Diner Reviews
  • "I was hoping to celebrate my wife's birthday with a nice meal and some good service but I chose the wrong restaurant. We went to the Wilmette Chop House this past Saturday night and it was incredibly loud, the service was very slow, and our food was not good. We considered leaving even before ordering due to the noise (which we should have) but decided to give them the benefit of the doubt. I wish that I had read the reviews before booking the reservation. We won't be going back."

  • "This was our second time back at Wilmette Chop House. We were extremely disappointed with the service. It took our table 30 minutes just to get drinks. Food was fair...the meat was undercooked. Server never apologized for the service or meal. Owner of restaurant was drinking with a large party instead of walking around his restaurant and checking on his customers. We would NEVER go back here!"

  • "The smoked pork chop entree got rave reviews, lobster tail was over cooked and chewy."

  • "This was our third visit in the past year. Each time, we have been impressed with the very professional and welcoming staff, and the high quality of the food."

  • "My wife had the pork chop and it was amazing! I had the risotto special which was very good. It had ground filet mixed in and was very tasty. Service was good but it was a very slow night so hard to judge for sure but they were very attentive. The chef came out a couple of times and chatted with us which was also very nice. This was our first time and we will be back."

  • "Went with a friend and we both loved it. Everything was handled beautifully and chef Rob was hands on. We had the Walleye Pike and it was more than wonderful!! Great time, great experience!"

  • "This is a great little restaurant that is intimate and the food is very good."

  • "The food was very good Bd the service was too. The lobster bisque was one of the best I've had! The boneless rib eye was also delicious! Definitely worth the trip! "

  • "Our steaks were cooked to order. I love steaks charred on the outside. vegetables were crisp. Quiet setting"

  • "Food was average. I wasn't feeling well and only had the Lobster Bisque which was okay. My spouse's steak was rare but was it was rather tough to be rare and it was very expensive ($62) not worth it at all. My son has the chicken fingers which tasted pretty fresh but he did not like the fries. All in all this place is quite expensive. Also - we were celebrating my son's birthday and the server asked my son what flavor of ice cream he wanted leading us to believe he was going to bring it out but instead we just got the bill. My son was sad about that so we just wanted to leave at that point. This place is over-priced and I wasn't impressed. "

  • "Was disappointed for an upscale restaurant .good we had a groupon!, Potatoes came after entree! Nothing great"

  • "Went to celebrate a very special family occasion with my wife. Not to embarrass her, or spoil the evening, I didn't send back my foot-long naked bone, in rib eye steak (think they call it a Tomahawk steak) which I would have done in a heartbeat. It was the worse steak I have ever been served. 60% of it was burnt at the edges, fat and gristle, and what was left was so tough it was hard to chew. What really disturbed me, was having to pay an UNREALISTIC $62.00 for the dish. Their website menu indicates a rib eye steak is $36.00.(My wife said her double cut pork chop was good but a little dry.( I shouldn't have listened to the server who KEPT TOUTING the Tomahawk, and ordered the pork chop that I originally wanted."

  • "Great personal service and outstanding food at the Wilmette Chop House. Portions are large, which means you have lunch all ready for the next day! Quite atmosphere so a conversation is pleasant. Staff is attentive without being intrusive. Great place for a family dinner."

  • "Can't say much good about this place. First time I've been. I had the skirt steak which was cooked to order (medium rare) but was filled with more gristle and fat than meat. It was extremely tough too. I've bought better skirt steak at our local Jewel and it's not known for its high quality meat. My son had a New York Strip, which he ordered medium rare. It was closer to medium well. Service was very slow. Waiter was very annoying. Just a weird attitude. The only reason I'd go back is because I live about 1/2 mile away making it convenient."

  • "Food was excellent-one of the best steaks we heve ever had! The sides were great also. Owners Chef Rob and Madonna made sure all was perfect with every table, which is very nice to see how much they care about each guest. Will definately be back!"

  • "The restaurant did honor our reservation, the service was slow, the waiter spilled a glass of water all over our friend. We had different people waiting on us and my food was luke warm."

  • "The food was fantastic. It was close to the BEST bone-in ribeye I have ever had, and that says a lot, as I go to Chicago steak houses monthly in search of a great steak. And the price was almost half of what I normally pay in the city. The cook even came out to see how it was cooked. He nailed it... nice char and lightly seasoned, cooked perefectly. The meat was extremely tender. And we topped our meal off with desert, which for the price, was fantastic also. The Banana's Foster, on a waffle, with ice cream, was delicious. We had a groupon, but I am going back simply because the food is fantastic even at the regular prices, which are a real deal compared to the prices in the city."

  • "This is the place to come for a truly fine Dining experience: excellent food, relaxed pace, personable service, live piano, some privacy, lovely red walls."

  • "I live in the neighborhood and couldn't resist the coupon from Amazon Local to try out Wilmette Chop House. The dining room is attractive, small and intimate. There was a live piano player who added to the ambiance. The menu is limited and while I was thinking about their braised pork special, our waiter explained how the Pork Chop is many people's favorite. After ordering it, I know why! It had a ham-like texture and flavor, with a wonderful glaze. Oh, and it was enormous! The staff is friendly in this very small restaurant resulting in multiple pleasant exchanges with our waiter, the Chef (yes, Cannoli is better than guns) and the hostess (the chef's wife)."

  • "My husband and I have been here numerous times and they have yet to disappoint. Growing up in Nebraska, I feel confident in saying that I know my beef, and whenever I have ordered the filet minon it has melted in my mouth. I usually like my meat rare to medium rare, still mooing doesn't bother me at all, and it has always been cooked that way for me. The ambience is just okay, it seems like they are always changing things up since it is a small, small place and they have a piano bar in there, which makes for a fun night out too."

  • "After hearing mixed reviews about the Chop House, my wife and I took advantage of a Groupon to try it out. Overall it was a good experience. My salad was good, my wife's filets were tasty, the pork chop was huge and the Smokey/sweet combination really good. Service was good and the chef came out to say hello and to tell us where the bread came from (it was good). The only issue is price vs value. Without the Groupon, it would have cost a bit too much for what you get."

  • "The service was first rate, friendly, fast responsive. We were there from out of town with a short leash. They were very accommodating and helpful."

  • "Loved the food at the Chop House, but the service was terribly slow and the crowd was not exactly what a young couple was looking for."

  • "Wow noise level needs to be toned down by dampers Piano and voices in a small room Ouch"
    Dined on 3/22/2014
  • "We had a table next to a service doorway which was distracting with an almost constant flow of traffic by the service staff. Along with the piano playing and high noise level, this is not a place for a serious conversation. That said, next time I will request a corner table when making reservations as everything else is quite good"

  • "The emergence of downtown Wilmette as a restaurant center has made the choices great and the parking difficult. The Chop House is unique in its upscale and steak orientation. The food is excellent, the service spotty, and the piano bar can make the noise level too high. But it is going to bring a clientele to Wilmette that will also help them discover the other outstanding new restaurants."

  • "Very sparsely attended, even for Thursday. Very expensive--espcially for Wilmette. Excellent food & wine. Brilliant pianist…nice ambience & service. Too rich for our blood, but nice to have seen/done it."

  • "Once again our thanks to Chef Rob for a fantastic meal and a wonderful evening. Wilmette Chop House is the perfect place for a special dinner or just a night with friends. The piano bar adds wonderful ambiance and the food is out of this world!"

  • "The Wilmette Chop House was a very nicely decorated room. The food was excellent and the preparation was pleasing. The only caveat was is to not go there when the piano player is there, because he caused us to leave before dessert. Despite the piano player we will come back and enjoy the restaurant to its fullest, because the desserts looked wonderful!"

  • "We were looking for a neighborhood place that was nice to celebrate my husband's birthday. The Wilmette Chop House was perfect! Beautiful decor, live piano music, wonderful food and excellent service. The "green beans" Served with all main courses melt in your mouth. The Wedge Salad was generous and perfectly balanced creamy homade dressing. We also had the clams Casino as a special appitizer and they were delicious! My husbands steak was perfectly cooked. I had the Lamb Chops and I would just say they were overly seasoned. Too much dry-rub for the tender lamb. Otherwise perfect!"

  • "I took a party of 5 and everyone had something different Lobster, Tomahawk Steak and the Pork Chop and everything was perfect. I’m going back for the pork chop myself and will make this a regular trip just for that as it was one of the best pork chops I have ever had as it’s a must try. As the waiter described it I could tell his mouth was watering and I almost ordered it and wish I would have even though the Lobster I ordered was good along with the Tomahawk steak my girlfriend . The service was perfect along with the atmosphere. I can see this place outgrowing its current size."

  • "The food was incredible--all of it! The Chef checked on us to be sure we were liking everything. The Server was Great! He had the entire restaurant to himself and was busy all night. He did a wonderful job, not making us feel rushed. He also checked on us at appropriate times. We didn't have to ask for anything. He was always there at the right time to pour more wind or to see if we needed anything."

  • "The Wilmette Chop House is one of our new favorites. It's warm and cozy atmosphere is always coupled with it's inviting and gracious staff. The food selections are creative and delicious. Chef and owner, Chef Rob, always stops at our table during our evening to be sure everything is to our liking. They are very accommodating with individual dietary needs. Do not miss the smoked pork chop - it's very special. Lastly, this gem is further enhanced with live music nightly."
