Diner Reviews
  • "Neither the service nor the food were up to the quality found in comparably priced restaurants in the DC area."

  • "I finally had the chance to bring my sister to Willow to experience what I keep going on and on about this restaurant. My father was also with us. He likes traditional meals but is always up for trying foods prepared different ways. The fact that he loved the heirloom tomato and melon salad and polished off the salmon skewers says a lot! I have a recently retired friend who when we meet for lunch always likes to come here. I like trying different places but I know with her, I'll have an adventurous dining companion. Keep up the excellent work."

  • "We had another great meal during restaurant week at the Willow Restaurant. The food was really great. I especially enjoyed the softshell crab meal. Our waiter was wonderful and recommended a perfect pinot noir to go with our meals."

  • "We hadn't been to Willow in several years, but we always liked the food and the quiet, "adult" ambience. The 3-course Restaurant Week menu featured creative and seasonal items. We dined on the patio, as the weather was unusually pleasant. My husband had the cod brandade fritters and a duck breast with locally made sausage. I had the tomato-and-eggplant flatbread (flatbreads are a specialty there) and the soft-shelled crab. The fritters and the crab were crisp and sweet, not at all greasy. We were so relaxed that it took us a while to notice the wait between the first and main courses was starting to drag out. Our waiter did stop by to let us know the entrees were on the way. That was the only glitch in an otherwise lovely evening."

  • "Restaurant week menu was not as good as the regular menu. We were really glad our favorite waiter was back."

  • "We had a very enjoyable dinner at Willow. My soft shell crab and my wife's duck breast were delicious. Each was accompanied by an interesting and tastey choice of vegetables. The only reason that we did not give the food 5 stars was that half of my wife's flatbread appetizer had a burnt crust."

  • "Dined here during restaurant week. The options all looked very interesting and we enjoyed the items we tried. The portions were nice enough to enjoy the meal without over-indulging. Plenty of vegetarian and gluten free options were offered. There is an onsite parking garage."

  • "We ate at Willow during Restaurant Week, with its special menu. We like going during RW, becuSe we can try things we might not. This time, my husband had the eggplant flatbread to start, and I had the tempura brandade and calamari. Both were good. I had the "clams casino"style cod for dinner. It was good, but I found the fish a little plain, not as flavorful as I'd expected. The duck my husband had was cooked nicely, and was very tasty. Dessert for me is always the cake of the day, tiramisu cake this time. My husband had the peach shortcake, with perfect succulent peaches and a light shortcake to accompany and sop up juice. We love Dante as our server, and were pleased he had a table available."

  • "My husband and I were looking forward to a nice anniversary dinner supporting a local restaurant (we're recent NoVa transplants). While the appetizers were promising, the duck and pork entrees left much to be desired in both taste and presentation. Both tasted somewhat sour, the duck sausage had bones, the pork was luke warm and looked very unappetizing. Since they have a pastry chef in house we were hopeful the desserts would be redeeming. However, while they were somewhat tasty they were far from "knock your socks off" which, frankly, is what we expected for a $100 dinner. On top of all that, the interior is quite lovely but the music selections were inappropriate for fine dining - think Britney Spears / Cranberries mix."

  • "We were very happy with the food and service. They always have great gluten free options, and we weren't disappointed"

  • "The food was very good with a nice variety of selections. Our waiter (Alex) was very friendly and helpful with the food selections. The cod was an excellent choice. Our only negative was the noise level. We were seated in the middle of the large dining room and had a difficult time with maintaining a conversation without raising our voices. I am sure the smaller side rooms are much quieter. The garage parking was very convenient, as street parking can be difficult in Arlington. We will definitely visit again, but request a quieter table."

  • "I continue to love the food at Willow and the fact that Tracy O'Grady is always tinkering with the menu and wonderful accompaniments to entrees. And I don't know another restaurant that has such consistent success with desserts. However, I continue to see service slipping, lacking in attention to detail. Plus, this time the bar disappointed me. I got a $12.50 Cosmo that came with a quarter of the glass not filled, never before my experience. The waiter's reply was "that's the way they gave it to me." My second try at the bar on this visit resulted in a drink that had a not quite right ingredient proportion. Maybe it's time to stick to food only, since that makes me happy. Oh, and parking in the building has jumped from $2.50 to $4."

  • "Willow takes an opportunity like Testaurant Week to shine. That's how they attract and keep loyal diners year round!"
    Dined on 8/14/2014
  • "Willow has a nice lunch menu, much less fancy than the dinner. My co-worker and i managed to have it outside on a nice day. Service was gracious without being obtrusive."

  • "We went for restaurant week and loved the items we chose off the restaurant week menu. The gazpacho, the burger, and the peach shortcake were tops. We were disappointed when we received our bill and discovered we had been charged $15 fora glass of house Chardonnay, when the normal wine lists glasses of wine for $10. When we left the parking lot with our ticket validated, we were charged $4, when the web page states $2.50. It would appear that the restaurant was making up for the wonderful lunch menu with higher prices on these two items. Spoils the Willows and restaurant week for me."

  • "We sat outside on an uncommonly gorgeous August evening to celebrate our anniversary. Unfortunately the table next to us had a loud woman, not impaired in any way, just too loud for the area. She made it hard to have our own conversation. Food was very tasty. Dessert was good, but nothing special. Service was pleasant but average in attentiveness. The Restaurant Week menu had a good variety and the host/hostess were very welcoming upon our arrival."

  • "Nice experience except for a disorganized front desk."
    Dined on 8/13/2014
  • "Normally quite nice. Cod/calamari appetizer was bland. Main course took a long time to arrive. Lots of apologies but no explanation. Lemon chicken was only lemony in spots and accompanying beans were bland. It was as if anything not screaming pork wasn't worth doing well. Tiramisu dessert was fine--not great. Really hoping this was a fluke."

  • "We continue to enjoy dining at Willow. The food is always presented nicely and is a pleasure to eat. It is also welcoming to be greeted by name when arriving at the restaurant. I look forward to another trip to Willow very soon."

  • "Willow's food is always good and unique. The display of the food is beautifully done. It's located in a good location and lovely neighborhood. I love dinning at Willow. Service was well-timed and friendly, wines were affordable"

  • "Definitely well worth the price and then some for Restaurant Week! The food was delicious and the service polite and attentive even though it took longer to get our food than it should have for the time that we arrived."

  • "As usual, lunch at Willow was wonderful. Great food, attentive staff - it's always a pleasure to dine here!"

  • "A happy place to come even if I had to sit inside because of the torrential rain. Nice spot for a single lady to dine."

  • "We went for restaurant week, and the food was fantastic. Our waiter was extremely knowledgable, and the overall experience was perfect."
    Dined on 8/11/2014
  • "Every year, the chefs outdo themselves with innovative dishes for restaurant week! Reading the menu and watching the dishes arrive is akin to opening Christmas packages! And the taste matches the presentation. Delicious!"
    Dined on 8/11/2014
  • "Food is always outstanding. Wine list provides plenty of selection. Restaurant Week a pleasure. Location easy to get to with parking never a big problem."
    Dined on 8/11/2014
  • "Willow is one of our favorite restaurants both for lunch and dinner and this time did not disappoint. All three of us had seafood (Salmon, Swordfish and Tuna) selections and all were beautifully prepared. My swordfish was thick and very tender."
    Dined on 8/9/2014
  • "The gluten free breads alone make it worth the visit! Overl, the food is great and accommodations can be made to modify items not originally noted to be GF!"

  • "Tues night, birthday dinner, table for two. Very polite server. We kept asking her for suggestions and she admitted to not eating any of the food because she is a picky eater. We asked about four dishes and she only said "some people like it" or "it's popular." Then after our entrees were served, she disappeared. I saw her rolling silverware in an empty dining room, then said goodnight to her manager and left. We had to go over to the manager to see of we could get our food boxed and a dessert to go-oh also the check.I had thefilet medallions. They seemed like restaurant supply food (Sysco) or big wedding entree. No flavor-overcooked. I sent back the asparagus. My friend had the fried chicken and it was ok. The experience was weird."
    Dined on 8/5/2014
  • "We are new to the area and trying many new restaurants. We would definitely visit Willow again, although perhaps for either lunch or happy hour instead of dinner. The restaurant was not busy on a Monday night, although the patio was packed. The waiter was very attentive. The drinks were delicious, the steaks prepared perfectly."
    Dined on 8/4/2014
  • "The shrimp appetizer was fabulous, the salads were delicious, and the salmon and duck we very good."
    Dined on 8/2/2014
  • "We hit a "wine night". That meant service was very slow, food was uninteresting and the place was practically deserted except for the "wine party"I recommend that people check out what else is going on in the restaurant when they make a reservation It certainly was an unsatisfactory experience/"

  • "Enjoyed my first experience here very much. Of course, its expensive, so I don't think we'll come frequently, but you don't have to go to DC to get really high quality food! We tried the tuna and the swordfish, and both were really tasty, including the vegetables that were served with it. Each part of the dish had unique flavors and textures. Definitely a high quality place. Service was friendly and attentive. Dessert and drinks were delicious as well!"

  • "Food is consistently excellent, using fresh and local ingredients. I prefer to eat on the patio if it is cool enough because the nosh menu is exceptional. One thing I'm not crazy about is that you can't get the nosh menu inside, but you can get nosh and the interior menu outside. Should be able to order off either menu in my opinion. The gougeres (gouda-filled popovers) are unbelievable."

  • "Loved the food, service and location. Sat outside and it was perfect. Had lunch and dinner. The waiter was very helpful and friendly. The vegetarian fare for me was excellent!"

  • "With all the places that come and go along the Orange Line, it's easoy to forget that Willow remains an outstanding choice for almost any dining option."
    Dined on 7/18/2014
  • "We so do enjoy eating at Willow, we really must go there more often. Our server was professional and attentive and helped us make some good choices. The Scallop appetizer was wonderful-the scallops were so sweet and tender-we even asked for a spoon to get the rest of the sauce! Our Salmon entree was cooked just right-and so tender. We ate on the patio as it was a lovely evening and just had a delightful evening."

  • "I brought a friend to lunch here. It was her first time and her meal was great. I ordered the half turkey club and cup of soup. The soup was excellent, but the bread on my sandwich was dry and stale. I usually have a fantastic meal when I eat here, so maybe they had a bad day when they didn't get their bread delivery. They were very busy and I had OK service."
