastic and the wine list has something at all prices ranges. Oh yeah, the food was great too!"
Dined on 8/24/2013
Lovely lunch -- heirloom tomato
soup followed by lobster cobb salad. Delicious. Excellent service. The patio is a great place for lunch with a friend."
Dined on 8/23/2013
I always enjoy this place. The
lady at the front desk is super nice and always welcoming. The back patio is a lovely area in which to dine and the service is always top notch. The food makes you want to keep coming back and it's a terrific place for a business lunch as well as a romantic dinner - not many places can combine those attributes. In the evening both the inside and outside bars are very cool places to hang out - I only wish I wasn't 20 years older than the average age of the bar patrons!"
Dined on 8/19/2013
The food is superb. Choices you
only find at a fine restaurant. The wine list is second to none. Wines from around the world. The service was wonderful. The patio dining is delightful with little yellow lights decorating the natural trees around which the patio is built."
Dined on 8/17/2013
The night I was there service was
mediocre for our party of three. After relatively inattentive waiter, we received our dessert menu, however did not see our original waiter for fifteen minutes and had to call another waiter who was great. Our original waiter finally returned with our check at the end of the meal, even then with a mistaken extra charge for a drink they did not serve. Perhaps my experience is unusual. The food, however will make me return."
