Diner Reviews
  • "I found bones in my salad. Food was "meh" overall. Much better in prior visits. Not sure what happened to this place but likely won't go back. "

  • "We had a delightful evening with a friend that we wanted to take out and give a special treat to. Expense wise, it's a little more than what we would normally want to spend. But for that special occasion once in a while, we were very pleased. Meal was exceptionally good."

  • "We live near Ballston and often we forget that Willow Restaurant is so close and so wonderful!! It's a lovely place midst the hustle of Ballston, and provides for a range of things - a special dinner out or a lovely relaxed happy hour. The service is very attentive. The choices for dinner are classic yet varied and interesting - my husband and mother-in-law enjoyed the cod, which we don't see often. The salads are also interesting - with a nice range so that you can enjoy something with hearts of palm and oranges or with spinach with bacon. Overall, Willow offers something for everyone in an elegant and enjoyable way. "

  • "I have eaten lunch at Willow several times over the past year. The menu is varied and gives me plenty of items to choose from. I have always found my choices very satisfying and enjoyable. The recently introduced (I think) modestly priced lunch specials seemed appealing. I, however, always seem to go to Willow for a special occasion, so that a quick meal is not in the cards. "

  • "We headed to Willow very excited for a date night. The service was not anything we expected, having to ask for water, having to ask for bread, having to ask for sauces that came with a dish. We felt rushed by the staff closing the dining room even though the patio was completely full. Overall disappointing. "

  • "I have eaten at Willow previously and this lunch was nothing like the last one. Nice private area for lunch Server polite and cheery.. We had the calimari and BBQ flatbread for appetizers and they were very good. I had the 1/2 sandwich and a ceasar salad. Sandwich was good but the salad had cabbage ?? and too much cheese, but nothing else that made it a ceasar salad. Did not like it at all. Other dishes we had were the burger with french fries, which was great. I tried some of the burger and it was wonderful. Another meal came with fried green beans that were cold. I did not think they were meant to be served cold. The key lime pie was awful. Did not taste like key lime at all and crust was very hard. Chocolate dessert was very good."

  • "We had the Friday fish fry Lenten special, which was outstanding, and could be ordered broiled rather than fried. We had enough room to divide one of the fine desserts three ways. A quality dining experience."

  • "very good food, and always consistent. the cod special was absolutely delicious. i've had many of their seafood and other dishes and have not had a disappointing meal there yet."

  • "Our lunch was well prepared, and well served. Highly recommend this for a quiet business lunch."

  • "Our service and food were outstanding. Parking in the building is a plus with handicap parking by the elevator."

  • "I dined at Willow alone on a Saturday night. I say this because dining alone at a nice restaurant on a Saturday night is generally not greeted very well. Wait people are often not as gracious as they are to others when a single women dines alone. However, I felt very well served and the food was great also, very creative. I will go again."

  • "There are many choices for lunch but the food especially the soup is a little too salty."

  • "Willow has been one of our Go To places for years now! The food is delicious! The service is fantastic! The menu modifications as the seasons roll along always leaving you wanting to come back to see what the Chefs will create next!"

  • "Food was delicious and the elegant atmosphere with white table cloths sets this restaurant apart. Never had a bad meal here."

  • "The food was wonderful; especially the Willow pizza, Brussel sprouts with bacon, the ice cream, the homemade macaroons, the cauliflower soup, the lobster pot pie and ravioli. Our waiter, John, was awesome - ask for him! Will definitely come back again... it's expensive, but you get huge portions and it's quality food! Also good for business lunches..."

  • "We love Willow for special occasions. If you let them know ahead of time, they will print a menu with custom greeting (anniversary, birthday, whatever) at the top. It is very charming and a great surprise for the recipient,"

  • "Took client after recommending restaurant and they were totally floored. Great serv ice, great restaurant and unique menu items. Always terrific here."

  • "I had the skate, and it was fabulous, as was the bread pudding for dessert. Our waiter was also quite charming."

  • "This place is quiet and romantic. The good is really good."

  • "This is my favorite menu at Willow - small plates of gourmet food, cheaply priced. What's not to like? However, the rival for my favorite menu is the $10 lunch deal which I have been to twice already."

  • "Service was poor. It was hard to place an order. We weren't asked if we wanted dessert or coffee, just given the check. Took forever to place our order and to get a glass of wine required multiple requests. We felt as if we had offended the staff and they just wanted to get rid of us. Food was good, but it was not a great evening."

  • "Dinner with a friend was great at the Willow. Great menu selection. I had the triple Lamb which was full of rich flavors."

  • "Table was ready when we arrived, host was very professional, waiter took good care of us, check in but not too often and was helpful with food suggestions. The meal was prompt and the food was good and well presented."

  • "This was our third dinner at Willow and the best evening yet! Drinks for the excellent bar, dinner specials, outstanding service, and cookies to go...what more could we ask for? Well, we will just have to try again and see...."

  • "The Lemon Roasted & Buttermilk Fried Chicken was our tables favorite! We enjoyed the evening and will return....."

  • "Bad food, bad presentation. Left hungry. Horrible service. Tables so close I could hear the man next to me chewing. We will not be back, ever."

  • "Best food we have had at a restaurant in months. The lamb, and also the tuna, were spectacular, and different, and presented in a lovely way."

  • "This is one of the most consistent restaurants in the Metro area. I've eaten there probably 10 times without a miss."
    Dined on 2/25/2014
  • "I dined here with a client for lunch. The food was good but it was ridiculously expensive for what was served. I had a salad and an entree and water, my client had soup, an entree and tea. The bill was $60 before the tip. The plates were very small and for $18, I expected more than 2 raviolis! Also, $8 for a salad that was just lettuce and cheese - way too much cheese - seemed outrageous. It was very tasty, but seemed very overpriced to me. I wouldn't choose this restaurant again. There are a lot of other restaurants in Ballston or farther into Clarendon that represent a better value."

  • "My family went to Willow on Saturday night for my mother's birthday. The service was great, and the food was even better. The salads are a must try - both the organic mixed green and fall apple buttermilk blue cheese salad were very flavorful. The medallions of filet mignon were great as well, the chef did a great job of cooking them to our exact specifications. The complimentary birthday cookies for my mom were a great touch as well. Overall, great time!"

  • "I am a strict vegetarian, so a crucial part of choosing a place to eat involves checking the menu online to see if there are good vegetarian options. Upon viewing the online menu I saw a great vegetarian soup and entree, so I decided to go to Willow. We got there and we were promptly seated and given the menu. To my surprise and disappointment, the menu that we were given was COMPLETELY different than the one posted online. Nothing that was on the online menu appeared in the one we were given. There were no vegetarian appetizers or soups, and just one entree. I was able to order an appetizer with the meat on the side, but I really wanted the soup I saw on the menu online. The food was incredible, but I was disappointed in the discrepancy."

  • "The food never fails to impress. Willow serves the best seasonal soups in N. Virginia. The service from the entire staff is warm and outstanding. Save room for dessert."

  • "The food was okay. Calamari appetizer was quite spicy. The Australian lamb was just okay and tuna steak was good. Chocolate cake desert was really good. The service was a little off especially for the price paid. Little things were off. No plates for appetizer. Coffe coming after desert finished. Some waiting around. Others near us seemed to have trouble too with long food waits. Ours came out without too much wait. Second visit with less than top service. Figured first time was a fluke. Doubtful we will return. Too many other places to try."

  • "We had not been to Willow in a few years and while it is still good, it is has lost something that once made it excellent. The smoked salmon appetizer was clunky with thick sour cream and blended flavors. The french onion soup tasted mostly like burned onions and we did not even finish it. Lobster duo was excellent and full of flavor. Pork entree was sadly flavorless and not evenly cooked with solid pink near the bone. Apple and potato sliced and served with pork did not seem to fit together due to lack of attention in preparation. Overall it just seemed like they have stopped caring as much as they used to and that no one is watching the food coming out of the kitchen any more. It was average which for Willow is a big step back."

  • "We both felt this was a very nice experience for this special occasion. The spacious restaurant had a classy look and feel, we were greeted and treated warmly, and made to feel special. The entire dinner experience and sequence was relaxed and well-paced, the food was delicious and well-prepared, the drinks were refreshing, and the waiter was friendly, punctual, and helpful. Very happy and satisfied!"

  • "Excellent food, a friendly waiter, quiet ambiance in which we could talk and be together. Willow - for us - is pricy, but worth it on special occasions."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "We had the flatbread Lady Brussels and porterhouse for two. The sides were impressive and made it difficult to chose an entree. Don't leave without dessert and definitely grab some cookies to go. Our waiter was quite amicable and other floor staff were friendly and hard at work."

  • "We have been to Willow many times for many occasions, and are always pleased. But a recent trip for restaurant week blew me away, they did such a wonderful job. The menu was creative, the food was delightful, and the device was timely but not rushed. We will definitely continue to think of Willow when we are seeking a special experience."

  • "For the habitués, there's always something new and delectable on the menu. For the newcomer, a marvelously diverse spread. If you don't want dinner, the bar is a delightful place for the accomplished set to hang out after work. It's where the beautiful people of Arlington go to meet same. Enjoy!"
